Pros:

1. This thing is FAST if you cook on high setting. I had a 4.5lb chicken done in 30 minutes. It will take some experimentation to get the timing just right to allow the skin to brown well as the meat is getting done. For example, the manual says 15 mins/lb for chicken, first half on high, second on low. Don't believe it. You'll probably do better with 15-20 minutes on high and another 10-20 minutes on low on low for a chicken under 5 lbs.

2. The chickens I've cooked so far come out juicy and tender, and very flavorful even with little seasoning.

3. Good value for the price paid, which was nowhere near MSRP.

4. Cleanup is relatively easy so far. Use plenty of cooking spray and don't cook foods with sticky marinade and you'll probably be fine. Dry rubs and injected marinades will work best.

5. Includes skewers for kebabs, hotdogs, etc., and you can also cook roasts, although you'll have a hole down the middle.

Cons:

1. It's hard to get the skin to brown evenly probably due to point two, below. There are three U-shaped heating elements (plus the center element which can be turned off for roasts) which turn on and off in sequence around the sides, and the radiant heat isn't even. I've compensated for this somewhat by manually rotating the chicken once partway through cooking to get a more even browning.

2. It's not a rotisserie, as another reviewer noted, so if you require one, look elsewhere. The heat rotates around the chicken as opposed to the chicken rotating. This means you won't get the same effect of the hot fats moisturizing and crisping on the skin as the chicken rotates. They just drain into the drip pan. The skin still crisps, but it's not quite the same.

3. It's pretty big on the counter.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with this appliance.

As noted by an anonymous or unfortunately named reviewer who believes everyone who disagrees with him is a shill, it can be hard to get the bottom drip pan out cleanly when removing food. This is because the pan fits too tightly around the center heating element. The problem can be avoided by being careful, or possibly widening the opening for the element. It's still four stars for me because it's fast and if you use it correctly, it produces good results.

Ok, with a pair of pliers and a little thought, this thing works much better. I compressed the upper arms of the drip pan that cover the heating element so the separate center heating element cover didn't fit so snugly, and also slightly widened the hole the element passes through in the bottom of the pan. This took maybe ten minutes. Now, when I lift out food using the provided hook, the food and stand lift out, leaving the drip pan in place as intended. Then I can pull the drip pan out separately after it's cooled.

I just cooked a pork loin roast with the center element on (and the oven on High) for about 12 minutes, then off for the rest of the cooking time on low, and it was perfect.

This is not the appliance for you if you want a "set and forget" oven, but it's fast and it will do a good job if your experience in cooking goes beyond the microwave.

This is my 4th type of rotisserie and I think I prefer it to the others that I have owned. You need to remember to reduce the heat when you're fixing chicken. I forgot and it came out to dry, so I made soup. I would purchase it again. There is no rotation, therefore it is very quiet.

This product sits pretty large on the kitchen counter. My chicken did not cook as fast as everyone claimed (30 mins). I had a 4 lbs chicken and it took a little over 1.5 hour on high to cook fully. I think two things this item can improve on are: 1) it doesn't rotate so it shouldn't called it a rotisserie. 2) there are 3 heat wires that only 2 gets turn on at one time. It switches and the other 2 gets turned on. What ended up happening is that for whatever reasons, the chicken doesn't cooked evenly. I've tried it twice and I still haven't managed to master this yet.

Overall, I do like this product. I like the fact that I can add different seasoning, push a button or two and let it cook.

This is just useless smokes and burns. Had to open the windows and doors for ventilation. Will not refer this item to no one.....hard to clean and messy. waste of money.

These pipes "should" have fit my grill but they didn't. According to all the information and manuals I could find online this was the correct pipe. After I removed the old ones that is when I discovered these are slightly longer and do not fit. The tubes I had are 15 5/16" long. My advice to anyone trying to fix their grill is to verify the length with a tape measure first. Do not trust online documentation. I didn't and now I must suffer a return. :(

Bummed that the burners on my Charmglow blew out in 4 years. My old Char Broil made it for a decade without needing to be replaced. That being said, these are cheap, and a drop in fit. Like a glove! If your grill is like mine, you'll have to drill out the old screws due to corrosion, and use new stainless (NOT ZINC fumes in a hot environment that are probably not good for you or your food) machine screws and done. Works just like the factory ones.

