I have paid more for replacement probes than the original cost of the Igrill itself. One of the most disappointing gadgets I have ever purchased! Somebody in manufacturing needs to wake the $&@&$& up!

Two uses does not seem like much work went into the design of these probes. The price is too steep for such a consumable part.

IGRILL MEAT PROBE I have been using the maverick brand probes for many yrs and have had a couple of failures with the probes but nothing like the igrill probes. When receiving igrill for fathers day as a gift one of the new probes would not work and the second probe quit on the second time using it. Contacted igrill two weeks ago and they said they would ship one probe to me. Have not seen it yet ! Nice concept, but probes are junk and too costly for replacement after a couple of useage. Now I have another electronic for the junk pile. If I had zero stars to rate I would !

If anyone has a better solution please add comments.

Thanks

I don't usually do something like this but I had my first igrill and one of the probes failed. I went to best buy, bought a new igrill took new probes out and replaced them with the bad ones within 14 day return policy. if they put out a garbage product they deserve the return hassles that evolve from companies like best buy sending the entire unit back as not working. as other probes go bad I will continue to buy new igrills and return them with the bad probes. i encourage everyone to do the same.

probe is super sensitive to open flame and hi temp common to grill. makes overall device unreliable to cook expensive meats on grill. after multiple failures, I now use old digital. great idea...pobe is technically in need of improvement quickly before bad reputation sets in. blogs are on their way.

I plan on using it fixed on my wood deck railing ....Now the Bad news.. There is a round pressure plate on the clamp screw that was welded on.. Well, it snapped off right out of the box. usually those things are made to swivel with the screw, well not this one.. so be careful wth the clamp. 2nd the post breaks down into 2 pieces, the coupling between the two is not tight and you're are given these foam pads to tighten it up. Kinda cheesy.... Why the post isn't made from a single piece of square tubing is beyond me... I like the concept especially a place for the paper towels.... I think some field mods will fix it, but its up to you if you want to spend the money for something that busts

Great idea bought 1 for SinL and myself. Just need to be a little more heavy duty on the post and clamp.

Having animals if we hang the utensils on the BBQ utensil holder, we have to watch the animals are not licking them. This gives us a Great way to hang the utensils high and also have a place for paper towels.

Honest reviews on Maverick A0-01 BBQ Accessory Organizer

This was a gift for my BBQ obsessed husband. He clamped it on to our patio table because our smoker/BBQ Pit does not have a little table. With a little piece of cardboard for extra support it worked perfectly. My husband had to bend the little rod that keeps the towels from spinning just a bit so it would be tighter. The winds have been fierce this year in Texas. It's not as flimsy as I thought it might be from reading other reviews.

I ordered this for my husband because he frequently complained that it was difficult to prep and transport our kebabs from the kitchen to the grill without the skewers sort of rolling around a lot. I was apparently having an airhead moment when I bought this because I actually did not realize that this rack is intended to go on the grill itself and hold the kebabs off the grates! Yes, you can tell who does all of the grilling in my family!!!

Ok, so on the basis of using this as I intended as a place to put your skewers in preparation for grilling, and as a way to transport them from the kitchen to the grill this works perfectly. My husband is able to carry a dozen+ skewers on this, without them rolling around or rolling off onto the floor. He lays down the initial six skewers, placing them into their notches on the racks, and then he can begin stacking additional skewers in between those, building up a "pyramid" shape by putting additional skewers in between each gap. This works great for us, and we don't have skewers trying to escape!

Now my husband unlike me understood on sight exactly how this item was supposed to be used: as a means to grill your skewers without laying them on the grates of the grill. So he did try using it in that manner with a batch of Shish Tawook chicken we were grilling on skewers. He did not feel this item was well-suited to its actual intended purpose. He noted that it's actually kind of difficult to remove it from the grill with the skewers still in their grooves... that it's awkward to transport after it has been heating up on the grill. He also was not pleased with the quality of actual grilling the meat received when suspended on this rack. He ended up taking each skewer off and placing them directly on the grates again.

