Not quite sure what to use these for since they do not grip any food I have tried to grill! Anything marinaded slides right through the tips of them. The manual lock constantly locks when I didn't want it to...frustrating and a waste of money!

I bought these for my husband's barbecuing. We both like them a lot. They are very heavy duty, have a hanging loop, and the silicone doesn't seem affected by high grilling temps. I like that the silicone is red and won't be stained by barbecue sauce, paprika, and so forth like so many of my things are. They say silicone doesn't stain but I've read reviews saying that it does, so red is a good color for a barbecue tool. They have a lock button which holds firm but if you only have one hand free, you can give it a brisk downward swing and it will unlock and open, which is handy. The quality was even better than I expected.

I was at first excited to get these, after trying to use them, I found them to be worthless to turn bacon, chicken or anything else. I am back to using a pair of plastic tip tongs.

Honest reviews on GrillPro 40279 Silicone Tip Stainless Steel Locking Tong

The locking mechanism is poorly designed. I have used many tongs before and understand the concept of locking the tongs. I pinched my fingers so badly, TWICE, that the second time I threw these in the trash in a rage of pain. I would recommend tongs with a different locking mechanism.

The first one we got had bent up edges like it had been smashed. The 2nd one looked fine from the outside but the inside is really scratched up and you can see really bad weld marks (which don't have to show). It is not insulated which is disappointing--and it sweats on the outside and leaks into our BBQ space. All in all, we have made it work--but it is not the best made ice chest we have seen.

I purchased this cover in April of last year. Just last week, 14 months after purchase, and having spent one winter outdoors in the elements, this cover rips like it is made of paper. Poor quality design. Poor workmanship. I am sorry that amazon offers this product on their site. For this kind of money I would have expected something rugged and durable that would last for 5-10 years minimum. I recommend buying a simple proven tarp and using a bungee cord. You might have to replace the bungee cord every couple of years, but that is much better than having to buy a whole new cover to replace this piece of junk.

We hesitated about spending this much for a grill cover, given the many we have gone through, but since purchasing this one, we haven't needed another since (and we leave it out during the harsh Midwest winters). We have owned this product for about 2 years now and it's still in the same high quality condition as the day we purchased it. We highly recommend this product. Clearly the manufacturer believes their products should be of high quality.

I needed a replacement probe for my Et732 after letting the original get damaged while searing a ribeye over a very very hot fire. Lesson: put the probe in after searing but before the smoking. These work fine and have a nice long cord.

Perfect ribeye steak: Divide your Weber One-Touch into two parts with two fire bricks. Make a very hot lump charcoal fire on one side of the Weber; add a few chunks of your favorite wood. Sear the steak for about 45 seconds per side. Place the steak on the other side of the grill and insert probe; cover grill and smoke indirectly until desired doneness. I like 120 degrees for a nice medium rare.

The beauty of this probe is it will work on either the grill grate (BBQ temperature) OR as the Food probe. It is the ideal "back up" should one of my probes fail (probes can fail from being immersed in water or even a heavy rain storm during the cook). Naturally, I do NOT deliberately immerse my probes but sometimes "helpers" aren't aware of that.

I have not had a chance to use this item even though I have had for a week. Assembly was confusing and according to mfg when my husband called the directions were not correct in the sheet enclosed. The temperature gauge that goes on the hood was not installed or included with the grill, just a hole in the hood. We had to call and one was shipped out but is very loose and doesn't seem to fit properly. We purchased a natural gas and when we tried to install the quick connect and hose assy furnished it would not connect to our outside connection. My husband said it had a defect with the spring and so again we are having to call the manufacturer . The grill we had before this was also a Phoenix natural gas grill . We have had for 10 years and absolutely loved. No problems what so ever. It was the black anodized and was passed on to our daughter and her family. We wanted a stainless steel . I have to admit when we received it I was a litle disappointed because it did not seem as well made as our first, especially for the price that was paid. Our first grill also had hooks on the side to attach utensils and this one does not. You can't always attach cooking tools with only slots to the end of this. So I am going to have to try to locate some hooks to hang there. Also, our first grill hand wheels on one end with locking casters on the other. This one only has the wheels which is hard to manuever because you have to lift one end. When we finally get this to work I am looking forward to the same good food as our first provided, hopefully.

