I purchased this extender for a small Big Green Egg. Cheaper than BGE accessories and seems to do just as good a job. My main use for this was to set a pizza stone on it to get the stone into the dome for grilling pizza. Not a perfect solution, but it was much cheaper than buying plate setter. It also makes a good platform for cooking vegetables while meat cooks on the main grill.

The hubbie is into smoking foods on the weekend. After watching some U2 vids, I decided to buy this rack. It is perfect. Quality is good. He uses the 3-2-1 method and this rack comes in handy at last stage when he puts potatoes, veggies on it to make a complete meal.

This is probably the best quality cover I have come across. It is far superior to my Weber Grill Cover for my S670. It has a thick inner lining that I can't imagine ripping and fits perfectly over the smoker

I purchased this grill for football tailgating to heat food fast after games to support the return rush of people. We tailgate after the game as well to let traffic subside. This grill is hot!! even on the lowest setting. I have only been successful cooking burgers and steaks on this grill. Chicken, dogs, and reheating Ribs the grill was just too hot to cook the food through without burning outside. Chicken wings worked but after initial sear had to be transferred to another cooler grill to cook through. My friends nick named it the incinerator.

I was out on the web tonight looking to see if I could find an elevated grill grate to help solve the too hot issue. With one I think this would be an excellent grill.

Reviews of Lodge A1-410 Sportsman's Grill Cover

I never thought I would write a review of a grill cover, but Amazon dared me! Here's the skinny. The cover fits tightly but it is a tad short to cover the legs all the way down to their tips with its strong elastic edge. No big deal, the cast iron legs are not in danger of rusting out. I've had mine out on the patio in the Kansas sun for two summers and it has faded to a gray color on top, still black on the bottom, no big deal from my view either. But one little annoyance is that the seams on the fabric (all the way around the top edge when it is on) leak. So in a heavy rain water will drip inside and lead to surface rusting. That kind of defeats the purpose of the cover. This can probably be solved with the use of tent seam sealer. Are there awards for this kind of vital, investigative consumer reporting? The grill is great!

(Husband writing review:) I use my Lodge Sportsman as often as possible, but sometimes it still has to go into storage for a while. This is a rugged cover that is custom fit, and I appreciate how much cleaner my grill is when I pull it out. Keeps the dust and cobwebs to a minimum; keeps the rain out if you forget and leave it outside. It's well worth it if you're going to invest in the grill.

I got both the grill and this cover last week. Contrary to what one of the reviews says here, it fits perfectly with no shortage at the bottom. I have provided my own photograph at the top of this page that shows the cover on my grill. The elastic at the bottom of the cover allows it to pull tight UNDER the feet of the grill allowing very little chance of rain getting directly on the grill. You're still going to have to put up with the possibility of rust on the grill simply from moisture in the air, but at least it won't be raining on it.

The cover conforms perfectly to sportsman grill and looks pretty good to boot. However, after the first day in the rain I noticed that it had been leaking a small bit of water through which created rust spots on the charcoal grate. Being non-waterproof is kind of a big deal for a cast iron grill.

Will have to waterproof the seams.

I have had this grill for a little over a week and have used it about five times, cooking everything from country style ribs, to bratwurst, to hamburgers. It has performed far better than I thought any electric grill could. It is well built, easy to set up, clean, and store.

My main fear was that an electric grill could not get hot enough to properly brown meat. This was not a problem. Bratwurst, ribs, and hamburger were brown and crisp and could have been blackened if I had chosen to. I had no issues with uneven heat at all. I also had no flareups (in other words, the hood works well.)

I want to address two issues raised in the negative reviews. One is of weak/uneven cooking. Properly used, I found it to be neither weak nor uneven. Nor does it cost nearly half a grand, occupy a large amount of space, and weigh well over a hundred pounds like the grill it is apparently inferior to. The other issue was difficulty in cleaning. Well, the 12 x 16 grid lifts off and lays in the bottom of my sink. The glass comes out with the release of two wing nuts. The heat reflector snaps off the heating element and takes about 30 seconds to remove or put back. Once removed it can scraped, wire brushed, washed in the sink, or tossed in the dishwasher. I don't plan to clean the reflector often (hey, the more smoke the better), but it is not a major challenge.