This item receives four stars from me because it works perfectly as "I" intended it to be used and so I'm pleased... but seems to poorly execute it's actual, stated intention and the function it was actually designed to fulfill. In other words you'll love it if you want a rack to move skewers from the kitchen to the grill... but I'm not sure you'll be pleased with it if you actually try using it ON the grill.

The skewers are flat, but not wide enough. Some foods (like tomatoes) will still spin.

The rack is not "deep" enough. Any food chunks over an inch, will sit on the grill, not the holder.

Otherwise, it works well.

I saw this product on line and liked the manufacturer's marketing bluff, hurried to Cabela's in Indiana. The item was not on display so I figured for the price it's worth a try, got it home made my kebabs and got the grill nice and hot. I assembled the meat on the skewers and then onto the rack.

Now I am watching the meat stick to the grill, tried to turn it but the meat keeps on spinning , I tried to use tongs and forks etc. but nothing is working. Finally I had to face reality and take the skewers off the rack and put them directly on the grill.

The rack itself is flimsy and cheaply made, the rack lacks depth , it allows the meat to contact the grill at all times , the skewers are not flat enough to stop the meat from turning. cheap , cumbersome and toy like gadget.

Honest reviews on GrillPro 41338 Stainless Steel Shish Kebab Set

Purchased directly through Amazon, I never inspected this product in a retail store. The first thing that struck me when I opened the package is how thin the metal it is. Closer inspection suggests it isn't stainless at all or a VERY low grade of stainless. As someone with a materials engineering degree, the first thing I checked was to see if is non-magnetic. This metal in the GrillPro 41388 is HIGHLY magnetic, which is possible for some times of stainless steel but unlikely for a consumer product like. Moreover, I can't find the word "stainless" anywhere on the box.

My first use of the kabob rack at a birthday party was particularly cumbersome because of the lack of a locking mechanism between the two folding halves. If you are prepping large kabobs,I would never take this kabob rack loaded to the grilling area. You may drop your painstakingly created masterpieces.

My advice: avoid this product entirely no mater what your budget is and get a better rack that is one piece and has handles.

Cons

Thin, low quality metal

Folding and cumbersome

No locking mechanism between the folding halves

Pros

None

The skewers work great. The frame that holds the skewers don't do a thing. The skewers, with food loaded on there, will just freely rotation by themselves so the heavy side is towards the grill. I ended up not using the frame holder and just put the food directly on the grill and that was way easier to manage.

Just buy the skewers but not the frame.

This grill is about one 1/2 inch short from side to side but it still rests on the edge footings. It should probably be 24" wide to rest on the depth footing but it still fits.

Honest reviews on Music City Metals 92901 Steel Wire Rock Grate Replacement

I have a D3 (D39N) from 1993 and the original rock grate is 13 1/4" deep.

Unfortunately this Music City Metals replacement grate is 13 1/2" deep, and that extra 1/4"

prevents it from properly seating on the grate ledges; instead, it lays along the side of

the grill body way above the ledges, making the grate un-level.

I believed the description where it states that it will fit a D3.

Perhaps later era D3's have a slightly wider body, but all I know is that it definitely does not

fit my D3. I'm probably going to return this and buy the genuine Broilmaster part.

Good fit, made of quality steel. It was a little short, so it didn't engage one of the end supports on my Broilmaster, but that doesn't affect it's performance.

Smokenator 1000 - Transform Your 22" Weber Kettle Into Efficient Review

Smokenator 1000 - Transform Your 22' Weber Kettle Into Efficient Smoker
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

I felt kind of silly spending over $50 (including shipping) for a piece of sheet metal, but I do not regret it after using this. The Smokenator Man obviously did his home work because it maintains a consistent 230 degree temperature inside my Weber kettle--perfect for lovely smoky pulled pork goodness! The time he spent in researching the settings, and writing the instruction manual makes this a worthwhile purchase. The construction is top notch a nice sturdy piece of stainless steel that conforms perfectly to the interior of the grill.

