Replacing my 9 year old Ducane, and couldn't be happier. She was one of the good ones, actually made in South Carolina, but this Weber has better temperature control and gets hot! Nice when you're grilling in winter!

Assembly was easy, the firebox and gas line assemble came pre-assembled; you just build the cart and attach the finishing components such as the ignitor, knob cover plate, side shelves and door. Took about an hour and 45 min. The instructions are clear and concise. Needed tools are a #2 Phillips screwdriver and a 7/16ths deep dish socket would be useful for the 8 nuts securing the side table brackets.

Deal maker for me was the heavy cast iron grates. These are exactly the same quality as the $699 E-310 Genesis, just smaller, and they leave great grill marks! (Please see picture).

Even though this grill has 2 burners it gets hot! Up to 550 degrees within 10 min on high. Turn down the temp and it dropped to 400 within a couple of minutes.

A nice feature is the propane tank gauge, which is spring mounted and based on full tank weighing 38 lb.'s. I could tell by feel that my tank was getting low when I picked it up, and the gauge confirmed my suspicion by letting me know that I'm down to a fifth of a tank just with a simple glance at the well-marked hanging scale indicator.

This is the 2013 model, with burner knobs moved to the front, providing more useful work space. If needed the side tables collapse, but still feel very secure and substantial when used in the upright position.

I'm very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this to a friend.

I actually purchased my E210 from a local retailer, but thought I would write a review for it here anyways.

Pro's

-----

* Gets up to 550 degrees in mid winter here in Utah

* Very sturdy construction, even the fold down shelves are very stable unlike most grills.

* Sides are basically closed with only a few small holes for rotisserie (had a bird build a nest in my last one so this was important for me, no where for them to get in now)

* Enclosed Propane area

* Propane tank meter (done by weight)

* Solid Iron Grills, good weight, good heat retention, great sear marks.

* Ignition system is great, battery powered, not one of those little push powered igniters that always break.

Con's

-----

* Cost, at $499 this was the most expensive BBQ I have purchased, and it seemed odd considering it didn't have many of the features that most others in that price range have.

* No Side Burner, but really who actually uses that thing anyways.

Personal Thoughts:

------------------

I was a little leery of getting what seemed like a feature lacking BBQ for basically a $500 price tag. But the more I thought about it the more I realized I really didn't want all of those extra little gadgets that I frankly never used. I wanted a well made, well thought out, but otherwise basic BBQ. Enter the E210, which fits the bill perfectly. It is a bit expensive compared to other BBQ's with the same basic features, but what you are paying for is a good design and good quality. I do not regret the purchase at all, it fits exactly what I needed it to. It hits higher temps than most cheap BBQ's, most likely due to the well thought out design with little room for air to escape the BBQ. I never use the bun warmers at all, so I simply removed that rack completely so I have full access to the main BBQ surface.

I love the construction, it is very stable and sturdy a significant improvement from all of the cheap BBQ's I have used in the past. I love the grates, they leave great sear marks and are easy to keep clean and are just a good quality heavy duty iron. I have used my BBQ almost every day since I purchased it several months ago from steaks to hamburgers and I have to say it is just about perfect. This BBQ is clearly superior in quality than any other BBQ in the price range and if you BBQ as often as I do it is well worth the investment. From quality knobs, to stable trays, to solid grills, to a great ignition system, from top to bottom this grill is well designed and well built. I would highly recommend it. If you really need the side burner there are other models that include it, but I can't think of a single time I have ever used the side burner.

Recommendation:

---------------

I would highly recommend the Webber BBQ light if you ever cook after dark and have not looked into it yet. I cook after dark fairly regularly and having the attached light makes an awesome grill even better. It simply attaches to the handle, so it lights up the Grill when you lift the lid to check on your food. Some people have complained about battery drainage, but I simply turn it on when I am BBQ'ing, then turn it off when finished and it works perfectly.

Best Deals for Weber Spirit Liquid Propane Gas Grill

I purchased this grill from Amazon earlier this month, and was surprised that Amazon would overnight for only $3.99 with my Prime account. That convenience certainly hit Amazon's margin, its a heavy box, can't be cheap to overnight a 150lb box! So props for Amazon!

