Review of Propane Cylinder (10052.3)

Propane Cylinder
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

If you are an average-joe propane user, acquaint yourself with the term "quick connect" before buying this product. To me this meant that you didn't need a wrench to remove the hose. Wrong... A quick disconnect is akin to a fitting on an air compressor. I have no idea how you will get this tank filled if you buy it. To compound an already confusing description, they added "Customers buy this item with Mr Heater F276172 1-Pound Disposable Propane Tank Refill Adapter by Mr Heater $14.59". I can tell you that this Adapter will not work on a tank with a quick disconnect.

I took my complaint to the vendor who's response was "tough luck, chump", Amazon does the pictures and descriptions, it ain't our fault or problem. They're sending me a regular tank which was $4 more but I'm still out an extra $14 in shipping.

I like the tank but the transaction has been painful.

If you have an older Weber Performer Grill with the 5 lb refillable tank, this is the exact replacement for it. It was identical to the orifginal tank which also made by Manchester Tank Company.

I looked at a local Hdwe Store that filled propane tanks and they had the quick release to make a standard 5 lb tank fit but it was $20 in addition to the standard tank at the same price as this one and the handle portion was more rounded and may not fit in the bracket that holds the tank in the grill.

For other quick release applications, make sure you know what you are getting and price any adapter you may need before ordering. (DON'T RELY ON THE PICTURE FOR ACCURATE VIEW OF QUICK RELEASE) This tank has the quick release built onto the valve and does not have standard tank fitting shown.

Prompt shipping from Grady's Online and I had it in two days in St Louis, MO with no problems.

If you plan to use this for a Coleman camp stove, it's very difficult to find adapters to make it work. I've gone to two specialty propane stores and still no luck. Beware of buying this online.

Honest reviews on Propane Cylinder (10052.3)

The 5LB. tank on my older Performer Grill finally had to be replaced this year. This tank is the exact replacement for the original tank. Same quick disconnect fitting and fits the hanger in the grill perfectly.

I have the original Weber One Touch Performer grill. My original tank valve locked up and this is the perfect replacement for it. Except its build and finish appear to be higher quality than the OEM tank, which lasted for about ten seasons. This one should last even longer than that.

I originally tried to use a 20lb tank, but trying to find the right hoses and adapters became too difficult (and expensive). So, if you also have one of these grills, save your time and get one of these!

It's okay for what I needed. Just right for catching the falling ashes in the bottom of my Ugly Drum Smoker.

I knew it was a cheap grill when I bought it (obviously).

Pros: It's a charcoal grill and can cook things.

Cons: Rusted completely through the bottom in less than a year. Spend the extra $15 and get a Weber, because you'll need to buy one anyway in about 9 months. Would work OK if you are planning to store this inside most of the time and only use it on certain occasions (like tailgates), otherwise the weather will kill it before long.

The set is really nice, sturdy metal utencils. My only issue is that the four skewers that come with it aren't really ang use as they have plastic on the top and bottom of the handles. We got really excited to make shiskabobs and within minutes the plastic was melted and useless. I dont know WHY they would have plastic for a grill skewer! We had to throw them out! So, all the other pieces are nice but it is really a 4 piece grill set for the same money. Oh, and being that this is the first time we've owned a grill, I reccommend getting a silicone basting brush instead of the one that comes with it... a pain to clean oil out of, and some of the bristles melted... so let me rephrase that.. its more like a 3 1/2 piece set.

I have owned a number of of smokers. One was a Brinkman charcoal "bullet" type smoker. It worked well but had to be watched over a lot. Then I decided to get a Brinkman electric bullet smoker. It didn't have any adjustments for temp and it couldn't get warm enough during the winter months even though I live in the south. Then I bought a Charbroil vertical propane smoker. It was by far the worst smoker I have ever owned. The wood chips and water are in the same pan in the base. The poor design made you steam the meat as much as smoke it and adjusting the temp was almost impossible. I also owned a wood burning offset smoker. It worked great but you had to constantly adjust the fire to keep the temp where you wanted it. So I started looking for an electric unit without a glass door. I have no use for a glass door. You can't see inside when the smoke gets going and the glass needs to be cleaned constantly.