One caveat--The instructions are written for the "modern" Weber 22 ½' grills the types with the one touch ash removal system. I have a caveman model, old school grill (circa 1997) that has the 3 round vents similar to the vent on the kettle lid. The extensive tables in the manual and a little high school geometry allowed me to find the temperature "sweet spot" for my grill.

I have also used my Smokenator with the ring that came with my Weber rotisserie (see my review for that device.) This allows for a much larger cooking chamber -perfect when smoking a lot of food for a crowd.

3 reasons to buy this:

1. Cheaper than buying a new smoker

2. Saves room on my patio--Made my Weber Kettle even more of a multi tasker.

3. Easier to tend than Brinkman barrel smoker or Weber Smoky Mountain, as the fueling and food handling are done at waist level--no bending over or crawling around on the ground.

I've owned this product for about 4 years and have cooked just about every smokeable meat countless times; every cut of pork, sausages, brisket, salmon, chicken, Thanksgiving turkeys, and so on. I've only now just gotten around to writing a review. There's so much to write. I don't even know where to begin. Oh muses of smoke and fire, I invoke you now.

Some people look at it and think, "I just paid $70 for some sheet metal? Lame." Yes, you're paying for some sheet metal, but what you're really paying for with the Smokenator is American ingenuity. This isn't an elaborate design created by a rocket scientist; this is an ordinary person's great idea to solve a common problem. Don Thompson, rest his soul, looked at a big dead-ass turkey and thought, "There's gotta be a way I can cook this thing on my Weber without drying it out." Necessity is the mother of invention. It's rare when a product does exactly what it is designed to do and offers so much versatility with such a small learning curve. Don's instructions are so detailed and thorough that they basically taught me the principles of heat control, not just for the Smokenator, but for all barbecue cooking methods.

Everything I've made on the Smokenator has turned out amazing, but it particularly excels with pork butts and poultry. My Christmas turkey in 2010 is still the stuff of legend. One thing that I really like about the Smokenator is that once you learn how to control the temperature well enough, you can basically create any range of heat you want/need--from the ulta low 'n slow 180-200 range to 350 for poultry and higher. Temps can be controlled in three ways: bottom vent, top vent, and removing/leaving the water pan. Once you've used it as much as I have, you learn which method is appropriate for your situation.

Now, with that all said, there really is one thing that could be improved about the design: the water pan is simply too small. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is a way to get around this, and I'll get to that soon, but what I really want to do is share a collection of tricks that, when combined, get you the most out of your Smokenator. Here's what I've learned after using it for 4 years:

1. Get the flip top grate. This is imperative. It will allow you to quickly and easily add fuel and wood chunks to the cavity. If you don't have one or can't afford it, use a hacksaw to saw off the bars over the cavity.

2. The water pan is primarily a heat-sink. The steam it creates is certainly nice, but first and foremost it is there to regulate temperature. To do this, it does not need to be in the cavity with the charcoal. It can simply sit on top of the grate over the hole. This allows you to get MUCH more fuel into the fuel cavity, so much that you can get close to 8-9 hours with a single load. That is astounding.

3. I knew the water pan was a pre-made thing that must come in different sizes. I tried for years to figure out what it was called so I could buy a bigger one. After searching in bread pan sections of kitchen stores for years, I finally stumbled across what I was looking for. It's called an "anti-jam steam table pan," and yes, you can buy them on Amazon:Excellante Quarter Size 4-Inch Deep 24 Gauge Anti Jam Pans. With this pan, you'll be able to increase your water capacity from 1-2 hours to 4-6. That means more uninterrupted smoking time.

4. Use hardwood briquettes. I've found Trader Joe's briquettes to be outstanding. They last twice as long as Kingsford and cost the same amount of money. That said, Kingsford briquettes are a solid product that always give you consistent and quality results. Kingsford competition briquettes are the best fuel source I've ever used, but they're hard to find and more expensive. However, if you can find them, go for it!

