THe Firemagic rotisserie basket cost almost twice as much as others. It had the advantage of being made of stainless steel which means it should last longer. I only wish the construction, especially the clamping mechanism, were a little more substantial.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

So I uploaded a couple photos of the basket and my spit... and yes, a tightly fit chicken for the first grill session. The chicken came out juicy and crisp from inside to out and was perfectly cooked... but that's not what we're here to review. The basket is sturdy, well built but could use a few adjustments.

Like others have said, and like many baskets for rotisserie, the screw mounts tend to be a little flimsy. I'm looking for some spacers or maybe to even weld a smaller mount plate to it and get a snug fit. All-in-all, it holds everything really firm. As you can see, that chicken didn't fall out and the basket didn't bend to badly. Next weekend we're trying to do wings on it and see how well the basket works with little things.

Pros:

solid gauge steel

not coated

fits any spit to up 3/4" (IF your spit is 3/4" what on earth are you roasting?)

easy handling

pinching/clamp side is easy to use

Cons:

screw mount could be a little beefier

no 'adapter plate' for smaller spits (not that I expected to see one, but it'd be nice as an optional component)

Best Deals for Fire Magic Stainless Steel Flat Rotisserie Basket 3618

The metal that holds the set screws is thin and should be braced. As the screws are tightened onto the spit rod, the metal flexes. I drilled slighty recessed holes in the spit rod for the wingnuts to catch. I also use a set of forks on the rod to help turn the basket. I love the stainless steel as it is easy to keep clean.

Honest reviews on Fire Magic Stainless Steel Flat Rotisserie Basket 3618

the opening for the Rotisserie Rod is to large and I have one of the larges Rotisserie's on the market, the basket is not long enough for a slab of ribs. and its light weight for the price.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Fire Magic Stainless Steel Flat Rotisserie Basket 3618

This basket is made very well with one excepting. The size of the hole where you put the spit through is way to big. I do not know why it is so big, because it makes it difficult to attach the basket to the regular size spit that comes with your rotisserie. To solve the problem, I use the forks that came with the rotisserie to hold the basket in place. That works great, but is a hassle to attach. I use this basket quite often when cooking chicken and other things on my BBQ. I have found that the cheap chrome baskets, the chrome wears off easly, and in a matter of a few months they start to rust. This Stainless basket has no such problem, andI use it a lot.

This review is based on a very limited use of this product, as it is new and the need for using it is not great. The stove is nicely designed and easy to set up. The gas feed tube screws onto the gas cylinder and then into the right side of the stove. Because of the design, only the squat 16.4 oz. tanks are usable, though it may be possible to obtain an adapter and hose to run the stove from refillable tanks. The proper disposable tank will not fit into the stove cabinet for travel, so fuel cylinders must be carried separately. This may be a problem for those who need maximum compactness. The throw-away cylinders may be undesireable for those who are carrying their equipment into remote regions that have no trash pickup service.

The stove lights easily with a match or other device and it meets my needs for heat output. The stove was purchased to allow flexibility during the time that our kitchen is remodeled. It was also bought as a backup cooking device, should we have an electrical outage. So far, so good. Amazon was good to its word on shipping and product description.

Just wanted a small reliable unit for occasional camping trips; it is very compact, throws out plenty of heat; Pros are good price, brand name. Cons: not being able to store the propane bottle inside the box like older camping stoves, and you need a match or lighter. Other pricier models have ignitors built in. I like this item!

Best Deals for Coleman Two-Burner Propane Stove

I purchased this stove because of the frequent power failures we have had the last two months. This stove cooks food faster than our electric stove and has paid for itself by us not having to go out to eat. It is easy to use and gives us comfort knowing it is available should we need it.

Honest reviews on Coleman Two-Burner Propane Stove

We have this, but with a larger family, it is really slow going. Doing a LOT of food on a campout with lots of kids and hungry people -you'll be cooking for a long time. Go for an item with higher BTU's that you can just crank up and get it done.... With a couple of people, okay to use, but it does take time to even just heat water. Plan for heat it up dishes that don't need cooking time.

