I've owned an older red hood Weber Genesis Propane grill for the last 14 years (bought new from Home Depot in '97) and it's still going strong, but I moved it up to our cabin last year and didn't have anything at home to grill with. I've been looking at various grills for the past 5 years online and in the local BBQ store and finally spent the money on this Summit. Webers have a reputation of lasting a long time as I experienced with my older one, and warranty to back it, and the build quality is top notch on this Summit. It arrives on a pallet and needs 2 adults to lift the grill off the plastic base, so factor that in when it's delivered. You can't do this with only one person.

I got my Summit E670 yesterday and my first impression was "wow, it's big!!". It assembled very easily (only 7 screws) and after getting 2 new propane cylinders+fills I cooked up my first dinner on it last night. It only uses 1 20# bottle, but I like to keep 2 in rotation in case I run low, or in case we need to use the grill in a disaster (it's part of our emergency food plan).

I really enjoyed using the front-to-back burner arrangement with the large cooking area. I was able to do 3 steaks at the same time. The 2 thinner ones cooked faster so I moved them to the other side over a lower flame to keep them hot and slow the cook rate while I finished the slightly thicker one in the hotter area. With my old Genesis they have a side-to-side burner arrangement which doesn't leave much room to get the faster cooking meats of the direct heat (I used to turn off the front burner and do indirect cooking there, but that's not easy with bigger steaks like a full tri-tip). I also had enough room to cook up corn, asparagus and brussel sprouts each wrapped in aluminum and 2 hot-dogs for my daughter. The Summit gets a lot hotter than my old Genesis, so there's a little adaption time if you are migrating to this unit from one of the smaller, lower BTU ones, but with 6 burners and lots of space, it really allows you to spread out if you need to.

The 2011 unit I got has a digital tank scale readout for the propane tank on the panel. The tank hanger just inside the right door also is marked with a scale, similar to the Genesis, so the fancy light-up scale is nice but not completely necessary. The knob lights are neat too, but are not really too useful since I grill on our deck and use an outside light when it's dark and I'm cooking. For the same reason, I haven't installed the 2 handle lights yet.

I have to say that the 2011 model is well thought out (as are all the Weber gas grills that I've seen). All the usual things are in the right place and easy to get to and use. I really liked the rotisserie spike hangers that are built into a shelf inside the left door and there's a slot under the right external burner to put the rod inside the lower area. Keeps everything tidy and organized.

It's personal choice, but I preferred the black enamel surfaces on the hood over the stainless since the eventual discoloration I've heard about on the un-enameled (shiny) metal hood would drive me nuts, and my old red hood on the Genesis has held up very well over the years (no chips or rusting). I really wished Weber still did the copper colored enamel still, but that was discontinued in 2009, and black is my 2nd choice... kind of like the old Model-T Fords... any color you want as long as it's black.

Love this grill and looking forward to many years of use. Happy grilling!

Moved into our new house in spring of 2009 and I had plans of buying a nice Weber shortly thereafter. My plans were shot when we got a stainless steel Aussie gas grill as a housewarming present. WTF! This isn't what I was going to buy, and I don't want it, take it back I thought to myself. Well I dealt with it and used if for about 2 years. The Aussie naturally rotted away from the inside out because it was an inferior product, and I was sure to help speed the process along every chance I could.

At the start of the 2011 summer, I couldn't take it. The Aussie wouldn't light nor stay lit. It was disgusting, flare ups were a common occurance, and I wanted my Weber. Started doing some shopping. Was really leaning towards a nice Genesis series as I thought the Summit at retail pricing was out of our price range. Then I really started researching the Genesis VS. Summit series. The Summit was truly magnificant in its features, appearance and most importantly construction.

I got it in my mindset to convice my wife that we must buy the Summit. Being instantly shot down, I persisted. She finally gave in and it was a wedding anniversary present to ourselves (myself). I chose to get the E-670 (black enamel) instead of the stainless as the stainless discolors and begins to look old and dirty with normal cooking. More on that later). So I began to shop for the Weber Summit E-670 LP. I kept my eye on Amazon and the prices were constantly hovering at $1815. Sure when it came time to pull the trigger, the price was almost $100.00 more. So I didn't buy it from Amazon but I did get it from an appliance dealer on the eastcoast for $1576.00 delivered.