With this set-up, once you get your desired temps dialed in, you'll be able to leave your Weber unattended for up to 4 hours. That's enough to go play a round of golf or take the kids to the pool. The Smokenator is one of my all-time favorite purchases. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. RIP Don Thompson.

Best Deals for Smokenator 1000 - Transform Your 22" Weber Kettle Into Efficient

If you believe in reviews, this is a no-brainer, folks. This thing was a gift and as a master BBQ-er and smoker (IMHO ) I was really skeptical. A skeptic no more.

Want super-stable low smoking temperatures out of your Weber? Want to never have to worry about scorched or dry edges? Want people to tell you that, "This is the best xxxxx I've ever tasted!" ?

Then, this is your secret weapon. I've used mine so much that the stainless steel is black.

Believe me (and all the other reviewers,) you will wonder where this gizmo has been all your life.

Honest reviews on Smokenator 1000 - Transform Your 22" Weber Kettle Into Efficient

Why didn't I think of this.......I've used a Weber for many years and this has to be the best thing for someone who loves a Weber kettle to cook on! I've kept a constant temp of about 240-250 for well over 6 hours without having to touch the kettle. Why wouldn't you want one??

Don, the man who makes and sells this product knows customer service. I ordered this on a Monday evening, and I had it in Fridays' mail. Also, I had one question, which I emailed him on a Sunday night, and he answered the same night.

Now, about the product. This item is well built, and is pretty dummy proof. I did not know it, but the thermometer that I had recently installed from a major home improvement store was flaky. At times it reads 100 degrees higher than actual. Even so, following the directions and setting the vent as per the manual gave me great results. I have a bullet style water smoker already, and the smokenator is giving me better results. The results are also superior to just stacking up coals on the left and the right with a pan seperating them. For just a few bucks, you can get this with the hovergrill. The hovergrill really gives you a lot more space if you ever smoke more than a couple of items at once.

I recommend this to anyone. But it would be especially usesful if you can't afford, or have no desire to buy a dedicated smoker. Over all, I recommend this over any bullet smoker.

This isnt the first thermometer I have gotten. I have had at least 2 other ones of similar low price that I had problems with. One would not read correctly...it's hard to judge temperature but I could be absolutely certain that my chicken was not 120 degrees after several hours of cooking (it was a big chicken and I kept putting it back in, big mistake) The second one worked for a month or two and than the mechanism kept sticking... It would read some rediculously low number under 100 but if I would shake it, it would go up. Clearly if I was cooking poulty I wanted something more accurate.

I was going to buy a more expensive model but decided to try a more cost effective one, yet again. This doesn't always work sometimes you get what you pay for (or less). In this case I have had the thermometer for at least a year and have no reason to question the results. The readings seem to be within bounds of what I would expect for how long I have been cooking something. And I haven't had any problems with the mechanisms.

Instant read is a bit optimistic and it will take a few seconds, at least, to read the internal temperature. But that gives me time to glance at the little case with reccommended internal temperatures. I have seen different recommended internal temps in different places (generaly a *bit* lower) but I tend to go with the higher temps anyway so for me its a good gauge.

I have two minor issues with it... very minor but still I thought I would mention it. First I do not get the pocket clip. If I test a chicken and its below temp I wash the probe and let it air dry for the next go around. I can't see the logic of putting it back in the case and putting it in a pocket. If I am not cooking I certainly do not wear it on my pocket. So that feature baffles me a bit. I suppose if you are wearing a shirt with a front pocket and want to wear it before you check your meats, you could. But I guess I don't get that. Second, when I check something and its almost at the temp and I want to take it out and let carry over cooking do the rest...I have left the probe in...only to come back 10 minutes later to have it read lower. That makes no sense to me. Yesterday I took out a roast chicken at 175 to let carry over cooking bring it to 180. I went back in 10 minutes. I had left the probe in and covered the bird with foil. And the temp read less, significantly less. That makes no sense to me. The only thing I can think of is that this thermometer can not manitain the temp and would need to be re-inserted for each read. Although I can not understand why this would occur. It seems to me it should just continue to maintain what ever temp its reads and go up...or down... but the chicken should have been hotter not colder after 10 minutes under foil, in the roasting pan, even on top of the stove.