I received the fridge as scheduled. No damage. Proceeded to bring it to my pool area ( totally exposed to the elements) and fill it with some water bottles and of course beer. I set the gauge to max of 6 and as stated in the instructions within 2 hours the water was COLD. BTW it was 90 degrees and very humid. Last night it poured for 3 hours and the fridge is still working great. Today the water is somewhat frozen so I'll back it down to a 4. But so far so good. Very pleased and surprised considering the high heat.

Char-Broil Electric Water Smoker Review

Char-Broil Electric Water Smoker
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars
Buy Now
I've had this smoker for four years now and am generally happy with it.

Pros: Great success smoking baby-back ribs and pork shoulder (for pulled pork). Fairly easy cleanup (see Tips below) and true Lazy-Q (you don't need to do anything other than remove the food if cooking for just three-four hoiurs)

Cons: As previously noted, it can't maintain a hot temperature in windy/cold conditions. The water pan and electric element below it are hard to access once you start cooking. You basically need to remove the food grills to get to the water pan. This isn't necessary when cooking ribs, but a pork shoulder can take up to eight hours. To get to the electric element to add wood chips is a bit easier; you need to lift the entire assembly (food, water pan, and all) off of the base.

Tips:

Well, not much you can do about cooking in cold weather. I may need to try the 'old towel on the top' tip mentioned by another reviewer.

When preparing to cook, fill the water pan up to near the top so you don't need to add water later. Also place enough wood chips near the electric element so you don't need to add more later. I've never had to add wood chips. Also, preheat the smoker without the food grills on to get the wood chips to start smoking.

Place foil over the bottom pan before adding wood chips. This makes cleanup a lot easier especially if grease drips down and misses the water pan. I usually run the foil up the side of the base (inside) to keep that relatively clean.

Don't open the lid! That will release all the heat and delay cooking.

Overall, I think this is a pretty good smoker. I have had no rusting problems though the inside of it gets really grimy after a few cooking sessions.

Others have noted that the Brinkmann electric as an option. That model has an access door to the water pan, lava rocks (maybe that helps to get the wood chips to smoke?), but the heating element does not have a thermostat.

I've owned this smoker for 6 years and have had great success turning out turkeys, pulled pork, ribs, etc.

Couple of tips that took me some time to work out.

1) Cover the water pan with some heavy duty foil after filling it. This'll prevent the liquid from boiling away too quickly. You won't have to refill it during the smoking, and it'll prevent the smoker from getting too "wet" inside. When I left it uncovered, I was getting steamed meat, not smoked.

2) Drill a hole in the bottom of the unit, and get a drip pan underneath it. This'll allow any condensation to drip out rather than collecting in the bottom of the smoker and promoting rust.

3) Get some heavy duty foil beneath the heater element. Makes cleanup much easier, and gets the heat reflected up to the food.

Have fun....

Best Deals for Char-Broil Electric Water Smoker

I have had excellent results with this smoker. Yes it's a cheapie, but used correctly you can get great results.

1. Use a short heavy duty power cord.

2. Don't worry about smoke coming out of the top, it's supposed to.

3. Soak your chips for an hour or so, wrap them in heavy foil, puncture the foil and place it between the electric elements.

4. Fill the water pan with very hot water, not cold.

5. Wind and cold air temps are the enemy. I made a blanket out of a foil covered water heater blanket (cut to size) and used foil tape to seal the edges and bungee cords to hold it in place. It works beautifuly. Cost about ten bucks.