You may have to adjust the air venturi if your ignitor isn't lighting them. I recommend testing that before screwing them in to make sure it's adjusted correctly. From the factory mine weren't set 100% perfect so wasn't getting quite as much heat as the old ones. If you open them up too much the ignitor won't light them.

Makes my little Gold 18.5" Weber Kettle a mini-smoker. I already have the Weber charcoal rails for indirect smoking, but this works better. It allows you to smoke more meat because all the coals are on one side. Be careful that Smokenator is well latched on the grate supports, or it will dump over.

Absolutely love this thing. Smoked pork butts, ribs, loins, briskets, and chickens already and all turned out to be the best I have ever eaten. Nice not having to have a dedicated smoker on top of all the other grills I have. Only mistake I made was I should have bought the larger size grill.

Little tough to get the temp up to 325 for chicken. In reality I should have just upgraded to the larger size Weber and got the bigger smokenator. That said, this item is awesome, fun to use, works great. It's extremely simple and if I had any clue how to cut and bend sheet metal I'd simply make it myself. Given, I feel like the item is a little overpriced, but it does a great job and I can't complain when a product meets my needs and I'm left with great tasting bbq.

I travel for a living and have limited space in my RV to store non-essenital items. I certainly don't have room for a full size smoker. I do however, have room for a Weber 18" Kettle. This smokenator transformed my kettle! I have done a couple of smokes so far and this little gadget works great! I made the best salmon I have ever had.

Most people find by experience or warnings on other reviews that the water pan is small and requires a lot of attention. The Excellente Jam pan is recommended. However, if you have the 18" Weber the 4 inch deep jam pan will be too high to allow your lid to close. The way to remedy this is to put the pan on the lower coal grate next to the smokenator. Some people, however, like to cook on that lower grate. The two inch deep jam pan works perfect for the 18" Weber. It can sit on the top grate and will still allow the lid to close.

Some forums have suggested that fire bricks will do just as good of job. I don't know about that but I do know this item works perfectly. It isn't heavy like bricks, leaves more room for cooking area, is easier to store than bricks, and from what I have read it doesn't take as long to heat up as bricks. This is important to get a steady temp going in a shorter period of time.

When I finally get home I am getting another one for my 22" Weber!

Highly recommended.

I used a bore and installed this on my Weber kettle grill. It installs easily, looks good and works well.

The temperature readings are very accurate. I use this thermometer for smoking and allows me to keep the lid on to maintain a very consistant temperature. Since it's installed directly on the lid, I don't have it poking through the top vent, restricting my ability to adjust the lid vent.

It's got a short probe so it doesn't interfere with larger pieces of meat either.

I would definitely recommend.

I was tired of buying a disposable grill every three or four years and I was tired of running out of propane in the middle of the burn. So I went hunting for the best all-stainless natural gas portable out there, and I think I found it. For starters, the parent company, Onward Manufacturing, has been around about as long as me and has grown and morphed into one of the major contenders. They make and distribute other brands including Weber, but the Imperial line is the hands-down winner based an cost and features. And they're made in America.

Everything except the cart box is solid stainless, including the double layer hood, the burners, reflectors and grates. It comes partially knocked down but is easily assembled with a #3 philips in about an hour. The instructions are all pictographic, so you don't need a degree in engineering to understand them. It comes complete with a back burner and rotisserie (both easily removed), three large drawers and even interior lights. The natural gas flex line and connections fittings are also included. I really don't think you'll find such a complete package until you approach the $2,000 range.

My first few uses have been modest in scope, but the performance seems fine. There's a little front/back heat difference, but that's pretty common. The heat retention with the hood closed is impressive. The rotiserie roasts low and slow as you'd hope. Two large chickens took about an hour and were eavenly done.

The $50 cover is worth the price, custom fit and heavy duty.

