I bought this to replace the original burner in my PGS K40. It fits and functions as it should. However, the quality of the materials is not quite as good as the OEM parts. Not sure it will last as long as the OEM part did, but it is working great right now.

I bought these for my husband who barbeque's a lot. He's always complained about getting burned and that normal oven mitts just don't do the job.

He barbequed a "Bud bird" chicken and was very happy with the heat resistance of these glove. Then he lifted the pan off the grill and carried it into the house. About three feet away from the grill, the heat from the pan started to burn through the gloves.

So for a short time span, the gloves are great at resisting the heat, but the heat resistance for a longer period of time is not so great.

We didn't expect him to be able to hold super hot things indefinitely, but we were hoping that he could at least carry a hot pan 20 feet to get into the house.

The gloves are great at keeping the heat off his hands and forearms while grilling though.

These are excellent gloves for both the grill and fireplace. They are long (18"), so they cover the entire forearm, and they are heavy duty (thick leather). Also, they are gloves, not mitts, and that makes a huge difference. Mittens give you no ability to grip or pick up items; gloves give you all the flexibility of, well, gloves!

My husband has used these everyday for both grilling duties and stocking his fireplace.

He is super picky about quality, and these meet his exacting standards.

The two 1-star reviews here are not based on this product, but rather on the manufacturer and the shipper. I hope those customers followed up, got their products, and then review the actual gloves.

Best Deals for Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Extra Long Suede Gloves (Pair)

My husband used it. He said they are not for direct contact to any hot iron trays from the grills. They are to protect your hands and lower arms during grilling.

Honest reviews on Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Extra Long Suede Gloves (Pair)

These are essentially fancy leather welding gloves. Welding gloves have to protect you from being burned by spatters of molten metal, that cool almost immediately upon landing on a surface at room temperature. Cooking mitts, on the other hand, need to be able to hold a 400 degree object for many seconds without transmitting the heat. They also need to insulate even if they're wet.

I found that this glove, despite being well made and attractive, is no good for holding hot items. At best, it protects hand and arm while grilling, if you're using tongs, lets say, over a very hot fire. Just don't expect to be able to hold a hot pan for more than a couple of seconds before the heat is conveyed directly to your tender skin and you have to put it down immediately or drop it.

I already owned a pair of these gloves purchased about 3 years ago. They were starting to get warn so I decided to replace them. I ordered them and was surprised when they arrived that I couldn't get my hand into them. The old pair fit fine. I measured them and they were 3/8 inch smaller. I contacted the company and they sent me a pre-paid mailer to return them. The gloves they returned to me were a tiny bit larger (maybe 1/16 inch) and I could get them on my hand with a bit of force. I will keep trying to use them and hope they will stretch a bit.

The company was great about trying to solve my problem but there was nothing they could do since the design of the glove had changed. They said they were going to pursue this further with the company that makes the glove. I hope they do because they are great gloves.

So, if your hands are on the small to normal size, these are great gloves.

Why buy a new Grill, when you can replace worn out parts. I was able to replace my main burner and heat plates for a fraction of the cost of buying a new grill. I really like the super sized Charmglow grill, however after four years the burner and heat plates rusted out. I was searching for replacement parts and found them on Amazon. The parts were reasonably priced, and better quality then the original units. Great deal, and I did not need to buy a new grill... Thanks Amazon!

My grill grates rusted out the following year after I bought it. I'm going back to weber. It lasted me over 10 years. This grill will only last you 2 seasons.

I bought this for a Christmas gift for my father-in-law, who is a huge Auburn fan as well as a 'griller'. It arrived in horrible condition with dents in the wood, big gashes , not small marks. Additionally the overall quality was extremely poor, the logo on tools is a sticker.Would have returned if it wasn't delivered directly to him and was too late to send a different gift.

Cheap Grillmark Remote Probe Grill Thermometer

Grillmark Remote Probe Grill Thermometer
Customer Ratings: 3 stars

This unit (I have 2) works great.