I have never been so exited I think. The freight carrier pulled up the driveway, opened the back end and there it was, the only item in the truck. The driver wheeled it up to the garage and I anxiously tore open the outer carton and unpaked the grill.

The grill itself is about 95% assembled. It comes resting in a large plastic tray. The directions clearly stated three people are needed to remove the grill from the tray, but I was so anxious I couldn't wait. I got it out by myself without and damage my new grill.

Assembly literally took about 30 minutes. Removing the plastic protective film was the most tedious part. Sidetables go on, flavorizer bars are inserted, grates and smoking box are inserted, grill out lights, battery pack, and rotisserre motor are snapped into place. That is it, about eight screws and the grill is assembled.

I anxiously had a BBQ the next day for about 20 people from work. The grill was described as magnificant, awesome, a beast, huge, you get the idea. This is a man's grill. I am not talking about some huge grill from the big box stores that is all hype and doesn't deliver. This thing is a tank! I refuse to spend money on inferior products. This grill is awesesome. Construction is rock solid, materials are quality, and fit and finish is second to none. The 9.5MM stainless steel cooking grates are rock solid and create really nice sear marks and are easy to clean.

PROS:

Grill out lights are not gimmicky. They really are nice and work well.

Rotisserre motor and infrared burner is awesome. Cooked a 9lb pork loin rost in about 90 minutes. Was best pork roast we have ever eaten.

Sear station truly works well. 1.5 inch steaks with beautiful cross hatch marks and nice char crust with ease.

LED tank and mechanical scale do work well.

Tool hanger hooks are nice

Haven't used smoker box yet.

The black enamel finish is real nice. Doesn't show smoke stains and discoloration. To clean up the stainless spots that were affected by smoke, I use some Bar Keeper's Friend. Works wonders. A little soap and water to clean the enameled surfaces and the grill always looks like new.

About twenty BBQ's into its certain long life, and it never dissapoints. I am overwelmed with a cheesy grin when I walk out onto the deck to grill now. I can not offer enough praise.

CONS:

Cost well worth the investment. Most people can get 20 years out of a Weber. Say you only get 10, thats about $160.00 a year. You can't even get $100 junker tailgate size grill from the big box stores to last a year.

OTHER:

Uses fuel pretty fast. I have three tanks in rotation, two would suffice.

BOTTOM LINE, DON'T HESTITATE. TAKE THE HIT, YOU WON'T REGRET IT. I would buy this grill again in an instant. Justifying the price from the Genesis, you get extra cooking surface, the rotisserre and burner, smoker box, and just that wow factor from the sheer size of this grill. Best part is the rock solid construction that backs up its great looks. I love my 2011 Weber Summit E-670

UPDATE 01-2012

Used the smoker and rotisserrie multiple times. AMAZING. Cooked a 18lb turkey on Thanksgiving, best turkey we ate that day (1 of 5 = large family). Rotisserrie cooks large roasts nicely. Cooked a 7lb prime rib roast, 16lb pork roast, 18lb boneless ribeye roast and the results are constantly amazing. Infrared rear burner gives a delectiable crust and sears the meat nicely. Purchased mine when the price was amazing, as anything the cost of manufacturing has risen and the price now shows. Don't hesitate.

Also, we purchased a Weber Genesis EP-330 in copper as a Christmas gift for my parents. The EP-330 has the stainless steel cooking grates 7mm vs Summits 9mm and stainless flavorizer bars. A Assebly was a breeze, and that is a truly quality grill for those of you contemplating spending a little less. I love my Weber grill!

UPDATE 8/2013

I can cook three squares a day on the grill. No joke. I have turned into a culinary monster on the BBQ. This grill is amazing. You don't even know what you're missing out on kids. I. All seriousness, grill still performs lie new and looks great. It doesn't look brand new. It looks like its been used a lot, cared for deeply, cleaned meticulously, and appeased many hungry souls. Still rock solid like the day it rolled off the back of the truck three years ago.

And I cooked up nine slabs of baby backs. Lord Jesus, they were so good they made you wanna smack yo momma. The low and slow method ain't no joke. Some hickory smoke, a good rub and a good vinegar sauce. You don't even know what you missed.

