These preformed as described and got the job done. We made a huge bowl of veggies and strung them up. They grilled up perfectly and the cable matched the contours of the round Weber kettle well. I'm sure it would would just as well on a regular grill, but it really shines on the Weber.

Turning the veggies was easy; just picked up the pointy end and flipped the whole rope. The plate on the other side kept the soft vegs from slipping off the other end.

I love this product.

These were purchased for a gift, I haven't used them, but they looked like they were a nicely made and no different than the cheaper ones you can get in store. Nice for people who have smaller grills because they are flexible and when you don't want to spend a ton of money. These look like they will serve their purpose.

Smokenator 1000 - Transform Your 22" Weber Kettle Into Efficient Review

Smokenator 1000 - Transform Your 22' Weber Kettle Into Efficient Smoker

I felt kind of silly spending over $50 (including shipping) for a piece of sheet metal, but I do not regret it after using this. The Smokenator Man obviously did his home work because it maintains a consistent 230 degree temperature inside my Weber kettle--perfect for lovely smoky pulled pork goodness! The time he spent in researching the settings, and writing the instruction manual makes this a worthwhile purchase. The construction is top notch a nice sturdy piece of stainless steel that conforms perfectly to the interior of the grill.

One caveat--The instructions are written for the "modern" Weber 22 ½' grills the types with the one touch ash removal system. I have a caveman model, old school grill (circa 1997) that has the 3 round vents similar to the vent on the kettle lid. The extensive tables in the manual and a little high school geometry allowed me to find the temperature "sweet spot" for my grill.

I have also used my Smokenator with the ring that came with my Weber rotisserie (see my review for that device.) This allows for a much larger cooking chamber -perfect when smoking a lot of food for a crowd.

3 reasons to buy this:

1. Cheaper than buying a new smoker

2. Saves room on my patio--Made my Weber Kettle even more of a multi tasker.

3. Easier to tend than Brinkman barrel smoker or Weber Smoky Mountain, as the fueling and food handling are done at waist level--no bending over or crawling around on the ground.

I've owned this product for about 4 years and have cooked just about every smokeable meat countless times; every cut of pork, sausages, brisket, salmon, chicken, Thanksgiving turkeys, and so on. I've only now just gotten around to writing a review. There's so much to write. I don't even know where to begin. Oh muses of smoke and fire, I invoke you now.

Some people look at it and think, "I just paid $70 for some sheet metal? Lame." Yes, you're paying for some sheet metal, but what you're really paying for with the Smokenator is American ingenuity. This isn't an elaborate design created by a rocket scientist; this is an ordinary person's great idea to solve a common problem. Don Thompson, rest his soul, looked at a big dead-ass turkey and thought, "There's gotta be a way I can cook this thing on my Weber without drying it out." Necessity is the mother of invention. It's rare when a product does exactly what it is designed to do and offers so much versatility with such a small learning curve. Don's instructions are so detailed and thorough that they basically taught me the principles of heat control, not just for the Smokenator, but for all barbecue cooking methods.

Everything I've made on the Smokenator has turned out amazing, but it particularly excels with pork butts and poultry. My Christmas turkey in 2010 is still the stuff of legend. One thing that I really like about the Smokenator is that once you learn how to control the temperature well enough, you can basically create any range of heat you want/need--from the ulta low 'n slow 180-200 range to 350 for poultry and higher. Temps can be controlled in three ways: bottom vent, top vent, and removing/leaving the water pan. Once you've used it as much as I have, you learn which method is appropriate for your situation.

Now, with that all said, there really is one thing that could be improved about the design: the water pan is simply too small. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is a way to get around this, and I'll get to that soon, but what I really want to do is share a collection of tricks that, when combined, get you the most out of your Smokenator. Here's what I've learned after using it for 4 years:

1. Get the flip top grate. This is imperative. It will allow you to quickly and easily add fuel and wood chunks to the cavity. If you don't have one or can't afford it, use a hacksaw to saw off the bars over the cavity.

