I was given this "NEW and Improved griddle" from Camp Chef to test out in the field here in Central Oregon where we cook outside over 300 nights a year.

They have a new mold and design and now it will perform like all of the other Camp Chef products. (Camp Chef has the best customer service in the industry)

This is one of my favorite griddles since it can be used on both sides! After reading some of the older reviews and hearing Camp Chef had redesigned the Griddle it was time to test the new product.

We have been using this model now for about a month and they are super durable.

Finish is completely pre seasoned and easy to keep "Black"

Cast iron stays hot for a long time!

Like others before I also received a griddle that cracked the first time it was heated. I immediately called Camp Chef to tell them their product had a problem. They acknowledged they already were aware of the issue and appreciated my call. They said the issue was addressed and agreed to send me out at new one at no cost and assured it me it wouldn't break. I am pleased to say I have used the new on three times and it works wonderfully.

It is nice to see a company who admit to it's problems and takes care of the customer.

An excellent add to any grill not just for camp chef grills! The fit may not be perfect but the plate compensates for uneven heating of todays cheap grills and the flimsy grill racks on them. And grilling on a griddle plate is healthier due to no food falling through and burning up. You can also flip it over and cook bacon & eggs or pancakes on the backside on lazy weekend mornings.

I was able to put this to use for the first time this past weekend. It was awesome! Worked exactly as expected. Very easy to cook on and clean. I see us breaking this out on every camping trip. Just a bit of warning though...our first meal on the griddle side was scrambled eggs (which cooked up super fast) and we forgot to make sure the stove itself was level and the eggs almost slid over the not so tall edge. Once the stove legs were leveled, everything was perfect.

This is a great little griddle. For several years I have used it with the Camp-Chef triple burner stove about once a month when the girls get together and go horse camping. It's used for most every meal from hash browns, bacon, and pancakes to grilled cheese or hamburgers to fajitas, fish tacos or quesadillas. Everything always cooks perfect on this griddle! I have even used it as a warming tray by setting plates of food and the coffee pot on it as it disperses heat well when the stove is turned to the 'low' setting. And clean up is a snap. It's hefty, but not too heavy for me to easily lift about. Several other friends bought this after seeing mine, though they each had a drain hole drilled in the catch-channel along the side; that is way too messy for me. I think it is already optimally designed. Grease is easily soaked up with a paper towel and then properly disposed.

This has to be the worst grill I've ever operated. My last grill was a cheap Walmart Model that lasted about 6 years and I Had a hand me down before that so I'm not comparing this too a Weber or anything. The flair-ups are horrible even on the lowest setting. Assembly was easy, and that's about the only thing it has going for it.

The cooking surface was not well coated and the food stuck to it easily. The plate over the burner is made from very thin, cheap looking metal that looks like it won't last long and little to prevent flair-ups. Cooking surface is also too close to the burner/plate. Even on the lowest settings the flair ups would rocket temps to 600 degrees, quickly charring the steak (it does not have a temp gauge, but I used an internal one). If you like burnt on the outside and not cooked on the inside this is the grill for you. Impossible (as designed) to cook properly, steak should not be blackened, as is carcinogenic, yet impossible to prevent with this grill. I'm going to try briquettes before completely giving up on it, only because I already assembled it and don't want the hassle of returning.

I guess it's what I get for buying an American made product of this type and expecting quality while getting a poor design and cost cutting on surface coatings, etc. I would like to buy American; even bought this two burner for about the same cost as a stainless four burner made overseas. I read the rave reviews here and ignored a bad review of a similar model by the same manufacturer (that also complained about the flair-ups). So disappointed.

My Amazon ordered for this grill was filled very quickly, ordered on Saturday and it arrived on Thursday. No damage to the box and everything inside was fine. I'm a very slow "assembler" but it took only 90 minutes from opening the box to grilling. Most importantly NO moments of frustration/anger during assemble. Construction is very good, considering it's an inexpensive grill and the instructions where not that difficult to understand.

About the grilling it has an even and HOT fire. Have done burgers and a few steaks and I'm very happy with the results. No flare ups.