The first "Perfectflow" stove I bought would not maintain the gas flow rate. It was either on full or off. So much for "Perfectflow". I sent it back for a replacement. On the second stove, I could not even open the lid, despite pulling very hard. Coleman either can't make a quality stove or has zero quality control. I will never purchase another Coleman product again. What a big waste of time! That's too bad, since I have a Peak 1 stove from the early 1980's that still works just fine.

I have a family of 7 with a few extra around a lot of the time. Grilling used to be a step by step process which usually meant I ate after everyone else because I was still cooking when most were eating. We like to do meat and vegetables on the grill and with this grill I can do it all at once and sit down with the family and enjoy! You can build your fire off center and spin the grate to move one item off and another item over the flame. You can also build small fires on two sides and put meat in the middle and smoke anything. Easy to control vents allow you to regulate the heat and burn time of the coals. Also it doesn't use a bag of cahrcoal at a time as you might think. You can use one Weber Chimney Starter (which I also recommend)full to cook most items. The grate is TOP quality. I used to go through a grate a year on my old Weber Kettle. This grate is beefy and I think must be finished better. No rust at all after two years. The only thing that keeps me from rating this 5 stars is dealing with ashes. You have to remove both grates (and the cooking grate is a handful)and shovel ashes out. The bottom has three vents that are not made for ash removal. At least you can cook a ton before ashes become a problem. It is expensive and a load but I would do it again in a heartbeat if a tornado came and blew it away. That is about the only thing I can think of that would keep this thing from lasting for 20 years or more.

I recently purchased the Weber Ranch Kettle after several years of using Brinkmann charcoal grills. I cook on a charcoal grill A LOT; I use my grill several times per week in the spring and summer and I cook my Thanksgiving turkey and a big Christmas meal every year on my grill (we usually have about 12-20 people over for each holiday). I've never considered a gas grill because food cooked over wood or coals tastes so much better, and I've got a gas stove in my kitchen, so what's the point of cooking with gas in my backyard?. In the past 6 years I've worn out 2 Brinkmanns, which each lasted 3 years before the heat of cooking severely warped some of the key parts of each grill. I went to my local home improvement store to replace my latest grill, and I was dismayed to observe that the new Brinkmanns seem to be made of a lower grade of steel. There's no way the new Brinkmanns would stand up to really heavy usage. So I decided to treat myself to the Ranch Kettle, which costs about five times as much as my last grill. Overall, I'm pleased with the Ranch Kettle, but it's not for everyone.

PROS:

Performance

I've prepared two meals on the Ranch Kettle, one for my family of three and one for a party we hosted for fifteen people, and it performed admirably. I've cooked 2 large tenderloins, a variety of vegetables, and a couple of steaks, and everything came out perfectly. And I mean PERFECTLY! Even the large tenderloins cooked evenly, with a slight pleasing char and beautiful grill marks. The heat is easy to control by manipulating the amount of fuel or moving the food in relation to the coals. The hinged cooking grate folds up easily in 2 places, so adding coals during cooking is simple. However, sometimes it's difficult to manipulate the hot hinged portions of the grate to return to a completely flat position. Even so, the huge cooking area makes it possible to cook several items at once. From that perspective it's by far the best grill I've ever used. I'm looking forward to using the Ranch Kettle for slow-cooking ribs or brisket; I'm confident that this grill will do a good job with these difficult dishes.

Construction

I've only has the grill for a short time, but it seems very solid. Assembly took about an hour, with clear instructions provided. During cooking, the system for holding the heavy lid on the side of the grill is very sturdy (though you have to use 2 hands with thick oven mitts to protect yourself from the heat). I keep my grill on a brick patio, and the four plastic wheels (two large, two small; the small wheels lock) rotate freely over the uneven surface, making it easy to move the grill even while it's in use. I am a little concerned about the lower grate, which supports the coals under the cooking grate. The lower grate has already warped slightly under the intense heat necessary for preparing a large meal. I suppose I'll be able to replace the charcoal grate, but it's a little soon to see it warp like that.