Long battery life and good transmit distances.

My only wish was that it had dual probes and/or 2 units could

read separately.

Currently I plug in both senders and read them both (multiplexed)

on the receiver. This is a byproduct of how they send and

not (I think) a design feature.

The only problem with this is that you can't set 2 alarm temperatures.

So if you are measuring grill temp and meat temp you can't set

2 different alarm temps.

This unit works much better and is more flexible (with the previously mentioned desire)

than the other units I have tried....Maverick, Webber.....

We have owned this thermometer for four or five years and have found it to be very reliable. The only thing I wish it had was another "Custom" setting that you could enter the perameters for. For instance, say you want something to be done at 125 degrees. You could set it up to show you that. Yes, you can pick a certain meat temp. that closely matches your temp. and that works too. I think this is a great piece of equipment and I wouldn't be without it, especially when grilling/smoking a large turkey in the cold New England weather!

Best Deals for Grillmark Remote Probe Grill Thermometer

Bought 2 of these through Holland Grille. Works great about 2 times. Then the probe burns out. I sent emails to Holland but no reply

Honest reviews on Grillmark Remote Probe Grill Thermometer

If there was a zero star rating, that is what I would have selected.... Do NOT waste your money on this product. I purchased it and it worked once out of the box second time (week later) it wouldn't sync. Zero degrees. Had to go back to old manual probe. This product was a waste of time and money. ACE coming back this weekend to return it for my money back!

Two models just went to HH. This unit is totally useless. The ACE help doesn't know what this means and just says return it. There probably is a manufacturing problem with a batch if other people are having the sane problem

Cheap 7506 Replacement Straight Stainless Steel Tube Set Burner for MCM

Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

Bought this product because it was $15 cheaper that genuine Weber. I got exactly what I paid for. The burners were not the correct length to replace the Webers. I ended up having to put a 1/2" bend into the crossfire tube to get the ends of the three burners to align to reconnect the gas valves. Also, the end tab on the crossfire tube was not notched to accept the little metal plate on the crossfire tube, necessitating me to cut the appropriate slot with a Dremel. This is the notch in the far end of the center burner that allows the crossfire tube to pass through. It's needed to maintain the orientation of the crossfire tube and center burner it has to be there to allow the assembly to go together. By the way, zero instructions were included. But, after a lot of tinkering and adjustment, they're in and working. Just a lot more hassle than necessary. If I has to do it again, I'd buy the Weber OEM replacement.

I have a 2001 Weber Genesis Silver B, and last year it started being reluctant to heat quickly and all the way to 600. Last week the grill never got hotter than about 400, so I knew something was wrong. I took the grill apart and looked at the flame, and it was fairly yellow. Also, the bar that connects the three main burners wasn't working to transfer the flame from one bar to another.

I bought this set from Amazon and installed it today. You have to take the grill apart, including taking the control panel off, the manifold off, disconnect the gas, take the flavor bars and grates out, etc. After I had everything uninstalled I elected to drag mine out in the yard and pressure wash it. After it dried I installed the new burners, new flavor bars, new grates, etc. I went all stainless this time. The flame coming out of the new burners is blue, and is very hot. I also put a new starter in, and the grill starts so nice and easy and the bar that connects the three burners transfered the flame from one burner to another. It reminded me of when I first bought it. The grill heated up to 500 in about 5 minutes...a night and day difference from before.

You might think I'm crazy for investing $160 in grill parts, after all some grills only cost $160 for the entire grill. I know that my Silver B is good for another 5 years at least, and I LOVE this grill. Who knows when they'll stop making parts for these grills?

Anyway, my advice to you is if you have a Weber gas grill that is more than 6 years old and you haven't replaced the burners yet, and you are experiencing any of the symptoms I described, don't hesitate to put in new burners. It's relatively easy, and it makes a huge difference.

