I had one of these adaptors at home but lost it. I think I left it on a old tank that was discarded. I couldn't find one locally. I was told by all hardware stores (Lowe's, Home Depot, True Value etc) that they could not longer get these adaptors. Amazon had the best price and availability. This one cost a little more than I previously paid but is exactly what I needed to adapt "old" style 20 lb propane tanks to the new style fittings. The old tanks can't be refilled but I have 3 that are still full to get rid of.

If you're in the same situation I was, this will do the job.

This review is for the GrillPro 11051 Universal Fit Propane Tank Adaptor, AISN B0029T5U0A.

First some terminology. There are two types of fittings on LP tanks used in RVs and gas grills, POL (Prest-o-Lite) and Acme (OPD). The old-style POL fittings have left-hand threads and tank valves will allow gas to escape if the valve is opened with nothing attached. POL fittings are almost always attached with a wrench. The newer Acme fittings have larger threads and are attached by hand. Tanks with Acme fittings do not allow gas to escape unless something is attached to the valve. These tanks cannot be over-filled, since there is a float inside to prevent this, hence the alternate designation: OPD (Overfill Prevention Device).

When I read the reviews I was having trouble relating some of the comments to the object pictured. As it turns out, GrillPro ships at least two, and possibly more, different adaptors under this same part number. I ordered three adaptors and received two different kinds. I will post a photo of the two types I received.

The most obvious difference between the two types is that one has a handwheel to attach the adaptor to the female POL fitting and the other requires a wrench (1-1/8"). The handwheel adaptor is made in China and the wrench adaptor is made in Italy. The quality of the Chinese-made adaptor appears to be slightly better than the other, but not enough to matter.

These adaptors have male POL threads on one end and male Acme threads on the other, allowing you to attach an old-style (POL) tank to a new-style (Acme) hose. In keeping with standard practice, both adaptors also have female POL threads inside the Acme end of the fitting, but that feature doesn't matter, since the purpose of the adaptor requires that you are starting with a female POL fitting.

In spite of documentation to the contrary, both fittings are easily removed and can be reused indefinitely.

I am very pleased with the fittings I received and would buy either kind again if I need more. The price is reasonable. If you have an old or large LP tank and you need to use it with the new Acme hose, this adaptor will do the trick very well.

It's a solid piece of brass with one rubber O-ring on it.

I had a 100 lb propane tank that I needed to hook up to a burner. I also use the burner on smaller tanks so I didn't want to wrestle with changing the hose all the time. Now I can just screw the big plastic connector to the 100 lb tank.

A very simple part but a bit of a challenge to track down.

It's not super cheap but it's not over priced.

I had next day shipping and it was here at 2pm the next day.

If I get another 100 lb tank I'm ordering one more.

I purchased this to use with a Weber Genesis B and some old tanks I have, but found that it didn't work.

It certainly works with the old propane tanks I have, but the adaptor is just a little too short (on the side with the large threads) for the Weber's connector to engage it properly and thus allow the propane to flow.

I either need to find another adaptor, or change the regulator of the Weber...

If it was only about 1/8" longer...

These steel doors were part of a "kit" that I bought from a Cambridge Paving distributor for an outdoor cook center that included the Bull Brahma grill. They were packaged in their own box and the doors were not bent or otherwise defective. However, the handles were missing, so the distributor had to get me a set, which he did.

They look nice once installed, but the professional installers who put them on for me needed some additional parts to make them fit properly, and noted that the frame for them could have been designed better. Hence the four star rating. However, once installed they open and close easily, and give me access to storage space in my cook center.

This 22lb door was being protected by 2 inch strip of styrofoam that is clearly not up the task of preventing damage to the door frame. If you haven't read reviews like this before on BULL products then keep looking. They are more the rule than the exception. I saw these comments before I purchased this and shame on me for thinking my experience would be different.

Brushes immediately folded over on first use.

Basically you can't put any significant pressure on this brush without the bristles just folding over flat. It looks to me the brushes are quite sparse and of a softer metal than one would expect. My cheapo wal-mart plastic handle one has lasted far better, shame too because this one looks so nice.