CONS:

No shelf

I'm used to having shelves on the side of my grill. These come in handy for tools and keeping sauces and other items nearby. The Ranch Kettle is huge, but I have to use a separate table to keep these things close at hand. The grill has several hooks for keeping tools, but I'd prefer a shelf on the side, especially one that folds down when not in use.

Cleaning

The Ranch Kettle is a bitch to clean. The removable cooking grates from my old Brinkmann would fit in the dishwasher, or in my kitchen sink for soaking. The large round cooking grate on the Ranch Kettle has to be cleaned without these conveniences. I use a sturdy wire brush with a metal scraper on the tip, which is effective at removing chunky food residue, but it isn't sufficient to get all the grease and residue off the grate and get it truly clean. I may invest in a Grill Daddy, but the grill has to be heated for that to work properly, which is a lot more convenient for a gas grill than for one which uses wood or coals for fuel. I may buy a big tub to soak the grate, but that's another hassle. I won't use any of the commercially available chemical grill cleaning solvents because it would be difficult to wash off the chemical residue, since I can't fit the grate in the sink or dishwasher.

Also, the large amount of charcoal necessary for the Ranch Kettle produces a prodigious amount of ash. I'm accustomed to dumping grill ash in an unused corner of my yard, but the Ranch Kettle makes so much ash I'm going to need a large ash can to dispose of it. The ash has to be scooped out of the lower portion of the kettle; the large ash catcher beneath the kettle is effective at keeping hot ash from blowing around, but most of the ash remains in the lower portion of the kettle.

Vertical clearance

As I indicated earlier, I grill my Thanksgiving turkey over coals and wood each year. However, I'm concerned that, for all it's size, the Ranch Kettle's lid doesn't seem to provide enough vertical clearance for a good-sized bird to fit underneath. I measured about 10 inches from the top of the middle of the lid down to the cooking surface; that's probably not going to be enough. The Ranch Kettle is unsurpassed for cooking most foods, but cooking something tall like a turkey may pose a problem.

Cost

As I indicated, this thing costs as much a five Brinkmanns. It also uses a huge amount of fuel. During our recent party, I tore through 1 1/2 large bags of regular charcoal, plus a full bag of mesquite wood chunks. Furthermore, I need to buy an ash can and some unique cleaning implements to service this large grill. And now that I've spent more than $1000 on this thing, I need a big waterproof cover to protect my investment. I suppose no grill comes with it's own cover, but the Ranch Kettle is a costly specialty item and I naively hoped Weber would provide one. I've ordered a round outdoor table cover, which I hope is sufficient to protect the grill from the elements. So there's a lot of stuff to buy even after you've plunked down a grand and change for the Ranch Kettle.

Despite these shortcomings, the Ranch Kettle is a pleasure to use and produces spectacular results no other grill can match. It's pricey, but it performs. Just know what you're getting into before you buy.

UPDATE 9/19/2010:

I've been using the Ranch Kettle all summer and it has lived up to it's excellent early performance. Yesterday, I cooked TWO 14-pound turkeys in about 2 hours. The results were spectacular. The 2 birds fit, albeit snugly, under the lid without touching it. I've spent the summer cooking all kinds of food and I've yet to make a bad meal on the Ranch Kettle. I've slow-cooked both beef and pork ribs using indirect heat, and I've grilled enough steaks on it to feed a platoon. The early warping of the coal grate I experienced has not worsened, though I periodically flip the grate to prevent any further damage. The outdoor table cover I purchased separately has been sufficient to protect the grill from the elements, though I plan to store it indoors over the winter. I've managed to keep the cooking grate clean with a heavy-duty scouring pad and hot water, in addition to the standard wire grill brush, after each use. Yes, this is a chore, but I haven't found a decent alternative. Just be sure to dry the grate with an old towel after cleaning to avoid rust. The only new complaint I have is that one of the small plastic wheels recently fell apart. I was able to snap it back together, but they are too flimsy for such a big (and expensive) grill.

