I had a taste for shish kabobs all summer so I ordered two different sets. I ordered the ones on this page and I also order the Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Stainless Steel Kabob Rack with 6 Skewers.

The pros of these compared to the latter are that they have the wooden handles. These were really handy and didn't require me to keep slipping on/off gloves.

The only cons I can think of is that they are 1" wide and I couldn't find any smaller. That only means that you have to use big chunks of meat. I guess you couldn't really say it's a con because that's how they are advertised. Another think I wish they had was a sheath or a carrying case. A friend of mine had some similar that had a cloth sheath that he rolled up for storage. That would make these perfect.

I hand washed them because I didn't know if they were dishwasher safe or not. The other skewers mentioned said they were and ended up showing rust spots. Better safe than sorry...

I think these are great. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for good skewers. I used mine on the Bayou Classic Fold and Go Portable Grill without the grill surface. If they end up making some that are 3/8" or 1/2" I will definitely buy those.

I couldn't be happier with these, they are exactly what I needed. They are the perfect size for large chunks of meat. The only issue I found with them is the brass pins in the handle may get hot if the fire is close to the handle. Other then that they work perfect.

We love to cook out and try new things. We used this to grill a whole pineapple and pichana. It is probably too big for pichana unless you find a big cut of meat. It was great for the whole pineapple. The metal is reasonably sturdy, but if you are too rough with them they will bend. You get a bunch of swords, great deal!

I like these a lot. Have not used them yet but they are exactly the size I will need for Kabobs and they are very sturdy feeling. Delivered fast and in great shape for a utility product.

These are great! Bought to replace a small grill set that were constantly spinning on their own or allowing the meat or veggies to spin. Not going to happen with these. They are huge. A friend introduced me to shashlik. I am now trying as many recipes as I can find. Look it up. It's delicious. I would only suggest to make sure you cut your meat or vegetables big enough to cope with the size of the skewer. First time all of the vegetables my wife chopped up split when we tried toskewer them.

REVIEW IS ONLY REGARDING PRODUCT DESCRIPTION (THE PRODUCT ITSELF APPEARS TO BE VERY WELL CONSTRUCTED)

The website states that the product dimensions are 15x15x3.5. This may be correct but is misleading. Please be aware that the center section is only 10" in diameter (as shown in the image I've attached). I mistakenly purchased this thinking that the center section was 13". The product actually fits on a 15" diameter round grill/smoker. If the diameter of your grill is larger than this, do not buy this product.

I'm not an expert on grill covers. But this thing does what it claims. It covers your grill. I've only had it for ~6 months. I'm already satisfied with the purchase. Instead of the annoying drawstring so many grill covers have, it has an elastic band like underwear does. It has so far handled some pretty strong wind without blowing off. So again, I'm happy with it. Also, it was not expensive. That's always a plus.

This cover is a great option for maintaining the metal and plastic outside of any grill. It is expandable and cinches at the bottom to accommodate many sizes of grills. The front pocket is great for storing grill cleaning supplies such as liquid cleaner and brushes. A cover is essential for any customer who wishes to keep their grill rust free and looking new many years after purchase. Without a cover, the grill is subject to the elements. The price on this cover is great, I would much rather replace the cover than the grill each year. I would recommend this product without question.

After a few windy days the cover shredded and no longer coveres the grill. Not worth the money. Very cheaply made and will not last past one windy day.

I purchased this thermometer based on what I read on amazingribs.com, one of the most comprehensive and informative sites I have ever seen. It arrived promptly and two days later I smoked a brisket. The directions were easy to follow and the thermometer helped me keep my webber charcoal grill around 250 and also gave me the meat temperature as well as the amount of time that I smoked the meat.

I've used it a number of times since and it has worked flawlessly. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone that wants to do a more accurate job of grilling by cooking the meat to the correct temperature. I'm considering a second unit so I can monitor the temps on different meats.