Even with those minor issues, and as I said they are minor, this was an excellent purchase. It was inexpensive and effective and I have had no mechanical issues with it. If you don't have one this would be a great item to buy.

I've had this thermometer for a year now. Why, I don't know, as it's all but useless.

First, the "insta-read" is anything but instant. It takes only a second or two less to reach a stable temperature than the old Taylors --if that. 6 seconds is the minimum and 10 is more likely. This is plenty of time to ruin a piece of fish. I've checked the CDN against the standard Taylor dial thermometers many, many times, with always the same results.

Second, or maybe it should be first, it's wildly inaccurate, and inconsistently inaccurate at that. I've checked it against a very accurate scientific thermometer, using a large water bath, again and again, and on a good day the CDN will register 20 to 40 degrees high or low (the low end tends to be high and the high end low, but you can't predict by how much).

You've watched food demonstrators touch the surface of the demo food with the tip for an instant? Forget it. It won't register at all unless you plunge it into the meat (there's a mark on the stem, not that it matters as it lies no matter what).

There is supposed to be an adjustment you can make, but there are no instructions for doing so and the bolt on the back won't budge--

I thought this thermometer was cool because of the temperature guide/label on the sheath.

Also the metal clip.

When I got the item, it came in a NASTY black cover with no label.

This is going to be returned.

CDN Label your ad correctly please...

Honest reviews on CDN IRT220 InstaRead NSF Expanded Range Food Thermometer

The pictured thermometer shows a nice metal clip for attaching the thermometer to a container whose contents temp you are measuring. This thermometer, in fact, comes with a sheath that has a cheap plastic clip that isn't flexible enough to attach it to anything without snapping itself off. It also doesn't have the temp conversion chart on the side as shown.

This keeps happening more often on Amazon, usually with the resellers doing the bait and switch with the photos, but this was supposedly "ships from and sold by Amazon.com" so they don't have that excuse. I hate playing the postage game so I'm just going to try and rig something up myself with wire to make this work for the time being.

Temperature reading is relatively slow, and the nut at the stem of the unit is loose and this will change the calibration. Seems I have to calibrate it with my digital thermometer before I use it.

Very nice quality, not to thin, for sure GREAT VALUE for the money. These are the same size as the Sears OEM part (04004831A0) but are 1/3 the cost. Originals had a ceramic coating and only lasted for about 3 years. I am hoping these replacements last as long or longer since they are stainless and will not allow oil/moisture to get under the ceramic and corrode quickly. Time will tell. Either way, I will be happy with 2-3 years as these parts always rust out first.

Note: if you have a Kenmore 122.16538900 or 720-0679R (same model, just different model names) you will need to drill two holes in the back of each diffuser. Not hard but you will need a drill and bitset. I will try adding pictures to this item.

sturdy, strong, clean. I had to drill holes in the back for it to fit my grill. Easy to do and worth the price.

But that wasn't a huge problem. I had to drill 2 holes in the back of each for my Kenmore grill (it has two spikes that these slide onto) so that was a pain. I don't think its a huge deal, but check your grill if you don't want to be spending time in your work shop.

Still, good quality compared to the ceramic coated ones that rusted and broke within 2 year. I really noticed the improvement in evenness.