As far as the grill is concerned, I was between this Spirit E320 and the E220. Both have the side burner, which was a requirement for me. The 220 was virtually out of stock anywhere you look, and I didn't want to wait so I spent a little more and went with the 320. I was initially a little worried about the 320's size, but in reality its only slightly bigger than the 220 which is a good thing for me. I'm actually glad I went with this slightly larger model, I think its really the perfect size grill. The 220 may be a b little too junior.

I've used it every night this week, and have enjoyed it. Grill reaches 500 degrees in about five minutes here in South Florida where its 80 degrees at night in the middle of winter, although that may take a little longer in colder climates. We did get a sudden rain storm that drenched the grill during warm up, but even then the temperate reached 500 degrees in the same amount of time.

My only complain is one that some people discussed in other forums concerning the relative ease to over torque one of four screws that hold the side table together. Weber has clearly noticed this, and included an appendix to the manual with a new screw set to replace the defective ones. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until after the fact as the setup guide has no mention that you should look elsewhere in the box for the "revised" version of step ## which uses the new screws. Weber should go through the trouble of revising their official setup guide so people don't overlook the way I did. Ultimately, one of the four screws snapped. Eventually I'll disassemble the side table and use the revised and newly included screws, but I don't understand why Weber wouldn't just revise the official setup guide. Its really a subtle rant, but I can easily see anxious grillers duplicating my mistake and over torquing ALL of the original screws only to then realize they didn't use the revised instructions. Just fix the original setup guide, Weber!

Otherwise, I'm a happy customer. I come from a Charbroil grill, and already the food coming off my Weber is more flavorful. I look forward to many years of grilling.

PS I also purchased a Weber grill cover (http://www.amazon.com/Weber-7553-Premium-Genesis-Grills/dp/B0012Y1D5E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357839047&sr=8-1&keywords=weber+grill+cover). Its very easy to put on and take off, I highly recommend it.

Honest reviews on Weber Spirit Liquid Propane Gas Grill

Remember in high school when you were dating that girl and you *thought* you were in love? And then you broke up and a few years later someone better came along and you found out what real love really felt like? Remember that grill that you thought you loved? You know, the one that you bought at Walmart with for $199 with 8 burners, a built in sink and a helicopter landing pad? Well, you haven't loved a grill until you've owned this one. Simplicity is key, and combined with great build quality, this grill is an absolute WINNER.

Let me just say this: there's a reason why this grill is more than ones from other makers even though it may seemingly have less features and less burners. It is so well made and so easy to put together it's crazy. This thing is a tank. And it's beautiful.

It's like comparing a BMW and Kia. They both have CD players and leather seats but are they equal? Nope.

A couple of GREAT things about this grill:

1. It is amazingly easy to assemble for a grill. The directions are all pictures, which is kind of annoying, but if you can't read you'll love it.

2. It is packed very well.

3. It is beautiful when assembled. It is a real work of art.

4. It cooks food so darn well evenly, accurately and with precision. It heats up quickly.

5. The fold down trays on the side are a nice touch. The grill takes up a really small footprint when you need it to.

A couple of NOT so great things about this grill:

1. If you're used to cooking 17 cobs of corn 14 burgers, 12 hot dogs and a two t-bones simultaneously, this is not the grill for you.

2. I don't really like the back of the handle instead of being solid, it has like some ridges (to add grip I guess?) and it feels, well, not good.

One thing I would also recommend get the Weber grill cover. It's well worth it. It's also well made and it will keep this puppy shining like the day you bought it.

It's time for a burger. Excuse me.

