I received this a few weeks ago and tried it out the other night on 4 eight oz. Filet Mignons. Grat grill marks, no flare ups and very juicy Filets. It is on the expensive side but I had to splurge for the Weber Performer as I LOVE TO GRILL. Covers majority of grill thus no wasted space. Very quality durable material that should last a VERY long time. Be careful though as the edges that were cut to fit the Weber are VERY VERY sharp and could cause deep nasty cuts. Surprised the company did not round down as this could be a lawsuit in the making.

Down-side.....if you Google this item you can find a $20 off coupon and order it from the manufactures site (I found the next day after ordering from Amazon). I email the company and 3 weeks later NO ANSWER. Poor customer service. If they offer the discount THEN OFFER IT TO EVERYONE! Sharp edges could cause severe cuts.

Gave if 4 stars for price and poor customer service (too bad Amazon can't breakdown the starts by category).

UPDATE SEPT. 2013

I thought it was time for an update. I loved this grate when I first purchased it however as time went on the 3 pieces would not stay connected. Thus, I stopped using it about a year ago.

Instead I found Stok SIS9000 Grill Replacement 22-1/2-Inch Grate. It is much cheaper however not cheap. Look at my review on that grate. I wish they had the Stok produced a few years ago as I LOVE IT vs. the GrillGrate now however time will tell as to how well it holds up.

Thus, I dropped the rating from a 4 to a 2 Star

I am an avid cook and very serious foodie. I own All-Clad cookware, Masahiro knives, a Viking stove, sous vide cookers, vacuum sealers, etc. and use them all. I'd pondered the Grillgrates for a couple of years and finally asked for a set for Christmas this year. After unboxing, I washed them & heated on the stove, applying a thin film of oil to season them. Once they were cooled, I fired up the grill then cooked a marinated spatchcocked chicken. I was particularly impressed with the results because at one point in the cooking process, I got distracted and I forgot to tend the bird for about 8-10 minutes. This was while the bird was directly over the flames of my charcoal Weber Performer grill, and without the Grillgrates, the bird would surely have vaporized into a nasty piled of charcoal and bones. But the Grillgrates provided enough protection that the bird was virtually unharmed other than some blackened skin on the thighs. The chicken was beautifully cooked and the rest of the skin was a nice bronze color with good texture. Plus one for the Grillgrates!

My second and third time using the Grillgrates, I noticed the down-side of these hefty aluminum plates they absorb and dissipate a lot of heat! (They would be better made of cast iron, IMO). Here's the reason: Aluminum is very effective conductor of heat. This means that it heats up very quickly, but then also transfers that heat very quickly to something else. This results in great sear marks where the heat is being absorbed from the fire and then transferred to the meat along the thin lines of the grill top. The problem is that this heat is then unavailable around the other areas of the meat meaning that you get nice cosmetic sear marks on the surface of the meat, but in the spaces between the sear marks, there is hardly any browning occurring (no Maillard reaction). I found this to be the case with both beef steaks (ribeye and New York cuts) as well as salmon fillets. Unless I apply a lacquer of maple syrup or brown sugar to the salmon (some sugar to caramelize), I cannot get a crust to form without over-cooking it on the Grillgrates. I'm still experimenting with steaks to get a good crust, but my general impression is that unless they are very thick cuts, they will need to be pan-seared before putting onto the grill in order to get the level of crust to form that I prefer on a grilled steak.

For those willing to go through the effort, my BEST result so far was to cook 1" thick Ribeye steaks sous vide in a 135 degree bath for an hour, then pan sear them in a smoking hot cast iron skillet AND THEN mark them on the Weber/Grillgrates (burning oak or mesquite wood). This results in a juicy, perfect medium steak (the way we like them) with the fat all rendered, but without an over-cooked edge, AND wonderful crust and sear marks. Lots of work, but sometimes it is just worth it.

The Grillgrates are definitely an important part of my cooking arsenal, but they are not perfect, and require some specialized handling if you want optimum results, in my opinion. I give them an extra star for the quality of construction, but would take away half a star if I could for the excessive cost (I think $120 is a bit excessive $60 or $70 seems more reasonable to me).

Things rarely live up to the hype, however these did not disappoint. I live in a real windy area so heat dissipates rather quickly, so these grates really make a difference. I can cut my usage of briquets in half and still get a higher temperature. I absolutely love them. Craig "meathead" Goldwyn is correct again. I have yet to experience an item that didn't live up to his reviews.