I looked high and low, far and wide to find the perfect grill. A few years back I bought a "members professional" grill from a wholesale club. I thought I had finally bought my last grill. I was wrong. The exterior and grates may have been stainless, but drip pan, burners, screws, legs and other parts rusted out. What a waste of money and time. Not with this beauty! I was in awe of the quality of the construction. You could see they paid attention to every little detail. I know this grill will not rust out even in our humid environment. I cannot say enough about the quality of this grill; it has everything I could ever hope for in a grill.

And the most important part of a grill how well it grills. The sear zone of this thing is incredible. I am amazed at how hot my grill gets. I sear mouth-watering steaks at 650 degrees. I had an 'infared' burner on my other grill. It got up to maybe 500 degrees. Nowhere close to the Weber. I ruined dinner the first time I cooked on it because I didn't believe the instructions that said to sear your meats for just a minute or two on each side. Now I know. Each time I walk out to grill, I have a big smile on my face knowing that I finally found the perfect grill. And it doesn't hurt that all of my friends are jealous.

Honest reviews on Weber Summit E-670 769-Square-Inch Grill, Black

Best Grill I've ever owned. It arrived last night from amazon, it was mostly put together, probably took 30 minutes or so to do the finish assembly. When it was all put together I almost hated to cook on it, it was so beautiful. By the time I got it put on the deck it was well after sunset. The lighting on this grill, while simple, is one of my favorite features. The searing station worked as designed, it put a very nice grill marks on the meat and sealed in the juices, a very nice feature. Well constructed, and the propane scale is a great feature as well. Honestly I can't think of anything I would change to improve this unit.

I definitely do not regret my decision to spend the extra money on the Summit.

First of all, I was amazed at how quickly this arrived! Ordered on a Monday, got it on a Thursday! It shipped on a full size tractor-trailer truck, and as it turned out, the big rig couldn't navigate the hills in my neighborhood. The shipper contacted me several times to give me status updates, and finally to arrange a meeting location a few blocks from my house. Fortunately, I have a pickup and was able to get it home from there. Be advised, this is a BIG package!

It comes mostly assembled, and only took about 30 minutes of assembly time, plus another 30 minutes of ooh-ing and ahh-ing. This grill exudes quality, and the unpacking was an event that my wife and I savored like giddy children on Christmas morning. There is surprising heft to the grill grates and rotisserie components. Even the drip pan is heavy guage stainless steel--puts our old big box grill to shame.

Several reviewers mentioned how hot this grill gets, and it really does! Not wanting to ruin an expensive cut of meat, we played it safe and made blue cheese stuffed burgers. No problem! The heat is easily controlled and it's even from front to back, side to side. We've sinced grilled perfect steak, turned some lovely whole chickens on the roitisserie, and roasted supreme asparagus and other veggies. After about a month of ownership, we are completely thrilled and utterly in love with this grill. You will be, too.

I wasn't sure how well the grill lights would work and I am tickled with their output. We often cook after dark, and the lights point right at your work, with only the last maybe one quarter of the grill not directly lit, which isn't much of a problem. The illuminated control knobs are a neat party trick, but so far haven't proved very useful. They sure look cool, though.

All told, we are absolutely delighted with our new Weber grill. The quality is amazing, it looks superb, and it delivers a first rate cooking experience. It has loads of room for some serious cooking and will be a long and welcome member of our culinary family.

I had never heard of the Texsport brand name before so I had some reservations about buying it. But the price was right so I rolled the dice. When I pulled it out of the box I was a bit disappointed. The hinges on the lid seemed a bit flimsy. But everything else seemed to be pretty good. The frist time I used it I was impressed. I have a cast iron pan and the side burner heated that up really quickly! When it came time to cook some burgers on the grill portion it was very windy. The side panels provide very good wind protection and the grill heats up nicely. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. All that's left now is to see how long it lasts.

worked like a charm....easy to use and fired up everytime with one push of the button...good product and Amazon has great price

Honest reviews on Texsport Insta-Light Propane Stove and Grill

I received the stove/grill in record time and was in perfect condition. It was exactly as advertised. Is easy to use and fits my needs to a tee.

