I tried many different grills in the last years, but this is really the best one.It`s not cheap, but I think it lasts forever. Most of the Material is stainless steel. It`s easy to assemble and everything fits good together.

There are many possibilities to use this grill. But you have to buy the rotisserie set to make it perfect.

I like to make chicken or a whole turkey on the rotisserie.

I've had this grill for about two months now and it's been a mixed experience. First the good. This is a high quality, very nice looking grill. It's solidly constructed, and they don't skimp on the stainless steel. The handle which raises and lowers the charcoal bed is easy to use and secure. The removable ash tray is very convenient when cleaning.

Now the bad. My first requirement for a charcoal grill is that when you close the cover and close the vent the airflow should at least decrease enough to stop any flares. Not so with this grill. I can put the cover on, close up the vent control and there's still enough oxygen to support a continuous, roaring fire inside. So I've had to be very careful to avoid flare-ups. I'm looking to see if there's anything that can be done to tighten it up but until then I'd recommend this only with reservations.

I'm a born and bred South African and was taught at a very young age how to Braai (BBQ for those of you who don't know Afrikaans).

Over the years I've had the pleasure of using, owning and in some cases making my own BBQ's.

Now I am the proud owner of the Rolls Royce of BBQ's, the Napoleon Mirage M605RBCSS-1.

This is the Starship Enterprise of the charcoal BBQ's.

It is made of high quality stainless steel and fits together very well. (NO swearing or the use of BIG hammers is required for assembling). The bottom half (Stand) unfortunately is not stainless steel but it is still of high quality metal and finished to perfection.

The hood is well balanced and big enough to be used as a large oven with a stainless steel ACCU-PROBE(tm) temperature gauge. Open the hood and you have three very well made Porcelainized cast iron WAVE(tm) reversible channel cooking grids. For those trademark Napoleon sear lines. A warming rack is fitted at the top and works well at keeping meat warm and a good place to rest you steaks before you chomp into them.

The charcoal bed has six adjustable setting by means of a handle on the right and a very convenient and unique charcoal door to add charcoal to your fire while cooking. The heavy duty shelves either side of the BBQ come in really handy for putting your condiments on.

Behind the stainless steel doors is a large storage area where you will find the ash collection tray hidden at the top of it, making this the easiest BBQ to clean. The vents situated at the top of the doors make it easy to control the temperature although I do think that this can be improved a little.

The rotisserie is a great addition and completes the BBQ. Although the rotisserie charcoal rack could have been designed a lot better. Feeding it with charcoal can be a bit awkward.

Every time I walk onto my patio and look at my BBQ I smile, it's like having a Ferrari parked on your drive.

Poor Quality Control for this price point. I'm having to grind the cooking grates in order for them to both fit and be easily removable. It's no Hasty Bake. Additionally, after 1 night outside, you can't put the cover on until its completely cooled, the hood and side tables are covered in rust.

I have had this smoker for over 3 years now. This is a good intro to smoking and will give you an idea of smoking without spending a ton of money. Kingsford has a new high heat charcoal that works great in this smoker. Otherwise, I tended to have temperature problems, tended to be on the low side. The charcoal pan does not have any holes in it so the ash builds up and chokes out the charcoal. I used the new Kingsford charcoal with better results. One tip, don't take the lid off until you are done cooking. Otherwise, all the heat leaves the smoker and takes time to build up again. Adding new coals and water is kind of a pain because of the size and location of the door. Otherwise, I have had really good results.

Item is a Cheep Smoker/Grill mass produced in china, the stickers on the bottom of it that say "Made in China" will verify that fact, however, if you know what your doing you can smoke meat on anything, Now the Question "DOES IT WORK" Yes it does and for $39.99 you cannot go wrong!!!!

1. If you read the instructions you will be all set!!!!!

2. After its assembled you have to Cure/Season it for two hours and let it completely cool before use, Don't Use Lighter Fluid when doing this!!!

