Global Solar Oven: I have baked cakes and bread so far. Everything has been done to perfection. Much easier than a conventional oven, and results are better. Works well, have reached 400 degrees on an April day in central AZ @ 5500 feet elevation, full sun.

You'll want to 'dry run' it in full-sun conditions 3 or 4 times before using it with food; as the enamel/paint they use to coat the interior bleeds into the food taste the first few uses.

Highly recommend, will purchase 2 more for family members.

I have two of these ovens (one for two years) and use them year round. They are like using an oven or a slow cooker. They are well made and are easy to use. The only thing you can't do in them is deep fry.

We are going to bake something every day now with no more worrying about how much electricity our electric oven is sucking up.

I just talked with the manufacturer because I was only hitting 250 degrees and he told me how to line it up to the sun to hit 350 degrees (basically you make sure the wood edge near the handle plumbs down to its own shadow when you are looking straight down). I had the angle too high and he said most people go too steep (about 2 clicks too steep) and not too shallow. You can maintain a full 325-350 by tracking the sun every half hour.

He had a few other tips: 1. Spray some water on the top of bread so it will brown in addition to cooking. 2.Every time you open the lid the temp drops about 25 degrees and will recover in a few minutes, so don't open the door too often. 3.You can put a frozen chicken inside at 8am, aim it to where the sun will be at noon, and feast when you get home. 4.Cook things in dark enamel (available at Target) or cover with a dark cotton cloth. 5.Cover or bring inside when not using to save cleaning time.

Nov 18,2011. 70* est-Tenn. Having pre-cleaned the sun oven earlier. At 11:30am started pre heating oven. 360* by 12:10pm. Put in biscuits for 30 minutes. Cooked un-covered. Really nice. Soft,Moist. These pipes "should" have fit my grill but they didn't. According to all the information and manuals I could find online this was the correct pipe. After I removed the old ones that is when I discovered these are slightly longer and do not fit. The tubes I had are 15 5/16" long. My advice to anyone trying to fix their grill is to verify the length with a tape measure first. Do not trust online documentation. I didn't and now I must suffer a return. :(

Bummed that the burners on my Charmglow blew out in 4 years. My old Char Broil made it for a decade without needing to be replaced. That being said, these are cheap, and a drop in fit. Like a glove! If your grill is like mine, you'll have to drill out the old screws due to corrosion, and use new stainless (NOT ZINC fumes in a hot environment that are probably not good for you or your food) machine screws and done. Works just like the factory ones.

You may have to adjust the air venturi if your ignitor isn't lighting them. I recommend testing that before screwing them in to make sure it's adjusted correctly. From the factory mine weren't set 100% perfect so wasn't getting quite as much heat as the old ones. If you open them up too much the ignitor won't light them.

I purchased this extender for a small Big Green Egg. Cheaper than BGE accessories and seems to do just as good a job. My main use for this was to set a pizza stone on it to get the stone into the dome for grilling pizza. Not a perfect solution, but it was much cheaper than buying plate setter. It also makes a good platform for cooking vegetables while meat cooks on the main grill.

The hubbie is into smoking foods on the weekend. After watching some U2 vids, I decided to buy this rack. It is perfect. Quality is good. He uses the 3-2-1 method and this rack comes in handy at last stage when he puts potatoes, veggies on it to make a complete meal.

Aloha! I live in the 50th state... and I do a considerable amount of grilling. Accordingly, I have gone through several iterations of grill cleaners (including scrapers, brushes, pads, etc.).

For context... we own a charcoal Weber grill, and a gas-based Weber Genesis E-320 a serious and dependable grill. I am sold on the grill because of its dependability, durability (have had it since 2007), and ease of use (just keep it gassed up and simply push the button).

This grill cleaner is not quite a brush, way more than a pad, and a little bit of a scraper. It has ALL of the features you NEED in a cleaner, and it's durable.

Will it last forever? Of course not.

However, I will tell you: I first purchased this little gem at a local outdoor store. It lasted just under two years -and I loved it! After significant use, the little prongs soon extracted themselves from the handle. Yet, I continued using the cleaner BECAUSE IT WORKS SO WELL!