I was very impressed how easy it was to install the new burners in my Weber Grill. I've had the grill for probably 10 years and decided to replace the burners, flavor bars and grates. All were reasonably priced on Amazon with fast shipping even using the free Super Saver Shipping. Getting the burners out would have been easier if I would have waited to get the new ones first before trying to figure out how to remove them myself. I made the removal much harder than it should have been and the instructions were great. With the replacement of the grates, flavor bars and burners it is like I have a new grill for about $100 total.

Best Deals for Weber 7508 Stainless Steel 3 Burner Tube Set

Great! Burners were easy to install Just follow the included directions. All you need is a Phillips Screwdriver. I also purchased a new push button ignitor at a later time. If you get the igniter with the burner set you will only have to remove the side control knob plate once.

Honest reviews on Weber 7508 Stainless Steel 3 Burner Tube Set

I will manage to get another season or three out of my Weber by installing this Burner Tube set installation was a little difficult, but once done the grill works great! Be aware that these burner tubes are bolted down in the grill the bolt is typically very corroded and likely impossible to remove. Grinding or cutting it off helps remove the old tubes, then just lay the new tubes on the support. Once the cross-tube is installed and the three burner tubes attached to the fuel supply, they are sturdy enough not to need the corner bolts.

Quickie install instructions:

think safety! Safety glasses, turn off gas, don't run with scissors!

remove grills, burner guards

remove bits and pieces of corroded tubes

Unbolt (or grind/cut off) corners (left front and rear)

pull tubes away from fuel valves, twist to get through opening (this can be a little difficult)

take a moment to brush out burned crud in bottom of grill

insert center tube, push firmly onto fuel supply tube (under knobs); orient with perforations up

insert cross tube, perforations toward center of grill (right)

insert front or rear tube, fit onto fuel tube then cross tube;perforations toward center push firmly onto fuel tube

put bolts back in place if removed, otherwise burner tubes should sit squarely on corners

replace guards/grills

fire that baby up!!

I bought this product a little over a year ago to replace the original burners for my Gensis Silver B. The problem is the fuel rail connecting the burners has already corroded to the point where it can no longer carry the flame to the 2nd and 3rd burners. Not sure what it's made of but it's not the same quality as burners themselves. I'll be contacting Weber to complain.

The grill was very easy to assemble. It took less than an hour and it was ready to go. It's very easy to use. You just put charcoal in the baskets, push the button on the gas ignitor, let the coals get cooking for about 5 minutes or so, turn off the gas and let the coals get up to temp. Then add your meat and cook. The work surface is plenty big enough to place platters, etc. I can't find a single negative about this grill.

UPDATE 4/1/13

I have used the grill upwards of a dozen times and it is still functioning flawlessly. One thing I really like is that when I am done cooking, I just close the top and bottom vents and the charcoal extinguishes. This allows me to reuse some of the charcoal the next time I grill.

Here is what I have found as far as time it takes to get from ignition to cooking. I turn on the flames and let them go for about 5 minutes to get the charcoal started. I then let cover the grill and let the charcoal sit for about 20-25 minutes to get up to temperature (around 300-350 degrees if using one basket) At that point, it's time to start cooking.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I've had this grill for a few weeks now and have used it ten times. I love it. But there are a few things that might be helpful to know:

1. I'm a grill newbie and debated for a LONG time about whether to get gas or charcoal. I wanted something hassle free so that I would use it frequently (I'm lazy) and all my friends said I needed a gas grill. But I couldn't resist the charcoal grill flavor and bought this instead. Wow, it is easy to use and easy to clean! I don't regret not getting a gas grill at all.

2. That said, gas is definitely easier if you don't want to think about grilling. To use charcoal I got online and studied two stage heating and where to place coals etc. This is pretty interesting and I enjoyed learning about cooking with charcoal. Note that although this grill makes it easy to cook with charcoal, learning to cook properly takes some studying to do it right and have amazing steaks (and once you learn the basics it becomes second nature). If you just want to fire up a grill for some burgers and steak without watching a bunch of YouTube videos and reading BBQ blogs, gas is the way to go.