The Yankees logo, "NY" is a mirror image which is correct...HOWEVER, the words "New York Yankees" located below the large "NY" was not a mirror image. Therefore, when I brand my steak, the "NY" will look correct, but "New York Yankees" will be backwards. This really is not that big of a deal, but you would figure that if the "NY" is correct, why would the "New York Yankees" also be correct? I have noticed that this is not the only sports team that this error exists with...I also bought a Penn State Nittany Lions branding plate and it has the same problem. Still, overall, this is a pretty neat item.

Instructions are not very good so watch how you take things apart in order to get them back together. The bars that go across these pipes to spread the gas thru the entire BBQ have gaps and did not say whether you should bend or try to crimp them. Neither effort worked very well. I have a lot bigger flame near the rear of my BBQ than at the front but I try to use it to my advantage. Otherwise the quality of these pipes is good and the cost was waaay less than at the local hardware store.

This combo is a SOLID 25 lbs. Good quality product. Be sure to follow the directions and season it before its initial use. It would be a good idea to have a baster handy to siphon the excess grease from the grill. I used sea salt to clean up and made sure to dry the unit thoroughly before storing it away in the carry bag.

I bought this griddle for pancakes, grilled cheese, and the occasional hibachi-style Asian meal for my growing family. Overall, I think it's a solid choice for such tasks. It transfers and holds heat well, as cast iron typically will. The manufacturer's shipping department, however, proved unreliable to say the least. The first one we received was cracked due to insufficient packaging, and then they replaced it with the wrong product, and finally, almost a month after ordering it, a new one was delivered intact. I hope this experience is not typical, and the customer service rep was personally helpful.

The griddle is pretty well constructed, though I noticed that the flat side was not as flat as it should have been. It looked as if the ridges on the other side had caused a few undulations in the surface. It's not severe enough to really affect day-to-day use so far, but don't expect a plate-glass-flat surface.

I use this griddle on top of my 5-burner gas stove, and I can run all five burners under it for a full cooking surface. Or I can turn on two or three burners and reserve a space for keeping food warm. Be advised that there will still be some cooler spots between the burners, even with all of them going. If you insist on very even heat across the whole surface, you might be happier with a high-end electric griddle. That said, cast iron heats more evenly over a burner than most other cookware made of other materials, and you can learn to utilize the cooler spaces for slower cooking.

Anyone considering buying this product should think carefully about the product specs. The usable cooking surface is 23"X13", which is big. But be sure it will fit on your intended heat source. It may not sit securely on some stovetops. And yes, it really does weigh 25 lbs. Suffice to say, cleaning it can be a challenge. I usually scrape it thoroughly with a nylon scraper or spatula while it's still warm, and wash it down with hot, soapy water while it's still on the stovetop but has cooled somewhat. Then I heave it over to the sink to rinse it off with the sprayer. I return it to the stovetop to dry it over low heat. Or you can use a paper towel to dry it. I really like cooking on cast iron, so I think this extra trouble is worth it.

The griddle comes with a handy bag for storage, though the zipper broke almost immediately. And finding storage space for something this size can be interesting. It fits in one of our cabinets, but barely. The included instructions suggest seasoning the griddle before using. That's a nice idea, but it doesn't fit in my oven, and because seasoning produces a lot of smoke, I'm not about to do this on the stovetop. Fortunately, a well-cared-for cast iron surface will eventually build up a very nicely seasoned surface. Finally, although this feels very durable, be aware that any cast iron can crack or shatter if dropped on a hard surface, so handle it carefully when moving it.

Best Deals for Camp Chef 24IN Reversible Grill/Griddle

The grill works as promised. We use it only for pancakes. The metal surface is smooth and high quality cast iron. The only problem is this puppy is heavy and large. Perhaps I got carried away when ordering one this big.

Honest reviews on Camp Chef 24IN Reversible Grill/Griddle

Although this griddle can cook a pound of bacon at a time, it has a major design flaw. The manufacturer did not temper this capacious slab of cast iron. So while enjoying the normal popping and splattering noises of bacon being rendering into luscious breakfast meat, I suddenly heard an explosion. Someone had fired a 50-caliber round into my kitchen at short range! Ok, no. It was just my new griddle. It had cracked right down the middle. Cast iron items must be "tempered" at the factory post-casting. This object probably was not. I can't recommend it, because the resulting crack lets cooking grease drip right over the burners.