The night it arrived I unpacked it, did an inventory check, and "read" the instructions front to back. The instructions are a lot like a LEGO set: mostly pictures and arrows that are actually very accurate representations of the parts. (Unlike the $200 grills I've bought at Wal-Mart and Lowes Depot. Everyone knows they can't translate Engrish, but who would have thought they could actually misinterpret a drawing so badly?) Anyway, the second night it went together without a hitch in about an hour and a half. What a solid beauty. The heavy and solid iron grilling surface is large enough to cook for 6-10 people, and the fire box has almost no holes where heat can escape. Every piece is either stainless steel or coated with a serious thickness of ceramic paint that is very tough. Someone would have to abuse it badly to make it rust (although I probably still wouldn't leave it at the beach year round...) I'll update with a cooking review after it is broken in with burgers, steaks, ribs and roasts. Getting a solid smoke solution other than foil smoker pouches laying on top of the flame deflectors on cheap grills will be nice. I'm thinking a smoker box under the burners on the drip pan will work...

UPDATE: This thing heats up to 550 in ten minutes lust like others have said. The cast iron grates have wide bars with a lot of surface area and steaks sear beautifully every time. Got a cast iron smoker box from Lowes Depot for about $15 that is only about an inch tall and it sits on top of the "flavorizer" bars under the cast iron grates perfectly. Smoke makes everything taste better -especially the three full racks of baby back ribs I indirectly grilled last weekend. After the grill warmed up with all burners on high and the wood chips started smoking I turned two of the three burners completely off and one end burner kept the grill at 325 degrees consistently for 4+ hours! I moved and mopped the ribs every hour and had to crank up the middle burner to get it back up to temp quickly (3-5 min.) but once there just the left burner took over like a champ. This is the best grill I've ever owned. I did not have an issue mounting my propane tank to the gas level indicator like another reviewer. It may be the type of tank he had. Mine is from Costco and it came with its own internal fuel gauge and the two seem to agree so I'm very happy with Weber's gas level indicator. The drip pan and collection system is also impressive. All juice and debris goes right where it is supposed to and using a scraper to clean it out and push all the waste through the hole into the disposable aluminum pan makes this one of the easiest grills to clean I have ever used.

DO NOT BUY THIS, or anything else from Maverick! Maverick Mesh BBQ Grill 12-Inch Fry Pan

I was reluctant to purchase this because I've seen similar Maverick products in stores, and they look cheaply made. This grill basket is no exception. I took it out of the box, and immediately washed it because I was so excited to use it. As soon as I washed it, the bottom ring that is supposed to provide the basket with a flat, stable surface fell off (!!). Upon closer inspection, all the soldering joints are sloppy and sparse--hardly one drop of molten metal will keep the product together, so I expect it's just a matter of time before the whole thing falls apart. Shame on me for not listening to my intuition, and ordering this thing anyway. I have HAD IT with products made in China, especially kitchen products!

At the risk of sounding like a protectionist, there's only one item I purchased in the last year that was made in China that I am perfectly happy with, which I will be posting a glowing review about (the Weber 3-pc stainless grill tool set--WONDERFUL!). I should start my own site called Made in the U.S.A., where all the products are made at home, using quality materials and manufacturing processes. Granted, the prices would be higher, but who cares how inexpensive it is if you barely get one or two uses out of something that's supposed to last years??

When this arrived the handle had to be put on and that was a little challenging. The clip to secure the top to the bottom would not work unless the handle was pulled out a little and then pushed back in when the clip was secured. The first time we used it my wife put too many veggies in and the handle felt like it was going to bend every time I picked it up to shake the veggies on the grill. Next time we will cook less and it should work great. The vegetables we cooked came out great so to make a long story short, I would buy this product again.

I ordered this for grilling veggies because I always seem to loose them through the grate. My only complaint is that even though I oil the veggies, there is quite a bit of sticking for a non stick pan. you definitely have to spray or oil the pan AND keep the veggies moving or they will burn and stick. Could be a question of my culinary skill but I want my non-stick to be idiot proof!!

This product required 2-3 hours for assemble. However, It looks great after you do it. One thing, I'd like to highlight here is that the design of ignition is not good i.e. the gas on and ignition are designed separately.

We've always had, and been happy with, Weber products. For this go-around we opted with the slighted upgraded EP-310 and it was a good move. The grates are easy to clean and the unit feels solid. Also, if you are upgrading from a Genesis series as we did you will be pleasantly surprised at the improvements.