Best Deals for Weber 60020 The Ranch Charcoal Kettle Grill

If you like the 22" or 26" Webers you will love the Ranch Kettle. Cooks just like its smaller kin but with the "Grande Meals" in mind. Plenty of room on the grill to move things around from direct to indirect heat. Weber says you can put 27 game hens at once on it. Heck with the little birds, to give you an idea of the cooking surface I filled the grill with 20 chicken halves. A great investment!

Honest reviews on Weber 60020 The Ranch Charcoal Kettle Grill

I have had this product for over 2 years now and I love it. I have read other response about how difficult it is to clean. You are talking about a massive grill that sits in your yard get some degreaser and blast it with your hose. cleans up great. I have no problems with this grill. It is a must have for the true BBQue enthusiast. I use my for BBQ comp, I am able to have a fire on one side and cook passively. I took the charcoal grate out because of how close it keeps the coals, if you remove that one and put in a 22" grate for a standard weber and put it in the bottom it will keep your coals at a better distance and it is big enough so the 3 vents on the bottom can still breath. Love the lid design and the holder system that is made for it. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Weber 60020 The Ranch Charcoal Kettle Grill

It was packaged in such a way to almost guarantee the dent in the lid caused by a charcoal vent. There's no one-touch cleaning, making the three vents inadequate for cleaning. There's no place for a thermometer (like the performer series). Grill has no handles. I would expect a little more in the way of features at that price! Its pretty darned expensive for what it is.

If you're buying a weber charcoal chimney, the large one does NOT hold the correct amount of charcoal, you need two small ones (which is even better for indirect heating). At least that's the case if you follow their guidelines for briquette counting.

Shipping was through a freight company (that I had never heard of), and delivery is NOT guaranteed by the date Amazon gave me unless you happen to be home when they call to set up an appointment. I called them by 10 AM and it was too late to set up an appointment for that day.

But, other than the above, the grill is HUGE, nothing like it for a large gathering!

PayandPack 15 1/16' x 5 1/2' MBP 96781 BBQ Barbeque Barbecue Replacement Gas Grill Stainless Steel Heat Plate Shield Tent Diffuser Deflector for Kenmore Sears, Nexgrill, Sunbeam Grillmaster, Lowes Model Grills

Very nice quality, not to thin, for sure GREAT VALUE for the money. These are the same size as the Sears OEM part (04004831A0) but are 1/3 the cost. Originals had a ceramic coating and only lasted for about 3 years. I am hoping these replacements last as long or longer since they are stainless and will not allow oil/moisture to get under the ceramic and corrode quickly. Time will tell. Either way, I will be happy with 2-3 years as these parts always rust out first.

Note: if you have a Kenmore 122.16538900 or 720-0679R (same model, just different model names) you will need to drill two holes in the back of each diffuser. Not hard but you will need a drill and bitset. I will try adding pictures to this item.

sturdy, strong, clean. I had to drill holes in the back for it to fit my grill. Easy to do and worth the price.

Best Deals for PayandPack 15 1/16" x 5 1/2" MBP 96781 (3-Pack) BBQ Barbeque

But that wasn't a huge problem. I had to drill 2 holes in the back of each for my Kenmore grill (it has two spikes that these slide onto) so that was a pain. I don't think its a huge deal, but check your grill if you don't want to be spending time in your work shop.

Still, good quality compared to the ceramic coated ones that rusted and broke within 2 year. I really noticed the improvement in evenness.

Honest reviews on PayandPack 15 1/16" x 5 1/2" MBP 96781 (3-Pack) BBQ Barbeque

I bought these to replace the heat diffusers on my Kenmore side-by-side gas/charcoal grill. Description of this item lists it as direct OEM replacement. It is not. The shape is completely different and therefore the guide pegs on back of grill have nowhere to go. This causes the replacement part to be higher in the rear and pitch forward. I am assuming this will cause the back of the grill to be even hotter now have not used since replacing parts today. But since this product is the same as I found listed on the Sears website, I am not sure how much better I can do. Since the original pieces are rusted through I do not want to cook over them anymore, so I think I am stuck with these regardless. My grill is barely three years old and I use it 3-5 times a week, but OEM parts seem to be not around. My advice, spend the money on a Weber and know you have legitimate replacement parts if you plan on keeping your grill more than two or three seasons.