Just a couple comments:

1. The starter does not start the grill portion. You have to use either a match or lighter to get it going.

2. It would be nice if the item had a carrying handle for easier transporting.

3. The base does NOT get hot or even warm so you can place it on a table cloth without worrying about if it will catch fire.

4. On the burner it took 5 minutes to bring a quart of cold water to a boil weather on full throttle or at half throttle. All the adjustments is in the first half settings.

5. Keep watch on the grease catcher to insure it does not overflow when grilling. It could have been a bit larger.

If a person wants both a grill and a burner, this is the perfect choice and I completely recommend it

The product is just ok, nothing to write home about. Item arrived with chipped paint so not sure how durable its going to be in the long term. I was a little disappointed in the size, it is a little too narrow to completely keep the grate from moving from side to side while removing it from the kettle. Otherwise it does what it's supposed to do. Would have been worth $10 if I bought it locally but once shipping was added in, I don't feel it was worth the $18 I paid.

Now, about the shipping, and this is not reflected in the stars I gave this product. The three stars I gave this item here is for the item itself and not the seller, but there were not enough characters available in the seller review for me to include my experience so I'm including it here. With all that said, the first package I received was empty. The seller sent this in a small bubble wrapped envelope that tore open at the top and apparently the item fell out at some point during shipping. I was charged $8 for shipping and when I went to the USPS site to check what the shipping should be, the shipping costs were estimated at only $3. With that extra $5, the company could have sprung for a small box or something. They did ship a replacement almost immediately once I notified them, which was nice, but they sent the second one to me in a slightly larger bubble wrapped envelope that also arrived with a tear in it. Luckily, this one didn't fall out of the opening, but you are shipping a heavy piece of metal for crying out loud... package it appropriately. The item also arrived with chipped paint, which was probably due to the poor packaging. Anyway, I give them kudos for replacing it quickly, but it really could have been avoided all together if they would have taken a little time and effort to properly package it for shipping.

This tool is quite necessary if you buy the Craycort cast iron grate because you need a way to lift the grate sections to add or move coals. I think the item is a bit over priced for what it is and, in fact, just last week I found a beautiful old one in an antique store for $2.50. These were used a century ago when women cooked on wood stoves and needed a way to lift the burners--same exact thing. I think that one could find a much cheaper (and prettier) substitute at a flea market or antique shop but that said, having a tool like this is definitely a MUST with a cast iron grill.

Best Deals for Lifting Handle for Craycort Cast Iron Grate

It may seem pricey at first glance but it is well worth what you pay for it! It holds the grates steady when you move them and, if you really want to get fancy, I use mine to leverage caps off my beer bottles as I grill.

Honest reviews on Lifting Handle for Craycort Cast Iron Grate

Simple straightforward device. Hook it into the grate and lift. It slides between the bars pretty easily and its stable during the carry. Not much side to side sway and I am able to drop the grate back into the pit without much fanfare. This sure beats the tongs and forks I used on my old grill.

Happy with this product.

The handle could be longer and a leather loop for hanging would be nice but this is a must have if you purchase the round cast iron grate quarters. You'll find just which grates to lift from for perfect balance.

This item does work however it gives you very little notice as to when the tank is empty. Once it says that your tank is low you had better have a spare one ready because you will likely run out of gas before you finish cooking.

I grill a lot of salmon at picnics and such. Using a regular, or even "grill size" spatulas makes a big mess of the fillets sometimes.

This is so wide allows you to scrape it loose from the grill and lift big fillets onto a platter.

On my second one. The first one was swiped!

Pros: package arrived quickly. product looks made of good material. Cons: The wood handle was twisted, then read the label and it reads "Not recommended for porcelain grates". Did not see that on product description anywhere, and it was made in china.

This is a sturdy, larger spatula for your grilling activities.

It features a nice wood handle with plenty of length and, a useful side edge for such things as scoring burgers. You can tell that it has been carefully machined. Has a really nice metal finish too. It's particularly convenient for barbecuing large-sized hamburgers. Be sure to score (#) each side of your burger prior to cooking for nice flat, uniform shape.