2. The water pan is primarily a heat-sink. The steam it creates is certainly nice, but first and foremost it is there to regulate temperature. To do this, it does not need to be in the cavity with the charcoal. It can simply sit on top of the grate over the hole. This allows you to get MUCH more fuel into the fuel cavity, so much that you can get close to 8-9 hours with a single load. That is astounding.

3. I knew the water pan was a pre-made thing that must come in different sizes. I tried for years to figure out what it was called so I could buy a bigger one. After searching in bread pan sections of kitchen stores for years, I finally stumbled across what I was looking for. It's called an "anti-jam steam table pan," and yes, you can buy them on Amazon:Excellante Quarter Size 4-Inch Deep 24 Gauge Anti Jam Pans. With this pan, you'll be able to increase your water capacity from 1-2 hours to 4-6. That means more uninterrupted smoking time.

4. Use hardwood briquettes. I've found Trader Joe's briquettes to be outstanding. They last twice as long as Kingsford and cost the same amount of money. That said, Kingsford briquettes are a solid product that always give you consistent and quality results. Kingsford competition briquettes are the best fuel source I've ever used, but they're hard to find and more expensive. However, if you can find them, go for it!

With this set-up, once you get your desired temps dialed in, you'll be able to leave your Weber unattended for up to 4 hours. That's enough to go play a round of golf or take the kids to the pool. The Smokenator is one of my all-time favorite purchases. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. RIP Don Thompson.

If you believe in reviews, this is a no-brainer, folks. This thing was a gift and as a master BBQ-er and smoker (IMHO ) I was really skeptical. A skeptic no more.

Want super-stable low smoking temperatures out of your Weber? Want to never have to worry about scorched or dry edges? Want people to tell you that, "This is the best xxxxx I've ever tasted!" ?

Then, this is your secret weapon. I've used mine so much that the stainless steel is black.

Believe me (and all the other reviewers,) you will wonder where this gizmo has been all your life.

Honest reviews on Smokenator 1000 - Transform Your 22" Weber Kettle Into Efficient

Why didn't I think of this.......I've used a Weber for many years and this has to be the best thing for someone who loves a Weber kettle to cook on! I've kept a constant temp of about 240-250 for well over 6 hours without having to touch the kettle. Why wouldn't you want one??

Don, the man who makes and sells this product knows customer service. I ordered this on a Monday evening, and I had it in Fridays' mail. Also, I had one question, which I emailed him on a Sunday night, and he answered the same night.

Now, about the product. This item is well built, and is pretty dummy proof. I did not know it, but the thermometer that I had recently installed from a major home improvement store was flaky. At times it reads 100 degrees higher than actual. Even so, following the directions and setting the vent as per the manual gave me great results. I have a bullet style water smoker already, and the smokenator is giving me better results. The results are also superior to just stacking up coals on the left and the right with a pan seperating them. For just a few bucks, you can get this with the hovergrill. The hovergrill really gives you a lot more space if you ever smoke more than a couple of items at once.

I recommend this to anyone. But it would be especially usesful if you can't afford, or have no desire to buy a dedicated smoker. Over all, I recommend this over any bullet smoker.

Well, don't be fooled, this item does NOT fit the Big Easy FRYER, it fits the SMOKER, which has a larger basket. Couldn't find the FRYER racks on Amazon, but they are on the Char-Broil web site.

Over the last 30 years, I've used at least a couple of dozen different grill brushes and this is by far the best ... definately a keeper. The Weber T-handle brush is similar, but this is of heavier construction and made in the USA. Over the past year, no bristles have been lost and it hasn't loaded up to the point of being ineffective after heavy and frequent use. Look no further ... this is the best.

I bought this brush for my new Weber Genesis E-320 because the bristles are brass and the grill has enameled porcelain cast iron grates (I've read that brass will not scratch the porcelain). It does an amazing job of cleaning every inch of the grates, on top and especially on the sides of the grates (no scraper needed!). I highly recommend this brush for your grill. The flexible shaft that creates less pressure on the porcelain, coupled with the brass bristles will make your grates last forever. And of course, Prime shipping was amazing as always.