Not long ago I purchased the Masterbilt smoker and I love it. It was reasonably priced and did not have a glass door. It exceeds my expectations every time I use it. It heats up quickly and stays at the correct temp. The smoker is economical to run and requires very little tending. The water pan and the wood chip pan are both relatively small but once filled, they last for 5 to 6 hours. Once the temp is set, the water and wood chip trays are filled, and the meat is in you can close the door and forget about it for at least 5 hours. The meat comes out smoked but not steamed and not the least bit dried out.

Originally I wanted a smoker with a digital control but during the 3 hour burn in period recommended in the owners manual, I adjusted the controller until I got the temp to 225° and marked the controller with a Sharpie. Now I just plug it in and set it to the mark. The digital would have been nice but it certainly isn't needed.

All in all this smoker has been great.

Now I've been happily married for 23 years and my wife, God Bless Her, is very thoughtful at Christmas for me, the kids and the entire family but this one takes the cake!!..I recieved this smoker last Chistmas and have used it for at least 40 meals. Brisket, Steaks, Meatloaf, Wings, Chicken Breast, Ribs, Pulled Pork Shoulder and even cooked skoked potatoes. maybe the other folk got a defective unit but mine is awesome...I have it in my shed near an open window and it smokes great. The thermometer in the front is good but my wife got an electronic thermometer that has 2 probes. 1 for the meat and 1 for the inside temp of the cooker. She also bought me these 12x12 cake pans 2 inches deep, work awesome....also get that cookbook from John McLemore "dadgum it's good" cookbook....but there's a ton of youtube videos on smoking and recipes. anyhow there ya have it, it's a great smoker. hope ya like it. I left my el cheapo charcoal smoker for this. Many warned me I would miss the charcoal, but they were wrong! Don't miss stuffing newspaper into the chimney lighter and getting black dust all over me from the coal. Only complaint is getting temp up when cold and windy outside. But, if no wind and above 40*, heats up quickly and efficiently. I've since done (3) pork shoulders, (2) chickens and some potatoes, all with good results. Water and wood pans a little small, but sacrifice one shelf to put cheapy tin pans for water and then use water pan for chips also. Works great!

Honest reviews on Masterbuilt 20070210 30-Inch Electric Analog Smoker

The thermometer on the front, like all non-digital thermometers is trash. Mine was +50 degrees cold, which means, if you are trying to BBQ at 225, its really at 275 and you end up caramelizing any sugar you may have in your rub.

Get a digital thermometer.

Also the heat cannot stay consistent, you'll notice a 20-30 degree swing in the temperature, and if you are going for 225, it doesn't get hot enough at the bottom for the wood chips to smoke and the grease gets all over your water bowl and chip bowl.

THE FIX is to cover the bottom rack in tin foil, this makes the smoker ROCK SOLID. The temp variance is less that 2 degrees up top, and the bottom gets plenty hot for smoke production as well as keeping the inside items clean. Once you get a digital thermometer, and cover the bottom rack in foil, this is a great smoker.

It's inexpensive and works well, not great. Construction is good for the money, but the door can stick when hot. Analog temperature control takes some getting used to and is not trustworthy for holding temps that steady (up to a 75 degree swing). If you can baby sit your smoke like you would a Weber, it works fine...I check the temps every 10-15 min for the first hour, then it settles in fine based upon outside temps, wind, shade/sun, etc. Since there is no inner thermostat (analog), you must manually control the temp with the dial control based upon your experience and what the included-door-thermometer is reading. It's much easier and cleaner to use than wood or charcoal Que's.

Meats come out very juicy with good smoke flavor, much less smoke ring than a charcoal or pellet BBQ. Fill the wood tray up with water-soaked wood chips and it lasts for 7+ hours of good smoke at 250. The water tray is very small and runs out in 4 hours; I add a cheap, foil-lined 9X13 baking pan on the lowest shelf for long smokes, filling it with beer or Coke for extra flavor on long smokes. (If you are unfamiliar with electric smokers, you will not get the same exterior texture as a coal or wood fire but you will get great smoke flavor.) Great for fish and fowl that are not too fatty.

