Gets The Job Done

The cover for my Char-Broil Urban 340 was an eye opener. Little of the other reviews could be accradited to this supperbed cover. With that in mind; nothing is perfect. So, here is some of the things that could be added or replaced in the next generation cover. First, it should be about four inches longer to cover the bottom part of the grill. Second, the straps should be longer and thicker; and more structural friendly than the ones in this model. Third, the cover fit should be more structural friendly so it will fit to the grill like it belong to it not an after thought.

I was leery after reading earlier reviews of an upside down logo, and a too short cover leaving the bottom area open to the elements.

But the mfgr. assured me corrections had been made and voila---I can read "Char Broil" easily and no mini skirt. Best of all, rain today (May 15,'11) hasn't touched any part of the frame.

A quality cover, priced right, and quickly delivered. All in all, a great deal from Amazon.

Lots of people complain about this being too short for the CharBroil InfraRed from Home Depot. This cover was designed to fit the Quantum, so it isn't perfect, but gets the job done. To make sure the bottom of my InfraRed was covered, I cut off the velcro straps that cinch the sides tight against the grill, and just let the edges hang. It then looks EXACTLY like pictured in the top-left of this page -with the bottom 1" to 1/2" showing. This is perfectly adequate to protect the grill, and has never flown off, even in extremely windy conditions.

I have noticed that it has started letting water in though. The material seems to be holding up fine, but it is no longer repelling water. I'll have to spray it with some sealer to make it last. It just seems silly that it is leaking after only 7 months. Regardless, it is better than nothing.

It lets you cook at a higher heat, very easily, this is great for thick steaks. So this kind of cooking lets you cook at higher temps. But be careful. If you are smoking your food, you do not want to this grate, you need to go back to the solid iron grate with holes.

After 10 years the iron charcoal grate on my medium size egg split badly enough that charcoal fell through. I bought this as a replacement because it sounded like it might be an upgrade.

It should be noted that the description on amazon sounds like this an official BGE product. It isn't. It has a slightly smaller diameter than the original and a traditional grate like a weber. This means that It varies the heating characteristics of the egg. That may not be all bad, but be prepared to tinker with your usual arrangement. If you don't want to do that, stick with the egg grate.

The small grate itself appears to be high quality and costs a little less than an original BGE replacement. Whether it is an "upgrade" remains to be seen.

In the spring when grill accessories come back, I intend to get a slightly bigger one to bring the coals closer to the cooking surface.

Always wanted a food umbrella I hate flies. had this one in my basket for months before deciding on purchasing. The umbrella does not lay flat on the table when in use, there are spaces on each side between the table and the umbrella...therefore flies can get in. To use I actually have to lay down two table towels, put the food in dish to the centre of the towels, cover with the umbrella, then fold the towels back onto the umbrella sides to cover the spaces on either side (4).

I bought these nets to keep off the swarm of fruit flies that appear everytime I bring a piece of fruit into the house. These work pretty well. My only slight complaint is the fabric is pulled so tightly over the frame that the fabric curls up slightly at the bottom and the odd crafty Drosophila has made it in. However, as fruit flies are not known for their intellectual prowess, this has not been too much of a problem and generally has kept out 95% of the flies.

So we have only had this cover for what ... 3 months ... and the decal is almost completely off now ... it started around the 3rd week of having it and just continues to flake off.

Still the cover material is great but if I wanted a plane grill cover I would have bought one for LESS ..I have pictures to post when it first started happening

I dont usually write reviews, but I had to defend this product. I have this sensor controlling 3 12v 100watt LED flood lights. The power rating for this sensor is low (for whatever reason). The other two folks that reviewed this product have exceeded the load rating which has fused the internal relay closed. If you buy this sensor, count on using an external 12v relay to handle the load and use the sensor to trigger the external relay only. If you do this it will operate flawlessly. I am buying 2 more of these right now.

I bought one of these and it failed after about 1 month. Lights come on and stay on all the time.