It was larger and heavier than I expected, so great quality. That also makes it hard to wash, but I am absolutely happy with my purchase.

I actually use it on top of my stove and grills excellent. I can make anything from Waffle House style pancakes and hash browns, to the best grilled chicken perfect for a panini sandwich.

Worth the buy.

These gloves are worth having for grilling or rotisserie use. They do have their limitations. Originally, my gloves came with a rotisserie oven I received as a gift. The instructions show using them to handle food hot out of the oven. I used them that way successfully. Later I used them when taking the rotisserie off the gas grill. The bar is extremely hot and although I took it off the grill easily, I noticed that the heat seemed to wear or melt the coating. The next time I used them, I noticed the coating melting more and I figured they wouldn't last much longer if I continued to use them that way so I bought the more recent pair with the intention of using a silicone potholder with the gloves to remove the rotisserie bar.

These aren't good enough to last a long time. What is disappointing is that most of the other products which are similar in price range probably are not going to meet expectations as well.

This is disappointing, since I consider these extremely valuable when trying to flip or remove large pieces of meat (like pork shoulder) on a smoker.

My issue is that the heat tolerance is very low. I cook no higher than 250 degrees on my smoker, and one of the fingers already looks a little melted from when I was handling the meat. I have only had mine for a month and a half or so. It also has orange stains everywhere (probably from the paprika I put on the meat)which will never come off. And it has some deep melt lines from when I tried to close the bottom vents near the charcoal (my mistake, I knew better). These aren't going to last me very long. They are inexpensive tho.

I read on a bbq forum that one guy uses cotton gloves covered by disposable food handling gloves. That may be the road I go down in the future when these are toast. There are also much more expensive insulated gloves ($30 range) on food service websites which are black in color and look pretty tough. You get what you pay for.

Not a recommended purchase.

Best Deals for Mr. Bar-B-Q Insulated Barbecue Gloves

I have had these gloves for a little over 2 years now. They are holding up well after probably close to 150 racks of ribs, 60 or so briskets, and countless chickens.

As noted in another review, the gloves do stain. White was probably not the best choice for BBQ gloves. The same reviewer also pointed out that the gloves melted when he touched hot metal. That is not what these gloves are for. They are designed to handle food. If you want to handle the pit, get some cheap welding gloves. You shouldn't be contaminating your food handling gloves, anyway.

These gloves clean easily (except for the aforementioned staining). Put on the gloves, turn on the hot water, and wash you gloves with dish detergent as if you were washing your hands.

If my current gloves ever wear out, I will be buying another pair. I can't imagine cooking BBQ without them.

Honest reviews on Mr. Bar-B-Q Insulated Barbecue Gloves

Adding to the other negative reviews, these glossy rubber gloves get very slippery when handling greasy meats like ribs and pork butt.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Mr. Bar-B-Q Insulated Barbecue Gloves

I bought these gloves because they were priced well and had pretty positive feedback. HOWEVER,I did find these gloves to be a bit hard to handle meat. Big pieces of meat slip right out of your hands with these gloves on. I also find it hard to keep these looking clean because of the light color. Some might not care about that but I thought I would add that to this review.

I have found a black pair of BBQ gloves sold by Texas BBQ Rub(cheaper)that always looks clean and are better than the 5 previous brands I have tried.

I got my bag at Lowes for $10. Although that was a a 700 cubic inch bag. I'm not sure why but Weber smoking wood was also almost double the cost on Amazon when compared to Lowes, Home Depot and even gardening stores with grill sections. So be aware of that when purchasing.

The smoke wood itself is actually great. Lots of good, fist sized chunks although some of them are kind of small. I tend to like a little variation but I know some like 100% fist sized chunks (3"x4"). Other chunks were actually kind of over sized and oddly shaped but it all worked out in the end. There were some chunks with bark but not too many. I would definitely buy this wood again and I intend to choose this brand over the Weber stuff. But I definitely would not pay this much for it.

