I've had my smokey for two years and have grilled everything from burgers to briskets and whole chickens. My neighbors' Webers collect dust in their garages-most of them have gone to gas-but I've stayed loyal to lump charcoal and think this is hands down one of the best charcoal grills you can get for the money. The grilling surface is ample--you could even do a few racks of ribs if you roll them and sent them on their ends. Like the Weber, PK, and Holland grills, Old Smokey has a small cult following. And, for good reason. The design provides the versatility to use either direct or indirect heat, so Old Smokey functions as both a grill and smoker. The 18 inch diameter grill is perfect for a small family, but if I could do it over I'd just go for the 22 inch model so I could cook for a larger crowd. You should spring for the leg extensions, otherwise the grill won't stand waist high and you'll do a lot of bending over or squatting to tend to your 'cue. Reserve the shorter legs that come with it for camping outings. As for aesthetics, I think the Old Smokey has a lot of character. It's a great conversation piece, and, unless you live in Texas, you'll be one of the only folks on your block to have one! It's a fantastic little grill for the money. The only drawback I've found is that the simple design makes it hard to add charcoal. Unlike the PK, the grill is one piece, so you have to remove the meat and grill to add more charcoal. A slight hassle, perhaps, but for a product priced at around $50, you really can't complain. If you are one of those folks who thinks, "they sure don't make things like they used to" then the Old Smokey is for you. Check out the company's web site. Got my Old Smokey this week, and after years of being a Weber man, I was just in the mood for something different. Something that you don't see at every house on the block. I was also attracted to the large clearance over the grill for things such as beer can chicken. I don't think the Weber 18" has enough clearance to do this, although the 22" Weber does, the 22" is just too big for what I need. I don't do too much smoking, mainly just grill steaks, burgers, BBQ chicken & the like, and for that, this grill is perfect. For the reviewer that said the top doesn't marry perfectly with the bottom. No it doesn't, but why would you want it to? It sits on it just fine, and you don't want an airtight seal on a BBQ anyways, or your coals would go out. Hence why you open the top & bottom vents... as far as smothering charcoal to save it for next time, the seal around the edge of the lid is good enough once you close the vents.

I highly recommend the long legs to go with this grillthe short legs that come with it only raise it to a little less than knee level.

I love this grill. It's the perfect size and it's easy to clean out the ash. I'm really glad I got the Old Smokey Long Legs with it because it raises it up to a manageable height. It's basic and simple. My boyfriend grills, not I, but he does a damn good job with this grill. So happy with this and it was so cheap too! Highly recommended!

Old Smokey does what it is supposed to do ! It smokes the food very well leaving a great flavor to what ever you decide to cook on this grill. It's not too large to transport where ever you want to do your grilling and, not too small to serve several people at home. The only draw back is that the placement of the top is not precise you have to make sure it is lined up or you will lose smoke and heat out the seam. But once it is lined up the grill does a fine job and, if you know what you are doing you will get compliments on the food you cook on this grill. Very easy to assemble.

We've had this grill for years, and love it. I've used those dinky overpriced Weber grills and spent the whole time fiddling with the dampers to get the oxygen just right...whatever. The Old Smokey cooks great and maintenance is easy. The design is squatty and sturdy, so it sits really steady (some other grills I'd hesitate use with kids and dogs running around). I recommend the Old Smokey to anyone who enjoys the flavor of charcoal grilling.

Ordered this grill/smoker after looking at all the makes and models of pellet grills. Traeger appeared to be the best. Arrived on time. Assembly was quick and easy. Three bolts in each leg, four to hold the burner/feeder assembly. Note: the item pictured, and the one I received is the Junior Elite. Bronze door, and Thermostat Controller (BBQ155). Title seems to suggest it's the Junior, with the controller upgraded (BBQ055).

Fired it up for initial burn in, as per instructions. The instructions are very good. The unit heats up quite fast (remember, it's burning wood, not Propane). Do not expect it to get to 450 degrees in 1-1/2 to 2 minutes like a propane grill, but within about 5 minutes or so, it can be there. Smoking temps are achieved very fast.

The digital thermostat is a must have. I can't see going to this level of grill, and using the three speed controller. Set it to desired temp, and the grill controls fuel and air to accommodate.

This grill is the small model, but don't expect a lightweight. It's 68 lbs. Nice heavy duty construction. Should last a very long time. 15" X 20" grilling area, is big enough to put a couple Briskets on. Lay out, two full racks of ribs, or use a rib rack, and do even more than that.

Comes with a recipe book to get you started. I did order the optional front shelf. (Traeger should make the shelves part of the package, not an add on.)

If you like pulled pork, Beef BBQ, and the great smell and flavor of cooking over wood....don't delay. Order one of these. I'm 100% satisfied with mine.

The assembly took me about an hour (female approved). Tested & Season according to directions. Had Steaks for Supper, Bacon for Breakfast and Pizza for lunch the next day. Already had a larger Traeger but needed this Junior for my patio.