Grill construction is quite sturdy. The grid is heavy 7/32" steel and is far heftier and stronger than I expected. The hood hinges are double on both sides and are not flimsy. The finish on the hood and body looks and feels like it will be durable. The steel thickness is about .04" or so. The unit felt stable even with the hood open. The handles are strong and nothing flexes or tips when lifting (with the lid closed!!!) the grill. The heavy duty electric cord is about 7 feet long.

The rotatable heating element/reflector is ingenious. This makes cleaning the reflector possible and enables rotisserie cookery. I don't plan to use the rotisserie a lot, but it appears to be very well set up. I made sure it functioned, but have not cooked with it.

I have used wood smoking chips when doing ribs and that worked quite well. I also used the grill to slow simmer the ribs in a covered aluminum pan after they were seared and smoked. This worked very well, since the thermostat allows a wide range of temperatures.

What would I change? I would make the glass retainer system more foolproof, so that the retainers lock in the correct position and make over tightening impossible. I would also replace the steel grid with cast iron. The black coating on this grid is not going to last and nothing is better than cast iron for grilling.

Overall, I love this thing. I have owned many grills (always charcoal) over the years. Nothing can match the taste of charcoal. But this little Meco gives excellent results far more conveniently and economically. My ritual of sipping beer, watching smoke waft, listening to drippings sizzle, reveling in the aroma of barbecue, and merging with the Colorado sky has never been so sweet. Happy grilling.

i moved to a condo with a balcony on which charcoal and gas grills are prohibited, but electric grills are permitted. after years of pleasure with my meco charcoal grill, i was prepared to be let down because electric could never be as good.

i am as happy with this electric grill as i was with my charcoal grill. actually, i am as happy with the grilled food as i was before; it's the outcome which counts more than the process.

This is my second Meco Model 9309W, bought to replace the first one purchased 15 years ago. We live in Minneapolis and grill every week, all year long, and the Meco is the reason why. It's just too easy to fire it up and start gilling. The drip pan below the heating element provides pleanty of smokey flavor for burgers, brats, pork chops, steaks, etc. Turn the heating element to the side to use the rotisserie and we get incredible roast chicken, pork loin roasts, rolled turkey breast,... anything. Meco has kept the design simple, durable, and compact. Good for any house or appartment with a deck/porch and a nearby electrical outlet, and it's easy to clean. Meco has their act together!

Use this item @ my Fla Condo can't use a gas grille. This grille is good for the money couldn't beat the price anywhere & shipping was prompt. Compared to other electric grilles ( Weber, patio chef etc.) that I shopped for at the box stores there's no difference in what they all can do & Meco quality is as good if not better than most. The Meco takes a while to heat up (approx.10 15mins) but does a good job after it has. The drip pan is finicky to get out & not easy to clean as everything really gets baked on. Covering it with heavy gauge tinfoil solves that problem. As well the shiny side of the tin foil helps in the pre-heating process & cooking. The porcelain grille needs to be sprayed with a cooking oil as, again, things really stick to it due to the proximity of the cooking element. It's not as good as a gas grille but what electric grille is. For balcony situations it's ideal & I'd buy it again.

I have been using these smoker bags for several years. the first time I used them I bought them from my local Cub foods grocery store. i however now just order them on line since I can get them year around. I have used them on the grill, but mostly inside in the oven. I use them mainly for smoking ribs and turkey legs. They always come out perfect. Everyone compliments me on the flavor and tenderness of the meat. I usually finish them up on the gas grill with barbeque sauce for that perfct taste. I have given these away to friends nd family and they are now using them. I would be really surprised if anyone tried them and didn't like them.

UPDATE

I used a smoker bag to make incredible pulled pork. I used a 6 lb pork shoulder and seasoned it. Placed in the smoker bag at 225. I put mine in the oven at midnight and let it slow roast till 7 am. I was afraid at this low heat it would not get smokey enough but it was perfect. I pulled the pork apart in the juices from the bag and it was as good as any pulled pork I've had.

I have only used one bag so far, but I put in a 2-lb salmon fillet glazed with an apple juice reduction and the results were so delicious that my family of three ate the entire fillet in one sitting. Neither my husband, nor my daughter have ever even liked salmon before. It was incredibly easy, the directions are very clear, and best of all: no mess to clean up!

I've lived in apartments with no outdoor space for years-but can always get nicely smoked foods by using these bags. True, your entire home will smell like wood smoke, but not such a bad thing (you can always undercook a bit, take the meat out and finish it outside the bag if you don't want a strong smell to linger). The times for cooking and the recipes included on the inside are right on target every time, you really can't go wrong. Makes wonderful brisket-I let it cool after cooking, slice it, and then add sauce and reheat. My friends and I agree that the poultry/fish bags aren't quite as good.