After subsequently searching high and low for a replacement, I got smart(er) and pulsed Amazon.

BINGO!

I purchased FOUR of these... should last me a while.

For you: I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend this puppy.

Makes mere flecks out of the most stubborn baked-on sauces.

Flexes slightly to adjust for the amount of force you use while pushing across the grill grates.

Does NOT fold over into a permanently useless cleaner like the metal brushes we have all used.

I follow up with a nylon brush (with handle) to simply sweep away the fine residue this cleaner leaves behind.

Works well on several grill types.

Pro: The bristles are very strong.

Cons: The metal which the bristles are attached to is very pliable making it very difficult to use when you have to use a little "elbow grease". With my previous brush which followed this same concept, there the metal holding the bristles was very strong and there was a molded clamp-like device around the two pieces of metal to prevent them from splitting. With this version, the two prongs split too easily.

Overall...Bad design and poor quality of materials. Previous one lasted a few years. This one wont make it to the end of the season.

If you have a Weber gas grill with porcelain coated cast iron grills this is the tool you need to get for cleaning between the grill elements. Any grill cleaner can clean the top of the grill, but it is difficult to clean between the grill elements. This is the only tool I have found that really does a good job removing the build up.

Its not rocket science to work the tool. Just position the tool so that each wire brush unit goes on either side of the grill unit. Twisting the tool slightly while moving it back and forth will great more pressure on the in side and remove more buildup. This is not the easiest tool to find in my area, so I bought 4 from Amazon.

It's easy to control and does the job, and it's small so that after every use I can rinse (helps to have a sprayer on the faucet) it off, dry it, and put it away in a cupboard. All the other scrapers tried rusted or corroded some other way and ended up in the junk heap.

I do not use this tool alone, however. I also use grapeseed oil (the cooking oil with the highest ignition point) to soak the crud and soften it up before I scrape.

Not perfect but effective. Why oh why is it so hard for our great advanced civilization to come up with a way to effectively and easily clean an outdoor grill?

I picked up one of these at Home Depot because I needed something to clean our new porcelain-coated grill before family dropped over for a cookout. It gets the top of the grid clean with relative ease, but I'll be darned if I can figure out how you're supposed to clean in-between the grids! I've tried it at every angle, from every direction, and it just doesn't get in-between. Maybe our grid design is unusually narrow or something, but I doubt it (it's a Weber). So I'll be needing another grill brush to get in-between the grids (possibly this one? http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Bar-B-Q-Wide-Grill-Brush/dp/B000E56CRQ)

Well my 4 year old Charmglow grill from Home Depot decided that the burners were about done a couple of weeks ago. (That review belongs in a different place, can't believe they've already blown out, but maybe I use it too much) On getting replacement burners, I almost decided to get straight replacements, but I've really wanted a sear burner ever since they started gaining in popularity, since steak is one of those once a week dishes that the wife and I enjoy. Enter this dude.

First, it seems really well made. Decent quality stainless steel, better priced than some of the others, and it uses a 1" tube, just like my regular Charmglow burners. The length and width also seemed to be a fit looking at the description, and sure enough, it was a drop in install. Had to tweak the ignitor out of the way, but other than that, it fit perfectly into a grill it wasn't designed for!

The surface area is a bit small, plan on one large ribeye at a time or a couple of smaller cuts of meat. It also doesn't fit my igniter, again, it wasn't designed specifically for my grill, this is just a heads upnothing that a $3 extended reach lighter doesn't fix!

Now performancethis thing works GREAT! Seared off our first steaks this week and it gets super hotexactly what we were looking for. Got a great sear on both sides then move the steaks to the regular burner to finish them off. Great product, great shipping, and better priced than a lot of the others out there.

Also, be aware of your burner BTU. This one is a 12k (ish) BTU sear burner. The larger ones go to 15k and 25kthat's a lot more gas flow. Make sure your grill can handle it.