I returned it...so sad.

My fiancee got me this as a gift after I made my first roast in my new roasting pan. Previously, I had been using the (pretty cheap) fork that came in my barbecue set, and this fork makes a huge difference! The handle is really comfortable to hold, and its a nice long fork, which gives you really good control of the meat (leverage!). Plus, the whole thing is just really sturdy; there's no flexing in the fork while carving or moving, even with a huge roast. The tines are nice and long, so they really plant themselves in the meat. Plus, the fork is really nice looking, the metal was really easy to clean, and there aren't places where food can easily get trapped. very nice!

I've owned a Mini Chief smoker for more than 10 years, and I still use it at least weekly.

I've smoked many pounds of Salmon, whole chickens, turkey legs, ribs, etc.

When I follow directions, it works perfectly. The problem is that many users don't understand how to properly smoke.

If you can fit it in the smoker, it will smoke it. As with any smoker, meat should be cooked "low and slow", with low heat, over several hours.

A whole fryer chicken, which I brined over night, took about 6 hours, and was as tender, juicy and delicious as any other method I've used to cook a chicken. I snack on delicious smoked Salmon daily, and it's as good or better than any that I've bought in the store.

Btw, I highly recommend Alder wood for fish and poultry do a web search for "justsmokedsalmon" for more info, recipes and great prices on Alder wood chips.

The Mini Chief maintains an internal temp of about 250-275 degrees, the perfect temperature for proper smoking.

It does get harder to maintain proper temps in cold and/or windy weather, but I just use it in a semi-sheltered corner area next to my porch. I've used it on windy, 15 degree days with no problem other than adding 30-60 minutes on to the cooking time. I set the thermo. up so I can see it from my kitchen window, so I don't have to run outside to check it.

Also, I use a thermometer with a remote probe so I can monitor the temp. of the meat without removing the lid, otherwise you lose the heat you built up and will add hours onto the cooking time and/or dry out the meat. I highly recommend you get one, you won't be sorry.

Oh, yeah, the book contains instructions for smoking cheese. You can cold smoke with it if you are careful.

The only issue I would have if I were to buy another one is the size. Depending on what and how much you intend to smoke, you may do better with a larger smoker, but it will be almost twice the price. Also, it would be nice to have a front loading model, but that has never really caused a problem, it would just add convenience.

Had a Little Chief smoker (20 years old). Decided for my type of smoking I would get a mini-chief. It was 3 shelves vs 4 shelves, but being much shorter in height,I really liked that feature. I mainly smoke lake trout and venison. Smoker worked excellent. Took about 5-6 hours smoking time and the results were fantastic. Bought the insulated blanket which I thinks really helps a lot. Also purchased the shelf pads which greatly helps in laying the fish and meat strips on the racks. They are easy to clean.

I received the Mini smoker and was surprised at the poor quality. the bottom which is staked in was crooked by at least 1/4 inch preventing the smoker from siting flat on the bottom. the bracket holding the heater which was to be welded, was broken free. the top cover would not fit on to the unit until I bent the edges on both the top and the housing. there was a dent in the side of the housing, but nothing wrong with the cardboard package that the unit came in, meaning the dent was made at the factory and shipped that way. I wrote all this up with photos and sent it to the smokehouse factory, only to say that we should all buy American made products, but the manufacturer would have to do their part in providing a decent item. I waited close to a month before reviewing the smoker, hoping to hear something from them, I have not heard a word, which makes me think they don't really care. I repaired all the problems and used the smoker on my last fishing trip. It was OK.

This review is written by someone who used one of these for a couple years, as our first smoker, and recently switched to a "real" smoker.

WHAT IT IS

Its an aluminum box, with a lid on top and an electric heating element at the bottom. Inside is a metal framework with three trays. You lift the frame out through the top, put food on the trays, and put the frame/food back. You put wood chips in the (included) metal pan, then slide the pan through a trap door so that it sits on top of the heating element. The heat makes the wood chips smolder and burn, and the smoke infuses the food. A pan of wood lasts 1/2 to 1 hours, then needs to be refilled. Amazon sells wood, so does our local grocery store.