I decided on this grill after looking at several other bbq grills in the 400-600 dollar range. What I came to discover is that all of the grills in that price range are essentially low quality and I wanted something that would last me a long time so that meant I was going to spend more money which I was ok with. I looked at Weber, Napoleon, and Broil King. From what I could tell, all were of exceptional quality. I felt that the Broil King Imperial 490 offered the most features for the money. It came with very nice built in hood lights and a great rotisserie kit. Plus the company has been in business for 20+ years and is built in North America (which was important to me). Overall I am very happy with the quality of the grill. It came almost completely assembled and only took me a short time to install the side tables and wheels. I highly recommend this bbq for anyone who is looking to make the jump from an entry level grill to something better. Like the other review, I did notice some difference in cooking temp from the front to back but nothing major. The ignition system and burner controls are the best I have seen yet. Lots of storage and nice thick heavy duty stainless steel cooking grates and internal baffles. This one should last me a long time!

Bought this grill to replace an 8 year old Members Mark stainless grill from Sams Club whose non stainless parts ( the burners) rusted out beyond repair. I spent about the same money for these grills. The cabinent on the Broil King is not sturdy or rigid and twists or warps enough for the drawers and doors to be obviouly out of alignment if it is not sitting on a perfectly smooth even surface. My grilling patio is brick pavers. I contacted the manufacturer and their solution was to send me what was supposed to be sturdier wheels for the unit. They are the exact same wheels that came with the original. The cabinent is simply not sturdy enough for the high dollar cost in my opinion. It borders on flimsy and if were not such a major pain to disassemble and repackage for return I would have done so. So far the grill gets good and hot but the anti flare up technology did not stop a flame up under a nice porterhouse. Don't walk away thinking your grill is impervious from turning your food to charcoal.

Did my homework on this product and ordered thru Amazon and one of their suppliers for the grill. Problem was with the spec's offered on the website and there was no way to ask a question before ordering a $1400 grill. The order was placed and unfortunatly the wording on the site for the grill allowed me to order the wrong model (Not propane) natural gas instead. After receiving the unit and realizing it was the wrong gas supply type I contacted the "middleman" and was told that there was nothing they could do to help. They offered me the idea to try and sell the grill myself! They also admitted that the wording and opportunity to ask a question about product before ordering was nonexistent. Thankfully the manufacturer will sell me the conversion kit at cost and I have to convert myself. Think twice before using these "deals" on Amazon.

My only complaint, which is relatively minor, is that I have accidentally pushed one of the buttons on the face while I was carrying it, and it lost its setting (eg rather than cooking Beef, it thought I was cooking Chicken). I have learned to lay it on a countertop rather than carry it, and then it works fine. Ideally, you would be able to lock the input buttons so you can actually carry the device or clip it to a belt as intended. But other than that minor complaint, it has been a joy to use, and the results are better than any other meat thermometer I have used.

I have used it a number of times. On one occasion it would not show a reading despite every attempt to restart or reset the unit. On all of the other occasions where it did work, it worked fine. "Wireless" is not exactly accurate. As are all other "wireless" thermometers, the probe that is inserted into the meat is connected by a cable to a base unit. The wireless connection is between the base unit and the portable unit that provides the readout.

My friend had a similar device and I was quite jealous of him. After doing some looking around I found they tend to go for anywhere from $40-80. I ran into this one for $25 and figured I would give it a shot.

So far works great, have use it with steaks, tenderloins, burgers and chicken. With the first few uses I verified the temp readings of this with my standard thermometer and everything was within about a degree or so.

I did not find that using this for quicker cooking meats like burgers was really helpful at all but when it comes to the longer things like tenderloins it's wonderful!

Easy to set up and get going, it even came with the batteries required to operate it! Cant ask for much more than that!

First, the instructions come on a small piece of paper that is extremely hard to read. The company has told me that they will put a PDF on their website so it can be blown up.

Second, I went to the manufacturer's website and there was no help there for the thermometer. After our discussion, they have assured me that they will adding a Q&A section to help.

Third, The first time I used it the thermometer was off by over 20 degrees, after talking with the owner of the company that the unit was defective, sometimes that happens. They are sending me a replacement at no cost. No one can be 100% perfect, but as long as they make good I am happy.

Even though it took a few hours for the company to contact me, I was very happy with the resolution and the owner was very interested in my feedback and willing to make adjustments to the website.

Honestly, I have yet to try it for the grill. I can say, however, it does not work for a smoker, as the temperatures reached into the upper 300s (after only 15 min of cooking) and my smoker only reaches a temperature of 225 degrees F.

I have tried this product in my crockpot, and it worked fine. I have no ideas why it would not function for the smoker, and I did not try to contact the company. For $21, I do not feel as though I am at a loss....