Honest reviews on PayandPack 15 1/16" x 5 1/2" MBP 96781 (3-Pack) BBQ Barbeque

I bought these to replace the heat diffusers on my Kenmore side-by-side gas/charcoal grill. Description of this item lists it as direct OEM replacement. It is not. The shape is completely different and therefore the guide pegs on back of grill have nowhere to go. This causes the replacement part to be higher in the rear and pitch forward. I am assuming this will cause the back of the grill to be even hotter now have not used since replacing parts today. But since this product is the same as I found listed on the Sears website, I am not sure how much better I can do. Since the original pieces are rusted through I do not want to cook over them anymore, so I think I am stuck with these regardless. My grill is barely three years old and I use it 3-5 times a week, but OEM parts seem to be not around. My advice, spend the money on a Weber and know you have legitimate replacement parts if you plan on keeping your grill more than two or three seasons.

These are much cheaper than buying OEM. The original parts rusted and fell apart withing two years. I'm hoping these last a little longer. As there are no predrilled holes, I had to break out the drill and drill them myself. In all not terribly hard, but still a pain in the ass I didn't want to deal with.

I buy super lean hamburger in bulk and we make our own hamburger patties. It's lots cheaper to do it yourself rather than buy the already made patties which lots of times just aren't lean enough to me. I bought this double burger press to make the job a bit easier/faster. I also buy waxed paper patty squares to keep the patties separated while freezing.

I've had two other burger presses besides this one a tupperware and a no name brand but I like this one the best. This one is the easiest to get your patties uniform in thickness and it's the easiest to get the patties out of the press in good shape.

I just weigh out 6 or 8 ounce "bunches" of hamburger, put a couple in the press, apply the top part and VOILA! Perfectly round, same thickness patties. Remove the top part of the press and then it's pretty easy to pop out the bottom black part to get the hamburger patties out without squashing them out of shape. That was the biggest problem I had with the other patty makers I tried by the time you worked the patty out, it was no longer uniform.

To clean this press, I just separate the four pieces, rinse and stick in the top part of my dishwasher. Also, this thing is super sturdy, I can't imagine, with regular use, that it would ever wear out.

When hooking a century propane tree to a coleman stove the hose I received wouldn't let enough gas through to run both burners while using a lantern on top of the tree. I ordered the century 8ft hose and it works fine (both burners on the coleman stove and a lantern)

You need to use the Coleman bulk adapter to use this with a 20 lb bulk tank. Easy to hook up.

I purchased this hose after a little squirrel chewed though my last one. Hose is made well and will do the job. I use it with a Coleman distribution tree and my perfect flow stove.

The item delivered was very different from the picture. It was not a solid all black curved handle. It was straight with a diamond pattern in gray with air gaps in the diamonds and the rest of the handle was black. It functions well . . . but was not what I expected.

This replacement handle fit ok and all, but it's not very comfortable to grab and worse it gets hot from the grill. Not too hot to touch, but seems strange that it would not be better designed.

It was easy to install and its seems sturdy enough. My Weber grill is over 15 years old. The handle fit perfectly in place of the broken wooden handle.

I have a 27" DCS grill, and I was looking for a replacement plate to hold the ceramic rods. This was proving difficult (and potentially very costly). I was interested in this product because the images appeared right, and it correctly shows it can hold 18 rods just like my current DCS plate.

However, I was concerned by some of the poor reviews this product received. Specifically, I was worried about the reviews that said the metal had bowed over time, causing the rods to break. I also noted the reviews discussing how hard it was to secure the screws for the bar that keeps the rods in place.

Frankly, I was out of options, and I decided to gamble and see how it worked out. Here are my notes regarding installation and use so far:

1. Since my existing grill (and radiant rods) were all 8 years old, my rods were extremely fragile. Also, I noted many of my old rods were bowed. I had already broken many of the rods when trying to remove them from my old rusted heat plate. I say that because I ordered 18 new rods at the same time as ordering this replacement plate. So, I had 18 new rods (plus a pack of three new ones that had just been sitting around unused for a while); and I had 18+ old rods.