WHAT IT IS NOT

Other "smokers" are also slow cookers. Like the Chief they burn wood, whose smoke also infuses the food in them. But they get their internal temp up to (a controllable) 225 350 degrees F, and slow cook the food. Put in meat, take out food.

Chief smokers will not cook your food. They get their internal temp up to some (uncontrollable) temp in the mid-100s and that's it. This is not enough to cook your food. Put in raw meat, take out smokey raw meat. If you want your food cooked, you'll have to take it out of the Chief smoker and move it to the oven for cooking.

As a "smoker" in the usual sense of a smoker-slow-cooker, the Chief should get one star. It doesn't do what "smokers" need to do.

As a "smoke infuser," which just puts smoke in the food, I'd give it 4 stars.

GOOD

Does a good job infusing smoke in your food.

Smaller than "real" smokers. Light weight, easy to carry. Fits conveniently on a shelf in our garage.

Light weight, but not flimsy. We used it often over 2 years, and it held up fine.

BAD

Doesn't cook the food. I guess this isn't a problem unless you think it is. Just move the food to the oven for cooking. But in our experience oven-finishing the food always ended up making smoky oven-cooked food. It didn't produce "smoked" meat like we were looking for. Now that we've switched to a "real" smoker, we're much much happier with the results.

Too hot for cold smoking. We hoped to use the Chief to cold-smoke salmon for lox. This doesn't work. The mid-100s degree temp partially cooks the fish, and what comes out is definitely not lox.

Expensive, relative to good functional gas smokers, which sell for pretty much the same price.

BOTTOM LINE: Does a good job at what it does. "Real" smokers do more. Now that we've experienced a "real" smoker, we'd never go back to a Chief.

I tried another rotisserie I got from an auction, and was sadly disappointed. The mounting brackets did not fit, there was no counterweight, and the meat forks were cheaply made.

THIS unit however, is great. First, the mounting brackets are truly "universal", and should fit just about any grill. Mine mounted perfectly on my Aussie Bonza Deluxe 3 grill without issue. Installation only takes about 5 minutes. The mounting brackets allow for various distances between your grill's mounting holes, and multiple sets of holes allow for various height adjustments. If your grill has two holes on either side, you should be set.

The single-piece spit rod is heavy duty, the counter weight included is heavy enough to assist with balancing heavier roasts (or chickens), and the four-pronged meat forks are well made.

The motor comes with a long cord (about 3 feetmost other units have much shorter cords!), and the fact that the motor has an on/off switch is a nice plus.

Lastly, for all the praise I can give this unit, I was also pleased that it's attractively priced. I have seen many other rotisseries that seem to be much more expensive, and not built nearly as well.

The product itself is excellent. Be careful if purchasing for a Char-Broil 4-burner Commercial Series BBQ. It will work, but you will not be able to attached the handle to the spit, because of the way the BBQ lid closes. Rotation speed on this unit is excellent and it is very quiet. So who needs the handle anyway?!

The more powerful motor and the counterbalance are definitely an improvement over the rotisserie that came with my grill. I had to drill one hole in the body of the grill to mount one of the brackets: easily done, since this grill is aluminum. But I shouldn't have taken the "Universal" in the product name so literally; the spit is too short for my grill. I can use the old one and some of the old hardware (I'm glad I didn't throw them out), but using the counterbalance isn't nearly as convenient this way.

Hopefully, Amazon will refund all of my costs.

Nice looking accessory shelf. Product came without instructions! I was expecting a shelf that would be screwed or bolted to the grill for stability. This is not that product! This shelf simply slides into premade slots in the side or front of the grill. Easy to do but also easy to knock by mistake. Cheap Taylor Precision Products 147921 Food Thermometer, With Remote

I have read the "help" offered by the Taylor engineer. I think he is just explaining away the fact that Taylor did not design this appropriately for the environment it is going to be regularly used in. I am an engineer by training and have used these types of temp measurement devices before many times they are popular because they are accurate and reliable. If packaging is not designed correctly, anything will fail. (perfect example computer manufacturers design keyboards to have a drink spilled on them; is this logical: no; does it keep the keyboard safe in its likely use environment: yes)

My problem is that the crimp that holds the wires into the probe did not hold well so the plastic protective sheath pulled out and, no, I did not pull the probe out by the cord. Now the little wires that actually combine to determine the temperature rub on the probe opening and cause an error (especially if even slightly moist). Bottom line: the cord should have been sheathed in braided metal like every other probe out there.