The first I tried was a similar import from William's Foods, but they no longer carry these. Wish I could get them locally, but this works!

To the person who rated this low to due getting just 1 bag...read what you order. Very unfair to rate a product 1 star due to your own error.

The bags are great!! So far I've only tried the alder one which gives a lighter taste than the mesquite.

I bought a 4-pack of rainbow trout from and rubbed kosher salt inside the fish a couple of hours before cooking. Preheated oven to 475F, placed 1 large cubed zucchini and the 4 fish inside the bag, folded closed and placed on a low rack. Lowered temp to 375F after 15 min and continued for another 25-30 min (3 lbs of fish) = perfection! My kids were crazy about eating "fish tummy" and this couldn't have been any easier to cook or easier to clean up.

A very light smoke lingered around the kitchen, but nothing that I'd need to even open the windows for. If the smell is a problem, use your bbq (instructions include oven, coal or gas grill).

Too bad the price is such a rip off...these are available for under a buck in Finland.

I love these bags. Make the best ribs ever. I put ribs in the bag with a dry rub according to directions. After about 1 hour, I take out of oven and let sit for 30 min. Then I slit the bag down the top, add a gooey sauce and broil or BBQ to brown. Moist, delicious---everyone raves as the meat falls off the bones. The whole process takes less than 2 hours.

This device is a bit short , so you can't stack as many items as on a skewer. I found them a little difficult to flip over because of the short, narrow stem. This could be improved vastly.

These really hold onto the food and makes for easy turning and grilling meat and veggies no more flimsy wooden skewers!

You should note, however, that they are stainless steel and will hold the heat past cooking time on the grill. If you like med. rare, adjust your cooking time down a minute or two or, better yet, remove the meat from the skewers immediately after removing from the grill. This is the reason for 4 stars or it can be chalked up to a user problem the first time we used them!

I have to say that the con to this devices is the spit itself... come on why would make a spit in two pieces attached by a nut that bind the two pieces together ... to me it seems it is the weakest point in the whole device. I broke mine while I was tightening it... luckily I ran out to buy a cheap rotisserie for the 1 piece spit it contained... I wasn't sure about buying this rotisserie after reading other negative reviews and wish I hadn't. It didn't even make it to the grill. The rod comes in 2 parts that have to be screwed in, one into the other, and the threaded end snapped off before it was even tightened down all the way. This is clearly not well-made and I would guess if it had made it into use, something else would have failed later on.

Overall I was happy with the product. However, the 2-piece spit broke during the 3rd use. Fortunately the chicken was done when the spit broke so I didn't lose a meal. This wasn't really unexpected since I've owned a rotisseri with this type of spit before. I'll have to get a 1-piece spit in order to be able to use it again. Other than that, the motor is strong enough to turn an 8 pound chicken so so all in all it's a good product.

Being a "former" fork pulling pork puller, I have to say that the Bear Paws is a great gadget to have on hand.

The first weekend I had the paws, I was cooking 40 lbs of pork butts.

I literally pulled all 4 butts in less than 20 minutes, whereas is with forks each butt might take 15 minutes alone.

I love the other reviewer's idea of using these to pull pork, but I bought the bear paws so that I could finally pick up and move large, roasted objects securely, from off of the flames, or just out of the roasting pan--and they do a fantastic job for both. Folks, this is a very simple item that will make a very simple cooking task MUCH friendlier to perform. There's not a lot to say about a pair of claws you use to pick up hot stuff, except: Where have they been all my life?

I can't understand why the cooking stores have bear paw shaped salad tossers, but not these, which answer a much more immediate and (because of the temperatures involved) important kitchen need than how to move a piece of lettuce or two around in a bowl. Thankfully, we can get them online!

As advertised. I thought that the plastic would have been made more durable. After just a few uses pulling some pork tenderloin's, the ends curled up a bit so they are less effective now. I didn't pull the pork when it was super hot either so they didn't melt down. I think they would be better if they were metal.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this product but it did the job in tearing apart pulled pork. I ended up using my hands when the forks became so greasy that holding on to them was difficult and I kept holding them backwards which makes me wonder if the handle shapes couldn't use improvement to make them more comfortable and secure. They definitely were better than tableware forks and a must if the meat is still too hot for you hands.
