I purchased this after my ole' handy meat thermometer broke on the ceramic floor.

It's solidly built, nice quality, but has some issues.

First when using it to check meat, the response time is quite slow. This is frustrating since the longer you wait with the grill/oven open the cooking temp drops. Secondly, as you wait for the final read, the thermometer itself can get quite hot to the touch. I almost worried that the plastic would melt.

Overall it's not the worst. Nice quality, but it's practical use is limited by it's slow response time.

Works as one expects. Left alone, the update is a bit slow. But as the directions advise, pressing the 'on' button forces an update. A few quick presses gets the current temp quick enough. Seems as accurate as another analog tester I have.

The oblong head keep this one from rolling off the table.

This is a well constructed thermometer, but there are three things worth noting.

The thermometer automatically measures the temperature only every 10 seconds UNLESS you press the ON button, in which case it will measure the temperature in 2 seconds.

The actual temperature sensor isn't at the tip. It's ~1.5 inches from the tip.

Lastly, some reviewers noted that a battery isn't included. That isn't correct. It is in a tiny plastic bag in the box, and easy to miss... but it is there.

Nice Item, but it can get pretty HOT trying to work over a hot BBQ while waiting for a reading as it is not exactly "Instant". Too bad there isn't some kind of remote so you could read without getting burned. But all that said, It's still good to have at times you don't know where you're at during cooking. It Is I beleive pretty accurate.

This grill is very easy to use. It's best feature is that it folds up to the size of a small attache case for portability. Very easy to carry, and sets up in under a minute.

It does not require a lot of charcoal, and cooks very evenly.

After use, if you dump the charcoal out (somewhere safe), it cools within minutes and can be packed up again.

It seems somewhat flimsy, but sturdy enough for use. The down side is it probably will not last for hundreds of uses. I have had mine for about 6 years now, used it maybe 30 or 40 times, and it is showing some signs of wear. Still works perfectly, but I bought another one 3 years ago to have as a spare if the original one fell apart. The spare is still in its box!

One warning: Make sure the surface under it is fireproof. I have used it on the grass, and the grass under it was scorched when I was done. You probably would not want to put it on a wooden picnic table, or on the floor of your boat!

Product arrive with paint coming off one of the fold out legs. After only 2 uses the paint on the bottom of the grill it's starting to come off from the heat. On the good side the grill cook quickly and very evenly, and the fold out design it's great to take to a park for a picnic or tailgating. Just don't expect it to last you more than 1 grilling season. But at that price you could have one every grilling season.

When I bought my Oval XL Charcoal Grill in this was a recommended purchase. I had no idea how essential it was. My only complaint is that, given how perfectly it does its job and how much the Primo Oval XL costs, it should have just come with the unit but that is perhaps an issue for the review on the grill itself. In any case, don't think about it, just get it if you have a Primo grill your life will be needlessly harder if you don't get this.

I purchased this item because of its light weight. I own and love my Weber Q 100, but it weights around 35 pounds. I'm getting a little older, and have very limited use of my left arm anymore. This grill is only 11 pounds which is so much easier for me to handle tailgating. I love the Griddle on top. I can toast my hamburger buns, while cooking my hamburger, make pancakes, or do eggs in the morning for breakfast, and not have to bring a skillet. Clean up on the griddle is super easy. I use Pam spray for grills on the grill its self which helps with clean up there. The heat guard or plate that sets between the burners, and the grill is a different story. It sucks to clean up. Don't melt your cheese on your burgers on the grill. Maybe the griddle, but not the grill, you don't want your cheese melting down to the heat shield. This shield also holds the grease from your burgers which causes flare ups, then lots of smoke. I also don't like the screw in valve on the side. Once you get it on you really never have to take it off. I take it off because of travel, don't want it to break, and find out to late in my parking spot trying to tailgate. Getting it on stinks. You assemble this whole grill to begin with. As you put the burner in, you put it in tail first, so that way it hangs outside of the grill, to accept valve and gas. The tail has slots in it, why I don't understand. To correct this they give you a little silver cup, to put over the tail, which gets secured as you put in the valve. This makes it hard to thread the valve properly. To me what this cup does is it covers the slots so wind does not blow out the gas, also so it can allow the gas to get into the burner, other than that you would have a nice fire next to your gas canister.

It is a nice product, with good concepts. To me tho this needs to be tweaked on a little bit more before I would recommend it to anyone.

Pros. Light weight, takes up less room, and griddle means I also don't have to bring a skillet. Pretty good tailgater all in all.

Cons. Flare ups, slots in burner tail intake.

I would also like to add that you have to put the handles on yourself, which is easy, but they give you flat washers to put on between the nut and top. You should really take these washers down to your local hardware store and match them up to lock washers, or your handles will keep coming loose. It's a pain in the butt that their engineers missed this, which is something so simple.

