My wife an I like to enjoy a glass of wine by the fire. Previously we lived in an area where we could have a real fire and just relax. We recently moved to a restricted area where we could not burn wood. We purchased this pit because it was the largest of the portable units (most camp areas around here have burn bans during summer droughts). We were pleasantly surprised at the inital quality of the unit (only time will tell on actual quality) The paint has a thick enduring feel and the weight seems substantial.

We have so far found that on a mid 60*F night we only turn the pit on less than half way. At full tilt it is more than a comfortable temperature.

Our only complaint is that the images are clearly photshopped. The flames that we get at full are about a foot tall. We do not get any of the two foot flames that are pictured. the flames are proportional to the size and more than adequate for us. I will post pictures when we fire it up this weekend.

I purchased one of these portable outdoor fire pits and love it. I use it on my patio in Pacific Northwest evenings and it's always the center of attention. My friends and family love it because we always end up outside longer than usual. Setup and teardown is quick and easy. The rocks that come with the unit cool down very quickly I can box it up 10 minutes after turning it off. It pumps out heat (way more than I expected), and 1/2 a standard size propane tank lasted for multiple hours at the highest flame setting. There is zero odor or smoke it's very clean burning. The hose length is more than ample to keep the propane tank a safe distance from the flame, and out of the way of chairs to surround the fire. I can without hesitation recommend this product.

We recieved this fire pit a few days ago and we love it! We have had fire restrictions since June 18 in our area for open campfires. A friend of ours got a similar product, but we decided on this one instead of one like theirs. We are so glad we did. There is very little odor (if any} from the propane burning.(and I could smell theirs) It is great not to have any smoke to run from! We have been burning it on the lowest setting and it is perfect for us. I'm sure when it gets colder we will want to turn it up some, but it still puts out good heat on low. If you are just a few feet away it really looks just like a wood campfire burning. We would recommend this fire pit to anyone wanting an alternative to the wood campfire.

We've tried a few different wood fire bowls and friend's houses and always came away smelling like a chimney. We considered getting a chiminea as well, but those can be finicky and take up a lot of space. This propane fire bowl seemed an ideal solution and after breaking it out during a recent snow storm, we're pretty satisfied.

As another reviewer stated the bowl is actually black, and not the polished bronze that's pictured. They really need to fix the picture. While it didn't make a difference for me, I'm sure some people care more about their decor than I do. It's also smaller than a comparable wood fire bowl. The pictures lack context so this is hard to discern, but it may be a good bit smaller than you expect. Great for portability, but I wouldn't try to get more than 4-5 people around it.

The bowl assembled very quickly and within 10min or so I had it hooked-up to my extra propane tank and away we went. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference in terms of flame size between the High and Low settings (neither came close the picture), but either way it puts off a good amount of heat without all the nasty smoke and there is a discernable flame, which is nice.

So far we're happy with the purchase. We'll see if it stands the test of time. Would give it 5 stars, but the wrong bowl color and somewhat misleading flame in the picture and I'll call it a solid 4.

Received this a few days ago at a vacation home in Jackson Hole.

Set up was a breeze. It appears to be well made and the metal is reasonably thick. burner control is nice, reminds me of a Weber. A big feature that should be included (but is not) is an ignitor! Bending over with a lighter or match is a little awkward and did put my bearded mug a little too close to the initial flames in my opinion.

We have a bulk LP tank with a quick connect for our existing BBQ so I ordered an extension hose with quick connect end, removed the LP hose that came attached to this unit, attached the quick connect an voila! a nearly unlimited supply...though I suspect without some diligence our gas bill could be hefty.

Unit is sitting on a wooden deck which was a concern for me. The wood below the fire bowl is slightly warm to the touch after burning on high for about an hour. The appears to be about 3" of clearance which doesn't sound like much but seems to allow any radiated heat to dissipate.

Another complaint is the color. It appears to be brownish or perhaps rust online. The unit arrived black.

Sitting here below the Tetons as the sun sets this unit is keeping the chill at bay.

This basket is large and made of good materials. However, the openings in the wire mesh are simply too large for most vegetable pieces. What is worse is that all the way around the basket, where the side meets the bottom, are very large openings that allow thick potato or pepper slices to fall out when you flip the basket over. Plan on cutting very large pieces if you want to grill vegetables with this basket (maybe 4 pieces from an average Bell pepper for example).

That's what I use it for, just fish. Two problems with it. Given the locking mechanism you just cannot use it for very think fish. Even a decent thickness of Salmon is difficult to cook. Next time I will get one with way more thickness and then maybe I could lock the handles together and they actually stay together when I want to turn the fish over. This one just falls apart. That's the second problem, it does not lock together well at all.