It appears that Napoleon has changed the design of the Apollo cover in light of the concern expressed in the previous comment (June 2011). Napoleon has replaced the vertical vent screen on top with a horizontal vent screen "ring" around the side. (You can see it in the product photo---the dark ring above the Napoleon insignia.) My initial experience (owned for one month) suggests this solves the earlier problem: no rain water has found its way into my smoker, yet the screen still allows the covered smoker to "breathe" when not in use.

Otherwise, the cover is a lot like the product it protects: a well-made, thoughtful "tweak-up" of Weber's original product. The cover includes a small sleeve on top that covers the handle, a grommet on top that allows you to hang up the cover when its not on the grill, and a draw string at the bottom so you can tighten down the cover. The cover is made of medium-thick material which I suspect will prove sturdy enough. It is only single-stitched, but the stitching looks good (no crooked stitches, or stitching too close to the edge). Bottom line: If you take decent care of it, this cover should last quite a while, which means your Apollo will last quite awhile.

And let's admit it: the big Napoleon insignia on the side looks pretty cool.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

The cover appears to be made of durable materials and will probably last for a good long time. However, the cover has a major drawback that has me looking to find another cover. The cover features a 3-inch ventilation strip that is suppose to keep moisture from building up inside the cover. Instead, the ventilation strip allows rain water in and the water ends up pooling on the bottom section of the Apollo smoker. This is not a good thing if it is allowed to stand for very long. Also, the cover is a tight fit and a bit tough to get on and off the smoker. Unlike the Weber Smokey Mountain smoker, the Apollo 3-in-1 smoker does not come with a cover and the cover must be purchased. Looks like I am going to purchase a large Weber Smokey Mountain cover to keep my new Apollo dry. Not happy!

I had been looking for a new brush for a while, and after reading the other reviews I decided this was a good choice for the money.

The package arrived and I opened it up, pulled out the brush, and it immediately fell to pieces in my hand.

This brush has two halves, the top half, a wooden handle, And a bottom half, a plastic mold holding the steel bristles. The two halves are held together with four screws.

My brush arrived with the two halves separated, and all the screws had fallen out. At first I thought "no big deal, I can just put it back together, and it will work fine", at this point I was a little annoyed that the product had shown up this way and now I was having to put it together myself.

However, I am unable to put the brush together myself because the screws wont go far enough into the plastic, they only go about 1/4 of an inch into the plastic, and the two halves will just not stay together.

I'm going to have to use some super glue or buy slightly longer screws to fix this thing.

I probably won't even bother fixing it actually. This was a waste of money and my time spent trying to fix it.

Very disappointed with this product, I should have spent my money on something that was constructed a bit more solid.

To the manufacturer/seller, Don't be so cheap, use screws that are long enough to hold your product together.

The brush completely fell apart as I removed it from the packaging when it arrived. All four screws that hold the wood handle to the plastic base of the brush bristles pulled loose and came apart. The screws seem too short to really hold on to the plastic base.

Stainless High Heat Charcoal Fire Grate Upgrade for Large Big Green Review

Stainless High Heat Charcoal Fire Grate Upgrade for Large Big Green Egg Grill
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

This product is absolutely perfect for the Big Green Egg. Love the BGE but the company needs to ditch the ash grate they are using now and use this one instead. It allows the BGE to hit and stabilize faster at high temps. But much more important to me..........it's make low and slow smoking a thousand percent easier. Before getting the High Que grate and during 12 to 28 hour cooks (Brisket and Pork Butts) I would have to get up a couple times during the night and use a wiggle rod to keep the temp stable at 250 dome, now I sleep like a rock all night and the temp holds steady. Oh, that is so nice. I have two friends that recently purchased BGE and I told them to order the High Que as soon as they decided to get the Egg. If I ever get another Egg there will a High Que grate waiting for the Egg to get my house. Yes, I believe it's that important. The grate arrived two days after placing the order. Wondeful service. You will use a bit more lump because the ash openings in this grate are bigger, the diameter of nickel (give or take) can fall through to the fire box. Whatever, when I cooking a $40.00 dollar brisket or 30 pounds of pork butt, I personally don't care if I use a "extra" half pound of lump. Just Saying! If you have BGE this a must have for those long and slow cooks! Happy Smoking!!