It looks like a very small refrigerator.

Every piece of sheet metal is sanded on the edges, no cuts from sharp edges.

Easy to put together, no more difficult than putting together a refrigerator.

Quiet as a refrigerator too.

Read the instructions and season it first as directed.

You will need extra wood pellets. It does not come with any in the box, so order some extras. Each pellet lasts about 20 minutes.Bradley Apple Bisquettes 48 pack

NOTE: you have to put at least 4 pellets in the stacker to get it to burn 1 pellet. Just the way it works. I put in two pellets and nothing smoked. It needs 4 pellets to push the pellets along the tray to the burner. Not a problem, just try to remember that 3 of the pellets won't burn.

So, if you want to cook for 4 hours you need: 3 pellets per hours x 4 hours = 12 pellets + 3 pellets to get them to burn plate = 15 pellets.

I tested a Butterball Turkey Breast first. I followed the Bradley instructions in their cookbook Bradley Recipe Book Volume 1 for the turkey cooking temperatures. I used their glaze recipe under the skin. I also used a wireless remote meat thermometer Oregon Scientific AW131 Grill Right Wireless Talking BBQ/Oven Thermometer feed the probe wire through the roof vent of the smoker. I used the apple pellets from Bradley Apple Bisquettes 120 pack

I sat back and waited. A few hour later the Oregon Scientific AW131 Grill Right Wireless Talking BBQ/Oven Thermometer began to chirp "almost done" "Almost done". The wireless thermometer is great because I was smoking the week of Thanksgiving and it was in the 30's outside so not having walk out to the smoker to check the meat was ideal. (My wife was concerned about the smoker being able to maintain cooking temperature in the cold outside. This smoker was stable, the temperature stayed steady. the outside of the unit did not get hot to the touch, except around the smoke vent which is to be expected.)

I used a Taylor Analog Instant-Read Dial Thermometer to verify the temperature of the meat when the wireless told me it was done. Both thermometers were within a degree of each other.

I took the turkey breast out of the smoker and let it rest for about an hour. The color was extremely golden skin. Not black or Smokey but as if was dipped in golden lacquer. A gorgeous turkey breast. No burnt places, not excess smoke, perfect. When I carved the Turkey breast it was as moist as a wet sponge. Unbelievably tasty, nothing like store bought smoked turkey. The taste of the turkey was like that of caviar compared to fish sticks, it was rich, smooth and wonderful.

This smoking robot works. Just add a Oregon Scientific AW131 Grill Right Wireless Talking BBQ/Oven Thermometer to you don't have to walk outside and let it do its job.

Also, we ran the smoker on our back porch, about 10 feet from the house. It only exhausts a small amount of smoke while working. It did not look like a fire at the, just a little smoke, less than the steam from a tea kettle. If you cheat and peak while it is cooking you will get your clothes smoked and have to change for dinner, but the smoke from the smoker did not get into the house otherwise.

Easy to setup, easy to control and easy to cook with. Oh, the trays are 11x15 so you could put a 12-14 pound turkey in it. Next is a Roast, Ribs and some Cheeses. The Bradley Recipe Book Volume 1 also includes recipes for cheese, fruit, and more. Just follow the instructions and be patient. It can do both hot and cold smoking.

This is a very slick little unit with a digital temperature control and automatic smoke generator, using a wood chip biscuit feeder. Technically it should be hands off. More on that later.

It is made in the Orient and resembles one of those small inexpensive refrigerators complete with plastic trim. The interior is lined with very thin gauge Stainless Steel, and has 4 thin gauge racks. It is fairly light weight especially without the smoke generator attached. Assembly was fairly straight forward and is easy to move around.

The smoke generator uses lightly packed disks consisting of small wood chips. These are distributed by Bradley in various wood types. The smoke generator heats them individually on a small plate until they smoke. After 20 minutes another is indexed into place, pushing the used up bisquette as a blackened disk into a water tray, just short of rendering it to ashes. A tubular magazine holds enough bisquettes to last for many many hours.