I really like this grill basket. It has enough room to cook three salmon steaks and even has room to spare to cook asparagus while we are cooking the fish. There were no blemishes or chips in the wood, and everything was delivered in great shape. I also didn't have the problem cleaning the basket that some other reviewers had. I spray Pam on it before I use it, and clean up is a cinch.

This butane stove is sturdy and strong. It's big enough that you don't have to worry about the whole thing tipping over, the way you do with a tiny camping stove.

The butane canister kind of looks like a large bottle of hairspray. It's simple to install the butane canister you just put the canister in there gently and flip a lever to connect it there's no chance that you will get it in there the wrong way. (You don't have to pour any fuel in with a funnel, or anything smelly like that.) When you are ready to store away the stove, you just disconnect the butane canister, pop the plastic cap back on, and put it away.

I found out that butane canisters can be purchased on the web, but the shipping costs are more than the cost of the canisters, so it's easier to buy them locally at restaurant supply stores, or sporting/camping stores. On the other hand, if you are in the middle of a big weather disaster, and every store in town is sold out of butane canisters, then who cares about how much it costs. Thankfully UPS and Fedex deliver will stuff to your door, even in the middle of a winter wind/ice storm. Normally a butane canister costs about $2 or $3, and lasts around 3 hours. It's better to have a few in the garage, because they sell out pretty fast during a big windstorm, even in a metro city area.

This is a great stove for when the power goes out. The next time we get a windstorm, and the power goes out for 3 days, like it did during the big windstorm of Jan 2007 in the metro Seattle area, I'm all set.

By the way, I would recommend getting a butane stove even if you have a generator, because you will need the generator to run some lights and a heater. It's not much fun to have to disconnect the heater and the lights from the generator, , in freezing weather. With a butane stove, you can have your coffee, and your lights and heater too. It makes life much more pleasant during a long power outage.

The stove comes in a nice case and is lightweight. You have to be careful to line up the groove in the butane canister and turn over the burner plate to expose the pot holders. It starts easily and has a variable flame. We got it primarily for when the power goes out and wanted a clean burning unit that we could use indoors. Butane is a cleaner burning fuel than the white gas used in our old camping equipment and this is a much more stable stove as well.

I wanted a portable butane stove to use in emergencies. I spent a long time reading reviews of different models, and had a hard time making a rational decision because, to tell the truth, stoves of this kind hardly differ in their feature sets at all. They all use the same 8oz butane canisters, all have piezoelectric igniters and let you adjust the flame from high down to nothing. As far as I know they're all light (including this one -some online data I saw gave its weight as 7 lbs., which is misleading at best as it's really more like 4) and I think most of them come in a plastic case. I finally chose this one because it had many reviews on Amazon, most of them positive, featured a 10,000 BTU burner, and had a carrying case right in the product photo so I knew for sure it came with one.

Although I only expect to use my stove in emergencies, I tested it out when I first got it. I put a pan of water on, and it boiled in a very reasonable time. However, there are some annoyances that I have to point out. First of all, as others have said, you have to make sure the notch on the fuel can is lined up with the pin on the fitting before you press down the lever that pulls the can into the fitting. Unfortunately there's no kind of guide to help you line it up, you just have to eyeball it. In contrast, I found an instructional video for the Sterno ActionStation stove, and it has a little tab that folds down into the slot so you know it's lined up correctly. In hindsight that would be a nice feature to have. Second, when you do push down the lever, the torque of the lever-driven assembly pulling the fuel can into the fitting causes the entire stove to bend a little bit out of shape until things are fully seated. This is a little alarming, so it would be nice if the stove were just a little more rigid. Third, the control knob is a little wobbly so it's hard to tell whether you have the gas set on "max" or "min" without actually looking at the flame. Finally, like most butane stoves of this kind, this model has only four supports for your pot or pan to sit on (as opposed to my kitchen range, which has eight). This makes it seem a bit precarious if you're using a small-diameter saucepan. It would be nice if the supports extended a little farther toward the center of the burner to provide better stability.

All in all, this stove is just fine and I'm going to keep it, but I can't give it five stars.

During the recent winter storms, I lost power for most of a weekend. With no way to cook (my stove is electric), I lived on crackers & cheese and cereal in frigid temperatures. I vowed that I was not going to go through another power outage like that, so I came to Amazon to find a solution.