There may be good news: as I was writing the review sitting on hold with customer servcie, someone finally answered my call. They will send another probe out for free...in a month and a half because they are backorded. I'm sure the Taylor engineer will chalk the demand for replacement probes up to user error. Good luck to those who purchased.

Just finished reading my copy of Cooks' Illustrated and I see they've listed this wireless as their new #1 thermometer, knocking off the previous title holder. I love this piece and am glad to see the experts think so too. It's compact and works well. I love the backlight and that the remote beeps, vibrates and flashes a light for the various pre-alerts I've set for cooking. I use it more indoors than for BBQ's, but it's clearly a great piece and by a company who knows thermometers. I have other Taylor items too.

I purchased this item at another retailer (wish I would have gotten it here!) and have used it twice already. The price was great! I had a corded one before that didn't have the remote, but wanted to try this. I used it on the grill to cook some chicken and had no problem with the cord at all. It was great because I didn't have to constantly run to the grill to check the temp -I did once but then realized I didn't have to and waited for the beeps (and it was cold out). The chicken breast turned out well. I used it in the oven this weekend for a roast, and again, it was great. The meat was done really well and cooked just the way we like it. I like that I don't have to spend all my time in the kitchen checking and checking the temperature. I truly didn't worry about the roast until I got the beeps. Can't wait to try it again for the holidays

(AS MANY OTHER REVIEWERS SAY DO NOT BUY A SILICONE COATED THERMOMETER CORD) As much as I want to like this product I've had 2 faulty ones. The first one had an error on the digital screen that basically made it useless. With the second one the cord (which is covered in a silicone coating) melted on my grill and exposed the wires. The second one also had an error on the digital screen too, but I'm assuming it's because the cord melted. Both of these were used for less than 3 times on the grill.

I read the Engineers review (in Amazon) and I'm guessing the first question would be "was the grill over 500 degrees?" From my grills internal thermometer no, but I'm not an expert. Also the grill was on low so I don't know what else I could do.

The digital reading is convenient (if it works) because you can select different meat settings (rare/med rare/etc...) but to me it's a poorly made product. I WOULD NOT recommend this product.

Also, Taylor has extremely poor customer support and no information in their book or online.

I have reserved my judgement on this product until using it several times. Bottom line, it does work great. The neat thing about this grilling device is that you have two options.

Option One: Insert open beer can in the center of this device (device holds beer can perfectly) and set chicken onto it. Place on grilling grate over large drip pan set between charcoal holders (grilling via indirect heat). Cover grill and cook until done (about an hour assuming you started with hot heat).

Option Two: Forget about the nasty beer can. Set chicken on device. Place a large drip pan between the charcoal holders (grilling via indirect heat), pour beer of choice into drip pan (Samuel Adams Boston Lager works for me). Place the "mounted" chicken on the grilling grate above the drip pan. Cover grill. Cook until done (about an hour assuming you started with hot heat).

As for spices: salt, pepper, crushed garlic cloves under skin, BBQ seasoning over chicken; use whatever is your preference for either of the above two options.

Lastly, product made of a solid heavy gauge metal (same finish as Weber grill grates); no non-stick chemical finish to contaminate food (if that is your concern); gives you the option of not using an aluminum beer can; cleanup is made easier when using the holder than when cooking directly on the cooking grate; and you definitely cannot beat the price for a solid Weber product. It is a good deal.

Works great to lift the chicken on and off the grill. In the past I'd just balance my chicken on the beer can and risk burning myself taking it off. With this I'm able to lift it with gloves and then carefully remove the chicken.
