I bought one of these a few months ago and have been using it to a moderate level of satisfaction. I have tried it with iPhone, iPod touch, and my wife's iPad. Due to the awful battery life of the iPhone and iPod touch, I primarily use it with the iPad. I use it with two probes to monitor the temperature of a chosen cut of meat and the internal temperature of my Primo XL smoker.

This product has so much potential but I'm only giving it 3 stars. Why? Well, for one thing, the build quality is a little bit suspect. I have a white unit, and the plastic housing doesn't feel very tough or rugged at all. I wouldn't want to see the unit take a fall onto a hard floor the plastic has a flimsy, almost brittle feel to it. While I would like it to be more rugged, it's not my primary concern. My biggest concern/complaint is that so far, the iGrill is ONLY compatible with their own homegrown IOS iGrill app. The app itself is okay and provides some basic functionality, and is generally fine for short duration cooks, but when I am doing "low and slow" cooks (of up to 30 hour duration), I need a more robust app with a few more features.

1) The iPad app just closes on its own periodically. This means you lose all the data that's been collected on the temperature trendlines.

2) There is no way to log the data to a file. I'd love to have the app just pump it into a csv file or even "to the cloud" in google docs. When I am cooking new things on the smoker, it's great to be able to go back and see exactly how long it took to cook items and how it correlated to the grill temp

3) There is a target temperature alarm that you can set independently for both probes, but when I leave the smoker going all day long or overnight, I'd love to be able to have a LOW temp alert an alarm that alerts me if the grill temp dips too low.

4) This is one of the things I hate about IOS, but this app won't operate in the background, so if you're using your iPad/iPhone/iPod touch to monitor a long cook, you can't really use that device for any other apps without losing your temperature data. Of course, when the app crashes on its own like it does, it doesn't much matter.

Honestly I would forget about those app shortcomings if there were a full featured app available for Mac OSX and Windows 7. Most laptops have bluetooth adapters and you can get a cheap USB bluetooth adapter for a desktop computer for less than $10. I hope iDevices strongly considers doing this or at the very least releasing an SDK or API so independent developers can create their own apps to communicate with the iGrill. If that happens I would give the iGrill a bump to 4.5 stars. (To reach 5 stars it still needs to be more rugged).

Just a few other notes

1) battery life seems pretty good. 4 fresh batteries seem to go for at least 50-60 hours of use.

2) the display on the device is nice for a quick temp check when your wife confiscates her iPad, but it can be difficult to read in bright light, at least on the unit like mine with the white plastic housing.

3) i bought my iGrill at the apple store because I'm impatient and didn't want to wait weeks to order one online. Unfortunately it's only sold with a single probe at the Apple Store. I ordered a spare probe directly from iDevices but they rip you off on shipping and you end up paying around $30 for the 2nd probe. The probes seem accurate but like the iGrill itself, I am a little suspicious of the durability the wire lead is quite thin, so $30 is a ripoff. It's better to buy the bundle that includes 2 probes with the base unit.

4) I don't expect the white housing to hold up very well over time. If the Apple Store had it in black, I definitely would have purchased the black one. That white plastic gets dirty easily and I'm pretty certain it will yellow as it ages.

UPDATE August 11, 2011:

