Let's be honest. This is not a thousand dollar smoker.
It's meant for and functions for the casual enthusiast.
Workmanship/Craftsmanship/Design
Slight mis-alignment on welds for leg attachments. Could not fully tighten three of the eight leg fasteners.
Although I like the aspect of not being able to fully close the dampers, the fastener design could be much, much better. Tightening the nuts too tightly makes the dampers unusable...too loosely, and nuts drop off into the charcoal.
Usability
The biggest complaint I've seen of smokers in this class is the firebox's clogging with ash.
In the case of the Smoke Hollow smoker, the fire box has a raised grate to allow ash to drop through.
Granted, space restraints don't allow for much of an ash storage volume, but I was able to cook two 10-pound pork shoulders with three full chimney loads of charcoal and two 10-inch x 2-inch hickory logs without a problem.
I compare this to my old barrel smoker where I never could maintain good temps because of ash.
Overall
Despite some workmanship and design flaws, I'd recommend this smoker to anyone...novice or experienced.

Weber 2820 Smokey Mountain Cooker/Smoker Review
The Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM) is really the king of the bullet smokers. You may be tempted to go with a cheaper Brinkmann model, and if your budget just can't afford the WSM, then you can do some prefectly acceptible bbq on the brinkmann.
But if you can afford the extra for the WSM, you will get much better temperature control, and getting good temperature control means you can keep a good consistent low temeperature for doing some truly outstanding smoke cooking.
I am by no means an expert on the subject, only having used my WSM about 10 times. Even so, I have been getting results better than any ribs I have tasted at any restaurant (with the exception of real honest to goodness BBQ joints that cook over hardwood for 12 hours plus...). You can tell real barbecue because it has a pink smoke ring in the meat, which I always get when I use the WSM.
You will want to check on the net for the virtual WSM web page, it has a lot of information, and I found the info there a lot more useful than the methods recommended in the owner's manual.
This cooker is not for the impatient who want instant results, your first few times using it may be frustrating until you learn to control where the temperature is going, not where it is right now. But stick with it and you will start to make some truly great bbq. And understand that you are going to be cooking low and slow, which means it is going to take 4, 5, 6 hours or more to do ribs, but once you get the hang of it, they will be some of the best ribs you have tasted.
More than a fair number of barbecue champions use the WSM get results as good as if not better than those guys using the $1000 plus offset pits. The WSM is a great value and the perfect starter "pit" for someone thinking about getting into serious barbecue.
(You can do yourself a favor by using hickory wood chunks as part of the fuel, and real lump charcoal, not briquettes. Briquettes are nice and all, but they are filled with clay and other impurities, really if you are going to the trouble of using charcoal instead of gas, go with real charcoal if you can find it)
At home in the backyard and on the barbecue competition circuit, the WSM is not the cheapest cooker on the market today, but it's quality and ease of use make it an excellent value. It benefits from the same quality construction, materials, and customer service as all Weber products, and it's superior design makes it very easy to use.
One of the keys to success in creating great barbecue is being able to control the temperature of your cooker. This is critical when cooking "low and slow" barbecue for 10 to 12 hours or longer, for example when making beef brisket or pork shoulder. This is where the WSM really shines! Unlike other cookers, you don't have to babysit the WSM to maintain a low, consistent cooking temperature. A good airtight design and a series of adjustable air vents make precise temperature control and adjustment extremely simple. You control the cooker, it doesn't control you!
Two cooking grates provide the capacity to cook up to 8 slabs of ribs, or two whole briskets, or even six whole chickens! A water pan provides a moist cooking environment for your meats, while directing heat up and around your meat for indirect cooking. A generous charcoal chamber holds many hours of fuel, as well as your favorite smoke wood chunks--like oak, hickory, apple, and cherry--to create that great smoked barbecue flavor.
Assembly is fast and easy, taking only a few minutes with a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench. The WSM also comes with an owner's manual, a premium vinyl cover, and a 10 year limited warranty.
The WSM is a fantastic product that will provide you and your family and friends with years of great barbecue. The quality will be remembered long after the price is forgotten!
The WSM has two cooking sections which allows you to smoke a good amount of food (such as a whole turkey and a whole ham simultaneously). The 18 1/2 inch grates allow plenty of food, but you might have to get a little tricky if you want to smoke something like 8 racks of ribs. This can be done if you roll the ribs up and use a skewer to hold them in place. If you aren't trying to entertain large parties, then this is the perfect family smoker.
