Mine came a little inacurate, but after I calibrated it (very easy, instructions included) it was dead one. Not quite instant though...more like 3 seconds or so, but thats more than quick enough. The cover also serves as a handle, which is nice. For the price, a great value.

Bought this from Axiom Merchant Marketing through Amazon. The battery worked for ten seconds, then had to be replaced locally. Now it works fine. Design is not so good. The cover of the probe can be pushed onto the end of the handle in order to extend the handle and make it longer, a handy feature when inserting the probe over a hot grill. However, the cover separates from the handle too easily, and I find myself holding only the cover while the probe remains in the food on the grill.

This thermometer has been very useful. It registers the temperature quickly and the numbers are easy to read even with bi-focals. The cover becomes a handle so your fingers don't get to close to the flame when grilling. I would recommend it.

Honest reviews on Taylor #806 Weekend Warrior Digital Instant Read Thermometer

I am impressed with the accuracy and durability of this item, but it is far from "instant read". I conduct several temperatue audits for a major food chain and many of the readings take several minutes to stabilize. Overall, it is worth the cost.

Thermometer reads ok, handle doesn't hold on, tends to fall off, unit is too small to hold without handle attacted.

Weber 3620 6-Inch Wheel

This is the best wheel I've bought in a long time. It came quickly and it was well packaged.

It's really round and it has some neat tread on it for safely wheeling the grill around in the rain. The stencil of 'Webber' on the sidewall gives it a nice racey look, and makes me glad it has that tread on it when I go doing fast laps around the back porch.

It even came with the little friction nut to hold it on. A nice addition and a better solution than the duct tape I was going to use. (Don't ask me why they can't just use a normal 1/4" or 3/8" nut, or cotter pin on the end of the axle.)

Somehow, five stars just doesn't seem enough for a wheel this nice.

Coming soon, I'll review a screwdriver I ordered.

I have always been a wood fire BBQ kind of guy I like meat cooked over a *real* flame, and even charcoal has always seemed to me like cheating (though I've been using charcoal Weber kettle grills for 20 years). I never even considered a gas grill for myself for these reasons.

For my senior Mom & Dad, however, the task of lighting charcoal, etc was too much hassle, so this past weekend I went out shopping for a gas grill for them. After going back and forth between three different home centers and Costco, I settled on this unit as by far the best "bang for the buck" in terms of build quality, performance characteristics, and ease of use for under $500. I seriously considered going up to the Weber Genesis, but for 50% more, I just couldn't quite justify it. My requirement was good quality for under $500. At this price point, its all about QPR (quality price ratio)...

After about a one-hour erector set project putting it all together (not difficult, just tedious and time consuming), I fired it up and let heat for about 10-15 minutes to get the manufacturing residue completely burned off. I was immediately impressed with how hot the cooking surfaces became (and how quickly). The nifty temp sensors at the grate level registered 700+ degrees, though I don't know how accurate they really are.

After burn-off, I tried it out with what I have found to be one of the trickiest things to grill over open flame (gas or wood/charcoal): raw marinated bone-in chicken parts. To be done right, the chicken has to be crispy on the outside not burned, and moist and completely cooked on the inside. With unevenly shaped and sized chicken parts, this can be devilishly tricky.

But with this grill, I found I was able to keep the left most burner at full throttle, and the two right burners at low settings and get creative. This allowed me to beautifully sear the skin using the left side of the grill, then finish cooking on the right side (with the BBQ closed). The results were impressive for a gas grill, which in my experience usually turn out either damp, gray, limp chicken with no BBQ taste, or something resembling the effects of a structure fire (charred and dried out) .

One of my favorite things about this grill turned out to be that it is really easy to add wood chips for smoke flavor. Because there is a perforated metal "screen" (the infrared reflector) under the food, it catches the wood chips and holds them at a perfect smoking temperature where they will smolder but not burn up.

Speaking of flare-ups, this grill did NOT exhibit flare-ups at all. Even with fatty pieces of chicken that had been marinated in an olive oil mixture, there was almost no burning or excessive smoking, even on the "searing" side of the hot grill.

When turned down low, I also found the evenness of the heating surface to be impressively consistent, and the large stainless "grill" surface not only made great marks on the food, but also did not stick as badly as most coated steel or iron grill surfaces do.

On the con side, I can imagine that the perforated screen is going to require some periodic maintenance to keep it clean. The good news is that it comes out in three easy-to-handle sections shaped like little trays, each holding a section of grill. You pull the "tray" up and out, then lift the grill surface out of the tray making both very easy to clean.