The main issue I have with it is it's very poor temperature control. The key to smoking meat is to keep the temperature low and slow. This unit struggles with that, deviating considerably from the set temperature, specifically going higher. There is a 500W heating element in the smoke tower that comes on once the thermostat drops 10 degrees below the set temperature. The actual temperature in the smoke tower rises rapidly once the heater comes on but the thermostat lags way behind, allowing the actual temperature to rise well above what is desired. The temperature could be some 40 degrees or more above the thermostat reads. This is an especially serious problem if you are using a sugar based rub, because it will start to burn above 240 to 250F. Not to mention the fact that the meat will cook too rapidly.

Also being that the smoke tower has so little mass there isn't much to hold the heat, so opening the door to check on the status or baste causes the temperature to drop rapidly.

The other issue I have is that after 3 hours of smoking, I was surprised to see that the meat showed little evidence of smoking. The taste was there somewhat but seemed weak.

In my final analysis I would say you get what you pay for. Conceptually it has a lot to offer, and it's design seems very well thought out, but in practice falls short. With just a little more effort in the way of a better thermostat it would be immensely better. Also I'm not convinced it needs a 500W heater, it's possible a 250W unit could keep up and improve heat versus thermostat control.

Update: It's Superbowl Sunday 2012 and I'm using my Smoker for some Chicken Thighs. It's only the 4th time I've used it in just short of a year from when initially purchased it. It heated up initially but then packed it in after about 30 minutes. The heating element has failed. I now get to check out their customer service.

Update: Customer service is so far excellent.

Best Deals for Bradley 4 Rack Digital Smoker

I've owned the OBS for about a momth now and have smoked all kinds of meat. It's so simple and easy that I know I will be using it far more frequently than a standard smoker just because it's easy. I'm able to run it on my deck without worry of torching the house since it cooks with electric element.

One of the cons of this product as I was researching it is that you have to buy Bradley's wood chips (biscuits) to use in the feeder mechanism and the cost associated with that. I don't see that as a problem at all since you'd be spending money for charcoal and or standard wood chips anyway. True that running this unit would be a bit more expensive than another electric smoker. But, it's well worth the additional operating cost to be able to run an overnight smoke without having to get up in the middle of the night several times to add wood for smoke or stoke a fire.

One last thing....if you're comparing the Original Bradley to the Digital Bradley; buy the Original and purchase the Auber digital PID with it instead of buying the Digital Bradley. The Auber digital component is a plug and play digital temp control unit that is much more accurate than what is provided with the Digital Bradley. I find on the Bradley forum that many who bought the Digital Bradley end up purchasing the Auber PID to override the standard Bradley digital component anyway.

Honest reviews on Bradley 4 Rack Digital Smoker

Note, comments relate to the 6-rack digital but I believe are largely applicable to all the Bradley Smokers

I was really excited to get this product and spent over a year trying to get it to work. After a year and a bunch of research I came to the conclusion that the product is crap. You are welcome to do your own research but I think what you will find is that this product is very easy to use. However, the ease of use comes at the cost of a smoker that does an unsatisfactory job of actually smoking. As you know the key to good smoking is maintaing conistant heat and the Bradley is simply not designed to do this.

My list of issues are as follows:

1) The six rack smoker has the same heating element as the four rack smoker. So while it is significanlty larger it has no more power than the smaller model. I believe its heating element is only like 500 watts and I believe my wifes hair dryer has more power than that.

2) The heating element in the smoker is way underpowered for the six rack unit (and I suspect the four rack one as well). It takes over an hour to heat up to 200 degrees and then drops way down when you open it up to put the food in and takes well in excess of another hour to get back up to tempeture. It was so under powered that I would just leave the unit set at its highest setting, like 300 degrees, and I do not think I ever got the unit up past 250 degrees. Since it was so underpowered it took very long cook so that towards the end of my use with it, after the smoke had set, I would take the food out and put it on the gas barbque at 250 degrees to finish off.