3. The Lid is not ment to fit snug it has to have a release area for the smoke, heat rises so the smoke will billow in the lid, don't be alarmed its not all escaping the grill!!!

4. I didn't like the Warm/Ideal/Hot Temperature gauge so I swapped it for one that measures temperature and used a tiny bit of HVAC Foil Tape to ensure a snug fit.

5. Drilled Five 3/4 inch holes in a dice like pattern on flat bottom of porcelain charcoal pan so it could breath a bit to keep those coals hot and it works 100%....

For the price you cant go wrong at all, works great for a $39 smoker (WalMart Price) and I'm completely pleased with it, you don't like the quality of the build then get the brinkmann 2 door upright box smoker for $69, its a black powder coat smoker higher end and if I had the extra cash I would have went that route.

Was using a Kingsford Charcoal grill to indirect grill and smoke meats, but that's hard to keep lit because there is no access door, so pushing wood chips thru the grates to keep it going is it.. Bought this to smoke with, and it does smoke well, but there is no vent control. It seems the venting is about perfect to keep it at the ideal temp under perfect conditions. add some wind and stoke the fire a little, and the temp comes up above where it should, but it also cannot be brought back up quick if the temps drop due to needing coal or wood

We didn't know the dents were there till we cut open the boxes & pulled the pieces out. The damage to the boxes was minimal, which is why we were surprised that the steel was dented inside. Super yummy used twice, once on smoked baby-backs and again on some yellowtail fish. Delish on both. A nice, clean, citrusy taste that was a wonderful surprise! Just a side note, the chips burned a little hot (not a problem if you keep an eye on the BBQ... but be sure to do so). Absolutely not a quality problem, just a hot-burning wood, but the taste is WELL worth a little vigilance while parked by the barbecue with a cold beer and a handy squirt bottle of water. Enjoy! :D

I have a Weber Genesis E310 that came with porcelain cast iron grates. I failed to season them, but always cleaned before every use, kept them dry, and oiled foods prior to grilling. They completely rusted out in less than 2 years (closer to 1.5), and my dad's Genesis E310 a couple of years old that had stainless grates were still in excellent condition. I was initially going to order the standard stainless steel grates, but they were about double the price of these and the non-E series Genesis version. When I found the Gourmet BBQ System stainless grates and for under $70 I thought I'd give 'em a go. I was concerned they may be lower-quality or significantly smaller gauge grates, but when they arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find they appear to be of similar gauge and quality of the standard E-series stainless grates.

They fit on my E310 perfectly with no overlap. I also liked the idea of the Gourmet BBQ System being able to change out the middle insert as desired for specific use. A day after ordering these grates (prior to receipt) I also placed an order for the Weber 8834 Gourmet BBQ System Sear Grate so I could have the benefits of both cast iron for searing meat and the durability of stainless steel grates.

I've grilled a few times since, and these grates appear to be fantastic high quality you expect from Weber, clean up nicely, will resist rust and wear unlike the porcelain cast iron (which although work very well functionally, take more care to last), and fit the E-series perfectly. I'll update if anything changes, but expect these to last years and for the price and flexibility of the Gourmet BBQ System, I see no reason to spend the extra $ for the standard stainless grates.

I am giving this 4 stars and not 5 due to I place both sides of the great in my Weber model that I bought it for and there is a slight overlap about 1/8 inch. The grate when placed in does not fit perfectly well as I thought it would. it does the job by holding the insert in and I can place some cooked meat on it after i remove the meat from the insert.

COWBOY CHARCOAL LLC 20 LB Bag Of Brand Hardwood Lump 100% All Review

This is some of the worst lump charcoal I have ever dealt with. A large proportion of the wood appears to be various types of pre-milled wood and I can only hope that it was unprimed. It burns with enough ash to make it nearly useless for anything but a quick steak, which is about all the time you have as it burns very quickly compared to other lump that have used. There are far too many "fines" and dust in the bag and virtually none of the contents are the size of "lumps" (my four bags were packed in an original sealed box, from Lowe's, so should have not suffered extensive shipping damage).