One final note I also prepared a boneless leg of lamb on the grill using a "generic" rotisserie (Grill-Pro brand). it *barely* fit between the closed lid and the grill surface, but again, the infrared cooking system worked great. I warmed it up at full throttle for about 5-10 minutes before mounting the marinated lamb roast, then allowed it to sear beautifully for about 15 minutes. Then I turned the burners all down to their lowest settings, threw on a thumb-sized stick of oak from one of our trees, and dropped the lid.

An hour and a half later, we enjoyed one of the best lamb roasts I have ever had.

Recommended, especially if you can get it for the price I paid (which was about less than Amazon's currently listed price)

Pros:

*Great heat output for searing. I've not used a gas grill that gets a hotter cooking surface (other than commercial equipment)

*Even distribution of heat for predictable results, very little flare-up.

*Good low-temp performance

*Easy to use wood chips for flavor, unlike many gas grills

*Good (for its price-point) build quality in the hood and firebox. Cabinets are thin stainless steel.

Cons:

*Bottom 1/2 of construction is a bit flimsy, but better than many at this price point

*Requires pre-heating for about 10 minutes for best results

*Periodic clean-up will be required for optimum performance, and cleanup will be messy

My girlfriend purchased this grill for me about 3 months ago and I have used it about 30 times mostly for steaks, chicken breasts, and hamburgers. It has decent size cooking area. I can cook 9 huge steaks at the same time. Unless you plan on having a lot of cookouts with more than 20 people there then it is plenty big enough (and even then it is adequate). It is very easy to regulate the temperature of the grill because of the thermometer at the grilling surface so once you find a temperature that cooks the food the way you like it, it is easy to duplicate the desired results with amazing consistency (when i grill steaks i heat up the grill to 650 degrees and throw the steaks on for 7 minutes on each side to get a good sear, then I turn the burners off completely until the temperature drops to 400, then I fire it up and put it on low and close the grill...it gives me a great sear on the outside and is extremely tender on the inside). I haven't had a single flare-up...even on the fattiest piece of meat drenched in olive oil. I only have two small complaints. Cleaning the grill is more difficult than with a conventional grill (but besides scraping off the grates i only clean it once a month so it's not a big deal. That causes it to be less efficient but I'm lazy after eating a big meal so as long as the food comes out ok then I'm happy). The only other complaint I have is that the stainless steel grates do get stained and they aren't very attractive looking after a few uses but I don't really mind that. As long as they're functional I'm happy. Overall I would highly recommend it and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it's difficult to clean.

Best Deals for Char-Broil TRU Infrared 3-Burner Gas Grill with Side burner

The big advantages of this grill are even heating and flavor. Even low fat content hamburgers came out juicy and did not shrink. The manufacturer claims that it uses 30% less fuel and it does cook faster than open flame barbeques, but there is a full power 10-15 minute warm up and then another high heat period after you finish to burn off cooking residue so total gas use may actually be more than claimed.

It does not flare up but the screens underneath the grills need to be cleaned or the heat output will drop off. This grill requires more maintenance each time than an open flame unit but it is worth it. Our previous Brinkman BBQ completely rusted out (burners, supports, firebox) after five years but we didn't take very good care of it

A couple of neat features are that you can rotisserie without a special burner, you can add wood chips without a smoker box and there are separate thermometers at grill height for each burner. This latter feature makes temperature control especially easy and accurate at the cooking surface.

All in all very pleased with this grill. Time will tell just how durable it will be, but the screens should protect the firebox and burners better than an open flame BBQ. Burners are lifetime warranty.

Honest reviews on Char-Broil TRU Infrared 3-Burner Gas Grill with Side burner

I'm not sure I buy all the physics they claim is behind this but I do speak highly of the results. I cooked hot dogs, turkey burgers, and bone-in chicken breasts. I was very impressed by the results for all three, especially the chicken. Hot dogs are a no brainer. The turkey burgers were a bit tricky because the soft meat could fall into the grills. The saving factor here is that the grill cooks things very quickly once it's warmed up. The surface of the burger on the bottom cooked before the burgers could really sag much into the grates. What really amazed me was the quality of the chicken breasts. I cooked 5 very different sized breasts at the same time. The outsides on all of them were brown and crispy, the insides were moist and cooked all the way through. I added bbq sauce in the last minutes of cooking. These were the best grilled chicken breasts I've ever cooked. I have no doubt I'll be able to repeat these results for all kinds of meat with a little practice.

One noteworthy item the booklet in the box doesn't mention this but the website does season the grates with vegetable oil before cooking for the first time. This will inhibit rusting and should make the meats stick less to the grates. It took me a while to find this tip on the website but make sure you find it and follow the directions, it's a must for these grills.