I ordered this directly from Amazon and what they shipped me was NOT a Cal Flame Burner as shown in the picture. It did not fit my Jenn Air grill and the auto-igniter actually fell off trying to put it in. It does not look like the photo. This is the first issue like this I've ever had with something bought directly from Amazon.

My grill accumulated a lot of crud as a result of many cookouts. I tried to keep it as clean as possible with a wire brush and various cleaning pads and cleaners. I never could get the rack and grates to look like new. There was always a layer of permanent food residue, carbon and other debris that defied removal. I decided to give the Magic Stone Grill Cleaner a shot. It arrived as a light weight square without the grooves shown in the product illustration. I had serious doubts that this thing could do any good. Surprise! Surprise! This is truly a magic stone. It removed everything from the grill parts that I worked on and left them looking like new. The cleaning process did put grooves in the bottom of the stone and that helped to get the sides cleaned off as well.

I am now a true believer and highly recommend this item. I can't speak for any other uses this may have but for cleaning my grill it is a winner.

The Magic Stone works as advertised. The only issue I had was that one stone didn't last long enough to clean the entire grill. As others have commented the "brick" doesn't have grooves at first but as you start to use it the grooves are made. I used "Easy Off" and my "Power Washer" to get most of the grease off my grill but there was still some left over. Magic Stone did take it off but the product is very brittle and as you get closer to the end it just breaks up in your hands. I only ordered one and frankly I could have used two but $11.00 for a one time cleaning is a lot of money. Especially since I like to grill in the summer.

They use specifications on these things that doesnt relate to the shop window version of the product you purchase. i.e. I have a Spirit E320. I had to find a product code and then couldnt find the specification of the regulater. So I bought this in the hope that is was OK. It fitted ok and does the job although the pipe is a bit short. Go for the longer hose if you have a spirit!

I was so satisfied with mine for the first month that I purchased one form my dad as well. About a year later all eight of the probes we had between the two of us are no longer functioning. The thermometer works great, but it is just a paper weight without the probes.

Weber 7420 Gourmet BBQ System Sear Grate Set Reviews

I have a Weber 22.5" One Touch Gold and wanted to obtain restaurant style searing. I was at odds between purchasing the Weber Sear Grate System and the Cast Iron Grates from Crayton. It finally came down to price, availability and ease of use so I ultimately ended up with the Weber Sear Grate System.

When the system arrived, I was pleasantly surprised that the non-cast iron grates were slightly heavier duty as well so I didn't feel like I paid the extra money for the cast iron grates alone. It was easy to setup you take off the original grates, replace with the new system grates, spray or wipe down with oil (I used olive oil), heat up the charcoal (I used the Weber charoal holders in the center) and cook. I waited about 10-15 minutes and placed 4 large strip steaks about 1 3/4" to 2" thick on the sear grates, flipped after approx 5 minutes and was done in about 8-9 minutes. They came out perfectly (medium to medium rare) and had absolutely beautiful sear marks (the best I ever made and I've been grilling for at least 15 years). I also cooked a large london broil and had the same results. As long as you know your cooking time will be shorter, you can't miss and you will end up with great results. When I was done, I left them on the grill to burn any fat or food particles, scraped them off, removed the CI grates to cool, lightly washed them off in the sink, dried, re-oiled and stored them in a plastic bag.

The nice thing is that you don't have to remove the lid to turn your steaks 90 degrees to get the nice sear marks so the steaks cook faster and are less likely to flare up. The other nice thing is they can be removed quickly and washed in the sink with relative ease.

Pros Excellant sear marks and searing, quicker cooking, easy to maintain, and available in most stores including Amazon.

Cons Price is a little high for grates but still about 40% cheaper than the Crayton grates.

Overall I highly recommend the upgrade to anyone that cooks a lot of steaks and wants to obtain better searing and sear marks.

Cast iron grate is porcelain coated but that is OK, so far. I think this accessory is mainly for steaks and similar quick cook items, I can't see a benefit when roasting whole birds. Leaves a distinct grill mark with no problem. Due to the heat retention of the cast iron, I have had to reduce steak cooking times, which is fine as long as the cook is aware of it. The rest of the grate is heavy duty, and I figure that it will easily hold whatever cast iron wok I want to use. As for using a cast iron fry pan or "griddle", I don't see that this grate would be any more useful than if you put a cast iron skillet directly on a normal grate.