3. The Weber propane lighting system isn't as good as I expected. Some reviews talk about how big the flame is and whatnot, but I disagree. The charcoal holder is an oblong shape and the flame only covers the center of the holders. Thus, the middle charcoal is ready to go very quickly and the coals on the edge aren't even hot yet. After about ten minutes I find myself using the tongs to move the charcoals around a bit so that I can put the edge pieces on top of the hot ones. I was expecting the flame to cook all the coals while I was in the kitchen prepping the food and not having to play with coals half way through, but that isn't the case. Weber should make the flame much longer to heat all the coals in the basket evenly (or use two flames spread apart). I read on another website that it's better to get a Weber charcoal chimney and place that over the flame. The chimney keeps all the charcoals stacked on top of each other and they all heat at the same rate with no cold coals afterward. I'll probably buy a chimney this weekend and try it out. Of course, if you need a chimney why spend the extra money to buy the propane starter on this grill? Not much reason, but I already bought it. It should make lighting the chimney with propane super simple and faster since I don't have to deal with tearing up newspaper and pouring vegetable oil on it every time. Like I said, I'm lazy. :-)

UPDATE: Right after writing this review I've since bought a chimney and use it with the propane starter. The combination of the chimney and propane starter is a winner. Check out the comment thread for this review to see more discussion about it. It's awesome.

Update 2: Last night I ran out of propane (it lasted a little over 2 months now?) so I decided to try lighting the chimney with paper instead of replacing the propane just to compare the two methods of lighting it and see how much better the propane tank is. I took two pieces of newspaper, splashed some vegetable oil on them (I'll use olive oil next time since it's always sitting right next to my grill. LOL) and put it under the chimney. Within minutes that dang chimney was smoking like crazy and after 15 minutes it was an inferno. Just as good as using the propane tanks, but newspaper is free. :-) It was so simple and effective to use newspaper that I really don't see the reason to get the propane lighter now. Either way you light the chimney, it is soooo much better than the two trays they give you to light the charcoal. Just light it and forget it. No fussing with coals to make sure the outside coals get as hot as the inside coals.

4. The push button igniter was unreliable at first. Sometimes it would click and light the fire and other times not. Turns out that the cheap battery that comes with the grill should be thrown away immediately. I replaced it with a brand name battery (Energizer) and the button works every time now. Must be that the cheapo battery doesn't have a very good connector on the ends? Don't know.

Update: The push button is still unreliable. The new batteries seemed to help at first, but that was a fluke. It's back to its old ways again. I push in on the starter really hard sometimes to get it to spark. I'm tempted to call warranty service to see if they could send me a new one that is more reliable...

5. The clock that sits in that plastic holder keeps falling out. There is is VERY SMALL plastic tab inside the holder that is supposed to hold the timer in, but it was poorly designed and my timer is always falling on the ground. I finally just put it on top of the shelf and leave it there now. Different BBQ sites bash on it being a cheap $1 timer, but what do you need from a timer? It does the job and after all the times it has fallen out of the holder without breaking, it is actually pretty rugged. I like it.

6. There is a long hole on the backside of the grill that is used to hold the top grate while you mess with the charcoal. I've been putting my grate on the ground to get it out of the way until I saw a picture on the internet that showed how the grate handle fits into that hole in the back. Nice.

7. The side table is really convenient, but now that I'm cooking a lot I could use more counter space. I'm looking into a modification to make a small shelf above it to hold extra oven mitts, cooking spray, paper towel roll, thermometers and stuff that I need to have close by but I don't want them on the table when I'm moving hot food around and have to move quickly (I knock things on the ground a lot when I have something hot coming off the grill). It's amazing how much stuff I need to have on hand while I'm grlling and the table fills up fast. So a small second shelf would be really great.