3) Owing to the design every time you have to open the unit to check on the food you loss all of the heat (i.e. there is no effective heat sink) which then takes for ever heat up. Think about it, to service the unit you have to open the door competely allows all the heat to escape.

4) the design of the heating element creates hot spots along the back of unit and it is significanly hotter at the bottom than it is at the top. Bradley themselves recommend rotating the racks front to back and top to bottom to get an even cooking. This means you need to open the door which allows all the heat to escape.

5) the digital thermostat is located just above the heating element so it reads high. The spread between the tempeture reading on the digital unit and one taken manually from the top of the unit is like 30 degrees.

6) the digital thermostat has like a 20 degree varience between starting and stoping when it is at tempature. Do research, I read that people recommend buying the orginal and an after market digital thermostat which is far superiour and overall cheaper than buying the digital Bradley.

7) An electric smoker will not give you a smoke ring. The smoke ring comes from a chemical reaction related to the carbon burning off from charcol or wood. The smoke ring is a sign of good smoked food.

My reasoning for giving it 2 stars is because the smoke generator works wonderfully well.

The cons in my humble opinion so far out weight the pro's that a cheap guy like me gave the Bradley away. Spending almost $500 on a smoker to dump it becasue it does not do a good job hurts, expecially when all of the issues that I listed above are well documented on the net and I failed to do the detailed research before hand.

Rather than trying to modify the Bradley to try to get it to work I decided to buy a Weber Smokey Mountain. While WSM is lacking the electronics it is wonderful to use. It maintins the heat like an oven, I actually cannot believe how fast it heats up and how long it will maintain a constant tempeture without any adjustment. There is lots of support for the WSM on the internet and I really do not see it being any harder to use. Personally, I also like the idea of cooking with charcoal, it just adds to the mistique of smoking food and impresses the neighbors.

This product in my mind is just a gimmick which produces an unsatisfactory product. Please, do yourselves a favour and read the Bradley sites on the net and you will see all of the issue I mention above are documented and the modifications people are doing to deal with heat and tempeture issues. Knowledge is power.

I've actually had this for nearly two years. My wife initially scoffed at my purchase, suggesting it would only be used a couple of times before it was forgotten. However, she's since come around and we use it frequently -she actually uses it more than I do. We've probably put about 150 pounds of salmon and easily 600-800 pounds of brisket through it. In addition to ribs, turkey legs, sausage, potatoes and even eggplant.

My one complaint is that the fuse holder broke about a month ago (20 months after I bought it). I repaired it with a $1.99 fuse holder from Radio Shack and about 15 minutes of labor -by no means is this a deal-breaker, but at the price they could have sprung for a more durable component.

All-in-all the ease of use of this la-z-que is unbeatable. I can put a brisket in before I go to bed, load the feeder tube with pucks, set the temp and know it'll be perfect when I wake up.

Just check out the video's on youtube, wonder if it really works that great,

then think: That Princess at Amazon say's " It is the BEST grill I have ever owned,

I BBQ 5 nights a week, and have done so on dozens of grills.......

THIS IS "IT"!!!

It could clean up a bit easier, but hey it beats the others hands down.

Now the important thing in any castle dinning hall or courtyard patio is, how does it taste?

#1 INCREDIBLE WONDERFUL MARVELOUS!

Time? Steak is the fastest ever, that takes a bit getting use to, hardly time for a sip of that drink, time to eat.

This BBQ Brush is a solid brush to clean your BBQ grill. It is also long enough to prevent you from getting burned. To me buying a sturdy long brush will give you many grill cleanings for many BBQ's!

If you're staring at the raw meat in the fridge, and hungry, but you know you don't have the time, patience, or access to full on grillin'. Get a couple of these little grills, and be done with it in less than an hour. They're ready to go in about 18-20 mins. They can fit about 3-4 big pices of meat at a time, and leave no grill to clean. If you need more space, i recommend lighting more than one at a time, since the amount of charcoal inside is limited to about 10 pieces. make sure to place the grill on the wire stand provided with the grill, to avoid it loosing its shape when burning. an excellent product for busy people.