I give it four stars because the grates/emitters will definitely be harder to clean than a normal open grate. I will likely (I haven't done it yet) just remove the grates and scrape the emitter plates clean with a plastic (when the grill is cold obviously) or metal putty knife. The grates can clean themselves or I can just knock the big chunks off.

I've only had the grill for a couple of days so I can't say how well the materials will hold up over time. Regarding customer service, one of the small bumpers for the lid was broken when I got the grill. I used the website to report the problem and had a response and order for replacement bumpers within 3 hours of my request. Note I had already followed their registration process (easy too).

As my Weber had seen better days, I set of to investigate current grills at several home improvement and hardware stores. As an avid grill user, I am a big fan of using different favored wood chips. With most grills, this can be very tricky, messy, and dangerous to do.

I was intrigued when I saw the Char-Broil Quantum Infrared system and the easy design for using wood chips. I also felt that the quality of the products I reviewed appeared to be sturdy in design. As I was surprised that these units cost a third of the price of my prior Weber grills, I decided to go online and do further research.

After reading many reviews, I ordered my unit. Although it took about two hours to assemble, after doing the initial burn off and oil seasoning, I have had the opportunity to cook many meals on this unit.

First, if you like to use wood chips, you're going to think you died and went to heaven. The best and easiest system I have ever used. The two piece grate system works great at also eliminating flare-ups and providing even heat distribution as mentioned in many other reviews.

The drawback to this system is it does require additional maintenance. However, the two piece system is easy the lift out (in three separate sections), and is easy to clean. Well worth the time for anyone looking for a consistent cooking system that works.

One thing I felt this unit lacked, was hooks to hang cooking utensils on, however there was room to drill a few holes on the left side of stand and add a few S hooks.

Overall I give this a five star rating based features and pricing, and feel that anybody can learn to be the perfect chef with this grill.

I received these today and they are OK. They aren't quite as big as the original ones, although that is not the issue I have with them. The original ones have two little tabs that sort of lock them in place, the replacements, not so much. They just sit there so I will have to be careful to check them everytime to be sure they are properly above the flame. Considering the factory replacements (Bluerhino.com) sell for 16.00 each and these were 30.00 for all four, I'll just deal with it. I'll add a picture so you can see what I am talking about.

This hose allows you to hook up a 20 lb propane tank instead of the small disposable ones, use that Weber Q grill for a season on one tank, save huge money and don't run out of propane in the middle of the steak.

If you're looking at yet another hose because a squirrel chewed through the hose you have, you're not alone. I added a stainless steel braided hose cover (look at my other reviews) to cover and protect the hose from those grey tree rats.

As of today, the picture shown on the product page does not show the correct hose. The picture shows an inside threaded hose (will work with old and new style tanks). The item received is outside threaded so will only work with new style tanks. This will work fine for most people but I had a full old-style tank that I was hoping to use up so returned and purchased a different model. The hose seems to be well made and is priced less that comparable hoses.

I bought this after unsuccessfully searching for a wood fired thin crust pizza joint in my area and thought I'd try to figure out an alternative myself. I looked for other kits, but they were either too complex (required constructing a 4'x6' structure out of brick and concrete) or nothing more than oven pizza stones that don't work. This seemed like a great alternative.

The kit is a snap to install and takes only a few minutes to assemble. Once assembled it sits in between the body and the lid of your Weber charcoal BBQ. It also comes with a pizza stone which sits on the grill inside. You first add charcoal to preheat the oven and stone, then add wood. The trick is to find the right amount of wood because if you put too much in it can begin to melt your Weber lid so I recommend adding one piece of firewood so you get it between 700F-800F. Once the "oven" is up to 700F it's time for the pizza. The included pizza peel is of high quality and is a must to rotate the pizza during the 5 min cooking process. So how did the pizza come out? Simply awesome! The crust gets nice and brown with some of that slightly burnt goodness that is standard with wood fires ovens. I make pizza at least once a week using the Kettlepizza and I have to say that I couldn't live without it.

Review of Cobb CB220 Premier Kitchen-In-A-Bag

Cobb CB220 Premier Kitchen-In-A-Bag
Customer Ratings: 4 stars
Buy Now
I love my Cobb-ecues. I have one that I use on my sailboat in Alaska and one in Maui. I find that they cook well and make the meat tender, but that I have to use more briquettes than they recommend to keep the heat up in the wind and to keep the cooking surface hot enough so it will brown the meat. I put fish in a aluminum foil boat on the cooking surface and add smoke chips to the fire pit...mmmmmmmmmm!

