Zinger Grills, Versatile Portable Fire Pit & Grill
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

You get what you pay for. Zinger is an excellent value. We like the size and versatility. BBQ and campfire in one. We use it camping on weekends. It is heavy to lug around. Really needs two people to move it around. We have purchased smaller portable fire pits but they are smaller. Regarding quality we mistakenly thought because of sheer weight that the zinger would be made in USA. Not the case. Made in china. The black paint burned off leaving blue and white metal. A can of black grill spray paint fixed that. It's a zinger!

The good news:

-It's bigger than I thought. You can fit enough food for a decent meal for two people on one cook, and small meals for 4. Will fit roughly 4 small hamburgers or two jumbo burgers and a couple hotdogs/brats.

-It's pretty compact so it has pretty even heat.

-It seems very durable and sturdy

The not-so-good news:

-The ash tray is pretty shallow, so if you're using lighter fluid be careful as it may drip.

-There is no cover to control the flames, nor are there any vents.

-Because it's small and pretty even heat, you have to take things off as soon as they are done, no room for warming.

Overall I am planning on using this for camping with my significant other. We don't have a lot of room in our car on camping trips so this little guy works perfect for us.

This new Camerons Tailgator Grill is a great way to cook on the go or at the game.

It is small and compact, but can cook up to 8 pounds of meat, on a minimal load, of briquette's.

I really like the way this thing cooks meat . It gives meat , that special flavor ,that only quality products, put out.

PROS:

I love the stainless grill mesh ,that keeps the heat, to the meat.

The briquette's are in a vented holder ,down below ,that burns them just right.

It comes with it's own carry bag and is light and easy to store.

We give this product a high recommendation ,for cooking quality ,economy of fuel and great looks.

I hope this review ,has been entertaining, and helpful , to help you, to make an informed buying decision.

I bought a Weber kettle w/ heavy duty cover in 1983...Several winters and high winds later, my Weber finally gave up (bent). I am receiving my new One touch Gold but the heavy duty cover just keeps on going. I mean no tears, cracks anything. WEBER, THANKS for a great product!!

We get very good use out of this cover. We have had it for about two years now. It protects our grill from the elements and keeps it looking fairly knew. It kept us from having to bring the grill indoors every time after use. Now the cover gets those white calling cards left by the pigeons instead of the grill!

Honest reviews on Weber 7701 Premium Kettle Cover Fits 22 1/2-Inch Charcoal Grills

After getting the Weber Simpsons grill as a bday gift I needed a cover for it. The grill has been on the outside deck for 2 years now and this cover has done a great job keeping it clean.

The cover itself is very cheap considering how long it lasts and how well it works.

I highly recommend it.

I am a huge enthusiast of Weber Grills. Subsequently, I also seem to be an enthusiast for their grill covers. Compared to other grill covers that I have used, or have watched friends use, I am thoroughly satisfied with this cover's strength, durability and visual appeal. I grill year round in Ohio, so I have yanked this cover off of my kettle in all different temperature extremes. While similar covers have not held up under similar conditions, this cover has.

The only negative with the kettle cover is that if you happen to purchase the optional lid holder, the cover will fit over it, but is incredibly tight. Although it is a slight inconvenience, the cover still holds up...and works.

One last thing...although I will grill two to three nights a week, my Weber Grills still look good when not in use...thanks to their Weber Grill Covers. Consider this cover a necessary accessory.

Buy Old Smokey Electric Smoker

Old Smokey Electric Smoker
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

Sometimes, I tell myself sternly, you don't *have* to get obsessed. I could have spent a lot more money for a smoker, but I wasn't sure that I'm committed to this kind of cooking. The Old Smokey was our compromise between the really cheap, rickety smokers we saw in the hardware store and the "serious" models that cost over $200. And it was the right choice.

After using it three or four times, I'm really glad I chose this model. The operation is simple, and the equipment was put together without cussing. The workmanship is good; this thing won't fall apart.

I had a friend sneer at our choice of an *electric* smoker, but nobody has complained about the food that came out of it. Its convenience can't be beat: we plugged it in outside, and we could walk away. I didn't have to worry about running out of propane or loading up more charcoal. (Of course, we _didn't_ walk away... we came back ever so often to mop the brisket. But I didn't have to fuss.)

The smoker has two shelves, each of which (I can say assertively) can easily hold a 10-pound shoulder of pork or an 8-pound brisket. It's a good size, does the job it advertises, and it's made well. I'd buy it again.

Previous Reviews

Before buying this smoker, I poured through all the reviews to ensure I wasn't buying a dud. I found several to be helpful, but I didn't find one that covered everything I was interested in so here goes... But let me give you the punch line first, the unit operates as advertised and you shouldn't have any problems, but here's a few things to think about...