It's been a few months since I wrote my initial review above, and coincidentally, (almost as if on cue) an updated version of the iGrill app came out within a few days of that first review being released. Much to my delight, a lot of features were added to the new version 2.0 app, including items #2 and #3 in the list above. Unfortunately, there are still some glitches. I have not been able to get the CSV file function to work at all it just freezes and crashes the app. The pdf function works, but for very long cooks, the scaling on the graph is messed up so that the labels on the x-axis all overlap each other, making them completely illegible. The updated app seems to be a bit more stable I have witnessed a few lockups and freezes here and there but the last 2 long cooks I've done, it didn't crash at all. I had a few issues where it wouldn't link up with the outdoor unit for several minutes, or it would launch and then close immediately, but I think I have it figured out now. Basically, launch the app and turn on the iGrill device as soon as the app loads. If it doesn't display a temperature right away, just wait a few minutes and it will show up. Another glitch I've found that impacts the device's usefulness is if one of the probes is over 125F when you turn the iGrill on, it seems to lock everything up. This happened once when the iGrill app crashed in the middle of a cook, and in an effort to get everything going again, I pulled the batteries out of the iGrill device. When I replaced them and turned the iGrill on, the alarm sounded immediately and the iGrill app couldn't connect, so eventually I figured out I had to remove the probes from the food in the grill to get it restarted. It was quite a frustrating ordeal.

I hate throwing away alkaline batteries so I use rechargeable AAs in almost everything. The iGrill works pretty well with the NiMh batteries that I have, but the "low battery" threshold in the iGrill app should be lowered. Due to the slightly lower voltage of rechargeable AAs, the iGrill erroneously thinks the batteries are running out of juice and it throws false warnings. It will show up within minutes after putting in a freshly charged set of AAs, but then the iGrill works fine for a good 40-60 hours even though it thinks the batteries are low.

Regarding probe accuracy, mine seem to be pretty accurate. I tested both of the probes that I have and both of them read within 1 degree of each other across a wide range of temps. I have tested them against a digital J/K thermometer and the readings are within 1-2 degrees across the range of tested temps, so I think these are accurate enough for cooking. The wires are braided metal but they tangle easily and compared to the probes on my other meat thermometers, they seem rather fragile, so I try to be careful with them when wrapping or unwrapping the leads for storage.

My Williams Sonoma probe thermo just stopped working. So in my search I came across the IGrill and saw some pretty weak reviews. I don't take much stock in most reviews as most are just upset buyers that don't take the time to work out minor kinks in a new product. So on my own judgement and knowing that the apple store sells these units, I bought one. Apple is pretty good about not selling products that don't uphold their high standards of quality.

Best Deals for iDevices iGrill Grilling/Cooking BBQ Thermometer

Despite the mediocre reviews, I really wanted to have a good experience the iGrill. I do a lot of BBQ on a Weber Smokey Mountain, and a wireless thermometer is invaluable. My existing wireless is a PITA to sync and keep synced, so when I saw the iGrill's bluetooth capabilities, I thought, "brilliant"!

Well, it would be brilliant except for the apparent faulty probe. I am attempting to smoke a beef brisket using the iGrill and noticed the meat's temp jumping to over 145 degrees in an hour. Given my smoker's temp was only at 250, I suspected an issue.

After some troubleshooting, I observed the following:

A. The probe's temp wildly fluctuating depending on how the probe connector was positioned to the base unit.

B. Even when "settled", the probe shows a temperature consistently 10-15 degrees above that of my trusty Pyrex probe thermometer.

I've emailed iGrill to request a probe replacement, but do not expect to hear from them for at least a day.

If I get a replacement probe that works, I will update this review, but at this point, I simply cannot recommend the iGrill.

EDIT: As I indicated in a reply to a comment, I did receive a replacement probe from the vendor. However, that probe only lasted two months before failing in the same manner. iDevices needs to figure out what is wrong with their probe manufacturing process, because something is not working.

Honest reviews on iDevices iGrill Grilling/Cooking BBQ Thermometer

I saw this advertised somewhere and went on here to buy it, then I saw the reviews and it scared me off. Apparently my wife noticed it too but didn't care in desperate need for a father's day gift. Having read the previews reviews I was a bit hesitant to use it, but it's been working pretty good.

Range: It's Bluetooth, it is not designed to go far and through thick walls, so for me that means having the device in line of sight on the deck, about 20 feet from the kitchen window, while the iPad rests on the rim of the window inside. That way I can prep inside and keep an eye on the temperature. I tried a bit further and it wouldn't work.