It's the only electric I've ever owned (I like coal and pellets more). I'll buy another it this one ever breaks; it's a year old and going strong for now. Maybe it's overall a 3-star smoker, but it's a 4-5 star electric. Check the sales in the off-season at other online retailers.

We love the fajita maker.I have teenagers and when they have their friends over I have everything cut up in advance and they think it is great to make their own fajitas.

While this is a nifty gizmo, it is of little use if cooking for a family. It might be worth it if only cooking for two or three people. Most of what should be cooking surface is wasted by a tortilla warmer. I just found that this product was not worth the space it takes up, either stored or on the counter. Its design does allow for somewhat easy cleanup. I do think the person I passed it along to liked it better than I did. Of course she is only cooking for two.

Best Deals for El Paso 70190 Fajita Grill, Red

Our new fajita grill came with three of the four legs broken and the grill was unable to stay even without improper support. I called customer service and they told me that they did not have legs but that I might find them at a dollar store or small appliance center. The legs should have been of a durable rubber but were made of a brittle electrician type plastic. They are a specific shape that allows their plug into the above. We have looked and found nothing. So if you buy one, it does take up too much space and the plastic might melt but we need four legs that fit to use ours. This item is made in China so I might have to take a trip there to find the parts. The company should keep a good supply of free legs since this thing has a design flaw.

I bought this smoker last spring and, though it wasn't the one I actually wanted, couldn't pass it up due to the price, ($70 at Walmart. Goes for $139 now). I just read the review about the guy who hated it and I'm scratching my head. It is a fairly cheaply made smoker, but all my parts were there and went together pretty easily. The one design flaw truly is the water pan/wood chip pan combo. You can't foil the water pan due to the shape, so you always have to clean a very dirty water pan. I don't even use the water pan very often now. I just put my own little pan of water on the bottom. But there's nothing wrong with steam when your smoking. That's why you have a water pan, it turns to steam and helps meat to be moist. Other than that, I love my smoker. I've done ribs, brisket, shoulders, turkey and chicken, salmon, and they all have been awesome! I've read reviews where the doors have leaked smoke but I don't have that problem. It uses very very little gas and the temp. is not a problem. 220 is easy, (actually I have a hard time in the summer keeping the temperature down to 220) and can get it up to 300 or so for pizza. I love being able to control my smoke amount and temperatures independent of each other.

Overall, this is a great, inexpensive first smoker. Take some time to study smoking and you'll love it!!!!

This smoker has a very poor design; first you have to be very careful when pulling the racks out as they have no stops on them; second it burns too hot even on the lowest setting. I thought I had a bad regulator so I contacted the company who, after putting me through many hoops, charged me shipping for the new regulator, it had the same poor performance; thirdly, the inside is rusting form the moisture because it is not properly coated. The water will boil out of this smoker pan in less than two hours and you must frequently wet the chips to keep them from catching on fire.

Best Deals for Char-Broil CB-600X-LP Vertical Gas Smoker

I bought this smoker because I have already purchased a grill from Char-Broil and it has been an excellent BBQ. The frist thing I smoked was baby back ribs. They turned out great. The only thing I encountered was I could not get smoker up to 225 degrees until the water all boiled out. Don't know if this was due to being a windy day or what, will have to experiment more. I do however suggest you put the water in the pan then put your wood chips in. Only becasue the water spilled over in the chips section from filling the pan or closing the drawer. Had to take it out and start over 45 min into smoking.

Honest reviews on Char-Broil CB-600X-LP Vertical Gas Smoker

I have had this smoker for over 2 years now. I bought it primarily to smoke salmon.

The main problem was controlling the temperature The fish would be cooked before getting much smoke.

What you get is an OK metal smoke box. 4 racks. Flimsy sheet metal legs. A reasonable burner, controller, regulator, a fairly useless enameled water-chip pan, and a totally useless in the door thermometer. Not an unreasonable package for the price under $150 at Walmart.

What I did to make it work.

1 Cut a piece of 3/4" plywood to fit the base and screw the legs to it. I raised the platform by putting 1X2 cleats on 2 sides so a hand truck will slide under it. It is now portable so it can be stored. The provided handles are not enough.

