Brinly Manual Lawn Roller
Several years ago, we hired a landscaper to remake our lawn. They used roto-tillers to churn up the existing lawn, then covered it with several tons of top soil, leveling the soil with rakes. They were to come back in a couple of days to lay sod, but I was worried that the churned up soil would be too soft to work well. So, I bought one of these rollers at Home Depot, filled it with water and rolled it over every inch of the front "lawn" numerous times. It mashed the entire surface down pretty well. The only thing better would have been a larger & heavier roller pulled by a tractor. However, because the lawn has some mild inclines, I wouldn't have been able to push or pull anything much heavier than this roller. (I'm 6/4 and weigh 270). It's pretty easy to roll over level ground, but it doesn't take much of an incline to become difficult. I only used the roller for an afternoon, but it paid for itself with that one job, because the lawn turned out great.
For storage, the handle removes easily, and once the water is drained, it's not very heavy.

So fired. I struggled with the thing mightily, and could not get it to thread. I even tried shaving down the male threads, but no way would it go in straight, even once, much less on and off in normal use.
I finally gave up, ground the entire plug down to a cylinder, drilled a hole in the cap to accept a plastic male hose fitting, pounded the cap into the hole inverted and cut off the excess. I now have a recessed hose nipple that I can screw a cap over, just like it should have had in the first place.
The other future problem I see is the plastic bearings, which would not hold up over time. Granted, I'm only going to use this a few times, so who cares, but a little more thought in the design would have been welcome. What do sealed ball bearings cost wholesale? I found one for $2.33, retail.
Other than that, it's fine, but why wouldn't a few pieces of metal and plastic be fine? The only parts that matter they messed up. Oh, and the bolts around the handle are too long, I'm sure I'll be snagging something on those, but I can cut them off and grind them smooth easily enough the first time I get mad at them.

the roller is easy to assemble, other than the plug, which is made of plastic and difficult to line up and screw on. Channel grip pliers are required to tighten. I purchased for rolling a bocce court but due to the configuration of the handles connected on the sides with the nuts protruding you can not roll the edges of the court.

Every home improvement store I contacted didn't have any in stock ..because it is "seasonal" item, but could be ordered, with delivery within 2 weeks. So I turned to Amazon and of course there it was. Got it faster and cheaper. Works like I was expecting it to. Easy to attach to lawn tractor, compacts the ruts, packs down the soil, easy to store, Overall very satisfied.

The unit was easy to assemble and seems pretty durable. It is easy enough to push (small hills may be a challenge) on the lawn and flattens nicely. Storing in the shed should be easy because it is light enough when empty to hang. I have not had any problems with the barrel getting out of shape when water was left in it for a while. Nice product.