Update: 22.5" Weber Kettle, lid off during cooking. I attached Weber Charcoal Rails to the main charcoal grate with Type 302 safety wire. On top of rails, place a charcoal grate for the 18.5" Kettle. Use a single layer of charcoal, ashed over, with the sear grate assembly in place. This has the effect of getting the coals right up under the grate. Best method I have found for cooking the perfect steak and has little to no flare up. Thanks to Meathead at amazingribs.com for the basic idea.

I have used this grate several times for steaks and love it. No more raising the lid and turning the steaks 90 degrees to get the good sear marks. I think the regular grate is better for burgers, chicked, and all other food. The sear grate I use for steaks only, and it does a fantastic job. Being able to leave the lid down except for turning half way through the sear and moving the steaks to the side to finish on indirect heat means much more uniform steaks. As with all Weber kettle grills, cooking on high heat requires monitoring the time cooked to sear and finish on indirect heat very closely. Don't spend too much time sitting down enjoying your beverage while using this.

Superfluous....... But so is the olive in your Martini. Do you absolutely need it? No. Do you want it? Yes, if you want killer, neatly cross hatched, grill marks. I grilled some Fillet Mignons last weekend and found the final presentation awesome. Did the fillets tast better? Probaly not, but as with many things in life they were perceived to be better! Keep it short and sweet.... construction, outstanding. As others have mentioned I was struck by how much heavier this steel portion of the grates are than the stock ones that came with the Weber. I'm parking my stock one as a backup and leaving this thing in the Weber. The cast iron site ideally above the coal holder to suck up all that heat for searing power. The only way to improve these is to go all stainless on the grates but then it would be triple the price I'm sure. (assuming this is not stainless, descriptions don't expressly state).

Outstanding investment. If you're buying a 22.5" Weber, plan on an extra $50 for this addon.

The Weber E320 is a great grill. My only complaint is why, in their instructions, it doesn,t explain that if you don't check the battery under the igniter switch ( did you know there's a battery in that switch?}. It will start to corrode and therefore stop working. Then what happens is many people start lighting their grill manually, which is a pain. I didn't know about this until the igniter stopped working and I started nosing around the and found if you twist the knob to the left, off it comes with the battery inside. I tried to clean the compartment but to no avail. I had to purchase a new igniter kit. I only used the new knob, battery and black box as the wires to the igniter were in good shape. Simply snap the old black box out after removing the knob, detach the wires, attach color coded wires to new box, snap back in, install battery and fire up. After grilling season I will remove the battery for the winter and put in a new battery next season. I hope this will be helpful and 'maybe, just maybe, a new igniter every 2 years won't be necessary'. Thank you.

If you have a Weber 300 (or similar) grill, this is the igniter kit that you need to buy. I give it three stars because the design makes it easy for the battery to get corroded but difficult to clean. Plus, the spark box gets dirty very easily. So every couple of years I need to buy a new one.

On a side note, you can probably find it cheaper somewhere else by searching online for "weber 67726".

Getting my BBQ igniter back working was much more difficult than imagined. The BBQ is a high end Weber bought from our local Ace hardware store about four years ago. When the igniter didn't work this spring, I replaced the battery and it still didn't work. I checked the connections and they were solid. So I went to Ace to get a replacement kit. They had two but the descriptions on the box didn't clearly indicate which would work in my BBQ. The new Webers were slightly different from mine so I could not tell which igniter was needed in the store. I brought one of the kits home and the wires from the spark element to the button were about an inch too short. Ugh. I went online to the Weber site and found that I needed a specific kit for my model that Ace did not carry. I decided to try Amazon and they had it! A few days later I installed the kit and my BBQ is back in business. Terrific!

Great BBQ set for the price nice wood handles. The only thing I did not like is the case that the BBQ set came in it looks like a tool set case which is fine but it feels dry, I guess I might be because its made for outdoors, but it's really not a big deal great product for the money.