Connectivity: It connects pretty well. If you turn on the device first and then open the app, it sees the device pretty much right away. If you have the app already open and turn on the device, it seems like it can take up to 10 seconds. That's enough time to get upset about it not working and start closing apps, switching the device on and off, and fiddle with Bluetooth settings. Some patience and it works fine. One thing I noticed is that every time you pair the item with the Bluetooth device, it will prompt you that there is a matching app available and then links to an app that doesn't exist. There must be some kind of identifier issue, between the device and the software in the app store.

Accuracy: I can not complain at all, we have enjoyed moist chicken and steak. Yesterday I made a roast in the stove and I used the iGrill. After 45 minutes it told me the desired temperature was achieved, which was 15 minutes earlier than I expected. I blew off the iGrill insisting on the 1 hour cook time, well, it was too done and the iGrill was in fact right on the money. I definitely trust the iGrill.

App: The app is beautiful, intuitive and very functional. Actually it was just recently completely redesigned. One of my favorite features is that it estimates when the final temperature will be achieved and displays a history graph of the current probe.

Build Quality: I haven't had any issues, it's made of plastic and I treat my kitchen tools usually with care. I can see how it would break if you drop it a lot or hit it with sharper utensils, but any thermometer would seem prone to that. One thing that's nice about the main unit that it isn't just a dumb transmitter, it will also display the temperature and sound an alarm when the settings are reached that I programmed on the iDevice. So when I am right at the grill I still get the full benefit of the device.

Future improvements:

Allow to pair with more than one device I would like to use it with my iPhone and iPad at the same time

Provide thinner probes, these probes like most consumer cooking thermometers are thick and pierce big holes into delicate pieces of meat

Don't reset the meat type after alarm I simply want to push the probe into the next batch of chicken without having to fiddle with the iDevice

Provide a way to store the second probe the first one wraps and clips nicely to the main unit, the second one, well it just lays around.

Get rid of the annoying "an app is available" message on bluetooth connection

Bottom Line: I am really happy with the device, it does what it's supposed to and it does it well. Sure there are possible improvements, but what device is perfect. Is it worth twice as much as a good traditional digital two probe thermometer, probably, but I think it would sell better in the $50 to $75 range, but that's something that may happen once more people start buying it. I feel my wife spent the money well and surprised me with a nice professional gadget.

I've used various grill thermometers over the years, for the past few years I've been using the Weber wireless unit. I was never satisfied with that, it seemed like it was always losing its signal at an inopportune moment (and I LOVE most Weber products).

When I saw the iGrill become available, I figured it was worth a shot. The $100 price tag concerned me a bit, but this is a case of "ya get what ya pay for". I've only used this thing in the heat of battle a couple of times, but it worked flawlessly. The software is a bit clunky, which I assume will improve over time (I'd give it 5 stars but for that), but all in all, I think this thing is well worth the money. And it definitely has a coolness factor that no other grill thermometer can hope to emulate. Well done! (pun intended).

Ok, I just have to laugh at the person that thought they were getting a $1000 smoker grill for only $76 bucks,...... Seriously!!!!!!

There seems to be several problems with the description of Louisiana grills on the Amazon website. For one, the flame broiler already comes with the grill so there is no need to buy a separate one. On the louisiana grills official website, they make you buy one as an "upgrade" to the solid standard flame tamer that cannot be opened to allow direct grilling. So unless you are buying this for a louisiana grill in your possession that has the standard flame tamer, don't bother buying this product.

Rated at 0 stars. Item pictured is NOT what they are sending you!I thought from the picture I was buying a smoker grill. Price was right for end of season deals. I received a large curved metal plate which I assume goes into the grill pictured. Very disappointed. Not the fault of Amazon, a clearly misleading ad by Louisiana Grills.

I recently bought a Moka Espresso pot while in Hungary, and needed a small grill plate to put on top of our stove at home to use it. This has been absolutely perfect, and it was just what I was looking for.