These are much cheaper than buying OEM. The original parts rusted and fell apart withing two years. I'm hoping these last a little longer. As there are no predrilled holes, I had to break out the drill and drill them myself. In all not terribly hard, but still a pain in the ass I didn't want to deal with.

Alpha is Chinese made household gas burner. In China, people used this burner for mainly everyday cooking. It does not comply with US standard. Specially, the gas hose and its connector does NOT fit our standard US gas regulator and LP tank. No way you can use it with your LP tank unless you break your own safety. Don't be fooled and mislead by the pictures. The gas hose included with the burner is USELESS. HABOR FREIGHT store and online is selling gas burners for about $40 meet our standard and regulator.

No problems with the seller. Product was shipped as promised. The stove is an unknown brand. I am uploading the actual image. I couldn't use the hose provided to connect to my propane tank that I use for my gas grill. I ended up using another set of connections. The stove is very delicate. It easily get bent. The whole built was poor. May be better off buying some other stove.

The product came out of the box broken with missing parts. This was unfortunate. However, the seller responded promptly to the problems without any assle.

Honest reviews on Portable Propane Gas Stove 2 Double Burner Range BBQ and New

The stove works pretty good. The starter often has to be clicked several times to get the flame going. It has a good strong flame but weak frame. The packing wasn't good enough to avoid it being dented in one rear corner, which I more or less pounded-out. If the stainless steel siding were any thinner you'd have to call it a "foil", as in tin foil, or in this case stainless steel foil. It heats up the counter-top so much that the made the formica bubble up off the wood base. But over-all, it works and didn't cost an arm & a leg. Looks pretty good too. Oh, I had to take out ALL of the screws and put in larger ones that could be tightened-down. All the little ones that came with the stove would strip-out if you tried to get any tightness at all on them.

I bought the Esbit BBQ Box primarily for canoe camping trips with my fiancee. While we haven't taken it out in the canoe yet, I have had the opportunity to cook five meals with it.

I love this grill.

Set up is simple, there's enough space to cook a meal for two (a little creativity helps in arranging everything to fit), cleaning is super easy and it's smaller and lighter than my Cobb Grill.

The packaging is efficient (although my folding legs got a tiny bit bent in shipping: not enough to even worry about straightening), and the added touches of a charcoal bag and spare thumb screw are nice.

I might update this review when I've had a chance to try it with firewood as opposed to charcoal I really like this idea as we can save on the amount of charcoal we pack in.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I have both this larger size and the smaller size which you can see on Esbit's website. Apparently, Esbit has chosen NOT to import the smaller version to the US, so I found one on eBay. The price for the smaller one is virtually the same that I paid for the larger one (which is why the importer told me over the phone that they didn't think it would sell too well in the US), but I'm a gadget guy, so I'm still satisfied. And the smaller one is really small, about 9"x6", barely enough for two burgers, but very portable. It's not a backpacker or minimalist unit though, due to weight. But the stainless steel construction is robust and the grill should last a long time if cared for.

The unit is very cleverly designed, a virtual scaled up copy of the classic Esbit tablet stoves (water boilers, really) that are popular among campers. And the idea translates pretty well ... I've cooked mostly hot dogs and hamburgers on it, and it gets the job done with a small amount of charcoal. One problem though, is that when cooking anything with significant fat content, the fat will drip down into the firebox on to the coals, and this makes the grill smoke like mad. I haven't had any flareups because of this, but the unit bears watching while in use just like any other charcoal grill. If anyone knows how to mitigate the smoke, leave a comment please. Of course, grilling lower fat items is one solution, and this heavy smoking did not occur with good quality hot dogs. But with burgers, you'll be visible for miles!