Also, we opted not to go with a model that has a side burner as we've never actually used one in over 20 years of ownership LOL.

Great Grill, took a while to assemble. Compared to my old grill, this is so much better. Sturdy design, cast body, I feel this grill will last me at least 10 years with regular use. Compared to my previous grill which lasted 3 years and was inconsistent at times. I just used it once so far but I'm hoping this will last me a long time.

I bought this adapter hose for my Cuisinart grill, which sits on my Cuisinart stand, which holds a standard propane tank. It seems like these items should go very well together. One might say, that they are made for one another.

And it's true, I was able to attach the hose to the grill fairly easily, tuck it neatly away with a special clip provided by the stand, and attached the tank without an issue. It all fit together.

However, the instructions are very careful, as it should be with propane grills, to direct the user to check for gas leaks using a solution of diluted dishsoap. Seems like a standard CYA move. But much to my dismay, my set up had leaks near the grill connection; and I and had to detach, re-attach, tighten, wiggle ... until the leaks disappeared. Now since this potential issue was pointed out in the manual along with instructions on how to address it you may be thinking that it seems rather unfair to ding Cuisinart for the problem.

I disagree.

To me it seems like components designed to work in unison should do so flawlessly, that's the expectation you have when you don't opt for the generic brand. Secondly, stopping leaks seems like a core functional requirement for a hose. I mean you could use a string to 'connect' the grill and the propane tank. Delivering the propane to the tank is the whole point of a hose. So if you have a leak, whatever gas is leaking out is not being delivered to the tank.... hence, fail.

It's true that all hoses can have leaks and it's a somewhat universal problem, but I base my low rating on the fact that I am using a matching grill, the set up had leaks on the very first connection, and it's price. I had higher expectations.

This LP adaptor fits perfectly to allow me to use a 20lb tank on my Cuisinart Gas Grill and stand.

Best Deals for Cuisinart 4-Foot LP Adaptor Hose

Although the first hose I purchased had to be returned, the second one went on perfectly and I'm quite pleased with the entire unit. Cuisinart stood behind the product and was informative about correct action on the first hose.

Honest reviews on Cuisinart 4-Foot LP Adaptor Hose

We purchased the Cuisinart CCG-200 Gas Grill. It requires the Cuisinart 4-Foot LP Adaptor Hose to work with a 20 gallon propane tank. So we eagerly purchased the Cuisinart 4-Foot LP Adaptor Hose fully anticipating a wonderful barbecue. What a huge mistake! No matter how much we tightened the connector to the 20 lb. tank, the connection still leaked like crazy.

Message to you Cuisinart: How terrible and unacceptable that you would release such a product to the general public! A simple test at the factory could have easily shown this item to be defective. Shame on you! I have worked with propane tanks on and off for over 35 years. I know how to test with soapy water, and I know when it is an obviously defective item. WHAT ABOUT NEWBIES THAT HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO TEST THIS DEFECTIVE HOSE? YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO RELEASE SUCH AN ITEM TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC FOR YOU ARE ENDANGERING THE LIVES OF PRECIOUS PEOPLE!

This item is NOT like a soccer ball, book, computer component, etc. You are selling a defective item that has the potential of taking human lives. Get your act together or take the item off your list for general public use.

You have no excuse whatsoever for such a terrible blunder. Where is the quality control that should be in place for such an item?

Last, I am not the only person that has experienced such non-sense. I read other reviews that are saying the same thing: the hose/connector LEAKS.

I'll NEVER buy a propane item from you again. You have violated and lost my trust. Period.

Overall I'm very happy with this product. Nothing really stands out about it, but I also have no serious complaints about the construction. If anything, I can see a leather cord being more versatile to hang the tool from, versus the rather bulky hanging hook. The rivets securing both hooks to the handle seem secure, and there is no wiggle at the junctions. Made in China.

I bought this based on the price, so my overall impression is, "great product for six bucks!" Sadly, the cost has more than doubled from when I ordered this on 4/25/12 (with Prime shipping) for $6.57. I can't say I would purchase this at the current price point.