The WSM is coated with porcelain enamel, much like the One-Touch kettle grills. The grates are triple-nickel-plated. The WSM is very sturdy. The material is nice and hefty, you don't get the sense that this smoker was cheaply made. One of the only issues I have with this smoker is the access door. Instead of being hinged it comes completely off the smoker. It can take a little bit of figiting to get it to attach to the smoker, but this is an extremely small issue.
The reason people love this smoker is because with a single batch of charcoal you can smoke for an incredibly long time. If you use the minion method then you can smoke for up to 18-20 hours without adding anymore charcoal! For those who aren't aware, the minion method is where you fill the charcoal ring with unlit charcoal, light about 10-15 briquettes and place them on top of the unlit charcoal. Please don't use the minion method with pre-soaked coals. My first smoke was a brisket and for the first 5 hours it stayed exactly at 245 degrees without any adjustments! I thought my thermometer was broken... it wasn't this smoker is incredibly efficient. Another example is the second time I smoked with this. I smoked a 10 lb brisket, started at midnight. It finished 5:00 PM the following day. That's 17 hours right there. I roused the coals a bit and was able to smoke some stuffed jalapenos for another 2 hours. That's 19 hours on a single batch of charcoal! I am very impressed. I have a Brinkman smoker and when I used that smoker I would get about 2 hours of burn time. The WSM is just so much more efficient and has MUCH better air control.
Here are a couple of tips if you plan on buying a WSM (and you should!).
Get a decent enough thermometer, such as a candy thermometer so you can check your temperature at the lid. This will become instrumental in your cooking.
Unfortunately the WSM has a small water pan. What you should do is buy a replacement Brinkmann Smoke N Grill charcoal pan (don't get the water pan, make sure you get the charcoal pan). You can buy one directly from Brinkmann for about $13.00. If you look hard enough you can find them online for around $5.00 $10.00. The Brinkmann charcoal pan fits perfectly inside the WSM as a water pan (some say it fits even better!). It also holds more then double the amount of water then the standard WSM water pan. This allows you about 7-8 hours of cooking before needing to refill the pan, which is much better then the 2-3 you get with the standard water pan. Once your temps stabilize you can easily do overnight cooks and also get some shut-eye!
To conclude I would like to say that if you are even thinking about getting a vertical water smoker then stop looking right now. This smoker is near perfect in every single way. With a few tiny modifications you can own one of the best smokers in the world at this price!
I have had one of these units now for some time and just ordered another. I plan on getting two more for competetion. Most serious q'ers will want to mount a termometer on the lid, and possibly replace the stock waterpan with a larger one if you plan on cooking overnight. Have done brisket, butts, ribs and tri-tip and all came out great with little fuss. We own a large
mobile cooker for large parties but for small Qing this thing works great.
But if you can afford the extra for the WSM, you will get much better temperature control, and getting good temperature control means you can keep a good consistent low temeperature for doing some truly outstanding smoke cooking.

This smoker is becoming the standard of the industry for bullet type smokers. Many competetion bbq teams are winning contests using this simple unit. Approximately 18 years ago I bought a Weber Smokey Mountain smoker and my outdoor cooking experience took a definite turn for the better. I have smoke cook as much as 1 beef brisket, 1 ham and 1 turkey at the same time and all turned out to restaurant perfection. Nothing has ever turned out bad and the comments from people who have eaten the food has always been great, even behind my back. After 18 years when I clean the cooker with oven cleaner it looks like new. I have only replaced the top grill one time and that is a good record considering how many times it has been used. Finding Weber items have not been a problem but I have had trouble finding a Weber cover for it as not many retailers stock them. I have not been able to find them even at this site. But that is a minor inconvience compared to the joy the cooker has brought to me and my family.Wednesday, January 7, 2015
Best 18-Piece BBQ Grill Tool Set with Aluminum Case (Silver) (3"H x 19"W Deals
The quality of the tools themselves is OK, the biggest benefit of the tool collection was that it comes with a full set (8) of corn skewers and a set of kabob skewers, the rest of the set is fairly standard fair although the handle design if more attractive than most. The biggest disappointment with this set was the "Elegant Aluminum Carrying Case", it is aluminum but it very cheaply constructed and didn't even survive being shipped without coming apart in a couple of places, I had to pop the face sheet back into place on both sides since the metal edges that are supposed to hold the face sheet in place are too flimsy to do the job. It simply will not last being used.