The following comments are not factored into my review and are based on information at

There have been reports of plywood (contains glue which creates who knows what when it burns) and other strange items in the bag, including multiple reports of what was believed to be the fibrous ceramic insulating lining of the kiln.

It is stated that "For those of you interested in these things, the June, 2003 issue of Gourmet magazine indicates that Cowboy produces the lump sold as Martha Stewart, Whole Foods and Williams Sonoma. And of course, we already knew that Genuswine Lump is also Cowboy."

Note also that the "Naked Whiz" review finds that the ash levels are very low, in contrast to my experience.

I have been using Cowboy charcoal for the last four years with great pleasure. I've purchased it from local True Value hardware stores. Unfortunately their product has become exceptionally inferior since at least spring of 2011, if not earlier. That is when I stopped buying and bought from some company that imported from South America, but no longer supplies. I just bought a bag of Cowboy for this weekend to see if anything changed. It is the same horrible product. I had always used Cowboy for steak and hamburgers. The consistent size of the charcoal chunks and high heat performed very well. (Kamado Joe's own labeled lump in the red bag, on the other hand, uses huge lump charcoal log sections making it perfect for hours of bbq'ing.)

What changed?

Cowboy lump charcoal began to use inferior wood, recycled wood boards and inconsistent sized lumps. Often huge lumps which do not help with high heat. Very obvious when you pour it out into your grill or chimney. YES, I can taste a huge difference in the meats. The flavor of the meat is worthless! The bag also contains an enormous amount of settled dust and small bits. That dust equates to a fireworks display leaping on your clothes. I really wonder if they have chosen to use improper wood like pine, discarded flooring or plywood.

Many of the bbq forums have suggested using Royal Oak lump. I will give it a try. Really not that many options in my area.

Just bought four bags of Royal Oak lump charcoal from WalMart. The Royal Oak bags were 8 lbs. The pieces are consistent sized. They burn nice and hot. But it does have a lot of settled dust in the bag. If you tip it upside down, the dust will get all over the pieces. Try not to do that. You will have a fireworks display when firing it up. Just a warning. Anyway, this will be my new lump charcoal until something better comes along.

Anyway... COWBOY is filth!

I just purchased a Big Joe Kamado grill. This was going to be my first attempt at indirect cooking. I placed the Cowboy charcoal in the grill according to directions. Using a fire starter I tried to lite the charcoal. It a barely caught fire and didn't spread. So I went to a propane torch for assistance. All the product would do is crackle and pop, not light. After 90 minutes I quit and through my roast in the oven.

I now begin my reseach for a better charcoal.

I've tried only two bags of this charcoal so my experience may not be typical. Both bags had a few very large lumps and a lot of small pieces and dust. I didn't notice anything that looked like milled lumber as other reviews have mentioned. In my bags, the wood seemed to be hardwood and the charcoal produced chicken with a good smoky flavor. Still, there are many other better choices for lump charcoal.

I purchased one of these about a month ago. Wow! It has completely changed the way I view outdoor cooking. So far I have made stir fry, baked bread and brownies(in a Dutch oven), fried, sauteed, seared, you name it. It certainly was convenient for car camping. I'll find out next week if it is too bulky to take canoe camping. I don't think it will be. The thing that surprised me is that I think I use it at home as much as I do camping. We've had a fairly hot summer (for us) in Wisconsin. Who wants to heat up the kitchen and then pay to cool the house back down? The stove will probably pay for itself by the end of the summer in saved utility costs. I ended up adding the cover, which does make baking in a Dutch oven more consistent. I'm intrigued by using the cover to make a mini-smoker; but, haven't tried it. I also added an adapter (not from Volcano, there's is too pricey) to be able to run 1 lb. propane tanks for camping. I was surprised how long one small tank lasted. I also have plans to use this, instead of my turkey fryer, for heating my hot water bath canner. Again, I do this to prevent heating up my kitchen as much as possible. The Volcano certainly seems like it will put out enough BTU's (using a 20 lb. tank) to work well for canning.