When I looking for carts for my Weber Q 220, the choices was 6507 (Good Reviews); 41429 (Goods Reviews too) and this 6549: (No reviews on Internet) So, I've wrote to the excellent Weber customer service and they told me that it is a new model. Basically is the same with slight modifications. One I can note is that 6549 has a space for store the tank below grill , which is very good because reduce the footprint of the entire set. Related to quality, I think is good and does the job.

The other question to Weber was, what's cover works with this cart? Ok, the model number is Cover 6554 wich is specially designed for use with 6549 cart.

Overall, very happy with my grill.

Hope this help to anyone like me searching for the right accesories.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I couldn't figure out the difference between the 6549, 6507 and 41429. I called Weber Customer service. Although pleasant, she was clueless. The 6549 is the upgrade from the 6507. I'm still not sure where the 41429 fits in the scheme of things or the differences. I would have preferred the Stationary Cart but it apparently does not hold my Q100.

Just got the 6549 yesterday. It was easy to put together, the parts are lightweight but tension seems to give it more strength. The grill fits well and is easy to install. A single velcro in the back holds it in place.

A couple of slight CONS:

1) The bottom rack does NOT hold the tank. It is supposed to sit on the ground in the hole. This makes it inconvenient to roll.

2) The cart must be turned upside down in order to disassemble/reassemble for travel. It's easy to remove and install the grill but still, it's a few unnecessary steps. This could have been designed better.

Best Deals for Weber 6549 Weber Q Rolling Cart

My Weber 6549 cart arrived well packed and in perfect condition. The only tool required for assembly was a hammer to lock the wheel retainers onto their axle. The cart is cleverly designed to not only lock the grill securely to the cart but also to serve as a fold-up rolling transporter. The materials seem weather-resistant, and the cart is attractive.

Despite these virtues, I still wish that the cart did at least two more things:

First, the cart isn't designed to support a 20# propane cylinder. Owners who use their Q-series grills as their main outdoor cooking tool will opt, as I have, to install the 20# propane cylinder adapter. It would be convenient to use the cart as storage for both the propane cylinder and the grill. Although the bottom wires of the cart will (reluctantly) support a 20# cylinder, it is obvious that they aren't designed to do so. For the longevity of the cart, it is not a good idea to overload it. This means that the propane cylinder must sit on the ground beside the cart and be disconnected/reconnected at each move. It also means that even though the cart folds to roll the grill, I still have to lug the propane cylinder and its hose seperately. These results are sub-optimal.

Second, the cart allows the grill to move excessively. While cooking, this isn't too noticeable. Trying to scrub the grate after cooking, though, necessitates the use of one hand to stabilize the cart. Otherwise, the grill moves around so much that half of your arm movements are wasted moving the grill itself. I never had the feeling that the grill was going to overturn; the cart is not that unstable. I did feel, though, that cleaning was far harder than it should have been. The cleaning issue is directly attributable to the cart's lack of rigidity.

Overall, this was a fair bargain for its price, but with just a little more engineering, it could have been a fantastic bargain. If my expectations weren't so high for Weber products, I'd probably give this cart a pass, but I just know that Weber can do better. If I had this to do over again, I might opt for the more expensive cart that looks like it is designed for propane cylinder storage. I don't know if the more expensive model is sturdier, but I would hope so.

If you can live with the shortcomings of this cart, the price is certainly reasonable. If you prefer to use the larger propane cylinders, though, weigh the minuses before purchase.

Honest reviews on Weber 6549 Weber Q Rolling Cart

I bought the weber q220 for my husband and he absolutely loves it but wanted a stand for it. He did a ton of research and went with this newer model. The cart is sturdy and holds the grill securely. The biggest issue with the stand is that the grill has to be removed to collapse it into a carry along cart. I would have liked weber to design this cart so that the legs collapse without having to remove the grill. Removing the grill is fairly simple, it is held in place by a single Velcro strap, so this is by no means a deal breaker. Because of this small inconvenience I rated this cart 4 stars. If they fixed this issue, I would give it 5 stars.