It lets you cook at a higher heat, very easily, this is great for thick steaks. So this kind of cooking lets you cook at higher temps. But be careful. If you are smoking your food, you do not want to this grate, you need to go back to the solid iron grate with holes.

Best Deals for Stainless High Heat Charcoal Fire Grate Upgrade for Medium Big

I lost the charcoal grille for my mini Bodum grille and could not find a replacement in the stores or online.

I decided to try the Big Egg grille which was about the same size it works perfectly!

Honest reviews on Stainless High Heat Charcoal Fire Grate Upgrade for Medium Big

After 10 years the iron charcoal grate on my medium size egg split badly enough that charcoal fell through. I bought this as a replacement because it sounded like it might be an upgrade.

It should be noted that the description on amazon sounds like this an official BGE product. It isn't. It has a slightly smaller diameter than the original and a traditional grate like a weber. This means that It varies the heating characteristics of the egg. That may not be all bad, but be prepared to tinker with your usual arrangement. If you don't want to do that, stick with the egg grate.

The small grate itself appears to be high quality and costs a little less than an original BGE replacement. Whether it is an "upgrade" remains to be seen.

In the spring when grill accessories come back, I intend to get a slightly bigger one to bring the coals closer to the cooking surface.

I always had trouble getting my medium BGE up to temp, especially trying to coordinate it with my large Egg. This grate makes all the difference in airflow and has made my medium Big Green Egg a useful grilling/smoking tool.

I dont usually write reviews, but I had to defend this product. I have this sensor controlling 3 12v 100watt LED flood lights. The power rating for this sensor is low (for whatever reason). The other two folks that reviewed this product have exceeded the load rating which has fused the internal relay closed. If you buy this sensor, count on using an external 12v relay to handle the load and use the sensor to trigger the external relay only. If you do this it will operate flawlessly. I am buying 2 more of these right now.

I bought one of these and it failed after about 1 month. Lights come on and stay on all the time.

You reset it, once it's triggered, the lights stay on and drain the battery.

About 1 year later, i though maybe they updated it, so I bought another. They were the only 12V model I could find. Same thing again. Works for a while then the lights stay on and drain the battery.

Battery is 114 AH, fully charged by solar and monitored. Battery disconnects automatically if it gets to 9 volts. Why am I saying this? Nothing wrong with my system. These 12V sensor simply do not work.

I have the same experience as the previous customer.

We had two of these, both broke within 7 days of operation. One simply refused to work after one day, the other quit after a week, with the motion sensor/electronics malfunction and thus the lights being on 24/7. Not sure why that's the case. We returned both and got two new ones, which we are about to install...

Magic Grill Stone Review

Magic Stone Grill Cleaner
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars

My grill accumulated a lot of crud as a result of many cookouts. I tried to keep it as clean as possible with a wire brush and various cleaning pads and cleaners. I never could get the rack and grates to look like new. There was always a layer of permanent food residue, carbon and other debris that defied removal. I decided to give the Magic Stone Grill Cleaner a shot. It arrived as a light weight square without the grooves shown in the product illustration. I had serious doubts that this thing could do any good. Surprise! Surprise! This is truly a magic stone. It removed everything from the grill parts that I worked on and left them looking like new. The cleaning process did put grooves in the bottom of the stone and that helped to get the sides cleaned off as well.

I am now a true believer and highly recommend this item. I can't speak for any other uses this may have but for cleaning my grill it is a winner.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

The Magic Stone works as advertised. The only issue I had was that one stone didn't last long enough to clean the entire grill. As others have commented the "brick" doesn't have grooves at first but as you start to use it the grooves are made. I used "Easy Off" and my "Power Washer" to get most of the grease off my grill but there was still some left over. Magic Stone did take it off but the product is very brittle and as you get closer to the end it just breaks up in your hands. I only ordered one and frankly I could have used two but $11.00 for a one time cleaning is a lot of money. Especially since I like to grill in the summer.