8. When putting the grill together, everything was pretty simple and I finished in just under an hour. But one thing that totally confused me was how to attach the ash catcher to the bottom of the grill. The instructions show some type of 3D image with a partial cutout of how it fits on the grill, but I just couldn't visualize how it is supposed to stay under the grill and not fall off without being screwed in. There are three small hollow tubes under the grill and the diameter is the same size as the metal tabs. It looks like a perfect fit. So I tried to jam the metal tabs into the hollow tubes to make it stay. But that was a really bad idea and kind of screwed up the shape of the ash catcher. I finally figured out that you just need to bend the three tabs back a half an inch and then fit them along the side of each tube and the pressure against the tubes at the same time is enough to hold it in place. I build a lot of stuff from IKEA and can follow directions really well, but this one step took me a while to figure out.

9. The small propane tank does't come with the grill. Most people probably already know this, but I've never grilled before and I when I got the grill I was really excited to start cooking immediately (I worked from home that day so I would be there when the UPS driver arrived!). I would have bought a tank before the grill was delivered and instead I had to make another trip to Home Depot after assembling it. Also, I couldn't find a specification of the tank size connector to buy. I didn't want to buy one that doesn't fit and have to make another trip. Turns out that these small propane tanks are all the same standard size (at least they are in Home Depot) and it was no problem. Oh yeah I bought two tanks b/c they are pretty small and only cost a few dollars each. I expect that one day I'll want to fire up the grill with my friends around and find out that the tank is empty and have to go buy another in the middle of the party. Having an extra tank on hand means the party isn't spoiled. Like I said, this might be common sense to a lot of people, but this could be helpful info for people new to grilling like myself.

10. The screws that connect the thick wire that holds the grill lid in place while open uses pegs on the inside of the grill. Unfortunately, those little pegs are just big enough to get in the way of me putting the top grate on the grill when the coals are ready. I have to be careful to avoid the pegs and angle the grate to go under the pegs and then rest it on the grate ledges. If Weber would have used flush screws inside the grill then this wouldn't be a problem. There is probably something to do with the pegs giving support to the wire lid holder, but it still gets in my way when the coals are hot and I'm trying to quickly put the grate on the grill without getting burned.

UPDATE: Okay, I overstated the problem here. Just put the grate in at an angle and a little lower than the screws with some grill gloves on and it's not a big deal. I was trying to put the grate down flat on top of the grill and kept hitting the screws. Just go at an angle and it's no biggie.

11. I bought the black grill b/c reviews online said that the colors online don't match the actual product. But I just saw that a friend of mine bought the same grill and got it in blue. Blue looks great and is much better than black. I wish I would have gone with blue.

All in all this is a fantastic grill and I'm grilling with it all the time now. I love it and my friends are very impressed with it. But if anyone from Weber is reading this, you could definitely make some tweaks in the next model to make it better.

Good luck with your grilling!

Best Deals for Weber Performer Platinum Charcoal Grill

Because I have moved a lot, I have probably gone through close to 8 Weber ONE-TOUCH Silver charcoal grills but have always been happy with them. Recently, I purchased my first house so i decided to go all out by ordering a Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker 22.5 and this Weber Performer Platinum. I must say, the Weber Performer has exceeded my expectations! Here are a few positives:

1. Never before have I had such easy coal ignition. This is enough reason to give praise to the Performer Platinum.

2. The table-top is spacious and is great for prepping or beer placement.

3. The storage space provides one convenient location for coals, woods, and other stuff.

Negatives:

1. Missing the beer refrigerator :)

If you can afford it, my recommendation would be to spend the extra money for the Platinum. Now that I have purchased this grill, there's no going back to the ONE-TOUCH. Hope this review helps.

Honest reviews on Weber Performer Platinum Charcoal Grill

I've always heard good things about the Weber brand, but this is my first. I'd been looking at this one for a while when I caught a review from America's Test Kitchen. Solid construction on Weber's first-rate name, this has a very sturdy work table, and the propane igniter for the charcoal is a great little bonus that I didn't think I'd use that much (I'm a big proponent of chimney starters), but use it all the time now. The thing I noticed almost immediately was the air flow control into the kettle. The lid seals magnificently, and the air flow regulators do a good job of opening things up or locking it down so tight the coals will extinguish before they turn to ash.