***** PART B ........ Last Year at Chicagoland Speedway during NASCAR race weekend I witnessed one of these grills burn. One of the families there had this grill on a waist high table. I smelled something horrible turned around and watched the green paint bubble, and black smoke rising from this grill. I yelled at them, and they got it off the table, and turned off in time to save their canopy from also going up in flames. No I don't remember what he was cooking. But like I said that heat shield holds grease, and flares up. I do apologize for not updating this after it happened. I completely forgot until I saw that someone had sent me a question on this grill. Give them all the credit for jogging my memory. Thank You R. Yu

I was intrigued by this grill and its grill surface and griddle surface. I thought this would be great for camping and tailgating. I was right. It is easy to assemble, only takes about 15 minutes. It uses the propane canisters and heats up very quickly. I tried sausage on the grill surface and pancakes on the griddle. They cooked very evenly. It is great that I now have a grill that can do both grilling and griddling. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all covered! The only small issue that I have is that the griddle is not super secure on the top of the grill, so you have to be careful if you lift the lid. Other than that, I am very happy with this purchase.

Purchased grill for family camping vacation. Only one side of the burner works well enough to cook hotdogs. Had to put the cover on in order to get enough heat to cook the hotdogs. Had problems with flare-ups. Didn't try the griddle since we barely got adequate heat to cook the hotdogs. We used the grill only the one time on the camping trip because we were so frustrated with it and have used the grill one time since cooking on only the one side of the burner. Poor design for transporting. You feel you need to carry this thing with two hands so it doesn't come apart when moving it. Since we purchased this while at camp the box and paperwork went into the camp fire. Hoping we can return the darn thing. At $55, this is a great buy. If you're looking for an affordable propane grill to take camping or tailgating, this will definitely get the job done. It's light, portable and easy to assemble. The regulator works nicely, and the griddle obviates the need for a pan.

Where the lid lacks a hinge, you will need some room to set the lid and griddle aside. I recommend not attaching the chains included to connect the lid and griddle to the base.

Bought this grill for use at football tailgates this year. I liked the small size and the portability of the unit but most of all, the integrated griddle in the cover. The combo griddle and grill feature allows us to leave the electric griddle at home and carry only one cook surface to the lot.

The grill and griddle surfaces cook well, although the small size makes it difficult to cook for more than 8 people at a time. The griddle surface cooks evenly, but there is no place for the grease from bacon or sausage to run. The griddle needs to be drained manually which makes cooking larger amounts of food tedious. The grill works as expected. Burgers and brats cook easily.

The compact packaging makes transport and storage easy and convenient. The cover and griddle is supposed to have a retention chain according to the assembly instructions, but I really don't understand the purpose. Assembly is easy, although the handles should really be attached with lock washers instead of the flat washers provided.

In all, this grill is a good value and performs as expected. It is not the perfect grill for all situations, but it excels in being a portable cooking surface for small/medium groups. The grill AND griddle feature means you don't need to buy/bring additional cookware...saving money and space (the reason I bought the grill).

1. 15+ years ago I read tests that charcoal BBQ'sreally put "LOTS" of very bad carciniogens into your meat!

2. So I went to a gas BBQ. Not as good tasting as charcoal, but "SUPPOSEDLY" healthier?

NOT!Now I read tests that gas BBQ's are little healthier than charcoal! The "deadly" carciniogens are in the drippings smokecoming from the hot lava rocks below!

3. So I now go to the MECO electric grill.

Pros-

a. Healthieras virtually no smoke (grill/elements are steeply slanted, and drippings collect in a handy pan under the grill).

b. No having to mess with expensive propane gas...

c. Well made, and sturdy.

d. Low fire dangerAcceptable for most apartment complexes. ASK!

e. Sears steaks well (preheat on high for 15+ min, and close lid FAST! Requires a "Heavy Duty" electric outlet!). Cooks just as fast (or faster) than gas. BUT, "NO!" BBQ taste! You will probably need a marinade...

Good "web search" recipe I found for steaks...-

I pre-mix & rub in, a blend of-

salt ("AlsoSalt"is very healthy and GOOD tasting!), black pepper, chili powder (all in equal parts...), and a little cayenne pepper. You can also add any other seasonings you like, to taste...

PAM makes a "High Temp" cooking spray, for the grill ONLY (leaves a "varnish like" residue on pans!).

AMAZING! CLEANING TIP, for burned on... foods!!! This works on ALL pans/grills...-

1. Clean/scrub conventionally..., as best you can.

2. Mix a little water with Comet, and make a paste. Wipe on burned surface. Place in a sealed plastic bag/garbage sack..., and leave for 24 hours.

3. Should now clean easily with Dawn & scouring pad... (may take two applications?).

4. Cons-

a. This is difficult and time consuming (2+ hours! & I'm VERY handy!), to assemble!