Removed all the build up from my grill due to laziness.. was going to give up and buy a new grill all together, but glad I stumbled upon this product first before shelling out the $$ for a new grill.

It works like a magic as the name suggests.

Honest reviews on Magic Grill Stone

We have used several other brands of stone grill cleaner and, while few of these lasts as long as three or four cleanings, this brand crumbled into small pieces on the first use. And it did so with two of them. I paid almost $10 for each one -robbery for an inferior products. Though the price has now come down to just over $5 each, I would still not recommend this brand.

If you're a homebrewer using a basic burner, you're wasting your time. I use this thing for 11 gallon batches and get my temps up in no time. I can boil 12 gallons from a 150º mash in about 10-20 minutes (depending on temps) in a keggle.

I go from cold hose water to 10 gallons of 160 degree water in about 20-30 minutes. Fact is, I've shaved well over an hour from my brew time because of this baby.

Yeah, so it takes a little bit of DIY to integrate it into a system. If you don't like DIY go buy a bottle of beer from the store. If you're willing to spend an hour getting it to fit your system you'll recoup that hour on your first brew day.

Yeah, it's heavy. It's 15" of cast iron. It's got to be heavy to last. This thing probably gets to about 1000º over a 60 minute boil.

Don't forget to get a hose and regulator that works with this burner.

I've had no problems with it at all. My previous burner used to put soot all over the damned keggle. That's gone.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

Since this has a fairly specific use, I'm going to assume you are building a brew sculpture or making some type of beer burner (like I was). The previous reviews are right on. It had a few castings still in the burner holes, but I was easily able to knock them out with a small screwdriver that fit in the hole.

The other thing to mention is it has four mounting bolts and they are NOT square. So mounting it took a little bit of 'widening' the mounting holes I had made.

The other thing is, this could double as an anchor. It is super heavy, but not likely to break which seems good. It came with an orifice and one mounted, then hooked to my 30lb regulator it put off enough heat during testing to remove my eyebrows! Awesome! I can't wait to actually use it during a boil.

As for noise, it was VERY quiet compared to hurricane burners that I have been using. I was pleasantly surprised and plan to be able to hear music while brewing again.

All in all, I would/will buy another one. Though, if there were another game in town on this, I would probably try them. Since there is not.... oh well.

Best Deals for Bayou Classic BG14 Banjo Burner 10 in. x 10 in.

I have been using 3 of these burners for 6 years on my brew stand , first of all their cast iron (get it cast iron so they are a casting , when I bought them back 6 years ago I had them to far away from my keggles , since then I have them about 3 inches away and my effenice has improved to 3/4 vol on 20 lp tank on a 10-12 brew session ,

I since came to realize that you only need 2 burners of this style on the mash and boil kettles and a jet burner for the HLT ( hot liquid tank) , buy them with confidence and mount them to your brew stand with proper reg ,,, just remember this one thing that you take for this this burners can be dialed down ( Flame height ) very slow for the mash fly sparging and recurulation of mash and they are very quite ,,, when I first got them I was all about more was better but since when less is better I adjust the air valve and use about a 2 inch flame and it is quite and wher e I can concentrate on brewing instead of hearing jet burners ,, I tell my newbies at HB club meeting about these are the burners you need so you. Don't scorch your wort on the mash, boil kettles

Honest reviews on Bayou Classic BG14 Banjo Burner 10 in. x 10 in.

Bought this burner for a brew sculpture I'm building. I have not permanently I hooked it up but I did try it out and wow it makes a lot of heat I don't think I'll have any problems bringing 11+ gallons to a boil. It came with the orifice and I purchased the 0-30 psi regulator. This burner is pretty quiet even with the high pressure propane. The end where the orifice connects was a little out of round so the air adjuster plate would not fit on it so I had to round it a little with a grinder so it would fit. I agree the forgings could be a lot better but if your at all handy it won't be a problem.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Bayou Classic BG14 Banjo Burner 10 in. x 10 in.