My old Big Easy grill is getting pretty old. My flames were sputtering and the left burner had finally died. I thought for sure I'd need to look into a new one, but decided to try replacing the burners. It's cooking like new again! I couldn't be happer. It took about 15 minutes to replace the old burners nice and easy.
The posts on the burners upon which you place the nuts are not threaded. So you cannot simply screw on an ordinary nut. One reviewer on here wrote: "When installing the nuts, if you thread the post using a 5mm x .08 die, available at most hardware stores, you can screw the nuts on no problem." While that is one solution, you shouldn't have to run out to a store to buy a specialty tool in order to put this thing together.
I had previously ordered these burners 5 or 6 years ago from bbqparts.com. However, back then the twin burners came as a set, already assembled with the crossover bar attached to both burners and there was nothing to put together. Apparently, Charbroil stopped providing the twin burner sets that required no assembly and began selling individual burner components that require the customer to put them together. Why they did this makes no sense, but that's what they did.
Anyway, before ordering these burners from Amazon I had gone back to the bbqparts.com website only to find that they no longer carry them. Here's what bbqparts.com website says about why they no longer sell these burners:
"Charbroil has discontinued this burner assembly and it is no longer available from them or us. Charbroil, however, offers the individual components of the assembly burners, nuts, and connector rods as separate parts. We have tried these and found them very difficult to assemble for both us and our customers so we do not offer them. If you want to try that, please contact Charbroil directly to place an order."
So there you have it. A leading BBQ parts supplier will not sell these burner components because of the difficulty getting on the pal nuts. Fortunately, Amazon still carries these parts, and they are also available directly from Charbroil (I checked), but at a significantly higher cost.
Since I had none of the pal nuts left, what I did to secure the crossover bar was to drill out the hole in a small wing nut until it was just slightly larger than the buner post where the connector bar goes. Then I forced the wing nut down onto the post using a hammer and screwdriver. Once the wing nut was all the way down to the bottom I squeezed it tightly onto the post with pliers so that it wouldn't come loose. This seemed to work and from there it only took a few minutes to install the now assembled twin burners into the grill. Everything worked fine and both burners lit as they were supposed to.
I am rating this product only a "2" because in the final analysis I don't like it and it caused me all sorts of wasted time and frustration. The basic point is that customers shouldn't have to go to extraordinary lengths to put these together. The posts that hold the crossover bar should be threaded so that ordinary nuts, not these poor quality pal nuts, can be used.
If you order these burners just know that you might have difficulty with the crossover bar assembly because of the pal nuts issue. If anyone has any other ideas of how to get these nuts on without ruining them, I'd like to hear them.