6. Forget the thermometer on the lid, it is useless. For the best results and until you become expert you will need two remote thermometers. One to go in the meat you are smoking, the second one to monitor the smoker temperature. To monitor the smoker temp, stick the probe all the way through the narrow end a raw potato and place it on the top rack. You want to be cooking in the 220 to 230 range. Pay careful attention to both temperatures, reduce or increase the heat as necessary.

7. Let the smoker get hot before you place the food in it. And remember to let the food get to almost room temp before you place it in the smoker.

Follow these tips and you will really enjoy the delicious bbq that this little smoker can make. Hope this helps.

Honest reviews on Char-Broil Electric Water Smoker

I am not really happy with this smoker so far. I know it is not top of the line, and not rocket science. The outside finish seems very durable, but...the paint is peeling off the inside of the lid and inside of the barrel after the first use. I expect it will begin to rust fairly quickly now. Shame on me for not keeping my receipt. I would take it back and buy a different brand.

Furthermore, I am not crazy about the reflector shield, used on the bottom of the unit. Place the wood chips around the element,on the shield and...some of them smolder, some of them don't.

The last model I owned (I think it was a Weber, for over 10 years) used lava rocks surrounding the electric coil. Then spread the chips around the lava rocks. Seemed to work a lot better.

I recently purchased this smoker to smoke a turkey for Thanksgiving. This is the first time that I have used a smoker and I was very impressed with the flavor of the finished product. Before I smoked the Turkey I decided to research the process and any other info I could find on using this smoker. I initially read the reviews that had been posted here on Amazon and I was very concerned. After reading all the info that I could find about the subject I proceeded with caution. Here are the things that I learned and did to ensure that the Thanksgiving Turkey was not ruined:

1. High quality extension cord -basically your typical orange extension cord that you would use with power tools. Do not use the very thin gauge brown or white cords that might be used for an indoor lamp. Also, you should use as short a cord as possible. Another tip would be to plug the extension cord into a higher amp circuit such as in the garage or kitchen.

2. If you are going to smoke a large item such as a Turkey make sure that you use hardwood (Hickory, Mesquite, etc) chunks and not chips. The chunks are larger than chips, somewhere between golf ball size and softball size.

3. If you can, try to purchase a remote Thermometer. This a meat Thermometer that has a probe that you insert into the thickest part of the meat. The probe has a long heat proof cable that plugs into a transmitter. The transmitter broadcast a signal to the receiver which you can keep near you so that you can monitor the temperature the entire time that you are smoking. The receiver also has an alarm.

By using these tips I was able to smoke a 12.6 lb turkey in about 5.5 hours on a very cold and windy day (30 deg at beginning of smoke going up to mid 40s). I initially used the towel on the top trick but realized early on that the smoker was too hot instead of too cold and I ended up having to remove the towel and turn down the heat. My entire family thought that the Turkey was the best that they ever had.

Most of the smoker boxes that I've seen are too small, poorly made, and are for wood chips only. This box is perfect for me since I prefer wood chunks.Even though it's made in India, it's quality is excellent. The top slides on to the bottom and the handle folds over for easy storage.Another positive is that the only holes in the box are on the top. This is perfect for long lasting smoke,no flame-up, just smoldering wood.I use this on a Weber propane grill, resting it on a flavorizer bar with the burner beneath on low.I know this box will last many, many years.

This is a great smoker box!

A few things that stood out to me when I first opened the box:

The thickness of the walls. I was worried it was going to be made from flimsy sheet metal, but I was mistaken. This is a good, study box.

The handle is a useful feature. I didn't really pay any attention to this until I had to move it while I was grilling.

One thing to pay close attention to is the height of the box. This box will not fit under my grate because it's too tall. So if you are looking for a box to sit on the flavor bars, make sure this box will fit your grill. I have been sitting the box on my grate and it is been giving me great results.

My wife bought me this for a Christmas gift. I've been a back yard barbecue fan for many years and have put in the time needed to learn proper fire management and what it takes to turn out good product. I used this cameron steel box smoker according to directions with the two tablespoons of chips and cooked two Omaha steaks with it. The results were terrible as used with the instructions given. Bitter meat and basically, it ruined the steaks.