So far, the only thing I found that it won't work well for is if you are grilling for a large party. But if were any larger, it wouldn't be as portable. So it's a trade-off.

I already owned a Volcano II stove before purchasing this one. This time, I purchased the Volcano II stove with the propane option (yes, I know I could have only purchased the propane option itself, but I wanted the second stove). The Volcano II stove can use wood, charcoal, or propane to heat the food. This is a well-built, sturdy stove. It is not light, so it's probably not the right choice for backpackers. However, for those who want a sturdy, well-functioning stove for emergency preparedness, or something they can pop in the car for a trip to the beach, this is the right stove for you.

I read one claim where a full meal can be cooked on a Volcano II stove with only 15 briquettes. Guess what? It worked! With the oxygen control lever, you can control the heating intensity vs length of burn. I was able to cook a full 12" Dutch oven full of apple crisp with only 15 briquettes! Thanks to the retracting legs, you can set the stove on almost any surface while cooking. In my case, I set it up on one of my small folding tables you can buy at Wal-Mart or Target. I cooked the meal on the table without any problem or discoloration of the table itself. Setting up is simple lift the unit by the handle and the legs come down. When you're done, simply wipe out the remaining ashes, then lift it by the base and the legs retract. Couldn't be easier.

This is not the type of stove you want to have when you're tailgating or inviting the neighborhood over to sample your steaks. The grill is way too small for something like that. However, when your family wants a steak, use the Volcano II. You can cook a couple of steaks at a time without any problem. This is a terrific, well-built, heavy duty stove that's well worth the money.

Highly recommend this grill.

Unzip the bag, grab the handle bail and pop its ready, one more minute if you are using gas. I recommend buying the Volcano cookbook and technical manual as it explains the different ways to cook on the grill. I use this grill with my dutch ovens and it is real easy to regulate the heat. A 12" dutch oven fits inside perfectly. The stove collapses just as easy and makes a small package when packed inside the bag. This isn't some crap from Coleman company this is a serious piece of cooking machine. Another advantage to this grill is that you can cook on a plastic camp table, the bottom doesn't get hot at all.

Bottom line, if you have a need:

Its portable, lightweight, flexible and very well built.

Would buy it again in an instant and have recommended it to friends.

Buy the book and the mid level grill and you are all set

I purchased the old Volcano Jr. years ago this is a much improved version. A must have for any Prepper. If you go online to The Ready Store (search Volcano 2)there is an excellent video on how to use it with wood gas or charcoal.

This item has re-interested me in disaster preparedness. and there are some great buys for food online at Costco and here too such as portable greenhouses cast iron cookware.

If you don't think you are vulnerable to any of the following, then don't bother to purchase one.

Just got it, already love it! One thing I have learned and did not find online before purchase, the propane burner is designed for a 5 gallon tank, not a 1 pound tank. You can purchase separately an adapter for that. Also the propane difuser rack can have a pot placed directly on top of it, negating the need for the also add on sale item another grill rack.

I can't attest to the long-term issues of a steel brush on porcelain I have purchased brass/bronze (whatever) in the past but the bristles are light and work well. Don't push too hard. More, lighter passes is better than trying to do the whole thing as quickly as possible or the bristles crush, rending it useless.

we inherited an old grill with a grate that was rusted in the middle so we always cooked around the edges to avoid massive sticking. boy was i excited to find a perfect after market replacement grate that fits our grill exactly. it's gotten a whole bunch of use this summer and seems to be holding up well. i wipe the grate with a paper towel soaked in canola oil before each use to help avoid sticking.