The burners were by far the best price on Amazon. The installation is easy except for the nut that holds the connecting bar between the burners. This is the worst piece of engineering I've seen in a long while. Fortunately they give you 2 nuts per burner, because you're going to smash 1 per burner trying to get it to fit. Other than that the burners are great.Best Deals for Char-Broil Versaflame "Big Easy" Burner Replacement Kit
Ok, so this is a mixed review. The burners themselves fit perfectly as they are OEM parts provided by Charbroil. The problem that I encountered was in trying to assemble the crossover bar that links two burners together. The so-called "pal" nuts are not your pal. In fact, they are your enemy. They are extremely difficult to install. I was only able to install one of the four pal nuts that came with the two burners I had purchased. The other three were ruined after several attempts at getting them on. They are cheap junk, made in China, and of extremely flimsly design. They are not strong and they smash and mash up way too easily. Whoever designed these was diabolical. The posts on the burners upon which you place the nuts are not threaded. The indirect rack came as advertised, in new condition. I have been using the rack for over one year and it works well. My Kamado is not a Grill Dome, so I knew it possibly might not fit flawlessly. It fits a little bit loose on the Vision Kamado but it works for the purpose intended. A low cost alternative to more expensive Kamado joe or Green Egg heat diffusers.Best Deals for Grill Dome Indirect Cooking Rack
The grill I got was uneven, one leg was at a way different angle than the others, making the rack sit unevenly. the crooked leg looked like it was rewelded on as there was no black paint on the weld joint. Cheap WeatherReady 60-Inch Cart Style Cover
I purchased this cover in April of last year. Just last week, 14 months after purchase, and having spent one winter outdoors in the elements, this cover rips like it is made of paper. Poor quality design. Poor workmanship. I am sorry that amazon offers this product on their site. For this kind of money I would have expected something rugged and durable that would last for 5-10 years minimum. I recommend buying a simple proven tarp and using a bungee cord. You might have to replace the bungee cord every couple of years, but that is much better than having to buy a whole new cover to replace this piece of junk.

We hesitated about spending this much for a grill cover, given the many we have gone through, but since purchasing this one, we haven't needed another since (and we leave it out during the harsh Midwest winters). We have owned this product for about 2 years now and it's still in the same high quality condition as the day we purchased it. We highly recommend this product. Clearly the manufacturer believes their products should be of high quality.Best Deals for WeatherReady 60-Inch Cart Style Cover

This grill will make a believer out of anybody. I love NC style barbecue and used to put up with frustrating results in my Weber kettle. The shoulders turned out good in the Weber, but I was constantly hovering over the grill adjusting vents, adding and taking out coals, and eventually finishing it in the oven. Well, kiss that goodbye. The Bayou Classic Cypress makes it a dream. Easy temperature control and efficient charcoal usage are an understatement. My first cook I had the temp pegged at 250 and it stayed that way with no adjustments. I even left the house for a few hours! If you're a little leary about the price, don't be. This is a huge value over the Big Green Egg and, in my opinion, looks better. If you love low and slow, that alone is worth the price of admission.
I finally purchased it. Lowe's had a free delivery promotion going on, so I had them deliver it to my house the next day. It arrived and I was able to assemble it, by myself, in about 1 hour. I went out and bought some baby back ribs, tri-tip and hot links. I was able to reach a constant temperature of 350 in about 30 minutes. I barbequed the ribs for 31/2 hours indirect cooking, then put the tri-tip on for 4 hours.
Everything came out tender and juicy. I have been online looking at other recipes and I am going to smoke more ribs this weekend. This is a great grill.

I was in my local Lowe's when I saw the Bayou Classic Ceramic Grill. I was initially attracted to the look and the features. When I went home I thoroughly compared the Bayou Classic with other grills in it's class. After reviewing the price and the accessories, I was more than interested in buying it. I read reviews, where some owners complained about the fire box cracking. After reading further reviews, I realized that the older fire box was defective and that they had since changed the design.I finally purchased it. If you are disappointed with hot dogs that only look good on one side, buy a hot dog grill roller. It is much easier to grill them nicely and evenly browned. Especially handy when grilling hamburgs or steaks at the same time. I purchased another brand at the same time as I needed two and both worked great.