2. With the first new plate, I attempted to use 18 of my old ceramic rods. As I mentioned, many of those were bowed, and they were all very fragile. Based on the previous reviews, I was unsure how hard it would be to screw on the bar to secure the rods, but I was determined to do it. I found it want not very difficult to screw both ends of the bar, HOWEVER, since I was using all old rods, I noticed how tight a fit it was particularly for those rods on each end where the screw is located. Some of my other radiant rods were a tight fit as well.

3. I decided to test just this one plate (with my old rods) by placing the plate on the grill and turning the gas on high. I stood and watched. Literally, within the first minute or so, two of the radiant rods broke. One of the broken rods was at one of the ends; the other was roughly in the middle of the plate. I kept the flames on high for another hour or so and closed the grill lid. When I returned, I inspected the rods and was glad to see no more had broken.

4. I replaced the two rods that broke with two new ones. I had not not fully realized just how bowed some of my old rods were until this point when I was replacing and inspecting the two that had broken. The rod that broke near the middle of the plate was particularly bowed, and I realized it had been sitting very tightly in the plate with little room to move/expand. At this point, I inspected how I had placed all of the other rods. I rotated them around in whatever way I could where there would be the least amount of tension on the rods when the bar was screwed back on to secure them. Essentially, I wanted all of them to have some wiggle room in the plate, because heat causes things to expand, and I wanted them to have expansion room. So, if they were bowed, I just placed them in the plate as best I could where they would not be tight in it but loose.

5. I then installed ALL NEW rods in the second plate. I was really doing this out of necessity as I had already broken so many of my old rods that I ended up needing 20 new ones between the two plates. I noticed that these new rods seemed less fragile (though I was still very careful!), and more important, they also were not bowed! They had some wiggle room in the plate. I also realized now it was a better idea to have a new rod at each end on both the plates (where the bar screws in to secure them which results in a tighter fit). So I made those adjustments. I also realized that if I wasn't careful and deliberate, when I screwed in the the bar to secure the rods, the end rods would get very tight because of the positioning of the screw. I didn't want that, so I just held the rods out of the way some while I was screwing the bar on so the screw didn't hit the bar and keep it from moving around.

6. Finally, I put both plates on the grill, turned the heat on high, and closed the grill and left it for a couple of hours. Upon my return, I was pleased to see that no more rods had broken.

So far I am pleased with the quality and price. I'll update this review if anything changes! I am hoping that for those users who reported that the plate later bent and their rods broke, the reason was because they did not screw the bar on both ends of the plate. I think that bar is part of what stabilizes the metal, and if that is true, perhaps mine will be fine. So far, so good!

Also, my old cooking grids had rusted, and I purchased new ones at the same time. I spent a lot of time reading reviews and comparing dimensions. Music City Metals has several cooking grids listed for DCS grills, but the dimensions (of those that would work for my grill) seemed a little shorter than what I ideally wanted. Also, the reviews were just okay. In the end, I choose a cooking grid that was not listed for DCS grills because the dimensions seemed a better fit for mine and the reviews were better. The fit is good, and the metal seems heavy. I bought the one below:

If you have a DCS grill that needs the racks that hold the ceramic rods repaced, these are about the only option I have found. They are a nice heavy gauge steel and fit my grill as OEM. However, to get these grills to accept the 9.5 inch ceramic rods they were made for requires a bit of tweaking. I used a pliers and my knee and hand strength to bend the heat plates flat to accept and support the rods they are designed to hold. At almost $70, it would have been nice if this had already been accomplished but not too big a deal, at least for me. Also, it is not possible to get both screws that hold the side bar in after the ceramic rods have been put in place don't bother trying. No big deal though, I just put in one and used it like a hinge and that is fine.

Updatethe second screw is in fact necessary, as the grates warp badly when heated and need the other screw to hold everything flat and ridged. I ended up just sticking the screw in the hole without the nut, as it is not possible to fasten with the last ceramic rod in place. Sorry, removing another star because of this added annoyance.