I've always bought more expensive grills $500+ and the result for grilling steaks was no better than the Huntington. When the Huntington starts showing its age, I'll replace it with a new one. With my previous expensive grills, I had to nurse them along a few more years, to get my money's worth.

For everyday grilling for the two of us this grill is perfect.

The wipes work okay on recent grilling debris but, not after sitting for awhile as advertised. They do, however, work as an intermediate cleaner but further thorough cleaning is required later.

I keep these wipes near my grill and always use them to clean up after grilling. There is no need to dirty towels with soot and ash, these wipes have the same biodegradable stainless steel cleaner infused inside. I like that this product is "Eco-Safe' because I often wonder if other cleaners will harm my family if they are left on the meat or if spraying or igniting chemicals into the air outside is harmful to the environment.

If you like grilling kabobs these are great skewers for you. Basically, there are two main types of skewers available in the market. Metal and Wooden. Wooden ones can be made of bamboo or other wood types and often are round shape. The problem with wood skewers is that they can get burnt if the grill is quite hot so you have to soak the skewers in water before use. Also, because they are round, it's difficult to "flip" the skewer so that you can evenly grill the kabobs or whatever else you are grilling.

The metal skewers generally available in market are round. You don't have to soak them in water but they still have problem with flipping the skewer for even cooking. Flat metal skewers are perhaps the best. They are not burnt by heat and you can flip the skewer easily for even cooking. The only thing you have to be careful about is that metal gets hot after being on grill, so hand gloves are a must with these.

I bought weber flat flat skewers before I bought these. The weber ones are not as wide and perhaps not as sturdy as these. These skewers are also available in 5/8 inch and 7/8 inch widths besides the 3/8 inch width. I bought all three width skewers from amazon but I think for most purposes 3/8 inch size is best.

I am giving these four stars because when I hand washed them I could bend the skewer while washing and I think they could be made sturdier.

For the price, I think I got an excellent product.

I bought several different sized sets of these skewers so I could try them all, including the widest so I could cook ground beef.

These stainless steel jems are simply the best........ The quality and workmanship is excellent. Unlike water soaked bamboo skewers that will burn up, you can cook your kabobs on very hot fires and get that crusty exterior that makes em taste great. These skewers are flat and can be turned with tongs or even pliers. The meat and veggies will not spin. They are dish washer safe.

I shortened several of the skewers by 2" making them the perfect length to fit in a Large Big Green Egg. Left at full length they are fine for a 22" Webber.

I also used a file to sharpen the points to make the food literally glide on the skewers. (Take care when using the skewers if you sharpen them)

I'd give these a 6 out of 5 if I could.

These skewers are great they make cooking kebabs easier and hence more enjoyable to me. They really are flat so they don't rotate. By hand these are easy to clean and I haven't had any rust problems (I don't own a dishwasher). I don't own a grill either so I make all of my kebabs under a gas broiler. I make a *lot* of kebabs (from Indian to Vietnamese to BBQ, see images for an example) and I went through soaking bamboo skewers like lots of other people. I also wasted money on those metal skewers with the "B B Q" on the ends (available on Amazon). They're terrible (I reviewed those as well). Finally I bought all 3 sizes of the Steven Raichlen skewers together with a mandoline slicer and got the cheapest one free by the 4-for-3 promotion. At first I found it a little difficult to get the skewers through certain types of meat, and I poked myself a few times (nothing serious). I decided to sharpen the ends of the skewers myself. I have to be more careful now, but ultimately I think it's safer since the skewers just glide through the meat and I don't have to force them and they don't slip (similar to why sharp knives are safer than dull ones). I uploaded an image of a sharpened versus nonsharpened skewer end.

Kebabs are a great food in my opinion -delicious yet easy, fast and fairly inexpensive (depending on the meat you choose, of course!). It usually takes me about 30 minutes to get a marinade together and prepare the meat, then I let them sit in the fridge for a day or so. Cooking kebabs under the broiler is quick and easy, cleanup is a snap, and a citrus splash, some dipping sauce (either a chutney or the rest of the marinade cooked down to a paste) and a simple side dish (from homemade potato salad to a green salad to other, various veggie kebabs) complete the meal. Wash it down with a homemade ginger kombucha and finish with an espresso for dessert. I am an avid cook and have bought lots of equipment and cookbooks on Amazon. Eventually I will review all of them, especially the cookbooks, so you can see which kebab recipes I like for whatever it's worth.