When I first saw the recommendation by Meathead of AmazingRibs.com I thought I would buy a set without telling my wife she thinks I waste too much cash on my collection of BBQ gadgets! Last weekend, however, at our holiday house in France I admitted to buying it, and cooked some spicy pork chops. What a success! So juicy and tasty were the chops that she has now asked me to buy a second set for use at home in England. Our daughter who was with us for the weekend has asked that we give her our UK GrillGrates when we retire to France in a couple of years.

I have tried several different grills for my charchol bbq's...this one is the best!

I spent over $300 on a cast iron grill setup for my weber which quickly rusted and was a hassle to maintain. Not only are the GrillGrates easy to maintain but you can taste the difference this grill makes in the food.

These bags will hold an entire cut up chicken or a large fish filet. It's easy to use and the smokey flavor is really good.

The down side: I've used other smoker bags which seemed sturdier. You have to carefully cradle your food on and off the grill or the bag will come apart. However, the sturdier bags are priced much higher.

One other down side: I find I have to cook my food longer than suggested on the product folder. In fact the instructions could be better i.e.: grill lid down or up? Direct or indirect? Trial and error taught me to use the lid down and direct heat on high.

Once you get used to cooking with these I think they're excellent.

I looked into buying a smoker and I also read quite a bit about the art form of smoking meat. Well it's quite an investment in time to learn how to do it and you can lose a fortune on meats experimenting so if you are just the average person that enjoys grilling and want to try something new these are great. We have used the Hickory and the Mesquite and enjoyed the result from both. You do have to watch what you are cooking closely. We put a about 1 1/2 pounds of bonless pork ribs in the bag, after 20 minutes on the grill we carefully cut the bag open from the top to avoid causing a flare up from the juices in the bag, removed the smoked meat and then gave it less than a minute directly on the grill just to give it some char marks.

Be very careful because the bag will have a lot of fat and juices and spilling it onto the grill or yourself could have serious consequences.

The good news:

-It's bigger than I thought. You can fit enough food for a decent meal for two people on one cook, and small meals for 4. Will fit roughly 4 small hamburgers or two jumbo burgers and a couple hotdogs/brats.

-It's pretty compact so it has pretty even heat.

-It seems very durable and sturdy

The not-so-good news:

-The ash tray is pretty shallow, so if you're using lighter fluid be careful as it may drip.

-There is no cover to control the flames, nor are there any vents.

-Because it's small and pretty even heat, you have to take things off as soon as they are done, no room for warming.

Overall I am planning on using this for camping with my significant other. We don't have a lot of room in our car on camping trips so this little guy works perfect for us.

This new Camerons Tailgator Grill is a great way to cook on the go or at the game.

It is small and compact, but can cook up to 8 pounds of meat, on a minimal load, of briquette's.

These bags are eight bucks at Sportsmen's Warehouse and are a great fit for the CGG16B reversible griddle. Not much else to say. Nice, thick canvas should do the job well. I can't yet speak about the durability, though.

This product seemed like a handy way to start charcoal and worked well for 6 months and then suddenly died. I had used it perhaps 10 times. This works out to around $2 per use.

Amazon indicates the product is non-refundable after just 1 month and did not stand behind this product. NOT RECOMMENDED.

What can I say. It worked OK, but I forgot to put it away and the weather ruined it. The problem is it's hot when you take it out of the barbeque so I set it down on the brick fire pit to cool off, then I forgot about it later. Got it as a gift and really had to play with it to get it to work. Finally got some fairly good readings. Put it away, and the next time the batteries were dead. So much for the auto shut off feature. Put new batteries in it and really had to play with it to get it to work. Never got a consistent reading. This time I took the batteries out afterward. What a hassle. Didn't matter, next time I couldn't get it to work at all. Gave it one star because the site would not let me give it none.

This is an absolutely useless device. It is completely inaccurate. Actually, I think I've never, ever seen a digital device that is so blatantly inaccurate, and I own dozens of gadgets of all sorts. I tested it several times, comparing temperature measurements to a Pyrex cooking thermometer we've had for over 6 years (and which I know is very accurate because of the results I've seen for so long), and the RediFork is always, absolutely a-l-w-a-y-s off mark. Actually, if you use it to take measurements a few times, one after the other, you never get the same temperature! I am not sure if Maverick simply does not have quality control and I got a broken one, but I am sure that I will avoid this brand from now on. In fact, I just bought a cooking thermometer today with my father, who fell in love with our Pyrex thermometer, and we had to go to a couple of stores because the first stores that we visited happened to only have Maverick thermometers. I am not even returning this useless device... it is going directly to the garbage can, where it belongs.