I have had one of these for a couple years now. Bought it from cabela's on sale for around $150 or 180 if my memory serves me. You definitely need to start off with recipes or guidelines to know how long to smoke and cook various items. Everything starts off great and only improves from there as you continually learn how to use it. I've made awesome, fall off the bone, dry rubbed ribs. I've smoked trout, with excellent results. i have plans to make jerky in the near future, apparently these dehydrate meats quite well too (or so i've read). This model can be quite difficult to control on cool or windy days. i have a wireless, dual probe, smoker thermometer which helps. I'm thinking of investing in an Auber temperature controller for it (which is apparently MUCH better than the controller in the "digital" smoker).

This is the newer model S670 #2780301. The previous model was 2780001 so check the number before ordering. I was planning on the smaller s470 but Northline express had a sale on the s670 for about the same price, so I jumped on it. It arrived by freight (free shipping) and the driver rolled it into my garage by himself with a special dolly. Plan on 2 or more people to help move it. My son and I moved it about 5 feet at a time working towards my backyard.

It came well packaged and completely assembled except for the 2 side wings. A few screws and you're done. They recommend a 20# propane tank but I'm looking for 30-40# because if you use all the burners the propane disappears fast, so have a spare ready. I thought the gimmicky knob and grill lights would be useless, but now I find them very helpful at dusk and night. They're useful gimmicks! The hide away rotisserie motor is another nice touch. It frees up shelf space when not in use and you don't have to attach and unattach it when needed. You just pull a tab and there it is ready to use.

I don't want to drag this out but I've used all of the grills functions and the results are excellent. It's expensive but worth it. I would assume the s470 is just as good for less. Look for overstock and other sales. I think I got a great deal. Good luck!

Oh! There's a newer cover for it also 7555 with side vents instead of the front and rear vents that leaked water into the grease tray.

So we were going to build an outdoor kitchen, in the end the 15K gave us pause. We still wanted a new great grill. This grill is it. I like everything about it. I have grilled steaks, seafood, chicken, vegetables and they all turn out outstanding. The searing station is terrific. I really like the built in smoker. I put some chips in every time I grill. For real smoking I use my weber smokey mountain smoker. However, this adds some nice flavor.

The only thing I have not tried is the rotisserie. Another great feature is all the burners giving you tons of flexibility. We grill every night I am home so this really is how we cook.

The grill comes almost entirely put together. You will be grilling in no time. Other items to get: cover, weber pizza stones (makes some awesome pizza) crisp crust with a hint of smoky flavor.

I bought this not-so-cheap grill over my wife's objection because I grew tired of cleaning up the charcoal and squeezing the food onto my previous charcoal kettle grill. And if I was to going to give up on charcoal, I wanted to go first class. So far, it's met all my expectations, and more. My wife even quit complaining about the cost. It's clean, cooks evenly, heats up in a flash, and is extremely versatile. We've pretty much quit using the in-house cook top. One complaint: My plan was to hook the grill up to our house propane tank, having purposely plumbed the propane line right onto our rear deck. The easy-to-follow instructions for setting up the grill, however, don't allow for this option. In fact, the gas line provided with the grill is specifically constructed to make it impossible to hook up to anything other than a portable propane canister. It took me multiple trips to the hardware store, wasted money on parts I never used, and the expensive advice of a plumber, to finally hook up to our house propane. Now that it's done, it works great. But Weber, with a little thought, could have taken a lot of the pain out of this procedure.

Love this grill. Bought it as a surprise gift for my boyfriend and so far it's perfect. I love the handle lights and I don't think they're gimmicky. It's very useful on our deck when we grill at night because we grill year round.

I don't see any openings where any rainwater could get in so I think that whatever design flaw may have caused that problem has been resolved. I also ordered a cover because why wouldn't I cover it, right? It's an investment that I expect to have for a lot of years.

We plan to put new burners and flavorizer bars into his old Weber Genesis Silver and pass it on to his daughter. That's a pretty good indication of Weber's quality.

Putting it together was very easy, it's mostly already assembled. We got the inside delivery because it was going onto an upstairs deck. Delivery was great, no problems.

My boyfriend says he feels guilty when he uses it. OK, that wasn't my intent to make him feel guilty but as long as it makes him smile it's worth it.