I use 3 of these in my home brewing stand. The pricing is amazing, and if anything, with my setup they can put out too much heat. That being said, once you get the spacing right, they are amazing. The fact that they include the flange adapter, and screws for mounting gives you a complete kit. Either use a single regulator, or hook them up to a gas manifold and you are in business.

The only issue I had was that the box arrived broken open, probably from the tape not being able to handle UPS throwing the box around in a truck. Everything was in the box, so there were no issues, after all , its not like they are going to ding a cast iron burner.

If you are a home brewer, these make a solid option for your brew stand. +1 !

Nuts, bolts and screws come in sealed plastic bags, but include few less than listed in the instructions leaflet. That's why it's five stars minus one.

Apart from that, this disarmingly simple box is an ingenuity marvel. Easy to assemble, easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store -even easy to repairyou can even order it with a top grill to broil some sausages while the main roast gets done. Better than most outdoor grills on the market, if you ask me!

Now, if you're seriously into pork, this thing is a MUST! Caja China was designed to roast Cuban lechón, and lechón (suckling pig) is to pork what Sachertorte is to Betty Crocker! If you've never tasted lechón (be that Segovian, Cuban, Filipino or Mexican) you are yet to find what the word "PORK" truly means. Meat gets so tender, you can carve it with the rim of a plate (no kidding -watch it on YouTube)!

Last weekend my wife and I went to a friend's house, assembled our Caja China and barbecued two suckling pigs to perfection in less than three hours. We became like minor pagan gods to them; the entire party turned into a cargo-cult kinda ritual after the first plate got served. I'm already planning a bigger event at my parent's -can't wait!

I purchased my first La Caja China a couple of years ago, and I was amazed at how simple it is to use to create an awesome roast pig. As a private chef, I've done pork shoulders, packer briskets, whole lambs, and even whole salmon inside the box, and I've always been happy with the results.

You may be able to save a couple of bucks on one of the "knock off" models, but between the fantastic quality product, tons of available accessories, and stellar customer service, La Caja China get's the A+ in my book!

Was surprised when these arrived and they weren't porcelain. And then, they didn't fit my grill even though their chart said they would! To top things off, I was totally ignored by the company that sold them to me.

The original parts rusted out, opted for stainless replacement parts. Much better quality than expected heavier steel than you would expect for an aftermarket part.

This was the correct item but we needed to many more parts. Our grill was 10 years old and there fore we had to send it back. Service was great.

Length is just right...width is a little to wide. Otherwise, they are perfect.

Packaging was lacking. No wrapping on product allowed them to slide

around in the box. The smaller shaped ends were bent out of shape.

I have had the Jenn Air JA460 for approx 9 years now, and I purchased this along with the replacement pipe tube burners, and it feels as if I have a brand new grill! These fit great, and will hopefully give me a few more years (or even just one year) versus having to sink over $500 for a new grill.

These work well and seem to survive washing in the dishwasher. The problem is that of the 4 I received in the set, only 3 were reasonably accurate. One was off by about 15 degrees. I'd give them 5 stars if Taylor had bothered to test them and make sure that they were accurate before packaging them. You can test them yourself like I did and throw away the bad one(s). But, you shouldn't have to do that.

These are awesome. Really convenient to be able to leave them in the meat while grilling.

Maybe not super precise, but they are certainly close enough. (If I'm looking for a super accurate reading, like when I'm preparing a rare cut, I use these to get the meat to the general area and use a more precise thermometer to finish it off).

Just be careful, because they are easily small enough to fit down the garbage disposal... and they won't survive... I promise...