Best Deals for Brushtech Spiral Wide-Faced Heavy-Duty Barbecue Grill Brush

This company's brushes are made near Pittsburgh. Want to support Made in USA?? These products will surpass any others in quality. The BBQ brush is stiff brass and cleans really well. Solid handle and brush frame. You will not be satisfied with others after this. I do like to also have a metal scraper blade, but I use my stainless spatula for that. Good product.

Honest reviews on Brushtech Spiral Wide-Faced Heavy-Duty Barbecue Grill Brush

I purchased this item a while back and am now getting around to the review. The brush was purchased because of the Made in USA logo and an apparent history of positive reviews. My expectations were high and this brush fell short on 3 critical points.

1) Poor cleaning performance. There is an insufficient amount of bristle material that actually contacts the grill surface. In fact, the twisted wire frame appears to make as much contact with the grilling surface and for this reason it is not an affective cleaning tool for the 6 month old tubular stainless steel cooking grids of my Weber Genesis grill.

2) Far too flexible. The twisted wire frame of this brush seems to be a great concept from a manufacturing perspective but falls short in cleaning performance as the frame handle is not ridged enough for affective cleaning and I find myself bending the brush severely to try and clean by grates thoroughly.

3) Rusting and corrosion. After 4 weeks of use the twisted wire frame that supports the bristles is severely rusted. About 2 of these weeks the brush was protected by the Weber nylon cover and the other 2 weeks exposed to the elements. Considering point number 1 above, this means the rusty wire directly contacts the cooking grids of the Weber grill when cleaning. In some capacity means I am eating off cooking grids cleaned with a rusty brush. Not appetizing or recommended.

Conclusion: Not a good choice for users of the Weber Genesis with stainless tube grates and those that expect outdoor items not to immediately rust. Outdoor products that immediately rust drive me nuts. Let's charge 2 bucks more for this one and make it right. America can do better than this. Looking forward to a better one at some point either from these folks or a competitor.

I needed a BRASS brush for my new Weber grill, so as not to damage the porcelain coated grates. This brush is exactly what I wanted. It is BIG, and appears to be very well constructed. The brass bristles get in between the grate "bars" and clean them perfectly with very little effort. It looks like it will hold up well to frequent use, but of course only time will tell. I recommend this item for all Weber grill owners.

I bought this at a grocery store while on vacation. I thought it would be better than the other small, cheap grills they had. Wrong...

First off, airflow is everything when you're grilling with charcoal. This grill has inferior airflow, with only one vent on the bottom and one on the lid, with the vent on the lid being the only way to control airflow. It needs at least two vents to get enough air to the fire, but that wouldn't be enough to save this grill.

Second, The metal on this grill is way too thin. I went to latch down the lid. The baked-on porcelain flaked right off and the metal under the latches bent.

And I still don't know where the "vortex" part comes in. I would suggest you spend your money on the Weber Smokey Joe charcoal grill, which is one dollar less at a certain Arkansas-based national retailer, and will last for years (and you'll be supporting Weber, a great American company, in the process.)

I got this at a local market on the clearance rack for $5. Figured can't beat that with the price. Assembly was easy and got it up and running in no time. The other review is absolutely right that it needs another vent. Was very difficult to get the charcoal to cook down from the lack of air. What I did though was slide out the ash catcher to expose the bottom vent holes and then the grill was good. It is not the greatest but for a picnic grill and the price it is fine. I recommend a Weber smoky joe over this though.

Put these gauges on my custom built smoker. The face is a little small, but with being color coded makes checking the temp range quick, witch when cooking competitively can be nice as time is not always something readily available. The two pack is convenient as I can more closely monitor my cooking temp through the hole smokers surface witch is five foot long. The gauges stem length is perfect. long enough to get an accurate reading but not to long were it interferes with the meat.