You reset it, once it's triggered, the lights stay on and drain the battery.

About 1 year later, i though maybe they updated it, so I bought another. They were the only 12V model I could find. Same thing again. Works for a while then the lights stay on and drain the battery.

Battery is 114 AH, fully charged by solar and monitored. Battery disconnects automatically if it gets to 9 volts. Why am I saying this? Nothing wrong with my system. These 12V sensor simply do not work.

I have the same experience as the previous customer.

These fit my ancient Webber Grill perfectly, replacing the burned-out, rusted older ones have replaced years ago. There's still quite a lot of flare up as these have not yet been coated with food yet. But the flareup is handled easily by cooking on low heat for the most part.

The flavorizer bars on my Genesis Silver A grill had pretty much disintegrated after about 10 years of use and as I was overhauling my grill with new igniter and burner tubes, finally replaced the flavorizer bars. Of course they are easy to install since they just drop in underneath the cooking grates. With the installation of the new igniter, burner tubes, flavorizer bars, and porcelain enameled cooking grates, my grill is as good as new! This is genuine Weber part and was cheaper than buying direct from Weber.

I own a Genesis Silver A (the smaller model) and if you do too then you're at the right place for replacement Flavorizer Bars. The B & C (larger) model replacement bars are at this link. The ones that came with the grill (sheesh...like 7 years ago now?) finally deteriorated to the point of disintegration at the center of two of the bars. These replacement bars practically make my relatively old grill as good as new again.

And if you haven't already, you should also grab some replacement grates for your grill. Not the porcelain ones though; go with the stainless steel grates. The Genesis Silver A replacement stainless steel grates should have come with the grill; unfortunately, the grill came with the porcelain grates which I should have replaced the same day I got the grill 7 years ago (I replaced the grates in 2010 and there's a dramatically improved difference). The stainless steel grates work much better because the heat is more evenly distributed, and they're just a more solid product.

There's not much more that can be said about Flavorizer Bars and cooking grates, so let me tell you a few things that I do to make my Weber work best for me.

-Most importantly...keep it covered. Amazon sells a cover...get it. Not coving it will cut its life in half at least.

-Cover the funnel shaped grease drip pan with tin foil and change it regularly; otherwise build-up in the trap can catch fire and THAT does not make a steak taste very good.

-Change the disposable grease traps regularly (otherwise they start to stink).

-Get yourself a quality wire brush and use it before each use...NOT after. The build-up on the cooking grates after each use actually protects them from the elements.

-Before each use, after you wire brush the grates, put some cooking oil on some paper towels and wipe the grates down.

-Pre-heat the grill on high for at least 5 10 minutes; it burns off anything left over from the cleaning and makes the cooking grates nice and hot.

-Initiate cooking steaks, chops, any cuts of meat (even burgers...no, not hot dogs) on just-over-medium heat for 2 minutes on each side and flip before cooking to your liking. This brief searing of each side locks in the flavor of your cut of meat.

-Cook with a closed cover; normal cuts of meat shouldn't take more than a total of 10 minutes (including the searing).

-Let your meat sit for up to 5 minutes before slicing (or biting into it!). This locks in the juices; if the juices are too hot when you slice (or bite), they'll run right out of your cut of meat.

There you go. Hope that helps. And don't forget to cover the grill after it cools. Bon appetit!

Magma grills use the lower cost 304 stainless vs the better 316 stainless. If you have a boat on salt water, you must get 316 stainless as 304 does not resist rust very well from salt. I've had two Magmas and the both are covered in surface rust within 6 months. This is not an exaggeration. In addition, the "special" Magma grill cleaner, does not remove much of the surface rust and is very hard to use. It takes a lot of elbow grease. If your on salt water, don't buy a Magma grill or you'll be sorry!

304 vs 316 stainless What's the difference? The simple answer is 304 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel while 316 contains 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum. The molybdenum is added to help resist corrosion to chlorides (like sea water and de-icing salts).