2. Get a good probe thermometer. The one in the door of my unit read 225 when actual temperature was 325. Even if the thermometer in your unit is accurate the position in the door will make it unreliable.

4. Get rid of the combination water chip pan and replace it with a wire rack, steel smoke pan and separate cake pan for water and to catch drips.

I can now see the burner and have found I can control the flame by rotating the control clockwise between full and off. Probably not designed to work this way but it works.

I happened to have all the pieces but even if you bought them you would have a workable unit at a reasonable price

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Char-Broil CB-600X-LP Vertical Gas Smoker

I have found that I can make delicious smoked foods with this smoker. Typically, I make brisket and have found that the long process is made easier by the access doors which do not let smoke out when adding more wood chips. I have used Char-Broil's different flavors of wood chips; they have mesquite, hickory and apple wood. To start, I leave fat on the meat to keep it moist and tender during the smoking process, that way I don't end up with shriveled meat like some of the other reviewers have dealt with. After use, I have found the small maintenance has kept my smoker in good condition. This smoker is great, it might take practice to figure out the art of smoking, but the end result can be delicious!

Upon unpacking the legs did not fit due to the collars being smashed during shipment. This was not a big deal and was easy fixed. Then I started assembling the grill and noticed that the handle was not level with the grill. Once assembled it was about a half inch out of level. The front meat shelve on the outside of the grill hung down about two inches out of level and would not hold a tray of food without it sliding off. Last but not least the top grill in the burner box would not sit level. The last three items could not be fixed without the use of some cutting tools and a welder. I thought for a second that I should fix it and move on. I later decided to just send it back.

If you seek a small smoker grill that approaches performance of pro-quality backyard offsets, this is the one.

I've been through the small Char Broil and the Master Built before finding the Medina River Outdoors 65, and the performance difference is amazing. When outside temperatures dropped below 60, I couldn't maintain even a modest 220 degrees with the other cookers. This Medina has already performed down to 43 outside and looks like it'll hold cooking temps well into the 30s.

The difference is 14-gauge steel that's 25% thicker than 16-gauge found on most offsets. Other difference is the pro-quality design of a cooking chamber lid that fits tightly atop the barrel cut-out rather than a loose and leaky lid that's the entire top half of many other offsets. Chimney and thermometer placement also superbly follow top-line cooker design as do the firebox door and damper setup.

Construction and assembly materials are heavy duty throughout with quarter-inch bolts holding it together that are twice the size found on others. Fit is a bit less than top-line precise but very adequate and as good as or better than I was concerned it might be.

For those expecting a lot of modifying with an offset, the only I found needed for this one are those recommended for any offset like fabricating a charcoal basket to extend fire efficiency cooking time and to prevent coal burn-through contact with the firebox, and fabricating a firebox to cooking chamber deflector to shield food from hot coal "grill charring" while better evening out heat distribution across the cooking area. I did some minor high-temp silicone sealing around the thermometer mounting sleeve and the chimney where it attaches to the box, though this cooker tightness likely made any additional sealing unnecessary. A nice surprise was finding this the only offset I've owned with optimum spacing between fuel and cooking grates for grilling.

So far, I've slow barbecued some back ribs at 220 degrees and was quite impressed that a 5-pound loading of charcoal briquettes lasted the entire burn with plenty to spare at the end. I fully expect low and slow smoking to be as hassle-free as a top-line backyard offset something I've never found or expected with any lower price offset, no matter how much modified.

Patio space needed for this offset is a mere 24"x40" including wheel and front shelf space a nice design from sturdy legs angled just slightly out from attachment to the barrel. Other nice touch is a rail system for the cooking grates to conveniently rest on and a grease bucket sized perfectly for a standard soup can to throw away instead of having to scrape and scrub the bucket.

The small size of this cooker isn't without tradeoffs. With all its excellent qualities, it is very small for an offset. The firebox measures 12"x12" so you won't be throwing many logs in there, the cooking chamber is 12"x24" which makes for a limited guest list, and height from the cooking grates to the lid top is just 6-1/2" which does eliminate smoking a whole turkey. Cooking chamber grate area is comparable though to an 18.5" kettle grill (4 steaks 8 burgers) and addition of the firebox when grilling takes it just over a 22.5" kettle grill capacity (6 steaks 12 burgers).