It works well for small spaces and this new design has a spot for a 20# tank to sit on the floor below the grill. When setup the grill feels secure on the cart. There is some wobble when cleaning the grill but nothing excessive or dangerous, this is to be expected of a mobile cart. Overall I would recommend this product and would buy it again.

I have yet to receive my grill (admittedly ordered from another vendor -sorry Amazon), but the cart arrived on time. It's sturdy. It does have a nice place for a propane tank (unlike a previous model). It will do the job.

The wheels? Plastic. Honestly, the one and only disappointment with the product. I'm sure it will support my new grill wonderfully. And I'm sure it will weather the elements fine. It also seems handy-dandy portable just like advertised.

I just wish the wheels were actual wheels. As in made of rubber. Anything other than plastic.

Other than that, a good product.

Very well made All stainless steel grill made in the USA. Looks like it will last a lifetime and grills well. Couple of things I would have liked to have, propane gauge so I know when the tank is near empty and a some grease pan liners should be included. Other than that so far it's great. Made by the same company that does the Fire Magic grills.

I've had this smoker for about four years now. Mine is a slightly older model without the lower storage doors. It's been a great smoker, and it's a fantastic value in this size range. It's solidly built, and I haven't had any problems with it. The only criticism I have is that the built in thermometer doesn't seem to be all that accurate. I'd recommend using a digital probe thermometer instead.

The vent doors make it easy enough to control the heat. I usually load the fire box with two Weber chimneys worth of Kingsford charcoal. Start with the fire box vent closed, and you'll get about 250F in the smoke chamber. As the coals begin to fade, open the vents to maintain the temp. I make a lot of ribs, pulled pork, chicken, and salmon. They all come out great.

This unit works great as a grill too. The crank works well to adjust the height of the coals, which is a nice feature.

I purchased this grill just before the Memorial Day weekend and have used it several times a week all summer through the Labor Day weekend. My old Brinkman of similar design finally rusted out after 4 years of constant use. Although the new Landmann was more than twice the cost of the old Brinkman, I wanted to have a little larger grill with the attached smoker box. The Landmann is certainly more sturdy than the Brinkman, although I liked the adjustable grate design on the Brinkman much better. The adjustable grate system seems a bit flimsy on the Landmann (as compared to the Brinkman design) and tilts when brought all the way to the top of the grill. I have grown tired of trying to readjust the cables so I will learn to live with it.

Overall, I have cooked some of the best food ever on the Landmann over the course of this past summer. I have grilled and smoked just about every form of meat and vegetable imaginable, and even some pizza. The large size, sturdy construction, and attached smoker made it a perfect choice for my needs. I am very happy with this grill/smoker.

Just as a note, here are a few minor considerations when purchasing this grill:

(1) Assembly bring a friend. This is a large heavy grill and will require two people for assembling many of the parts. I took it on by myself and was regretting the choice after the 4th hour of wrestling parts. This thing is a bear.

(2) Gloves buy some. There is absolutely nothing on this grill that you can touch with bare hands once it gets fired up. Unlike other grills with insulated or heat resistant handles, the handles on this grill will conduct the same temperature as on the body of the grill. You certainly do not want to touch those nice-looking and inviting front doors without gloves. Ouch!

(3) The large size of the grill makes otherwise simple operations a bit formidable if you want to avoid being burned. I managed to find a decent fireplace kit on sale and use the poker and shovel almost every time I cook. The long stems on the fireplace hardware help to keep arms and hands from having to reach over or into the fire.

(4) There are no "wings" or other areas on this grill for setting anything down or keeping tools, sauces, etc handy. You may want to consider getting a cart.

(5) Plan on low and slow smoking at an average of 250 degrees. Even when the smoker box gets heated to 700 degrees, the temperature in the main compartment rarely exceeds 275 degrees. But it does a great job of sustaining a fixed temperature over a period of time.

(6) Minor rust developed almost immediately although it is stored under a carport roof and under my old Brinkman PVC cover when not in use it NEVER gets wet. This is easily addressed with some sandpaper and some high-temperature black rustoleum; certainly not a deal breaker.