The problem with these and several other meat thermometers is that they are not based on modern world meat doneness guidelines AND they completely ignore the fact that the internal temperature rises after removing the meat from the oven or grill. For example, the scale of the beef thermometers in this set starts at 145 degrees and what they refer to as rare, so they are of limited use as an accurate thermometer for cooking beef anything less than medium well. In the real world rare is actually 120-130 degrees and if you want rare you have to remove it from the heat at 5-20 degrees (depending on the thickness) before reaching the desired final temperature. In the extreme case, if you wanted very rare and your target temperature was 120 degrees and your roast was about 4 inches thick, you would have to remove it when the internal temperature is 100 degrees and the residual cooking would raise the internal temp to 120. With this thermometer, none of these temps are even on the dial, so you would have to guess. Even Medium would be in the unscaled area of the dial. If you trusted this thermometer to cook your beef rare you would be removing the beef from the heat at 145 and after the internal temp raised to 165 it would be well done instead.

These are a good idea however, for cooking on a spit because they can be left in while cooking and there are no cords that make electronic thermometers useless for spit cooking. Just remember to remove the meat from the oven or grill when the temperature is 25-50 degrees less than what the thermometer advises.

Got these to use when grilling and haven't been disappointed. They do the job at a reasonable price and I've had no problems.

I was pretty excited when I picked these up. They are the perfect size. But they are completely inaccurate making them useless.

I was skeptical when my wife got one of these to try. We're big grilling aficionados and to me, not grilling directly on the grates just seemed wrong. Well, I was wrong. After the seasoning process was completed (read the instructions), my maiden voyage was marinated steak tips, which usually try to escape through the grating and the marinade causes flare ups. None of that with this. The tips cooked evenly in their own juices (and marinade) to an evenly browned, juicy, melt in your mouth meal. When you're done cooking, just shut the grill off. The stuff mostly burns off as the grill cools (obviously scrape any excess off), then the next time you want to cook with it again, just dump it over, light you're grill, and you're on you're way. Next was Italian sausage with peppers and onions. Wow, or should I say yum?! I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

The Island Grillstone is awesome. The flavor and ease of cooking is wonderful. I made sausage burgers and fried onions all on the stone at the same time four 1/4 Lb burgers and onions fit perfectly for making a great dinner. Seasoning the stone was as easy as 1-2-3. Being able to use both sides for grilling means while one side is being cleaned (facing down) the other side is great for cooking. The more you use it the better it gets. Here is how I recommend seasoning along with great instructions included with the stone.

1. Wash as directed, but do NOT submerge stone. Wash and Rinse

2. Dry completely (24 hours is my recommendation in a cool dry place (I shortened this to a few hours by using the dehydrate setting on my oven, at 110F. no problems)

3. Apply with brush olive oil to ALL sides

4. Place on cold grill and heat evenly (SLOWLY) as too quick can cause the stone to break (warning from manufacturer not my experience). I have a gas grill and charcoal grill, but used my gas to complete the seasoning step. Bring stone and grill up to temperature.

5. Let it cool completely before using. Flip over stone, heat grill and stone from cold up, on medium.. You are ready to cook.

6. When cooking be patient and enjoy. (no flare ups, even cooking, no lost parts.)

7. Have 2 spatulas available to move food around as it makes it easier.

I love mine it is a great addtiona to my grilling world and will use it more than the steel grates it sits on.

I did all the things to season it, it definitely has some advantages and disadvantages. It's great for anything you don't want flames to directly burn. An easy mistake is to make is to not heat it up enough, it really needs to get hot, I think, to brown meat. So for a steak, which I like a little crispy on the outside with grill marks, it put them on the the grill half way done. I haven't tried any of veggie things yet.

It replaces the old one. It turns a 20 pound turkey. It turns 2 roasts. If it fits on the grill (even when forced to remove the cover plates to allow rotation), it turns. That's 100%.

The unit works very good. Was a hard to find item. Weber had changed the design. Saved me from having to buy a complete assembly.

the bracket provided did not fit my pit...luckily I had kept the old motor and switched the brackets. Other than that the motor works well.