I don't know how well the efficiency of this 14-gauge package translates to larger 14-gauge offsets. 14-gauge is way better than 16-gauge in this size range, though one might assume physics could cause larger 14-gauge cookers to begin performing more like the 16-gauge small models here. Getting the performance of this one in a large size might mean going for the 1/4" steel of a "big boy" backyard offset, though that's for someone else's review.

A final thought on this cooker is price. Shortly after I ordered mine, the price jumped $95 (40%) and the new price might well have kept me from buying. Knowing now that it performs near those costing about 3 times as much does seem to keep this Medina within an acceptable value range at the higher price as well, assuming there's comfort with its cooking capacity.

Update I see the price has dropped to what I originally paid for it, bringing this smoker back to the great value it was when I bought it.

Second Update Looks like the price jumped back up again. I paid around $250 with free shipping. Still love the smoker!

Best Deals for Medina River Outdoors 65 Patio Small Smoker/Gilll Combo

Received this smoker is good order. Each part was individually wrapped in paper then, wrapped again with bubble pack and placed within the smoker body for even more protection! The exterior shipping container was 1/4" corregated and seemed bullet-proof.

Took about an hour to put together. All parts accounted for. Everything fit. If you can turn a 7/16" bolt you can assemble it easily because that's most of what you use. Unit is 14-gauge steel, weighs 106 pounds and will probably outlast me. (I'm 60.)

Never had a smoker before. Bought Medina River because it is made of steel...all of it including the grates. Normally, I'm a scrooge but decided to treat myself and spend a little extra. Glad I did!

Honest reviews on Medina River Outdoors 65 Patio Small Smoker/Gilll Combo

This grill/smoker combo is an unbelievable bargain. The quality of the materials is that of a much more expensive unit. I have been smoking and grilling in sub freezing temperatures and the thicker gauge steel really holds the heat well. The grilling surface is only large enough for a few items at a time, but the unit does not take up much space. I recommend this product for anyone looking for a quality barbecue that has limited space to work with.

Brinkman, though an American company, outsources their barbecues from China and like so many items made in China, its barbecues and smokers are made from thin Chinese metals; the screws and brackets easily crack and split. After three times of use, the thermometer clouded up to the point in which the temperature was no longer visible . When I called customer service about the damaged thermometer, I was told that I can buy a replacement part. When I asked if Brinkman had better thermometers to choose from, the response was no. After a few months -even though it was convered -rust covered almost the entire front hood -even though I seasoned the grill with olive oil before cooking on it. There are many horizontal barrel smokers out there to choose from. I suggest choosing something with heavy gauge steel; it's with the extra $100.

As mops go this is one of the better ones that I have used. Often when I am smoking a brisket I need something that I can just slop on the juices with, and this mop is great. The fibers are quite absorbant so the hold a lot of juices. The handle is long enough that I can reach through the small smoker door and mop my meats on the bottom rack. I did buy 2 extra mop head replacements as I didnt know how long the original would last as I use it pretty frequently on the weekends. After about a month the mop is still almost new so I dont anticipate needing to use one of the replacements anytime soon. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an item like this.

Honest reviews on Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Barbecue Sauce Mop with Removable

I got this mop to baste a pork shoulder. The problem is it kept leaving strands of material on the meat, which I had to remove by hand! From now on I'll just spray the sauce on, seems easier.

Oh, and there's no way you can clean this after using it once, it soaks up so much stuff.

Mop head is good but wouldn't purchase again. Mop head has a way of coming unscrewed on its own. Can be dangerous if and when it falls on to hot grill.

I have only used a few of the spices in the kit. I used the poultry seasoning on a turkey breast we smoked in the Big Chief Smoker and then cooked in the oven. My wife who does not trust what I cook or season when I cook told me that her coworkers wanted to know where she got that turky she had brought for lunch. The word was out that my smoked turkey seasoned with the smokehouse poultry seasoning was better than the deli turkey the others had.

My feeling is this. The Smokehouse products have been beyond expectation when it comes to smokers. Their seasoning is the same. You will get more than you ever thought you would. Enjoy. Pat