I got this grill on Thursday night and found several parts missing. A quick call to Weber customer service fixed that they overnighted the missing parts at their expense. They did verify my purchase but the call was quick, painless and they registered my warranty while I was on the phone with them. This is my second performer and there are several improvements over my previous performer. The starter system is improved and there's a timer that comes with this model that is easy to use and has a big enough display that I don't need my glasses to read it. One difference I noticed right away is that this grill reaches higher temperatures faster than my previous Weber Performer in 30 minutes it hit 450 degrees using the charcoal holder this grill burns hotter than a lot of the competition, uses less charcoal and can be used for direct and indirect convection grilling. This is an outstanding piece of equipment it's well worth the money and you can't go wrong with this grill.

Appeared to be a solid grill topper upon arrival. Outset even has a nice website describing their products (unlike many other brands). Outset even advertised their other products with the same copper coating with good reviews from some food magazine. Upon first use, I was very surprised to see it warped under moderate heat (350F). After it cooled down, it bent back in shape. It was fairly easy to clean after 1st use. Then with 2nd grilling, the food started to stick terribly. I was unable to clean the charcoal mess left on the grill topper. I even left it soaked in soapy water overnight, and was still unable to clean it easily afterwards. I tried to use regular soft dish washing scrubber to clean off the charcoal mess, then discovered some of the nonstick copper-tone "double coat" silicone coating came off! I trashed this piece of junk, as I don't want my family risk eating this non-stick silicone stuff! One of the worst purchases ever! I plan to get a plain stainless steel grill topper next time. It may not be easy to clean, but I can at least use some heavy duty scrubber on it and not worry about any type of nonstick coating coming off...

Used it three times, twice do do fries which worked okay and once to grill some Salmon. VERY hard to clean after grilling Salmon. Wouldn't buy another or recommend to a friend.

This grid worked well for the first couple times of use but my grill got a little hot one day and the grid turned black and the food and tasted a little funney so I don't use it anymore aso don't think it is very good.

I will not recommend to use this for cooking. Copper colored metal smells bad when you heat it up. I tried several times to heat it up to see if the smell will go away. There is no way we should put food and cook it or eat it after.

Love this product for it's ease of use, and veggies no longer fall through the racks on the grill, but this is very difficult to clean. We don't have a dishwasher and have to wash everything by hand, and this is not very fun to clean in a tiny sink.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program If you're looking for a cheap inexpensive small portable grill there are better choices. Weber makes several models cheaper than this. All in basic black. If looks matter, however, if you want your guests to comment about how nice your grill is, or you just like bright colors, the Bodum Fyrkat is about as about as cute as you're going to get.

I don't mean to dismiss appearance this is a nice looking grill. But it is more expensive and I honestly couldn't see why other than its unusual appearance.

The Fyrcat is slightly smaller and most definitely lighter than Weber grills in the same range. Lighter is probably better when looking at portability. The lid latches are tight and secure and allow you to carry the grill with charcoal ready to go inside.

The negative comments about the heat vents near the handle seem a bit over reactionary. Your hand is not directly exposed to the air escaping as the lower arm of the handle is directly above the vent. It's a minimal risk given that users should have protective mitts on hand nearby in the first place. The design also has a plus side as you turn the handle to close and open the vents. Not a major selling point, but it is easier on this grill than on the Weber Smokey Joe grills.

If you're on a tight budget this probably isn't the grill for you. If you're looking for something that's both practical and attractive, that shows itself off a little, this is a nice grill to own.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program

The Bodum Picnic Grill is a good looking grill that you can take with you on your family outings. It is big enough for a 4 or 5 hamburgers or steaks but small enough to easily fit in the trunk of your car.

A few other points

As others have mentioned the grills vent is right by the handle. You do need to be careful

With the locks on the side the grill can be moved without worrying about everything dumping out.

The grill is very colorful if you like colorful grills you are in luck!