Cleanup is generally easy; you can help yourself by simply lining the firebox with a layer of aluminum foil before adding and lighting the coals. On the smaller unit, flipping the burgers generally resulted in some fat or juice hitting the sides and running down the outside of the firebox (inside the "wings"). This made cleanup a bit more difficult, and you may have the same problem on the larger unit offered here if you crowd the grill. Tongs are better than a spatula in this case, but cleanup is still not too problematic. The upper part screws on to the lower 'platform' for stability (this prevents the 'wings' from collapsing inward while in use). It is possible to move the unit while lit, but insulated gloves are necessary even when grasping the lower platform and the exercise still has some potential danger so I don't recommend it. If you trip or drop the grill, the coals will likely go all over, never a good thing at the campsite and even worse on your deck.

Some nice touches ... it includes a durable carrying bag and also includes a lined nylon bag that holds enough charcoal for one use. This smaller charcoal bag will fit inside the grill when it is folded, making a nice, self-contained package to bring to a picnic. It also includes some heavy plastic to enclose some individual parts and protect the unit from getting all scratched up while stored or transported. Esbit also gives you an extra thumbscrew (these are used to secure the unit to the platform base). And there is an included "tool" (really a heavy U-shaped and bent wire) that allows you to move the grilling surface higher or lower depending on how close to the coals you want the food.

Lastly, the unit suffers a bit in any significant wind. Better that you can find a sheltered place behind some type of windbreak while using it under these conditions. Nonetheless, since it cooks primarily due to direct heat, it still seems to work, albeit slower.

Overall, a well thought out, durable, portable grill that I would recommend and purchase again.

Best Deals for Esbit Portable Folding Charcoal BBQ Grill with Carrying Bag

I own the tiny Esbit pocket stove and like it for camping and emergency scenarios. This grill is essentially the same concept, but obviously much bigger. I like that concept, but the grill should be made of thicker metal sheets. Yeah, I get that doing so would add to the weight, but at least it won't always feel like it will cut my fingers. Also, be careful when opening/closing the grill.

This is probably the most portable grill that I have come across. It won't be my main grill, and I doubt it was designed to be anyone's main grill.

Can you give something zero stars? It took way to long to put together. The wheels are cheap and wobbly. It doesn't feel stable at all when you raise it up, feels like it will collapse at any moment. When you take the side shelves out, what do you do with them? It can't be lowered with the 1 lb gas cylinder attached. the front lid latch is a joke, made of thin wire. TRU Infrared, I was expecting the same technology as the full size grill, nope, just a pan between the cooking surface and burner, this seems to stop the heat of the burner from getting to cooking surface, this lovely pan then catches all your cooking grease, which then starts to burn and give off the most putrid smoke. The grill cooks very unevenly, big hotspot right in the middle, just big enough for two burgers, No way you can get a good quick sear on anything. I was sold on the coolers, but they suck, they don't keep ice, and once you fill them the wobbly wheels can't take the weight. the back handle pulls up like a piece of luggage, but the frame pieces that hold the handle; the stick out in a way that if you hit any uneven surface, they catch the ground and dig in. Great concept, really bad execution, Really needs to be re-engineered.

Bad Quality Item...Hard to control Handles Up & Down!

Poor Quality Control on item from Factory. Several things where not together properly or broken when product arrived.

It all went downhill from there after spending a couple hours putting it together. Then finding things do not work also.!!!!

First off I want to say that Amazon was apparently listening to all the reviews regarding shipping damage on Broil King Grills. My grill arrived by shipping company on a pallet and there was barely a scuff on the box. No shipping damage whatsoever. Good going Amazon.

As for complaints about building difficulty, this grill is no more difficult to put together than other similar items. You will benefit by looking at all the directions first before beginning. That said, there are some tight spots with the screwdriver but overall it went together smoothly in about 2 hours (30 minutes of which was my fault for not looking closely enough at the instructions). Once together it is a solidly built grill and far studier than the most of the offerings at the big box stores. Build quality seems on par with the Weber Genesis and Summit but maybe not quite that heavy of a lid. This is probably because the Broil King is cast aluminum.