This is an excellent way to cook hot dogs on the grill. We had two other grillers similar to this one and since one broke I had to order another one. This one has enough room for 10 hot dogs. Everybody loves to eat hot dogs from this Hot Dog Griller. The Rosewood handle makes it easy to move the hot dogs back and forth.Best Deals for Outset QB51 Large Hotdog Griller with Rosewood Handle
This is a simple product but it does the trick. I know that most kids I've ever barbequed hot dogs for don't like them when they get a little black on the skin from not getting turned over in time. This solves that problem. The first time I used it at a barbeque, I had several people checking it out and how well it worked. I know that a couple of them were going to go home and order one for themselves. I have yet to try this with anything more than a basic hot dog but I expect that it will work just as well from brauts, etc. Simple, yet a great product.Honest reviews on Outset QB51 Large Hotdog Griller with Rosewood Handle
Got this because I was tired of chasing hot dogs all over the grill. This not on holds the dogs, it helps cook them very uniformly. Worth the small investment!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Outset QB51 Large Hotdog Griller with Rosewood Handle
This thing is awesome! My kids won't eat blackened hot dogs and this thing did the trick. Lightly coat with some "Grilling Pam" before cooking for easy cleanup! Too bad they don't roll themselves, HAHA.GrillPro 91070 21-1/2-Inch Round Kettle Cooking Grid Review
Sizing is confusing on these things. When you buy the 22.5 inch Weber replacement grill you actually get a 21.5 inch diameter cooking surface, just like this one. The 22.5 inch measurement is for the grill opening the cooking surface goes into. Given that the Weber grill is 4.7 lbs vs 3 lbs for this one and costs a dollar less, I'm not sure why anyone would buy this one. Add comments if you can come up with a reason!

My daughter has had this expensive Weber for years and it was neglected and left out, but because of the quality only the grill had rusted into. This brought the old Weber back to life and BBQs greatly!Thursday, September 11, 2014
Char-Broil Lava Rock Review
Most of the rocks in the bag are too small and fall through my grill grate, probably won't purchase again.
As a result of purchasing , it is now performing as good as when I purchase it.

I am writing this review in lieu of all of you that HATE big and small lava rocks. Especially those that FALL THRU THE GRATE. I bought these and started to put them on the grill with little ones falling through and then realizing why my husband said when I asked if I could put these in HIS GRILL he said . "go ahead have fun". I didn't know what that meant at the time. I thought I would be able to pour the bag in the grill and wa-la, presto done. Not so!!! And he knew it. Well, for those who read this review and who bake I found the solution. Go to the store and buy a cookie cooling rack the size of the inner side of your grill. I bought one. Put it above the gas burner (on the grate that I would have had to neatly stack these lava rocks on) and poured the bag in. Presto, Done!!!! The cookie sheet squares are only 1/2 x 1/2" if that so even the smallest of the lava rocks would not fall through. I was done in seconds. :-)Best Deals for Char-Broil Lava Rock
My husband loves to have lava rocks in the gas grill. He had attempted to get them at chain hardware stores and couldn't find them. These rocks keeps him happy and me out of the kitchen.Honest reviews on Char-Broil Lava Rock
I was disapointed because one half of the lava rocks were to small. They were pebble size and fell through the grate.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Char-Broil Lava Rock

My ten year old Kenmore grill was perfect on the outside. The stainless was clean. I needed new burners, plus some other internal parts. The burners showed up as promised and fit perfectly and work. Good vender. I refused to spend a thousand dollars to replace the grill. It cost me about 170 dollars total to refurbish, including the other parts. I should get another ten years.

I used to keep my grill in the garage and didn't worry about a cover, recently I moved it out to the deck and did not want it to sit in the elements, this cover fits like a glove, is well made and thick material. the bottom has adjustable velcro so you can tighten it down if you expect high winds (although i never use mine as it fits tight enough without)Best Deals for Stok SGA6020 Island Grill Cover

Grill cover fits perfectly, is easy to put on and take off the grill. It is heavy weight, but not too heavy to use. Keeps the grill accessories dry and the entire grill protected.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Stok SGA6020 Island Grill Cover
Really heavy duty material. Amazing how well it fits. Has a Velcro 'latch' at the bottom to snug it up for wind protection. It was more than I ever paid for a cover, but then again, it's more cover than I ever had before. It you have this BBQ, you need this cover. Excellent!Tuesday, August 5, 2014

Bought this set as a birthday gift for my guy. He loves the whole set. Good weight, very sturdy, washes up well and as far as grilling utensils go-pretty good looking too!

My husband got this set for father's day. It is bigger than I expected and we both love it. The spatula is lightweight but not flimsy and does a great job at flipping those burgers on the grill. The other pieces are great as well.Honest reviews on Mr. Bar-B-Q 3-Piece Oval Stainless Handle Tool Set