If you want to wait 6 hours to eat then maybe this is for you. The grill isn't deep enough to keep the coals lit, which in effect takes hours for them to heat up. I bought this little thing for portable use, but it takes more time to re-assemble it and waiting all day to for the coals.... it's just not worth it, at all. It makes for a fine paper-weight.

I love this grill cover. The grill cover air vents were a little larger than what I thought they would be but overall they do a great job and no water gets in the grill. I live in Chicago, and the wind goes through there and fills up the grill cover, but the grill cover features velcro tie down's on the sides that keep the grill cover secure and there is no worry of the cover flying off. Both the grey and black sides look really good I was pleased to find that the black side is not the shiny film cover that you see on so many cheaper grill covers. It looks and functions like a thick, high quality grill cover.

I did tons of research online to find the best gas grill. I wanted a good quality grill that will last, not rust out and not need constant upkeep and replacement parts. I'm only cooking for my wife and I so I did not need a huge oversized grill. I checked all of the local big box stores. The smaller grills at these stores had a nice price tag ($80-$150) but they were so flimsy and all of the online reviews said they either rusted out or broke after a year or two of use. I was willing to step it up a notch and pay more, but in the big box stores all you get for a bigger price tag is a bigger grill that will still rust out and break down after a couple of years. I wanted something that would last. The next option up in the big box stores was to purchase a Weber. Weber has a great reputation for quality, but they are so expensive and big. I found that the Broil King brand was the perfect solution to my problem. They build high quality grills (via Onward Manufacturing Co. which has some affiliateion with Weber, but I'mnot sure what.) Broil King has several differnt models with a lot of configurations and options. They are one of the few companies that use cast aluminum for the oven (it will not rust and comes with a lifetime warranty). Their burner design is praised in online reviews and comes with a 5 year warranty. They use heavy duty cast iron cooking grids that weigh over seven pounds each. Their heat diffuser (Flav-R-Wave) is made of heavy duty stainless steel (other companies use cheap steel..just a step up from aluminum foil). I finally narrowed my search down to a Monarch or Crown model. Amazon's price ($319), no tax and free shipping sold me on the Monarch 40.

One thing to note, is that the stand looks like stainless steel, but it isn't. It is steel painted to look like stainless. Also, I agree with another poster that the stand could use some extra stffness. The fact that the casters are plastic bother me, but they work and they are used on all of the Broil King's grills. So I think the only con on the Monarch line is the cart/stand. It will last, but I think the actual grill will outlast the cart. Of course, this is the bottom of the Broil King line. In the end, I think I finally found what I was looking for. I just wish Broil King was sold in more local stores. If they were, the would tear up the competition!

One final thought. The "Mr. Bar-B-Q Platinum Prestige Medium Grill Cover" is the perfect fit and best quality cover I have found. It was only $19.99 when I bought it...and free shipping!

After dealing with corroding cooking grates, extremely uneven heat, and a bottom that had nearly rotted through my old grill, I decided it was time to replace my 6yr old Coleman grill. On one shoulder was a little voice "buy a Weber", while on the other was the cost-conscious "get another box-store special".

I wanted Weber quality at a reasonable price. I think the Broil King line is a great compromise. There are some obvious cost saving measures in the construction but they appear to be away from the major cooking components. The oven box (cast aluminum), cooking grates (cast-iron, NOT porcelin coated), and burners (stainless steel) are all high quality.

The pedistal on which the grill sits is where the construction seems a bit shoddy but this is a relatively light grill (being cast aluminum) and doesn't need a TON of support on which to rest. The pedistal is painted sheet metal which you bolt to the plastic base. It seems very light and flimsy when handling the components but when put together is actually very sturdy. Similarly, the side shelves are molded plastic, but one nice part is that they fold down for a lower profile when storing, and seem good and sturdy when in the upright position.

As for the performance of the grill, I've only cooked on it once but it is terrific. The heat is VERY even, and with the lid down it heats to 600 degrees in a matter of about 10-15 minutes. My first meal on the grill was a pork tenderloin which was juicy, delicious, and evenly cooked throughout. Even the grilled asparagus was a breeze with the even heat provided by the burners/cast iron grates. The grill slowly came down to a nice med/low heat. Precise temperature control appears to be one of the strong suits of the burners in this unit.