Spent some time shopping for an offset smoker in the price range of $500-$600 which many will find out is at the low end. This unit seemed to be a good fit for value and performance. Assembly took 2 guys about an hour and a half, not bad at all. One issue is the fact that the packaging material is adhered to most of the parts with some sort of glue, that just doesn't come off. One hopes it not giving off some toxic fumes when it burns. Biggest issue with this grill/smoker is the inferior quality of the body and grill grates. The side box warps about an inch or two when fire gets to 700 and the side access door won't close, consequently the fire burns hot and fast, temp in big box gets to about 250 but soon after begins to dwindle. After my first long smoke the smoker box door is so warped it won't even close. The grill's grates are cheap and ineffective, will probably have some new ones custom made. As to using as a direct heat grill, this is not your unit. The grill grate at the lower level of the big box is the same cheap grill grate as the others. Consequently the burning charcoal quickly slips to the bottom of the box. The adjustable height of this is a nice option, but the design is poor. As for me, this unit with some modifications will make an OK smoker, but for direct grilling, I will use my Brinkmann. As pointed out in other reviews, invest in some gloves, the handles, also lacking is heft, quickly become very hot to the touch. For those with kids, you will always need to be on the lookout when this is cooking.

My review is based on someone who cooks slow and low at least once a week, use all natural hardwood charcoal and hardwood chunks.

Honest reviews on Landmann Black Dog 42XT Charcoal Grill & Smoker

I have owned this grill for about 2 months. So far, I would have to say I am pleased with this product. The construction for the most part seems solid and sturdy. The charcoal box is easily accessible via both the lid and the side door. The handy double doors in the front make it easy to add charcoal if used for direct grilling. The slide out ash tray is also a huge asset. This is a large grill allowing lots of space for preparing meals. I have performed a few modifications such as adding a heat deflector to even the heat distribution and a charcoal basket to hold the coals in place. This grill is able to maintain steady temperatures in excess of 6 hours easily and the firebox responds well to intake vent changes. My only real concern is rust. Although I have seasoned the grill twice, it appears I already have a small amount of rust starting to form both in the cooking chamber and in the firebox. I keep the grill covered while not in use using the Landmann cover designed for this grill, but it is outdoors. It appears that the rust spots are on located in the pullout charcoal tray in the smoking chamber and the bottom of the firebox. A few times, I have noticed water in these areas after a heavy rain. I believe the lids on both sides are the culprit because they are only tack welded in some places where the metal joins. I believe this is allowing water to enter the grill. Right now this has not been a large issue becase I usually sand out the rust spots and coat with oil after heavy rains. I am concerned however of how many seasons this grill will endure before one of these spots begin to rust through.

Plus side

1. Nice offset box with large door for loading wood or coal.

2. Vent on side is wide so air distributes easy.

3. Smoker has a charcoal tray that elevates with a nice heat-diffused handle.

4. Mobility of this smoker is great.

5. Highly modifiable.

6. Porcelain coated/covered grates

7. 2 fairly nice large thermometers

Minus side

1. Thin walls.

2. Assembly takes forever. Screw heads shred easily.

3. Got all the way to installing handles and realized the left door pilot holes were on the hinge side of the door.

4. Getting a response from Landmann corp (Georgia) frustrating.

5. Handles should all be made with heat springs.

6. Hard to keep temperature even in smoker.

7. Offset hood dented and out of alignment

8. No upper or lower shelf

9. Front castors won't last long if exposed to elements

I really wish I had a chance to look at this thing prior to purchase. One must question why put in over $500 on something that doesn't have features that make more sense. A heat distribution shield on the bottom from where the firebox meets the main smoker would help. Wouldn't cost that much to make the walls a couple of microns thicker and please supply handles that can be used when the thing is hot! Consider going to eBay and getting 4 6" handle springs, 2 thermal gaskets to seal the hoods and some thermal sealant to plug up all the little holes.

This really is a great design, but fabricated in China. My verdict is I will use it until it crumbles like my Char-Griller Smokin' Pro, then save my money and get one that will take me through retirement.