This grate has made my BGE life so much easier it's incredible. Everything they say about it is correct. Newspaper lighting really works, ash falls easily, and air flow is greatly improved (this is the big one for me). Yesterday, I lit some paper under the grate, then a couple of minutes later tried to light it from the top with a starter. The up-draft kept blowing out the starter! Over 400 in 10-15 minutes. Every egg should have one.

I have used this grate 3 times now and have to say that it is indeed an instant upgrade. As others have said, I think the BGE company should make this standard issue. With the cast iron OE grate, I usually had a bit of trouble adjusting the temps... probably just me. With this grate in place, I have a fire ready for cooking in about 15 minutes and can maintain accurate temperatures quite easily. I am in the middle of a brisket cook right now...I started the Egg with my new electric BGE charcoal starter, let it heat up to 225 degrees (which only took another 8 or 9 minutes) then put the meat on. I adjusted the daisy wheel so just the "petals" were open and closed the bottom vent to about 1/2 inch open. The temperature settled to 225 in about 1/2 hour as the meat warmed up and remained exactly there for the next three hours. I have put the meat into a foil pan for the remaining time. The temp is still rock steady at 225. Others have commented at the relatively high cost of this upgrade, but I think it is definitely worth every penny. It is very solidly made and truly a quality item made in the USA. You get what you pay for, and this grate should last a very long time.

Honest reviews on Stainless High Heat Charcoal Fire Grate Upgrade for Large Big Green

This product is well built with heavy duty bars. I have had it for 2 months now and I suspect it will outlast the original fire plate it replaced.

Now the good and the bad:

Pro:

1. Lighting the grill is extremely easy now. I use a parafin lighter block, drop it below the fire grate and I am up to cooking temps in 15 mins.

2. Clogging of airflow is now a non issue.

3. Much easier to get up to high heat for searing steak, pizza. Easily reach 700 in 20-25 mins.

4. I use a bbq guru (PID device) for my low and slow cooks and with this fire grate there are zero air flow problems and temperature is spot on.

Cons:

1. The fire will quickly stoke up with lid open and can run away from you if not paying attention

2. Increased fuel use. More fuel will fall through grate and there is increased ash production.

3. I beleive without a bbq guru (PID device) it would be challenging to hold the low temperatures where you want as it seems even with the vents cracked temp creeps up. But, as said I haven't personally been using it for this.

Overall, I think this is a great product. Just be aware (as the product actually says) you will have to grow accustume to the new temperature profile. Personnally, a little extra fuel use is a no problem for the ease of lighting, speed to cooking, ease to get to high heat steak temp, and ease for bbq guru.

The cross bars are spaced too far apart from each other, so pieces of lump fall thru to below. I bought two grates, placed them 90* from each other, and bolted together with 2 carriage bolts/nuts/washers, so I had square spaces to below and 2 handles sticking up to give a shake to clear the ash. Works great with the 2-grate setup, but expensive. Should last a long time, but shouldn't be a problem to begin with if the cross bars were closer. Way better than the factory grate from BGE (awful).

This is useful and fun, what more could you ask ? You can use one or two probes. The probes are connected to the transmitter, you then turn on the remote, then the transmitter. I use it for everything, steaks, chops, whatever. I go into the living room and watch the remote. When the temperature gets over about 100 I turn the meat over if necessary. The only thing I have noticed is the temperatures that trigger the audible alarm are set too high, likely thanks to lawyers. For example, when I set it to medium rare for beef, it was more like medium. Now I set it on rare ( 140 ) and get a perfect medium rare. For pork the number is 170. I take it off at 160. After all, it continues to cook after it is taken off. Before I bought this I used to guess but now I get perfect results every time. Highly recommended.

This thing is very handy. I am just getting the hang of a new smoker, and bought this so I did not have to be chained to the smoker on hot summer days.

I put one probe in the smoker to measure heat temp, and the other in a pork shoulder. It alternates back and forth between the two, constantly keeping me update. the convenience is awesome. Allows me to work on my computer and take care of customers while I smoke my meat.

This is the first time I've used it, so I don't know about battery life, but regardless, it is great. The radio reception works great through an outside and one interior wall.