And in a boneheaded move, upon preheating the grill for my first meal, I mistakenly lit both burners, AND the side burner while the cover was still down. Coming back out to the grill 10 minutes later I realized my mistake, but it was too late the paint on the side-burner cover was burning/melting, as was the plastic handle. I later called the Broil King customer service line and then quoted me about $5 for the parts, and $10 for shipping fair enough I thought. Then the rep tells me that they're going to send it out to me free of charge! Awesome customer service!

As another reviewer mentioned, they have an affiliation with Weber, as I believe all Weber grills in Canada are sold through Onward manufacturing (the maker of Broil King). It makes perfect sense, b/c their service is top notch. Try getting that kind of response from one of the box store brands....

I'm looking forward to many years of happy outdoor cooking with this grill, and am confident that if/when I need to relpace something it will be easily handled by Broil King's customer service. I am also confident that if I take reasonable care of the grill it's lifespan will challenge the Weber that I was looking at that cost nearly double.

Bottom line: Nice grill, great price (esp. with Amazon prime free shipping), great company to deal with. As long as you're not hung up on the name brand sitting on your deck, get one and don't look back you're wallet will thank you.

Best Deals for Broil King 934664 Monarch 40 40,000-BTU Liquid-Propane Gas Grill

I chose the Broil King over a Weber Spirit 210 after much study and indecision. Walmart discounted the Webers by (...) but they did not have cast iron grates. Home Depot has the Weber with the cast iron grates but at full retail (Walmart now has dropped price on Weber by (...) for floor models. The reviews of the Broil King were all very good and I liked the style and the cast iron grates which make for a great sear. I purchased my Monarch 40 from Amazon and received it in 2 days with free shipping. The box arrived with a hole in the side which looked like a forklift had missed a pallet and hit the box. I opened the box fearing the worse. There was no apparent forklift damage but three key pieces were bent. Both sides of the stand were bend along the fringe where the holes are placed for assembly. The front edge of the grill oven itself, the most visible area below the knobs, was bent in two places. I began assembly and realized that the second plastic caster (small wheel) was missing. I will be calling customer service tomorrow and will follow up with a report on service. The grill was very easy to assemble although the directions are not very detailed. Much of the assembly is obvious and there are no steps that take you too far so you have to disassemble if you make a mistake. I had to use a red brick to balance for the missing castor but the grill fired right up and was at nearly 700 degrees in about 15 minutes. I seared and cooked boneless chicken breast, onions wrapped in foil and attempted to cook tofu kabobs but they stuck onto the grate and the warming rack (my mistake not the grill). The chicken and onions turned our great and when I turned down the temperature it leveled off to around 250 300 degrees and the chicken was moist inside but with a nice sear. At over (...), it was extremely distressing to find bent parts. Only the bent edge of the oven is visible once assembled. Missing a castor was irritating as well. It seems like the actual cooking parts of the grill are solid and well made and I was pleased with the first cooking experience. I had what I think was a small Broil King in the 1990s that lasted several years and the stand gave out before the actual oven. I am hoping I will get that type of performance from this one and that I do not regret passing up the Weber. I have tried Uniflame and Charbroil grills and never got more than a year to 18 months out of them before parts rusted, broke off of stopped working. I would recommend this grill based upon my initial impressions notwithstanding the bent parts and missing castor. There are a lot of bad grills out there and few worth parting with (...) or more. From my research, Broil King and Weber appear to be a safe investment.

Honest reviews on Broil King 934664 Monarch 40 40,000-BTU Liquid-Propane Gas Grill

This grill got high marks on a grill-review site. Had a good price here and so chose it based on positive reviews. Love it. Have grilled steaks, salmon, burgers, chicken, etc. Starts easily and cooks great. Very hot, and warms up quickly. Most grills have gone to a molded sheet metal cook box, but this one is cast aluminum...so it is sturdier and maintains better temperature. Cooking grid is cast iron which is better for grilling...plus gives nice sear marks. Flameup preventer works great and is far superior to other grills I've owned. Can cook really hot, with very few flameups. It's cheaper than other grills, but the economy pieces are the base and sides...not the cook box (which is the most important part). I am VERY pleased with this purchase.