Lightweight probably weighs less than 3lbs

Seems to have solid construction it certainly does not feel flimsy

Designed to allow even charcoal distribution while provide a nice convection like effect

At the list price the grill does not seem like much of a value. You may want to investigate to see if you can find less expensive options.

Final Verdict I am impressed with the grill, but you may be able to find a less expensive options

Best Deals for Bodum Fyrkat 13.4-Inch Portable Charcoal Grill

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The Bodum Frykat 13.4 Inch Portable Charcoal Grill is a handy little grill for those who don't have the space for a larger grill, or who want a portable grill you can take along just about anywhere. It's small enough to take along and use wherever, but large enough to cook a fair amount at a time. This is more for the family going on a picnic or cooking a couple burgers and hot dogs quickly in the back yard or on the deck, not for hosting a large party. (It is big enough to cook a couple steaks too)

I have the orange model, which my little girl really likes because she likes orange. However, it does come in green, yellow, black, blue and off-white. Personally, I'd probably go with the black model if it was just me, but it is nice that they have the colors for those that want the variety. Most important thing is that it cooks, and that it does.

There is a small tray and grate that fits in the bottom to place your charcoal on top of, and then there is the larger grill that fits on top. The unit is not very deep, so you won't be placing a lot of charcoal in it. Again, this is for cooking small meals, and it works just fine for that. The legs are sturdy enough. I placed mine on the concrete beside our back door and it was fine. The directions to state that the unit is not intended to be used on top of tables.

There is a handle on top of the lid that is rubber covered so it does not get hot when on the grill. I had no issues with taking the cover off to turn our meat or retrieve it when it was done. There are two air vents right under the handle, and you close those by turning the handle. There are also three rubber clips on the side. These are for transporting the unit when not in use. These clips clamp the lid to the rest of the unit and you can then pick up the entire grill by the convenient handle on top and take the grill with you wherever you go. You don't want to do this unless it is cool of course.

If you are looking for a small charcoal grill due to lack of space, or need a smaller spare for taking with you, the Bodum Frykat 13.4 Inch Portable Charcoal Grill is a good little unit that does the trick. It is a bit more expensive than some of the models you can find, but it is nicer in a couple ways than some of the cheaper ones I've seen too. I like cooking with it, my little girl likes the color, and I'm sure it will be a nice, handy, little grill for many lunches, dinners, and picnics.

Honest reviews on Bodum Fyrkat 13.4-Inch Portable Charcoal Grill

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The Bodum Fyrkat 13.4" Grill is a great little grill for backyard/camping grilling. It has a rubber-coated handle as well as rubber coated grill cover clamps which can come in handy when around hot steel. In addition to Orange, the Fyrkat also comes in three other colors for those people who are tired of the basic black. The lid handle also turns to actuate the air vents in the lid which is a nice feature. The charcoal platform/ash collector is removable to allow for separate cleaning. This should theoretically allow for the interior to stay extremely clean, since the charcoal bits will fall into a separate compartment, and not the bottom of the grill as with a Weber model, but so far I haven't been able to figure out how to remove this piece w/o some of the burned charcoal rolling off into the bottom of the grill. Guess I need more practice.

Big drawback and why I've lowered it to 3 Stars is that the grill is very expensive. List price is $80 which is REALLY high considering comparable portable grills. Although Amazon has lowered this to $49.99, it is still more expensive than the much cheaper Weber 10020 Smokey Joe Silver Charcoal Grill (lists at $34.70, Amazon sells at $29.70) or Weber's upgrade model the 40020 Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal Grill (lists at $39.70, Amazon sells at $34.70). Considering I see little difference in actual operation and function between the Bodum and Weber grills (especially between the Fyrkat and the Smokey Joe Silver both of which I now own), I'm wondering what you are paying for in the additional $15. The rubber-coated devices, although a really nice touch, and a little higher quality construction can't be worth 33% more can it?

Good grill, but unless the color variations and rubber-coated handles really do it for you, seems like a little pricey for a backyard/camping/tailgate grill unless you are using it to cook your Salmon and Bris...