UPDATE (June 30, 2012): In the years since I wrote this review, I've bought another one just like it so I can monitor up to 3 pieces of meat while monitoring the smoker temp. I've cooked a lot with these, and have never regretted buying them. Seriously cannot imagine life without it. BUY. IT. NOW.

Great product, I can have a steak and chicken on at the same time and don't have to keep going back to the BBQ to check if they are done. The down side is that it goes through batteries quickly but with rechargeable not a major problem.

This transmitter works flawlessly. The dual-probes let you track two meats or if you are like me and like to cook things at low (200-250 degree) temperatures it is invaluable to free you from having to sit next to the grill the whole time.

You can set your own custom temperature you want it to alert you at if none of the presets work (in my case I just set one of them up to beep if it goes above 275 so I know it is getting too hot...)

Unlike other wireless transmitters this one is rated up to 500 degrees... and if it gets out of range it will display "HHH" instead of just frying itself like other brands probes. If a probe should ever go bad Maverick will replace it for free (instructions in the box tell you where to mail it to)

The only reason this thermometer doesn't get 5 stars is because the interface is not completely intuitive... You really do have to read the manual to figure out how to do basic things like reset the countdown timer, or set the clock. The other thing keeping it from being a 5-star unit is the lack of setting a "temperature floor" that you want it to beep if it gets "below" which would be useful for when I'm using it as a gril thermometer.

The few drawbacks aside: this is an excellent unit that works wonderfully well. Heck it even comes with batteries! Buy it today and you wont regret it.

UPDATE: 2010 -

This thing died on me after about a year of using it. For most things now I use a thermapen, and for wireless stuff I use a stoker connected to wifi so I haven't missed this very much.

I would no longer recommend this unless you are looking for a cheap thermometer that might not last that long.

I was hesitant to buy given some of the reviews, but it seems to work well. Temps from the two probes are within 1-2 degrees of each other, and the signal gets through to the receiver which is about 40 feet away inside the kitchen. I thought at first it wasn't working, but it seems as if the unit only transmits when the temperature changes. So if you are testing it and it's just sitting outside and the temperature is stable, it looks like it's not working. It does occasionally miss a transmission, so the receiver might be a few degrees off from the transmitter, but then it seems to catch up on the next transmission ten or twenty seconds later. This is not the best way to design this, but it seems to work well enough. The controls are a little clunky, hence the 4 stars, but it does seem to work for me. Also, you can customize the settings for doneness, despite reviews to the contrary, but you have to read the instructions and realize that there are two temperature tables -actually it's quite flexible. It does lose all the settings including the time of day if you turn it off, but there's a standby mode that only runs the clock. Again, not the best design, and they could probably have made it more robust for another $5, but it works well as a basic temperature monitor, and is sure beats running in and outside all day to monitor the smoker temperature.

Ordered these for bbq beef teriyaki and was very happy with the results. The quality of these skewers is far nicer than the garden variety found in supermarkets and discounts stores. After the recommended soaking in water to avoid burning on the grill, I found these to be sturdy and not splintery. Great product!

Used these to grill shrimp. Works well. I think the price is a little high. I throw away the bamboo skewers after one use so the high quality on this product may be overkill. I would settle for a flimsier set if it were cheaper.

The dividers are too tall and too close. Thicker ribs get stuck and are a pain to pull out. Narrow Short or St Lewis style fit ok but have a tendency to curle. I've found a better rack since.

This didn't fit in my grill until I made some modifications with a hammer and pliers. Now it fits fine. It's pretty thin steel. I don't know how long it will last at high temp.

Considering that it would have cost about the same for me to get a blank piece of stainless steel at my local hardware store and have to do ALL the shaping myself... I guess I came out ahead by having it already the right width and tent shaped. But don't expect to "plug and play".

Oh yeah, it came out of the box bent (the wrong way). It is too thin and not correctly protected. If it was thicker steel it might have survived better.

Product worked well. Fixed a grill so we did not have to buy a new one. Would help if it did say it would fit up to a certain size grill interior. We had to guess on size.

when this thing is heated, it loses its shape and becomes disfigured. Very disappointed. Would not recommend it!