All burners light immediately and each burner has its own ignition so they can be lit independently of each other. The cast iron grates are heavy and seem solidly made. First grilling was steaks and they came out great. The grill gets HOT for a good sear on the steaks which is exactly what I was looking for. It gets hotter than any other grill I've used so this will take some getting used to but its great. Shrimp kabobs grilled nicely the next night at lower temperature. The control of the flame on each burner is great so far too. The included rotisserie burner and kit is a nice addition. Looking forward to firing that up soon. All in all I am very happy with this and look forward to a long time with it. Hard to go wrong at this price for what you get (the Weber Summit with rotisserie is in the neighborhood of $1200) This grill is built well, sears steaks like a champ and looks good doing it.

Do note however, that the cover paired with this on Amazon is too small. Get the large instead.

I learned a lesson about spending this kind of money on a sight unseen. I made my decision based upon the available literature and professional ratings. For the price I paid, the fire box and everything in it is easily on par with the finest Webers. However, the sheet metal pieces that are used to construct the base are flimsy and thin much like the structures you built using Erector Set toys as a kid. The base wobbles when the wheels are locked, and it flexes a bit more than it probably should on uneven surfaces, so the doors tend to get misaligned, leading to difficulty in mounting them to the frame upon installation or opening and closing them once assembled. So be sure to assemble and operate this grill on a perfectly level surface. I experienced some of the same issues with attaching the side burner and shelf to the firebox that others had. The holes line up inconsistently and required another person to apply pressure to the shelves as I screwed them to the firebox.

Overall, this is one of the best grills out there. It ignites, heats and cooks better than anything I have owned so far. The downside is what you don't get for the money spent, in terms of its overall construction and fit and finish. At this price point, I would expect halogen lamps in the firebox and a propane cylinder trolley that makes replacing the cylinder less hectic often found on less expensive grills. I would expect higher grade sheet metal for use in the base to eliminate its wobble. It should look and feel like a brick outhouse in my opinion. Finally, I would also expect higher grade burner knobs, more on par with the Webers.

Broil King included a universal rotisserie kit and a lifetime warranty on the burners. That makes up for some of the features this grill lacks in this price range. Plus, it is Made in the USA.

It seems that Broil King focused and excelled at everything "under the hood" in designing this grill, but fell a little short on convenience features. I feel like I bought a Ferrari that has no stereo or power windows. My rating is 5 Stars for everying in the firebox, shelves, and side burner, 3 stars for the base, fit/finish and features. Overall, I give it 4 Stars.

I had a Webber Genesis for 10+ years. Great grill, but it did have a few little design flaws. When the time came for a new grill, I was just going to buy another Webber. But then I started researching and shopping (webber, napolean, broil king, etc.). Boy am I happy with this Broil King! It has to be the best made grill in the world. The grilling/heat control is unrivalled. The overall construction of the grill and materials used are excellent. Now it did take me quite a while to put the grill together. Take your time. Materials used are all excellent. Most important for me; the engineering behind the valves, dual burner tubes, the mid layer flavorizer plates, and the cooking surface are excellent. I have used the rotisserie; it is ridiculously easy, and impressed the heck out of my hard core grilling buddies, all of whom have Webbers. I grill 3-4 nights per week, and I know my fire. I am 100% thrilled with this Regal 490 Pro!

UPDATE: It has been about 15 months since I put this Broil King into action, and I am still so impressed! As mentioned, I grill a LOT. Except for the fact that the inside is filthy, the exterior still looks brand new. No signs of rust, pitting, fading, etc. The ignitor stopped working, but other than that, every part of the grill still operates and feels brand new. It is so well engineered and thought out. One of my buds bought a new Genesis a couple weeks before I got the King, and his cheaper parts are already falling off. Of particular note, the included rotisserie works great, and is so easy to use. I have found that the cook book underestimates cook times, so leave yourself an extra hour or so for larger cuts. There are few things better than a large pork shoulder that has been spinning on my rotisserie for about 4 hours. So after 4 seasons of use, still an awesome grill. I could not be happier!