I found and ordered this product and, while I haven't actually cooked on it yet, I have assembled it (with a butane canister that I purchased separately) and turned it on several times. It is very easy to set up, but there are a few things that I feel potential buyers should know:

1) It wasn't immediately obvious to me (and no instructions were included) that the burner top is shipped upside down, not right side up as shown in the product picture. So, upon opening the carrying case, you need to lift out the burner top and flip it over. Note that there are curved sides and a straight side--the burner will only fit into the stove one way, so you'll need to line up the curves on the burner with the curves on the stove for it to fit right.

2) When you insert the butane canister into the stove, look for an opening (a cutout of sorts) on the lip at the top of the butane can. Line up that opening with the stove's receptacle and then push down the lever on the front of the stove to lock it in place. If you put in the butane canister and you don't get a flame when you turn on the stove, it is likely because you did not align the canister properly (this happened to me twice).

3) Some reviewers have reported not being able to find butane canisters to fit this stove at their local hardware store. I bought a 4-pack of canisters on Amazon. If you do the same, be very careful to review shipping costs before adding it to your cart. Most if not all of the butane on Amazon isn't sold by Amazon but by other sellers and some of the shipping costs are outrageous--some are more than the cost of the butane! (I'm told that because butane is a flammable substance, the seller may have to pay an extra fee to ship it.)

4) The butane does put off fumes, so you'll need to use the stove in a ventilated area. I imagine most buyers of this product use it for camping, but I'm buying it for a cooking source during a power outage, so I'd use it on my balcony or outside my house.

5) Be careful about storing your butane canisters. My initial thought was to store them in the garage, but in the summer my garage gets quite warm, so I don't think it would be safe to store them there year-round.

I love that the stove comes in its own carrying case, so that I can store it easily and safely when it's not in use (which, in my case, will be most of the time). This way, I don't have to worry about dust and bugs getting in it and having to clean it each time before I can use it.

We got a Little Chief top-load smoker (the only version made back then) for our wedding in 1971. We caught lots of salmon back then, and half of it went into this smoker. Alder wood is best with salmon, and I just finished smoking 3 pounds of it this afternoon. That same little smoker works every time, and should last a few more years, at least. I actually looked into getting another, but decided to use this until the heating element finally quits (it's the original). It's old, dark, and crusty, and I think we've used it over 250 times, but after 41 years of great service, it now is part of the family (a smelly part, though). Happy smoking!

P.S. Realize that this unit is a smoker, but NOT a cooker. Some meats will need to be cooked in another, hotter, appliance in addition to being smoked with the Little Chief. Salmon, however, does just fine with only smoking. Sometimes I smoke the brined chunks for 6 hours or so. The fish chunks get darkened on the outside, but the interior is mildly smoked, moist and tasty. Other times, I smoke the fish for 12-15 hours. In that case, the fish shrinks in size, gets very dark and rich, and the texture is more chewy. The intense smokey salmon flavor is awesome, but too strong for some. My favorite brine was found online. It contains white wine, soy sauce, brown sugar, onion salt and water. Once you get your new smoker, experiment with different recipes and species. Have fun!

This past year, I purchased this smoker for my husband for Christmas. The only thing he's smoked in it so far is salmon, but OH MY GOODNESS!!! It tastes amazing! The smoker comes with a little recipe book and it's full of delicious sounding foods that we can't wait to try when the weather gets colder. The smoker is compact and well built. The wood chips that come with it smell amazing even before you burn them. The racks are EASY to clean and if you happen to burn something on them a little Easy Off oven spray does the trick. We invert the box and put it on top of the smoker instead of buying the insulating blanket and it works just fine. No fires, no burned cardboard. It's a trick we learned from my dad who has the same model, only 15 years older.

The Pro's: It's a nice smoker. It you can smoke a lot of stuff with it. I like how you can reload the wood chips at the bottom, with out taking the lid off and loosing the heat. If you keep the box it came in, the instruction manual gives you advice on how to turn it into a cold smoker. Great for delicate things like smoking hard boiled eggs or just adding smoke flavor. You can cook FISH all the way thru. If you cut meat thin enough, it makes great beef jerky. You can skip the smoking chips and just use this as a dehydrator also.

The Cons: The bad part about this smoker is that the heating element stays at 165 degrees. Which means you can NOT cook steak, or chicken all the way thru. Whole chicken, forget about it. It just does not get hot enough. I smoked a steak for 5 hours, still raw in the middle. You smoke your meats for 3 to 5 hours to get a good smoke flavor, then have to finish it off in the oven or stove. Sometimes juices coming out of the meat kinda washes off some of the smoke flavor. That was the only disappointment for me. This would be the coolest little smoker if it cooked meats all the way thru, but it doesn't. When they advertise this product, they leave this very important fact out for some reason. I wonder why ?