Product needs to be produced more carefully to fit the ceramic rods without user tweaking and needs a different second fastener that can be properly utilized without removing/omitting the last ceramic rod. I would not mind tweaking if the product cost $20 or less but at $70 each it needs to be right.

DO NOT BUY THIS Product!!! I bought three of these as a cheaper replacement for my DCS grill. Two of them are fine, but one warped and the ceramic rods all broke inside of it (that was $60 in rods I also had to replace). I went to return it on Amazon and the window closed for the return (shame on you Amazon, you could learn something from Costco and Home Depot). I contacted the company and they said I had to deal with Amazon. Between Amazon and MusicCityMetals, the consumer is left without a usable product or refund.

If either of these companies want to make this right, please contact me.

Honest reviews on Music City Metals 92911 Stainless Steel Heat Plate Replacement

I'm not sure where to even start with this product. Like many of you, I was a little surprised by the price of the original DCS heat plates. I came upon this product, and while the reviews were mixed, it seemed like it could be a decent product. I needed to replace 4 heat plates, so I decided I would try 2 and see how they were.

Heat plate 1. I opened up the box and immediately checked it for flatness, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was flat. Off to a good start. Start to assemble the ceramic rods on the plate, when problem 1 rears it's ugly head. For some reason the holes punched through the center ridge to support the rod wasn't as large a diameter as the holes on the other two ridges. This meant that the support points on the center ridge sat higher than the other two ridges. At this point it would be impossible to install the side plate as the ceramic rods sat about 1/4" above the edge, and would rock. Solution was to bend that center ridge down so that the rods could sit flat. Easy enough to do, and worked okay. Now I install all the ceramic rods and go to install the side plate. Apparently the person who designed this product never bothered to actually assemble the product. The bolt holes for the side plate are lined up with the last ceramic rod. There is no easy way to install and tighten the bolts with the rods in place. Take the unit back apart, and redrill the holes for the side plate, closer to the end so that the bolts can actually be installed properly. After all this the unit goes together and seems like a decent piece of kit. I figure I have about 1/2 hour of work into fixing their mistakes, and I'm willing to still consider the kit a decent value. I have lots of metalworking experience though.

Then I opened up kit 2. First impression on this one is that the bottom is definitely not flat. I flatten it up a bit, and then discover that the side flange is bent beyond 90 degrees. Ceramic tubes won't sit flat due to how far down the flange is bent. Step one; bend that square. Solve that, then I notice that the holes punched in two of the ridges are not centered. Result, the tube doesn't sit down far enough. I'm pretty sure that it could be solved with several hours of work. I'm not wasting my time. Unit is going back.

If I could, I would give these units a -5 stars. These are a rough kit, not a finished product. They are also NOT made in the USA as one previous review stated. Clearly stamped MADE IN CHINA, and these are an example of Chinese product that doesn't have any quality control.

Final thoughts. If you have a vise and a drill press, and some basic metalworkng skills, these can possibly be made into a finished product. It appears to be a bit of the luck of the draw. If you don't want to have to deal with the headaches, save your money and buy the originals.

Followup. I received the replacement unit today, and it is exactly the same, if not a bit worse than my second unit. Going back.

product is heavy guage stainless steel. Problem is that the plate is not manufactured to be flat. The concave shape makes it difficult to insert lock down the ceramic radiants without breaking them. I had to bend the retaining edge to allow the radiants to lie flat. Replacing the radiants will be a pain as the plate assembles with a set of nuts and screws (unlike the slot and tab of the original).

I love the grill press. The chicken is easily prepared by removing back and breast bones and pressing flat. I rubbed it with seasoning the night before after flattening it. Store it in an airtight plastic bag in the refrigerator overnight. I grilled it on indirect medium heat on a Weber grill for 40 to 45 minutes. I covered this press with silver foil so there was no mess to scrape off. The only downside is that it only does one small chicken. I plan to purchase another grill press so we can serve this to company.