******** UPDATE **********

(9 July, 2012): Word to the wise DO NOT LOSE ANY PART OFF THIS GRILL!!! I recently left the grill top at a park after a cookout and after looking around Bodum's website and after several calls to their customer service line, I learned that they DO NOT sell replacement grill tops (or for that matter, any kind of spare parts). One guy took my name and number and said that he'd call me back if they took a grill on return (still hearing crickets chirping...). So now I am left with a charcoal grill that I already thought was somewhat pricey but now it has no cooktop. Of course, Bodum's kettle is a non-standard diameter so no other brand makes a grating that perfectly fits into the space (not even Webber and their many different sized options) so I'm left with either improvising a cooktop that doesn't fit or retrofitting the interior of the kettle to make the replacement grate that I bought fit. I chose the former and went with a larger grill that we can lay over the kettle and we've only used it once since. A crying shame...

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Well, we're more than halfway through summer, and I've just finally gotten it together to do a post about portable charcoal grills. Some of you may know I write a popular meat blog called The Meatist (), and in my meaty adventures have had occasion to cook out of doors more than a little.

While for the last few years I've been laming out and relying on the ease-of-use that comes with a gas grill, I recently received a Bodum Fyrkat Portable Charcoal Grill for review, and I was psyched to get back to charcoal.

The Fyrkat is a fairly basic grill at first glance; it's got a wire grate for cooking, it's a kettle-style, and it's got two ventilation holes at the top of the dome, controlled by twisting the handle back and forth. What sets it apart from many others, and certainly from a hibachi, is the three latches that hold the top in place. This allows you to fill it with charcoal, slap the top on, and toss it in your trunk to go to a cookout. No fuss, no muss, and it's easy to carry the whole thing by the handle.

In the performance department, it does great. Plenty of ventilation from the bottom (underneath the separate charcoal tray that catches the vast majority of ash) gives you the flexibility to run it hot or hotter by moderating the top vents.

As for grill size, I was able to cook up five giganzo burgers on the 13.4 inch grate with no problem at all, so a basic cookout for a family of 5 or 6 would be easy peasy.

If easy transport isn't a priority though, you can save a few bucks and rock the Weber Smokey Joe Silver Charcoal Grill which is about $20 cheaper. While it doesn't come with the latches, and colors aren't quite as interesting (it comes in black, as opposed to the orange, blue, green, yellow, white, adn black of the Bodum), it's 14.5-inch grill gives a bit more space too cook on, and it's a Weber, so you know it will last.

On the downside, the Weber holds its charcoal on a straight grate, which means ash is apt to fall through the bottom vent holes and land wherever you've parked the thing. On the Fyrkat, there's a solid pan under the grate, but above the ventilation holes, so that isn't nearly as much of an issue, either when cooking or during post-cookout transport.

But regardless, either of these beat a hibachi hands down in my opinion. They're compact, the work great, and the capitalize on a covered, smokey cooking environment. If you're in the market for a small cookout grill that you can transport easily, or are just tired of looking at your hibachi, give the Fyrkat a good look.

Oh, and if you're looking for tips on grilling and cooking meat or recipes for meats and barbecue sauces, stop by The Meatist I've got a ton of 'em.

I'm so glad I found this product. My heat tents were rusted and corroded on my Charmglow BBQ,(series 810-7310 bought from Home Depot 4 years ago) but I didn't want to spend over $20 PER Heat Tent plus shipping for original replacement parts. (my bbq has 3 burners)This item fits perfectly at just under 17" long (adjusts to shorter lengths) it is about 4" wide, and the shipping was super fast and FREE!

These ended up being pretty sweet. It took about 5 minutes to adjust four of them to the length that I needed for my grill. Popped them in and now I'm back to grilling.

These heat tents are not truly adjustable. They can be used at 13 1/4 inches or 16 3/4 inches but no where in between. I needed some that adjusted to 16 1/4 inches and found them at Home Depot.