I ordered this about a week ago at $299 plus $49 shipping and had it in about 7 days including weekends. As one of the reviewers notes, it is the Junior Elite with thermostat and bronzed doors.The pic is not accurate. Very happy about that given price compared to Traeger.com and the digital thermostat is a must. Well packed, nothing missing. Good quality, except rather thin metal. Ways around this and other stuff on pelletheads.com. There's much to learn about these things. Set-up was about 4 hrs because I added lawn mower wheels, 7 and 6 inch as described on a You Tube video. Very happy I did this, although added $50 or so to cost, plus drilling the 1/2 inch holes was a pain with a hand drill, but I did it. Measuring where to put the holes on the lege without holes for 6 inch wheels tricky. In the end level and up a bit higher, which I like alot. Followed all directions for start-up and no problems. Definitely get a good cover for it if left outside. I got a Weber for $50. I'll get a hopper extension soon, about $65....

Been smoking meat for some 20 years on various smokers and wanted one with less tending. Been wanting a traeger for many years. At this price it is a great deal to get into pellet smoking/grilling. If you have $1200 or so, get a Yoder or something. You can get just about anything on Amazon, better prices than stores, great service....

Despite what others have posted and the fact that this item appears during a search for Weber Genesis E-310, this regulator will not work properly. It is too short (by a lot the original hose is twice as long) to route the hose without stretching and also going in through the wrong way (directly under the grill box) which will result in melting over time and is not the way to route the hose according to the manufacturer instructions. The part that is needed is a 42" regulator #81603, which is very difficult to find online for some reason. I had to return this part to Amazon and reorder somewhere else. If you have the Weber Genesis model with the tank inside the cart/cabinet do not order this one!

This is the first thing I've purchased from Amazon that I felt compelled to review, simply because I don't think its actually the product that it is being claimed to be. After opening the shipped package from Amazon I found that the Weber package inside of that had already been opened and that the tamper seal had been cut. Then I opened that up to find that the regulator and hose were not at all like the one pictured both on the Weber packaging or the website, in fact on the packaging you can clearly see on the hose that it states it is Made in Canada, whereas on the one in the box it had Made in China. The regulator and hose I was replacing came with my weber grill and were substantially different from this one, which had very poor build quality and didn't feel substantial at all. Ultimately I think this seller is using the Weber packaging but selling off brand stuff. If I had wanted that I would have gone to Ace Hardware. Buyer beware.

The correct Weber box arrived, with the correct replacement part number and photo on the box. The part inside the box is a Chuan Hseng part, with an incorrect connector. The original part was threaded, and screws on. The part received does not have threads, and will not work. The part inside the box does not look like the part on the box. On the box is a part made in Canada, the part received is made in China. Obviously, the part is not an original Weber part, which would be OK if it works on a Weber grill, this part will not. The length was 21 inches as stated, and also 5/16" as stated. I had to return for a refund.

I should have listened to the other reviewer who said "not as advertised." I purchased this directly from Amazon, not from a 3rd party or a "fulfilled by Amazon" order. The hose and regulator arrived looking badly used, and does not look like a genuine Weber product. The packaging says Made in USA but the item itself says Made in China. Looks like Amazon received a bad/fake supply of these items. This is my first negative experience with Amazon and I have been shopping here for years.

It's a bit large for the electric grill, but it's well made and sturdy. Since it's a bit large, the wind sometimes blows it off the grill but the straps keep it on the deck so I don't have to go chasing it all over the neighborhood.

The bag is way too big for the grill. Also it being soft sided it allows the grill to freely roll around inside while being carried. Just will not work in the motor home. Ended up getting a plastic storage bin that works just fine. Keeping the bag to store the laundry however since that is sqishable.

Weber does a lousy job of describing this on their website, and Amazon compounds the problem. The box it comes in clearly states this grate fits all Summit grills made since 2007, which means the 400 and 600 Series. The dimensions are 19.25" x 11.75", making it an exact replacement for a standard cooking grate. It is a very nice charcoal starter, much smaller than the Weber and that is why I bought it, however it is not as pictured! The image shows an additional wire handle which is not there, I can only guess that it was redesigned by the manufacturer, but the label picture and the amazon picture was never updated. It works still fine, but I just don't like to get something different than shown.

It's a smaller charcoal starter, which makes it ideal for hibachis and small offset smokers. This item is also exceptionally well done. They cleverly shaped the chimney with a decided oval outline making unloading the hot charcoals a whole lot less hazardous. The internal peaked placement of the charcoals, a la Weber, makes it efficient as well. Well executed item.

bought this from home depot thought it was a great idea, modular and easy to assemble. then i put my chicken legs on it and everything went off the road. because this thing is nothing more than sheet metal on bent metal rods with tiny nicks in them to hold up and in place and the top kept falling when you put any significant weight on it. so unless you only eat 2 legs or wing sat a time i would suggest going elsewhere i ended buying the boyou classic one for less money and im much happier.

I bought 5 of these for my Costco Patio Range 84000BTU BBQ Grille. I had purchased the BBQ grille used and missing these heat plates, so I don't have a reference in terms of how tight or loose these new heat plates were supposed to fit. These appear to fit a little bit loose in the clips, but in no way does this affect how they function. I guess if you were to tip the BBQ on its side, they would fall out, but that is a moot point, as you wouldn't ever use it like that. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.

Nothing to complain about, everything is good, and as promised. Only thing is, there is no zipper on the sides, just a velcro catch to kinda tighten it up, my old zipper is what I was used to but nothing wrong with this one except it could be 10 inches longer.