Honest reviews on Broil King 976584 Regal 490 PRO Liquid Propane Gas Grill with Side

I was a Weber owner for 15 years but I always wanted a grill with real searing power, which Webers aren't really designed for. (they have a tendency to bake the meat, not sear it) I'm talking about getting to 800 degrees and being able to really flame broil a steak the way a good steakhouse would.

I researched this a bit and I think it boils down to this -to get a real searing grill you can spend thousands of dollars or you can buy a Broil King. The Broil Kings are not beautifully styled and the build quality is not great, but your first steak on this kind of a grill is a revelation. The grill will get fully hot in about 5-8 minutes -and I mean 850 degrees hot.

The strength of the Broil King design is the venturi tube burners -which give good even (powerful!) flame and the flame broiling system. As the fat drips off your meat, flames will jump and sear that meat, but you never get an out of control inferno. Your meat cooks super fast but as long as you pay attention you can get exactly the degree of crust/browning/blackening that you want.

Our Weber gas grills were convenient, durable and well designed -but could never give results anything like a good hot charcoal fire. The Broil King can.

Pros: Tremendous power, great performance. Especially compared with newer model webers, which have very limiting flow restrictor that limit their power for searing.

Cons: I think this grill is expensive given the mediocre build quality and bland styling. Everything is cheap sheet metal, though the burner controls are nice. Grill grate is cast iron but not the heaviest gauge; ours has warped slightly. Also, the piezo starter button stopped working after a few weeks. My son fixed it by dislodging it from the body of the grill. It hangs down by the wires but it works now when we squeeze it with a sideways angle and it works. But I happily put up with the cons because I am tasting grilled meat that is the equal of the very best steakhouses.

Amazon did a great job shipping this grill. My beef (pun intended) is with the grill company. This grill gets to over 600 degrees when heating up with cover closed in about 15 minutes for searing steaks, which I like to do, and it cooks OK after that. Haven't used the rotisserie yet, but there's a couple of things that should be mentioned to be aware of. It wasn't covered in the rain the other night and the built-in thermometer in the lid developed moisture inside the glass, maybe the moisture will dry out eventually, and if it's kept covered in the future water won't get in againwe'll see. But the assembly of this grill really pissed me offand it didn't have to be that way if the company really cared. The assembly instructions were just pictoral images which is fine but there was one step that called for 6 screws and the illustration only showed where 4 of them wentmaking you wonder where the other 2 go. I inadvertently found out where they go on my own upon re-assembling the unit because of the more serious fault I will now describe. The holes don't line up well enough to get an acceptable fit when putting the three sides of the cabinet together and attaching the top grill section. I had to ask a friend to help hold and push the pieces together with me so the holes would line up to get the screws in. It took like ten minutes of pushing really hard to finaly get it, it wasn't easy! And the problem after that, the reason why I de-assembled and re-assembled still persisted, which is the left door was crookedthe space between the two doors was not equal. Because the left door was angled counter clockwise the space between the two doors at the top was greater than the space at the bottom. Looks like s--t. Also the tolerance was so tight when putting the two doors on, the stainless steel bottom frame was badly gouged by the bottom door pins. The instructions tell you to insert the upper door pins first into the top part of the frame and then insert the bottom ones, but it can't be done without gouging the hell out of both sides of the bottom frame. I am very capable of following instructions and assembling any grill and no one should have to go through this after spending $800. So yes, I'm annoyed.

I bought this for my stepfather last year for Father's Day and he probably used it more than the number of times he brushes his teeth. It's like a motorized toothbrush but for your grill!

Would definitely buy again.

This was a gift to my son, whose last name is "Buck"! So a little pun on words and symbolism there. He said he would use it for grilling. This way he can never loose it.