TipsPounding on the axel end caps was a challenge (finally laid it on it's side, and put a 1/4 drive socket (for backing, on the other end)) & hold cap with pliers.

You will surely drop screws...!!! (I put an old sheet underneath it).

While putting it together we noticed two little end pieces were missing, but that was of little consequence. Also noted...the hole that is for drainage to a little outside cup is up too high to be of any use. We put a sheet of aluminum foil to line the bottom to catch any drippings.

The tray is also hard to remove as directed. If the grid was set a little forward it would come out easier.

The unit heats up quickly and does a great job with steaks, fish. Did cook hamburger that wasn't as lean as label said, and with the heat on high there was a fire. That can happen on any electric grill. I have another electric grill at different home and I like this one better. An improvement would be an outside indicator of what the temperature is inside the closed grill.

I basically like this grill a lot. It's not expensive and does a nice job.

Classic Accessories makes very nice covers but description is wrong. At the time of purchase, description was 26"x26"x40". Actual is 26"x26"x29", way too short for my Smoke Hollow smoker. I bought this grill cover for my Weber Charcoal Grill. It fits just fine. I needed it to replace the Weber Standard Grill Cover I had purchased that had torn. Suggest this cover or the Weber Premium cover...don't waste your money on the standard one like I did. Also bought the Veranda firepit cover, the umbrella cover and the cushion bag. They are all very nice products and I look forward to many years of service from them.

I purchased this grill cover to go with a Weber One-Touch kettle grill I received for Christmas last year. With the grill, I also got a Weber Slide-Aside lid holder and Weber's premium grill cover. With the Slide-Aside accessory attached to the grill, I had a difficult time getting the Weber cover to fit. So now what? Check Amazon for an alternative cover, that's what! And I discovered this a very nice grill cover that costs less than Weber's premium grill cover.

This cover is made from strong, rubber-coated (interior), canvas-like fabric. It has sturdy stitching, a handle on each side, mesh vents so wind won't take your grill for a flight, plastic buckles to hold the cover to the grill, and an elastic drawstring with ball clasp to keep it snugly in place.

So far, it has held up quite well. I was impressed that this cover comes with a five year warranty, so we will see if really holds up that long. At least I found a use for the Weber cover to protect my grill-side table.

Highly recommended.

I bought this item because of the size shown, i.e. 26 inch, thinking I would use it to cover my new 26 inch Weber Kettle. No way! It doesn't come even close to being big enough. I still have a 22 inch Kettle so I may keep it for that but that leaves me uncovered on the 26 inch. The quality is what I expected and that deepens the disappointment that it can't be used for what I purchased it for. I also bought the 20 inch cover for my Weber Smoky Mountain smoker. I got it on but wonder if I will ever be able to get it off. Again the quality is what I was after but the sizing just isn't what one would expect. Buy bigger or be prepared to return it. For their quality I'd give a 5 star but the sizing just doesn't measure up.

I origanally bought the large grill cover for my gas grill and was very happy with that purchase. Though I have had the covers for only a couple months, they seem durable and look great. When I bought a large green egg, I was not impressed with egg covers. Plus, I wanted the grill and egg covers to match. Based on the information I found at several sources, I ordered the kettle cover hoping it would fit. Though it does not cover the egg stand to the ground, it does cover the entire egg and about 1/3rd of the stand. I am very happy with the cover.

Smoker showed up with one of the welds broken that holds the cooking racks. I was almost willing to get this repaired myself until I found that the thermometer did not even fit into the cooking chamber. I then noticed multiple areas where the welds were not complete in the cooking chamber therefore smoke would escape. I tried contacting Medina River via email and phone with no response. Medina River customer service is non-existent. I would never purchase any of their products. Luckily, Amazon is a great company as they picked up the smoker with no issues and refunded my money.

I received the smoker today and it was damaged in a couple places. The unit appears well made and is much heavier and thicker than the ones found at Walmart or Home Depot. I called Amazon and they ordered me a replacement. It is suppose to arrive a week from today. I really hope this one is not damaged. The price has raised about $100 since I ordered, so I think it is a good value if I can receive it undamaged.

4/19/2011 Less than a week later, I received the replacement and the damaged one was taken away. The replacement is in very good condition. Only a few minor scratches. The hardware was in a sealed bag unlike the first unit that had loose hardware everywhere. It took me about 2 hours to put together myself. I have seen $150 offset smokers at the big box stores and $1000+ ones from Meadow Creek, Lang, etc. and not much in between. I would say the Medina River 67 is easily $400-$500 better than ones found at Walmart or Home Depot for $150, but I am not sure a $1000 model is $400-$500 better. Hope that makes sense.