Pros: Efficient-A bag of briquettes lasts 3 months cooking 4 times a week. The food is moist, with a wonderful flavor and yet no cinders from the fire.

Cons: Cleaning the fire pit/drip chamber is a messy chore. I usually put it off for a couple of weeks. I keep the drip area coated with olive oil so it does not harden. On the second one I bought, about a square inch of the non stick cooking surface came off. It has stabilized (no more has come off) and still works well. If you like your meat charred, you will not like the Cobb.

I purchased this item after seeing it in action on trip to England. On one occasion my son cooked a large chicken on the upright chicken stand with the dome extension ring (without which it would not fit, upright, under the dome) and the result was probably the most delicious chicken I'd ever tasted. I was sold!

Upon my return to California I immediately ordered the Cobb CB220 Premier Kitchen-In-A-Bag, which explicitly includes the chicken stand and dome extension ring (both in the product image and the product description). I first ordered one from Amazon Warehouse Deals in "Used, like new" condition, to save about $20 on the new price. It arrived early and was indeed like new (I doubt it had even actually been used) but the dome extension ring and chicken rack were missing.

In a chat with an Amazon customer service rep I was offered a refund and a credit towards a "New" Cobb CB220 Premier Kitchen-In-A-Bag, from Amazon (not Amazon Warehouse Deals) to make the price the same as the one I was returning, and free 2-day shipping, as I had planned to use it at the weekend. I ordered it, and it arrived on time, but the package contents were identical to the one I was returning: no dome extension ring and no chicken rack.

( The missing components can be seen in this image from the product page: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/81FzfRm8HPL._SL1500_.jpg )

While these missing components are not expensive they were crucial in my decision to buy the "Cobb CB220 Premier Kitchen-In-A-Bag" kit rather than the (much cheaper) Cobb CB041 Premier (with no accessories) or the Cobb CB040 Premier (with some accessories, but fewer than the CB220)

My 2-star rating is not for the product in general (which is amazing, when complete) but to draw attention to Amazon's seriously misleading product description (I did not receive the product as advertised), and for the expense and inconvenience of having to return two very large packages.

I have since found the item at a different vendor (not through Amazon) at a slightly lower price and with free shipping. And I have the opportunity to talk on the phone with that vendor, before purchasing, to ensure I get all the accessories that are supposed to be included in the kit.

EDIT : The other vendor contacted me to inform that they currently have the CB220 on back-order, but that the kit is assembled by Cobb, not by themselves (or by Amazon in the case of the products I purchased) so my 2-star rating stands for now, but now reflects a discrepancy on the part of Cobb, not Amazon, for providing a product that falls short of the product description.

EDIT 2: I have since discovered, by browsing the UK Cobb website (not the US site search "cobb uk sets" to find the page), that in addition to the basic Cobb Premiere Grill/Oven they assemble seven 'sets' each of which contains some permutation of accessories. At the bottom of the range the set contains only the grill/oven and a carry bag. At the top of the range is the Kitchen-in-a-Bag, containing all the accessories, as listed and pictured on Amazon. What Amazon delivered to me, twice, however was not the Kitchen-in-a-Bag, it was the Cobb Premier Combo++, which contains everything from the Kitchen-in-a-Bag except the dome extension and chicken rack. These kits are assembled (by Cobb, I believe) and packed in unmarked plain brown boxes, so there is no way to distinguish between them until the box is opened.

I have wanted one of these grills for years and finally bought one on Amazon.com last summer. I have a disability so standing in front of the traditional grill doesn't work. I can put this one anywhere and even transport it (HOT)on my lap when I'm in a wheelchair (safely)! This is a very well ventilated unit that lights quickly, heats up fast and it's almost impossible to turn out anything short perfect food. It's a grill, smoker, roaster and all-purpose frypan all in one! AWESOME!!

My review does not reflect the grill itself, but the advertising for the grill set. I ordered this set, but the dome extender and chicken rack were not in it. I contacted Amazon, and they were very nice...sent me another set...but it was the same. I contacted Amazon again and told them about the problem. I was told they could not just send the missing items. I kept the first order, because this is a bit hard to find all together, even though I'm essentially out $34.95, the cost of the extender. A cook book (useless) was apparently substituted for the extender, because it was in both sets. I was told Amazon would look into it, and that this set wouldn't be for sale until it was investigated, but here it is a week later. I don't know if it has been resolved or not, but I would be VERY careful in ordering it. I did notice that the price has been reduced since I bought it about a week ago,(what the heck??) so that makes me a bit suspicious. Amazon, if you read these reviews, I really think you should send me the set I ordered if the problem has been solved. I'll gladly return what was sent to me.