There's not a whole lot that needs to be said about this item. It's an ash catcher. It catches ashes that fall out of a the bottom of your Weber grill. I wish these things were sold in stores that carry other Weber accessories. It is a Weber brand product, so you know that it fits correctly. Like all Weber brand accessories, it's dependable. It comes with the three adjustable clips to affix it to the legs under the kettle.

I wouldn't have needed one except that I lent out my grill and when it was returned, the ash catcher was missing. It's good to have if you don't want to see a small pile of ash build up under your grill. It also prevents any burning embers from landing on the grass or patio (or where ever you use your Weber grill).

So long as nobody steals it, I expect this baby to last me as long as the grill does.

If you store your grill outside, even on a screened porch, a cover is a wise investment that will make your grill last years longer. The Ducane covers are heavy gauge plastic with an attached lining. Product arrived without damage to the box. I left it sit in my garage for a month before opening it and, once I did, I was unable to get the cover unfolded. I don't know if it is just old and sat for a long time or if they folded it before the plastic was cooled/dried, but the plastics are melted/fused together and ripped when I tried to open the cover. Unfortunately, I didn't open the product right away after receiving it. I figured with no moving parts, what could go wrong? I won't make that mistake again.

I am very happy with the this grill cover manufactured for Ducane. The vinyl is a heavy weight that feels like leather, and drapes correctly to fit the shape of the grill. Ducane makes the covers sized to fit by grill model, so confirm the correct matchup when ordering. The cover comes with an inner liner of fabric which minimizes scratching from surface dirt and allows the cover to slide on and off easily. The sides include wide velcro tabs that fit together to snug the cover in place and prevent blow off or shifting during high winds. My cover has been exposed to quite a few thunderstorms and hail with no problems or damage. We have a charcoal grill so it doesn't fit quite as well as it would on a gas grill but it still covers it up really well. I'll keep it brief. The wide base makes it much more stable than some roasters. The beer can holder can of course be used for anything wet or dry to flavor your chicken. The vented base is big enough to hold a lot of whatever you decide to put in it. And last, it's pretty sturdy. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I wish the metal were just a little heavie gauge.

My husband asked me that question once, so I didn't buy it.

Then after we had to replace parts of half the grill after an unstable beer can supported chicken toppled over and dumped all the grease from the can into the grill, setting the entire thing, including the propane line which melted the tank valve, on fire, he said "why didn't we just buy a beer can chicken holder?"

Good grief. Save yourself the possible headache (and the near-property damage), and just use this. Heck, it's cheaper to just buy this than it will cost us to replace the now-empty fire extinguisher.

I want to give the verticle roaster more stars, because it's good, but it has one flaw the maker should fix. The roaster comes in two pieces, the base great for roasting veggies and a cone that the chichen sits on. The problem is that the cone is too big. I tried it with a rather largish chicken and the cone made the chichen stand up so high, it touched the lid of my barbeque grill. I'll try it with a smaller chichen, although the chichen may not fit on the cone. It was hard enough getting the larger chichen to fit.

It would be better if the cone was either shorter or narrower or both. I think it should also have holes in the cone, so the steam from the beer or other liquid used would enter through the sides of the cone as well as the top.

I have prepared coke can chicken many times before, always using a beer or coke can and sometimes had difficulty getting the bird to sit on the grill correctly. Always tasty but either doesn't sit right or the can collapses when you set it up, and you always get very messy bringing it out and setting it on the grill after applying the rub. With this cooker, you don't have to handle the bird once it's in place and the rub is on...take the handles and out to the grill.

One thing though...perhaps due to more metal in contact and around the chicken, it gets done quicker. I'm going to go 15 minutes less for a 5 pound bird next time I use it. Excellent product.

this vertical roaster is a very good value. couldn't find another one like it without paying another 50% in price. It just fits in my smoker so that I was able to smoke a chicken. The center can fits less than a can of beer so you do have to drink part of the can, lol! Plenty of holes to allow the smoke and heat to rise through properly.

I was fortunate to get this here for $45 w/ FS vs. the $75 plus shipping Mantis sells it for on their website. It is a nice grade vinyl cover made to fit the composter vs. throwing a tarp over it as I had done. I just don't know how long it will hold up and think it is a bit overpriced. Of course I thought the composter was overpriced too even after getting another great deal on it through Amazon.