The concept with this product is flawed right from the start. If you're smoking in an enclosed box with no air flow, you'll get incomplete combustion of the chips, which in turn, produces creosote. Creosote is what produces a bitter flavor on the meat. Poor air flow in any kind of smoker will cause this problem. Any pit master will tell you the same thing. If you live in a northern climate and can't be bothered with setting up your smoker on a snow covered patio deck, you're better off going to your local BBQ restaurant, rather than wasting time with this lazy-que meat ruin-er.

Cheap Bayou Classic 0770-PDQ Leg and Wing Rack

Bayou Classic 0770-PDQ Leg and Wing Rack
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

I haved used this in the oven and on the grill and was pleased with the results. The legs were golden brown, crispy, moist, and delicious. For the oven, I placed the rack on a large jelly roll pan (it's too long to fit in a 13x9 pan) lined with foil. The grease drippings from the legs will generate a lot of smoke inside the oven so the directions say to pour a 1/4 cup of water inside the pan to prevent smoking. I had to do that a couple of times. I sprayed the rack with a little cooking spray before loading it up and cleaning it was easy.

The rack should be used with indirect heat on the grill. I pushed the coals to one side of the grill and was able to use the additional space under the rack and in front of it to grill additional items at the same time. It takes about 30-45 minutes to cook the legs through depending on the size. You can always pull the smaller ones off while the larger one continue to cook. I cooked my first batch in the oven for 45 minutes and even the smaller ones were juicy. The grilled ones were even better since I tossed on a handful of wood chips.

The rack is sturdy and easily supports the legs. I thought they would probably fall off once they shrank a bit from cooking but they didn't. I haven't tried wings on it yet.

This is the original version from Bayou which is made of Stainless Steel. I got the down-grade version in nickel-plated steel at Lowe's for $4.97 works the same plus the rack now could be fold to save storage space. Usually I grill chicken legs and wings at direct heat to increase the cooking speed but the skin is always burned and skull still raw. This rack will enable me to use both indirect or direct heat, minimize energy lost by open the grill cover for constant toss and turn, increase cooking capacity (which is good for party), and foolproof for a crispy outside and tender inside lean chicken legs and wings. I recommend to get 2 of these to optimize the use of your gas grill. Put them on drip pan with some water to reduce smoke, lighten task for cleanup and prevent dryness when use in elec oven.

The spaces between the wires are quite large. So smaller drum sticks will not stay within the wires.

Honest reviews on Bayou Classic 0770-PDQ Leg and Wing Rack

It worked great, and I am a gadget lover, so I found it fun to use as well. The legs were evenly cooked, and not burnt. When placing them directly on the grill rack, I often wouldn't turn them fast enough, thus burning one side of the legs, but with this, you just set them in the slots, let them cook, and in my case, add bbq sauce toward the end of grilling. It's also nice not to have the skin and some of the meat stuck to the grill if you don't turn them enough-this happens invariably in my case. I used a BBQ temp gauge fork Maverick ET-53 BarbBFork Fork Thermometerthat I bought in the same order to check them when I thought they looked done, and indeed they were cooked through perfectly. I used Perdue drumsticks and suffered no casulties due to shrinkage/slippage. I will post some photos of the cooked legs under the product picture above. Happy grilling!

**update** To be fair, and in the interest of full disclosure, yes, I have had one leg that tried to escape. While it did manage to free itself from its leg constraint, it did not manage to get far and ultimately suffered the same fate as its brethren. Just wanted to put that out there as I said in my initial review that I had suffered no "leg slippage".

You'll note on the packaging that there are no photos of wings hanging from the rack even though it is called a "leg and wing rack". Ditto for the manufacturers website.

I'm not sure how you could completely load the racks with 12 wings without them sort of laying on each other sideways. I bought two racks and was able to space out the 18 wings I cooked.

That said, the wings came out the crispy and like fried without being fried, in part thanks to a spritz of pam-type cooking spray.