I read many of the reviews before deciding to buy this model of grill. While it is better than many grills on the market in this price range, Broil King's quality seems to have gone down over the years. The box arrived with only minor outside damage, nothing that would cause internal harm. The grill was not difficult to put together even though some of the graphics were not the best. Several of the sheet metal pieces had to be tweaked back in to place due to minor bends. The screws and nut assemblies seem to indicate poorer quality hardware as them seem to give as they were being tightened. The description says the cast iron grates are porcelain covered and they are not.

The next day I went and bought a new tank to try it out, only to find out the ignitor doesn't work. Tried a new battery and still nothing. Not a problem it has a hole to light the burner with a butane lighter. The grill reaches temperature quickly and easily achieves 600 F. The outside ends get a lot hotter than the center especially when using one burner. I tried wiping the cast iron grates with oil and seasoning them but so far it has not resulted in any lasting effect. It would have been nice if they were porcelain coated as the description states. On a positive note flare ups have not been a problem and the cast aluminum housing will last a lifetime. I still enjoy cooking on it and it will beat many of the grills in this price category in a side by side comparison.

These brush heads replaced my Char-broil scrubber brush great, it was my preferred alternative to buying a new scrubbing brush all-together. It works great to get rid of debris left on a grill, even if it has been there for a while.

Have not used them yet because I have not needed to replace the new ones that came with the brush.

Honest reviews on Char-Broil Brush Hawg Stainless-Steel and Nylon Grill-Brush

not much to say other than they are great. I'd say the only down side is they are a little tough to get out of the brush body.

I bought this for a Sears infrared outdoor BBQ. If you seen one the grates are really hard to clean because of the v-shaped grill. The Hawg grill brush and replacement heads work great!! It gets in all the nooks and cranny's.

I have had this grill now for four months. Used it about 15 times. I have the infra red side burner and rotisserie. Not used the Rotisserie yet, will add to this revue when I have.

First the good:The grill is packaged very well. My delivery guy was excellent in getting the grill to the back yard and helping check for damages ( there were a few holes in the packaging). It takes two people to lift out all the parts and lay them out for assembly. The assembly instructions are good and I took about 3 hours to put it together, taking my time and making sure all nuts and bolts were tight. The trickiest part was getting the doors aligned (see later). This requires some fiddling with the squareness and straightness of the frame. Also a couple of extra thick washers were required to get the doors high enough to miss the bottom of frame. So after assembly, the total package is very heavy and requires two people and a bit of ingenuity to get it into place.Once in place, the grill is easy to light.

Second the excellent: It takes about 3 minutes to get really hot, unbelievable power. Once hot, the grids can be cleaned, then turn all burners down to low before starting to grill. The infra red side burner is outstanding as a way to sear meats before placing them on the main grill to cook the inside of the meat. I found that most foods could be cooked with the lid up. If you put the lid down, don't leave it too long or the food will burn. This grill puts out a lot of heat! I have also used a cast iron griddle plate to cook small items that would fall through the grates, that works well too. This grill cooks very well if you are attentive; don't leave it alone and hope things will work out.

Third, the bad: We live in a wet humid climate (North Carolina). The condiment basket started to rust in 2 months. I threw it away. The grill comes with a ice bucket and cutting board. No use to me. My grill is placed in front of a wall. In order to clean out the grease trap and trash collection tray, the grill must be moved away from the wall as these items are removed from the REAR of the grill. This means you must pick up and rotate the grill. The doors them become misaligned (due to the heavy weight of the grill). If you are on a smooth surface and can just push the grill on its wheels then this will not be a problem for you. The locking casters on this grill are completely inaccessible. They are under the grill and cannot be locked. Okay if you are on the flat surface, but thoughtless design. Ignition: it usually works, but sometimes takes a few twists of the knob for my left hand burner to light. It was like this from new.