The actual skewer is wonderful to use, keeping the meat and veggies from moving around. However, after putting them in the dishwasher to clean they came out with rust on them, so are they actually stainless steel. I recommend hand washing.

So you want to cook with gas but get the flavor of charcoal? Using a smoke box like this is the ticket. Load it with wood chips and or charcoal pellets and smoke while you grill. The particular smoke box works really well because of the tubular design. It fits under the grill in-between flame guards. The handle is a nice touch although I never use it as I leave mine under the grill therefore inaccessible until cooled down anyway.

Load the Smokerin up, place it to one side on higher heat. Put your meat on the other side under low flame and get BBQ flavor with the convenience of gas.

It's ok. I mean, it's still a total mess to use wood chips even inside this thing, but I guess it keeps everything contained. It's never as pretty as when you first open the box. After the first use, it looks like a mis-placed muffler.

So you spend 45 dollars of hard earned money to purchase what looks like one of the best in grill smokers available on amazon. In the end, a 3 cent piece of aluminum foil placed on the grill surface appears to do just as good a job, or better. Now maybe it needs to be placed below the grill grate, but it doesn't say that in the instructions. It does however come with flexible metal straps so it can be positioned below the grill grate, but then it is nearly impossible to add chips on a hot grill. Mostly I was disappointed with the lack of smoke produced and the lack of flavor added to my food. The foil worked better!! Save your money

I would give this a five star rating but the item I received was not the same as in the picture so I lowered the review by one star. I'm not sure if this was an unintentional mistake or not but it is not the same as the one in the picture.

In the photo the skewers are round and bronze looking but the item I received are black and have a flattened sort of knife-like appearance instead of being round. The design is interesting since it seems that the food will be less likely to spin around on the skewer since it's flattened but BBQ is not what I was intending to use it for.

I have gotten into polymer clay beads and figured that this would be perfect to use for making and baking them on the skewer so they would have a hole and wouldn't lay flat on the baking tray causing one side to be 'dimpled' from where they clay sat. Since I did not receive the round version as shown in the picture I am a bit disappointed by this purchase.

That saidI'll still be keeping it since it seems to be a decent product and shish kabob's are awesome... but if you are looking for round skewers then look elsewhere.

I was so satisfied with mine for the first month that I purchased one form my dad as well. About a year later all eight of the probes we had between the two of us are no longer functioning. OK......My sis and I send each other little kitchen gadgets all the time....usually included in birthday or Christmas gifts. Heres the deal.....My sis sent me this Burton Poultry Thermometer, and it is really cute, but.........I dont know how to use it. My son and family were here recently, and needed to check a Beer Can Chicken.......although we used the thermometer, we didnt know what to look for. This is easy to use and amazingly accurate. I have been using three different ones (fish, poultry & beef) for a few years. This was ordered as a replacement. I was skeptical when my wife got one of these to try. We're big grilling aficionados and to me, not grilling directly on the grates just seemed wrong. Well, I was wrong. After the seasoning process was completed (read the instructions), my maiden voyage was marinated steak tips, which usually try to escape through the grating and the marinade causes flare ups. None of that with this. The tips cooked evenly in their own juices (and marinade) to an evenly browned, juicy, melt in your mouth meal. When you're done cooking, just shut the grill off. The stuff mostly burns off as the grill cools (obviously scrape any excess off), then the next time you want to cook with it again, just dump it over, light you're grill, and you're on you're way. Next was Italian sausage with peppers and onions. Wow, or should I say yum?! I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

The Island Grillstone is awesome. The flavor and ease of cooking is wonderful. I made sausage burgers and fried onions all on the stone at the same time four 1/4 Lb burgers and onions fit perfectly for making a great dinner. Seasoning the stone was as easy as 1-2-3. Being able to use both sides for grilling means while one side is being cleaned (facing down) the other side is great for cooking. The more you use it the better it gets. Here is how I recommend seasoning along with great instructions included with the stone.