I love my Weber Summit grill unconditionally. However, this cover is a true disappointment. It fit the grill perfectly for the first 2 years. After starting the 3rd grilling season, I noticed that it had shrunk significantly and does not fit the grill anymore. Yes very strange, the cover has remained intact, like the day it was purchased. It just doesn't fit anymore and I am afraid it will tear trying to pull it tightly over the unit. I checked with Weber as I am not interested in another $50+ outlay to replace the cover. They stated the cover is only warranted for 2 years and won't issue a replacement. Based on my experience, I would not recommend buying this cover.

Purchased Weber grill cover 2 1/2 years ago to replace a an original weber cover lost during a thunderstorm. It will no longer fits my grill. Customer service says we should keep the grill out of the sun. I have had the weber grill for eight years and the first cover lasted over five years and always fit as if it were new. The repalcement (same part number) is unusable. STAY AWAY FROM WEBER COVERS. I have always had a weber grill, but this may be the last one.

This is a genuine Weber cover and fits the specific grill, perfectly. It is an excellent product for the following reasons:

1. It remains pliable/supple even in cold weather

2. Exact/proper fit

3. Has a vent system to avoid condensation under the cover

4. It has lasted several years without any signs of hardening, tearing or fading. It is very UV resistant

5. Has velcro tabs at the bottom to form a tight fitting skirt in case of high wind conditions

Well, it might not have 101 obvious uses, but given some time I bet I can come up with a few dozen tasks this little baby is perfect for. I bought it primarily for use in the kitchen, as I was lacking a method of checking the surface temperature of my frying surfaces on the stovetop. Stovetops are not precision controlled, and high on one may be medium on another, depending on if its an open flame, glass/ceramic enclosed electric element, or raised element. Now I can put my favorite pans on the stove on medium, and watch how long each one takes to get to certain key temperatures for optimal cooking. I use this primarily when shallow frying items, opposed to deep frying. The temperature is off a little between the top surface of the oil and the bottom, but overall its an accurate way to fry small items you'll need to flip once, like a pan of good ol' fried chicken wings, fries, or perogies.

Its also great if you have an electric griddle and want to regulate the temperature, or check the temperature compared to the built in thermostat. Shine the lazer in your oven aimed at the back wall where you'd normally install an oven thermometer, right upon opening the door so you don't let much heat out. This is also good for the grill to check how hot your coals are, and to even see how well your air conditioner is working. When I am cooking, I'll frequently shine the lazer on my outside and inside walls around me to see the average temperature in the room. of course, the outside walls are a degree or two cooler at night, and warmer during the day. :)

The price is *very* right for this item. other similar products cost $150+. I've only had this thermometer for a few weeks now, but I use it daily and it's worked well sofar. I'd reccomend it highly as a household gadget that might surprise you one day by letting you solve a problem you normally wouldn't have a tool for. :)

This has really made a difference in the kitchen, believe it or not. I've found that I've not let the saute pans heat up to the right temperature before throwing in the food. No more guessing. It's also handy around the house. It's accurate from many feet away. I've given this as a gift now to two people, and they've had similar fun and usefulness with it.

Purchased the Maverick Laser Surface Thermometer to chart water temperatures for a residential "pump and dump" Water Furnace heat pump. It worked fine for about five months, then started showing obviously erroneous readings. Changed to new batteries, but no improvement. This gadget has never been dropped, exposed to extreme temperatures, or abused in any way. The 90-day warranty is past, so no help there.

I purchased this AND another "Kintrex IRT0421 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer with Laser Targeting" at the same thime.

This Maverick felt solid and gave a good reading at room temperature.

The Kintrex was 10 degrees low (room temp items read 65 degrees and the temperature should have been closer to 74 degrees,

Also the Kintrex had a defective battery cover. It would not close shut due to bad design.

I returned the Kintrex

To the vendor's credit, this shipped out immediately though I would have liked a faster shipping option. I haven't used this set of wood yet but they were all uniform 1.5 2" cubes. Fist sized would be preferable, so we'll see how these do.

These were almost perfect fitting parts, the fit was about 1/8 inch to short. I made a spacer and it works just fine they were just what I needed to preserve my awesome jenn air grill and allow me to rebuild it.