First, be advised that this particular grill is the classic Model with the plastic base. It is often discounted, other places, below this price. The newest model is the Premier, with the steel mesh base.

That said, there is probably no difference in cooking between the two models.

The Cobb Grill is a wonderful invention that will automatically make you a BBQ Master. I've had mine for about 6 months now, and use it about once a week. Whole chickens, smoked, are wonderful, the best you've had. The built-in Moat keeps the chicken as moist as a 'Beer-Can Chicken' would. Just add your favorite liquid, from beer to broth, to water and a splash of Soy Sauce...it all works great. Smoked Tri-Tip is incredible, and ribs are the best I've ever eaten. I can't praise this little unit enough, and I don't even get paid for the lauding.

The Roasting Rack accessory, a small wire grill, is way overpriced, and any round little rack you can find at a thrift store will work fine. Or, you don't even need it: just turn the food once during cooking.

I made my own smoking box out of a small round tin candy can (Barns and Hayley?) by punching holes in the lid...a heavy duty aluminum foil pouch also works perfect.

The unit is big enough for a whole chicken, a pile of ribs (will do a whole rack if you chop it into 3rds and pile them up), a Tri-Tip or other roast...but will be small if you want to do 40 hamburgers for the crowd...tho you could keep cooking for a long time on those 8-12 briquets it uses....

Cheap to run, easy to use, great results every time. This little grill is one great invention.

Oh: Another well thought out feature is the carrying case...the designers actually made it big enough to comfortably carry the grill with ALL of its accessories stacked inside, AND you can pack your wood smoking chips, smoker, briquets and matches as well.

We camp and grill out often, and over the years we've used up, burnt up, and destroyed many a so called portable grill. The Cobb Grill is proving to be the best design we've tried for portability, function and just plain good looks. It fits perfectly in it's very handy carrying case. It's shape makes it easy to pack in with all our camping gear. It can cook a meal for four people on a hand full of coal in no time at all. And the darn thing looks good. Don't know what "ProAccurate" is supposed to mean but I compared temperature readings with two other thermometers and this one I received runs about 25 degrees too low. Not worth returning at shipping cost return rate so it goes in the trash as I await delivery of a commercial grade Comark GT500K that's listed at +/5 degree tolerance max.

This cover fits fairly well although somewhat loosely. This makes it susceptible to being blown off in the wind. Although clearly not intended for this purpose, the carry straps with the velcro handle binds can be wrapped underneath and 'velcro-ed' together to hopefully keep the cover from blowing away. I do anticipate the eventual failure of the velcro to grip. I suppose I'll have to use bungee straps after that.

I ordered this when I also ordered the gas grill by mistake. It came in a separate package but I kept it anyway because it managed to fit over the electric grill. This is a nice cover with firm stitching and heavy-duty canvas-type fabric. The seams allow it to fit the grill so it looks attractive.

I have other larger cast iron cookers, but this one works really well. It arrived on time which was a plus, i was required to assemble it which I did not know up front but thats ok. It allows me to ship it to other events in one box alot better than the stands which are welded together and are hard to re ship. I like this feature. the lid was bent like the other review that I read so I expected this. They really need to figure this shipping issue out as its a negitive. now for the actual use of the cooker. It cooked a 10 lb jambalaya really well. Actually perfect. The burner was much smaller than my other ones, but it really worked very well. No problems at all. Over all this cooker is a great cooker. As I have four other much larger ones, this one is perfect for the person who only needs a 10 gallon compacity. Lighter, more convienent to use. I also cooked a large portion of seafood gumbo and it worked just perfect. Great purchase. I give the pot and burner a five star, but since the lid was bent when i recieved it I can only give it a three star. I had to purchase another lid in order to use it for the rice cooking part.

Worth the money but consider the lid as non-existant. It was bent to hell when we opened the package; but no wonder, it's made of extremly light gauge aluminum. It's a little thicker than foil (Slight Embellishment) . No problem other than that. After contacting King Kooker, they replaced the lid without question. Just don't try to deal with Amazon. Ali Baba or whatever his name was, didn't have a clue as to replacing the lid. He offered me a little money, then a whole new pot, burner and lid instead of just the lid. Glad he dosen't work for my company!!! Must be a P.O.T.U.S. business advisor.

Can't honestly give this enough stars. Well worth the money. They need to improve on packaging the lid as mine came bent up like others had commented. But it was still useable. Stand is very stable and burner really puts out the heat.