1. Wash as directed, but do NOT submerge stone. Wash and Rinse

2. Dry completely (24 hours is my recommendation in a cool dry place (I shortened this to a few hours by using the dehydrate setting on my oven, at 110F. no problems)

3. Apply with brush olive oil to ALL sides

4. Place on cold grill and heat evenly (SLOWLY) as too quick can cause the stone to break (warning from manufacturer not my experience). I have a gas grill and charcoal grill, but used my gas to complete the seasoning step. Bring stone and grill up to temperature.

5. Let it cool completely before using. Flip over stone, heat grill and stone from cold up, on medium.. You are ready to cook.

6. When cooking be patient and enjoy. (no flare ups, even cooking, no lost parts.)

7. Have 2 spatulas available to move food around as it makes it easier.

I love mine it is a great addtiona to my grilling world and will use it more than the steel grates it sits on.

I did all the things to season it, it definitely has some advantages and disadvantages. It's great for anything you don't want flames to directly burn. An easy mistake is to make is to not heat it up enough, it really needs to get hot, I think, to brown meat. So for a steak, which I like a little crispy on the outside with grill marks, it put them on the the grill half way done. I haven't tried any of veggie things yet.

If you're looking to get your first smoker, look no further. Since it's a horizontal-style smoker, it can also double as a BBQ pit/charcoal grill. Plenty of room, very versatile. Treat it well and it will give you a decade of use.

The reason I can't give it 5 stars is because of the thickness of the metal. If it were a little thicker, there would be much more heat retention. You can buy smokers with 1/4"+ thickness, but expect to pay at least $600.

This is easily the best smoker in its price range.

Make sure you season the inside of the smoker similar to how you would season a cast iron pan. As with any smoker, before use, paint the interior of the smoker with shortening or vegetable oil, then start up the smoker and let it smoke for a couple or few hours.

Also, you should almost always keep the chimney vent all the way open. Use the intake vent on the firebox for temperature control.

I got this grill last year as a father's day gift. I'd never smoked any meat in my life but have been a grill-man for a looong time. This smoker makes it easy. I've done ribs, brisquet, pork steaks, chicken. All turned out great, that brisquet especially! Make sure you cure the inside of the grill before cooking anything in it. There are instructions in the box. Also, if your model doesn't come with the built-in thermometer, make sure you order one from the char-broil website. Using a standard oven thermometer wastes time and precious heat.

I was looking for a grill/smoker, and I had some experience with Charbroil in the past, and was not disappointed. This grill/smoker did not impress me. Here's what I liked:

1. Both the grill and side firebox come in the same package and are designed to work seamlessly together. And they do work well together.

2. It does have an attractive price.

3. The side firebox is to the left. Being stubbornly right handed, I prefer to have my tools handy to the right, not the left.

What I do not like:

1. Thin metal used on grill body. Does not retain heat well.

2. The opening to the main grill area covers only about 1/2 of the grill surface. What that means is that you will have to reach into the grill to get to any items that are near the back. That gets hot, and makes it difficult to get that nagging hamburger that just will NOT get on the flipper.

3. I just do not see this grill lasting me for years, and if I need to replace it in 3-5 years, the attractiveness of the price just disappeared.

So, I sold this on Craigslist, and bought me the Char Griller Super Pro and Side Fire Box (sold seperately) for not too much more. That I would recommend.

As a grad. student in Tennessee I didn't have the funds to purchase a great smoker, but for under $200 it does the job. I do tons of ribs, and after about five batches I'm constistantly churning out quality pork ribs. I don't really mind the thin metal, that is easiely compensated for, my biggest complaint is that the door isn't tight enough, which makes heating the other side of the grill area harder. But for under $200 I don't expect creme de la creme, I expect something that works, and it does work.

My husband owns this smoker. He has just gotten into real authentic BBQ. He has done a lot of research regarding this smoker and has made all the appropriate modifications. He uses the Minion method of fire building and has no problems controlling the heat. This is a good beginners model to start learning about real BBQ. His results with this smoker have been awesome and he would recommend this smoker for anyone who wants to do real BBQ and isn't afraid to do some work to the smoker.