I received the Madenia River Jumbo Smoker #67 the other day and assembled it in about two and a half hours. Except for the firebox and two of the legs, I assembled it by myself with relative ease. The installation instructions were very easy to follow and very through. The quality of the packaging materials was exceptional. The smoker arrived in terrific condition. I think some of the other reviewers issues with scratches / damages or materials either missing or loose in the shipping container may have been the result of poor handling by the shipping company and not the original manufacturer. Also, the quality of the construction materials used and the construction of the smoker itself seems to be very good. As a structural engineer, I am very impressed with the construction. I look forward to many years of quality use. This smoker / grill is constructed of MUCH MUCH better material than those sold at your local department stores or home improvement centers --as you would expect for the additional expense. Again, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. BTW, I messed up the thermometer during installation and the Medina River folks sent me a replacement right away with no issues.

Before buying this product, I was looking for a thermometer that could easily measure the insides of meat quickly and efficiently without chopping the thing to shreds. Being a college student, I (yet again) opted for the less expensive products, which I thought were just as good--if not better--than the more expensive ones.

And yet again, the sellers on Amazon prove me wrong.

Buying Price: $12.90

Not only is the thermometer slightly large for its intended purpose (it measures about 13 inches in length), but it also does a very poor job at *efficiently* measuring the temperature of meats. Granted, it will measure temperature within a wide range (it even read my indoor room temperature at 74°F), but it just takes a while for the thing to "warm up", so to speak. For me, while cooking chicken in a skillet, it took anywhere between 15 and 25 seconds for the thermometer to gauge an accurate reading, which I believe is definitely too long for any serious chef, especially if your prized poultry is burning on the stovetop or grill. The digital reading is a very nice feature to have at such a low price, but if it gives a reading slower than an analog thermometer, I'd rather take the analog's speed over the digital's accuracy.

In addition to this, the slow reading times are even more negatively affected in that the tips of the thermometer are slightly large for smaller cuts of meat. While they seem small in the picture, the tips are actually far bigger than I had hoped for, resembling the shape of a pencil. The tips are quite sharp (and the manufacturer was smart to include hard plastic protectors so you don't poke yourself), but they can leave somewhat large, unsightly holes in the meat you're trying to cook--defeating your attempts to make it look as normal as possible.

There are several pre-defined temperatures on the thermometer (Well-Done, Medium, Rare, and Very Rare), which are the same for different cuts of meat, but these temperatures can be listed directly below the average temperature for comparison, which is extremely helpful for meat novices like me who do not know that there isn't a "Rare" option for chicken (oops, time to fix that bad habit). However, this pro is downplayed by the fact that once again, it takes quite some time for the temperature to gauge an accurate reading. I cannot say for sure how accurate the reference temperatures are, but I am fairly certain that they correspond to, or exceed, the FDA's recommendations on the temperatures for cooking meat, which ensures that you have non of that yucky bacteria infesting your food and the stomachs of those you cook for.

Every time this thermometer shows a potential for a good feature, it is downplayed by the problematic nature of the other features. This digital thermometer has a blue LED backlight for the screen, in case you live by cooking meat inside a dark cave and accidentally run across this piece of technology. The feature was well thought-out, but poorly implemented by a lack of a power button. The LED light shuts itself off after about half a minute (and turns on again upon pushing a button), but the digital display remains running for a full couple of minutes before the entire thermometer turns off. It would have been nice to have a power button to conserve batteries, as this does use a couple AAA batteries.

This thermometer is very light, and can act as a spatula in a pinch (due to its thick metal tips), or a fork for moving that food onto your plate (if you don't mind small holes in your meat), which is how I primarily use it now.

Bottom line:

A well thought-out product, but poorly implemented and designed. Consider buying a more expensive thermometer that gives a faster reading time for those hard-core grillers or meat fans. It does its job, but if you are somewhat impatient and perfectionist regarding your food, opt for the smaller, faster thermometers.

I received one of these as a gift, and have found it works just fine. I use it to be sure I'm cooking 'enough but not too much' when I have a nice piece of meat.

Formerly, I'd cut nicks into the edge of a steak to see how the cooking was progressing. With this lil' guy, I just poke it into the 'work' occasionally, and get very good results without a tattered looking meal. I find I have to adjust my expectations slightly it tends to have you cook things a little more for any "preference" title (as in its "Medium" is my "Well Done"). As you use it, you'll get used to this and choose your done-ness accordingly. Great tool, safer cooking.

This has really worked well for me when bbq'ing. Handy to not have to put it down and pick up something else to turn the meat. I store it in my kitchen and admit to having used it there too.

After having had a temperature fork, which worked great and was very reliable for many years, we purchased this fork in December 2012. After 3 months of constant frustration and inaccurate reading, we are ditching this fork for good. The ditigal display turned itself on when stored in the drawer, only resort was to remove the batteries. We are saving the batteries and cut our losses on this fork. Hopefully our next one will be better, but definitely not this model!