Fourth the ugly: If the grill is left uncovered, a heavy rain will flood the inside of the grill. This will fill the grease trap and then drip down inside the grill. A real possibility for rust on the interior. If you start to grill and it rains you cannot put the cover on the grill until it cools down, so the rain gets into the grease trap anyway. If your grill will be under cover, this will not be a problem, but if it is outside exposed to elements, believe me its a BIG problem. Finally, if you are cooking foods which drip grease (and who does not?), the materials that fall into the junk catcher under the burners will catch fire. You will then have a "grill fire". This can be solved with a water spray bottle, but be aware, it's a problem. You can not leave this grill unattended.

Overall for a grill that is around $900, I expected it to be better designed and engineered. True, it cooks very well and has plenty of power, but the negatives are too many for me to give it 4 stars.

Edit at 2/25/2012:

Have now used the grill several times and the rotisserie four times, three chickens and a leg of lamb. The rotisserie works extremely well and food is cooked perfectly. However, since you must keep the lid down while do this, the grill must be maintained at a constant temperature. This requires much fiddling with the flame strength on the rotisserie burner. It does a great job, but takes a lot of attention. The rain coming in is now less of a problem as I keep the grill covered at all times. this is not always possible if the rain comes while the grill is too hot to put the cover on. I also modified the grease trap to allow rain to run out of it, down a vinyl tube to the ground. Still have problems with grease fires. I wonder if the designers of this grill read reviews or care how consumers use their products. I think you can find better better grills for $900.

Most compare this grill with a Weber because build quality and price points are very similar. The only reason I removed one star is because the Weber looks better in person, but that's the only complaint about Napoleon. The Weber's oven sides are still painted cast metal just like the Napoleon, but they make the color the same as the stainless and then cover the seam with a stainless band and it gives the appearance of a fully stainless hood and oven.

Otherwise the Napoleon is the best thing around at this price point. It has great high and low heat, is set with indirect cooking in mind, cooks evenly, and is easy to use as a smoker, and you can cook with charcoal as on option! The rotisserie works great, and the infrared side burner is a nice inclusion, although the grill will get hot enough to sear without it. With the infrared side burner/searer you don't have a flame blowing out on a windy day, and you can use it as a searing station, although it's not the biggest searing station. You can fit two rib eyes on there maximum.

For me the option to cook with charcoal won me over. There's a charcoal tray you have to buy separately but it's not expensive, and you can convert about half the grill surface to charcoal that will even light by the grill flames! It also has EXCELLENT low heat and indirect heat, and the hood is pretty tightly sealed up for flame roasting and smoking. In all these ways it's better than the Weber. If all you're going to do is cook straight over open flame the Weber might be easier because it's just as well made and better looking and you can buy parts at the local hardware store. If you want to cook with charcoal, very low flame, indirect, smoke, etc., you'll be glad you got the Napoleon. The other thing I LOVE about the Napoleon is that the heat dispersion plates (Weber calls them flavorizer bars) are a solid surface beneath the grill grates. This is awesome for a few reasons. First, grease and food debris doesn't get into the bottom of the grill as easy. Second, that grease smokes up more and adds flavor. Third, you can add porcelain or lava rocks that catch and hold grease, which are really a great way to get more smoky flavor in your food, although they do sometimes make flare-ups more common and reduce the top heat. I space them out towards the rear and it does a great job. You can't do that on a Weber because there's no where to put the rocks.

So in short if you really love grilling and want as much versatility as possible, go with the Napoleon for sure. I've cooked steaks, leg of lamb, whole chicken both rotisserie and butterflied on the grill, brats and burgers, smoked a pork shoulder, etc., etc. and it's GREAT for everything. But if you just want a high quality grill to cook right over the flame and you're interested in simple grilling , then the Weber is probably the better option.

This grill has been fantastic thus far. I have had it for about 3 months and no issues at this point.