Love my Old Smokey #14... Did Not Receive Replacement Grate.

I did receive the Old Smokey Grill, pot to start fire and legs, which I believe was shipped from factory in TX. Which is just what I wanted.

Later I checked all items and didn't have the Replacement Grate. I had so many problems with my knee recovery... still don't know what happened to the Grate. The shaft is very thick and doesn't strain under the weight of a #10 brisket. Many people will tell you not to puncture the meat for fear of losing juices. I don't notice any loss of moisture. This basket fits perfectly on my webber grill rotisserie. So far I have used it for chicken leg quarters and it has worked very well. When weather warms up I plan to use it on vegetables and maybe a gyros.

I like grilling, and I like my rotisserie, so a hexagonal spit basket sounded like it would be a good addition to my bbq toolbox. However, I had read a lot of negative reviews of products of this type from other manufacturers, (check out the comments that have been left for the Napoleon Rotisserie 64003 Tumble Basket, Non-stick or the GrillPro 24764 Non-Stick Tumble Basket).

At first glance, the OneGrill product looked the same as the others, but it had no comments at all, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Look closely at the picture of this product & you'll see that this is made up of two (identical) half-cages, each of which has a screw at one end, and a hole (OK a bent bar) at the other end. You put the two halves face to face, thread the spit through the holes and tighten the screws. There's not a lot to go wrong.

These cages are mostly intended to be used for making grilled vegetables, and I'm sure they do that well enough. But I found a different purpose for mine that you may want to consider. I am a big fan of Alton Brown's "Good Eats" TV show, and I was especially enthralled by his program about making Gyros at home (it's on youtube with a title something like 'my big fat greek sandwich"). Essentially, his recipe calls for you to make a kind of a lamb meatloaf, skewer it and put it on a rotisserie (and I'm talking about a horizontal rotisserie, since most of us don't have a vertical unit like the ones you see in Greek restaurants). According to the comments on the foodnetwork site, a number of people who tried it found that the meatloaf fell apart while it was turning on the spit. Not good....

Enter the OneGrill basket. I made the loaf per Brown's recipe, and put it in the cage before skewering it. The cage holds the meat together so there is no danger of the gyros loaf tumbling down into the firebox while you're cooking. The results were nothing short of amazing.

Now admittedly, the cage is HOT when you take it off the grill, and taking it apart while it's hot can be a problem so it doesn't address all the complaints about the Napoleon & GrillPro cages but hey you're barbecuing, what do you expect?.. I suspect I'm going to find a lot more uses for this thing.

Honest reviews on OneGrill Hexagon Tumble Rotisserie Basket - Fits Large Spit Rods

I had a tumble basket about 15 years ago that was cylindrical with a door on the side. That worked great. Lost that in the divorce, so purchased this one, since the only other cylindrical basket with trap door was ALOT more money. This basket works ok. Used it once so far with drumsticks. Pieces of chicken fell off the bone out into grill and some drumstick ends got stuck in spaces. Had to monitor it a lot and rescue pieces that fell out (tasty rescue for me!). The two halves of the basket do not fit together well which creates a large gap that would certainly allow smaller food to fall through. Next time I will figure a way to jury rig the two halves together (wire or something) so it doesn't shift during tumbling and let out food. For the price it is as I expected based on other reviews. So just manage your expectations when purchasing. I don't make tumble chicken/food too much to justify the splurge of the higher quality cylindrical one I see online. Would not recommend or buy again

As others have noted, this item comes with no instructions, fits loosely, and cannot be used for veges, etc as it moves from side to side as it tumbles, exposing a relatively large gap. Works well for large items, such as chicken legs, etc., which is what we bought it for, so it gets three stars. Looks like you have to move way up to the next level to get one that really works. We are using this on 22" Weber with rotisserre.

Needed this basic replacement piece. Nothing too complicated to catching ashes. Hard part is taking bottom of grill apart to get the new one on. Wish it was a little deeper to "catch" everything.

It is simple to install and catches most of the ash as we go. It works well and fits the grill.

Honest reviews on Weber 3637 Ash Catcher

When installing the new ash catcher I realized that a 12" alum. pie pan fits perfectly on top. I then cut a 1" hole on the bottom of the grill

so I can sweep the ashes directly into the pie pan with no spill.

It looks like the newer generation grills dump in the same fashion.

Easier is better and a lot cleaner.

Bradley is famous for their high prices. Since there are so few outlets for their products, only those forced to pay top dollar on the item and shipping. For the price, the shipping should be free. Really this product should not be priced higher than about $7.