First off I must say that the packaging is very thorough so there is little chance of any damages. I do recommend that you have at least one other person to help you lift the lid out of the box and onto the cart. I found that opening up all the parts and pieces made the grill come together in a reasonable amount of time. It took me between 30-45 minutes to put this huge grill together. I highly recommend that you use power socket wrench rather than your hand. I started with just a wrench and that slowed me down so use as many power tools as you can to speed up the process.

Once the grill was set up, I decided to light it up to burn off any oils that are on the metals. Later that night I tried my luck at Infrared Cooking. I am now sold on infrared cooking. I have tried the Charbroil Red grill at my brother-in-laws house and please be fully aware that the infrared that Charbroil is preaching is not true infrared cooking. The infrared side burner on this Napoleon Mirage is true infrared cooking. I turned the side burner on and within 30 seconds it was up to temperature. I believe it is 1500 degrees or so. I put my one inch thick steak on the grids for 30 seconds on each side and then moved it over to my regular burners. I then had it on that for another 3 minutes each side. I took them off the grill and saw that I cooked myself a perfectly made Medium Rare steak! It doesn't get better than that.

Since then I have cooked Pork Tenderloin, hamburgers, hot dogs, corn, veggies, potatoes, chicken, filet mignon and beer can chicken. I am hopefully going to buy a rotisserie kit soon so I can enjoy some chicken. If you love food as much as I do then you need to try true infrared cooking. It takes some time to learn as I have left somethings on a little too long. But this is the fun part of grilling. Trying new recipes and learning how to cook better each time.

I am so happy that I decided to get this grill because the grill is so evenly heated. I have cooked for a party of 20 and everything was finished around the same time. I highly recommend this grill. With a limited lifetime warranty I am not worried about having to buy a new grill in a few years. Napoleon has made themselves an excellent grill and I look forward to many years of cooking.

First 6mo with the grill in SoCal. I bought a beautiful Classic Accessories Hickory Cart BBQ Grill Cover, Large. That fits perfectly. Mine came with the optional SS side cabinets and it makes a formative impression sitting on the patio. The assembly took some time but not hard, one screw at a time.

To be fair I bought mine at a 1/2 off price so I may be biased on performance vs. cost.

The construction is as good as a Weber Genesis. Better if you prefer the SS heat box vs cast aluminum. You have to get the Weber Summit to compare as the Mirage is all SS the Summit is painted steel and cast aluminum. Weber S-330 and Summit 470 does not have the side infrared sear section the Mirage has. The 330 has a added burner inside. Side by side you can find things you like better about both.

Likes:

The SS wave grates are better.

SS heat box

SS flavor bars.

Excellent heat.

Excellent seal, little heat escapes.

Sear burner is AWESOME!

Rotisserie is included and works excellent.

Lid is balanced and lifts with a finger.

Thermometer seams accurate.

Drip pan EZ to remove from rear. (Foil cover it to keep it clean!)

Heat..... with 3 burners it gets HOT very fast. I will lite all 3 then close the lid for about 2 minutes and then just run 1 burner. High heat is not an issue because the box is well sealed.

To run low and slow you need only 1 burner and turned way down. As one reviewer already said you can slide the SS flavorizer bars together under the meat and shield the food from direct heat while letting the drippings smoke the food. The bars are EZ positioned anywhere on the heat box.

I haven't experienced any rust to date but again I live in SoCal but I am subject to the daily marine layer. It does live outside and always under cover. I did spray the interior with Pam spray and season the heat box, rack and grill grates. It really takes the "New" off your grill but is better in the long run and my be why I don't see any rust that others are reporting.

I am super happy especially with the deal I got. Now if I paid retail I would have looked really hard at the Broil King imperial 490, Mirage then the Genesis 330 in the price range.

The grill itself is a great one! Cooks superb once I spliced the igniter cable that was sliced clean (obviously by the factory) and the LED lights don't work so that feature is null and void. Waiting to hear back from amazon on the "fix".