Vendor to buy from...

The first thing I noticed in the reviews were several said their smokers arrived damaged and recommended not to buy from Northern Tools. They said in most cases they were able to fix the problem themselves by bending the metal back in place. That's fine, but if I buy something brand new (and pay a brand new price), then it should be brand new.

I was extremely worried about the lid where this seemed to be a trouble point. I wanted the lid to fit snuggly as it should, not bent! I'm not buying a smoker to smoke meat just to have it escape through a damaged lid!

So I ordered from River Country. At the time, their price was the same as Northern Tools (if you realized theirs was $20 more, but you got the gauge) and the shipping was actually less. The unit arrived quickly, but the box was damaged. Upon opening the box, I found the unit to be very poorly packed. This is an Old Smokey problem, not River Country or Northern Tools. Just one piece of bubble wrap seperated the top from the unit, but nothing wrapped the unit inside the box. So I did have dent

in the side of mine. But the lid was fine so I was placated. Nothing was missing.

Construction

The unit is easy to assemble, instructions are clear, but this isn't a high durable item. The handles just screw in with nuts and loosen over time unless you are able to really ratchet them down. The socket to plug the power supply in is loosening on mine as well (although this part came preassembled), but I should be able to tighen this too.

The one feature I really don't like on this unit is the way the shelves and drip pan are held in place. You put in screws, tighten with nuts and then the shelves and drip pan just sit on the screw lengths. From a weight stand point, I haven't had a problem, but let me tell you, if I had a dollar for every time my hand, sleeve, hot mitt etc... snagged on the screw, I could buy a nicer smoker. You constantly have to reach in, of course, and getting a little snag or a small slice in your skin due to a screw thread isn't fun. ESPECIALLY when you try to clean the unit.

The racks have folding handles, a very nice feature, so you can turn

them downward a little. This is so handy so you don't have to paw

the sides of the smoker with your mitts to get a hold of them since

if you didn't fold them down, they would be flush with the sides. The

racks are very light weight, but seem to hold weight well. The drip

pan is heavy duty! The small tray for the wood chips has very subtle

edges, but it's not enough to keep chips from falling off. If you accidently hit the tray, like when you're lowering it into the smoker, chips fall off. A wire basket or high edges would have been a nice feature, but not on this one.

The unit sits on a wire stand. It's not much to look at, but does the job quite well. Mine seems level and doesn't wobble or tip.

Last item to cover here is the cord. It's heavy duty, should hold up

well over time, but it's only 5 feet long. It may seem like a lot, but

it's not. Most of us have our outdoor outlets by our front door or back

door and so now the smoker is setting next to a door where people are

coming and going. 5 feet just isn't a lot to move the smoker out of a

traffic area. I'm sure you can use a grounded, heavy duty extension cord,

but I try to avoid extension cords on heating units.

The Gauge

Buy the temperature gauge! You absolutely need it to maintain the

temperature in the smoker. Outdoor temperatures really do affect

the inside temperature more than you might think. The gauge instructions

don't tell you where to place the gauge and this I understand. They

don't know what type of smoker or grill you might be attaching it to.

So I did fully expect the Old Smokey instructions to recommend

the best place to attach it, but it didn't. Very disappointing.

I really only had 2 options, in the lid or near the bottom. Anywhere

else it would interfere with the screws that hold the racks and drip pan

in place. I opted for the lid. Didn't want it too close to the heating

unit. This turned out to be a great choice. Now I can just glance

at the top and see the temperature and it seems to be representative of

the whole unit's internal temperature. I drilled a hole in the lid as

instructed, but the metal is so thin and pliable, it bent when I drilled

through it. But once I put in the gauge and tightened it down, the

metal evened back out and it looks nicely installed.

Operation

The unit operates very easily. Just layer the absorbant on the

bottom, put chips in the tray and turn on. It heats up very quickly.

Put in your drip pan and meat and you're smoking! As I said in

the very beginning, it operates as advertised. Remember though,

it's a tool, not a chef. I saw many reviews that talked about how

great the food was. That is more of your talent, not the smoker.

It will smoke to the temperature you select, but the rest is up to you.

Everything from the type, quality and cut of meat (or vegetables), rubs, marinades, sauces, type of wood chips, volume of wood chips, how long you smoke etc... One quick note, I have read from several sources, not to mop (baste) in electric smokers...

Size

Serious smokers may want to consider buying something bigger.

This just isn't going to hold a lot food. It will hold a whole pork

shoulder of average size on one rack and maybe a chicken

and some vegetables on the other. But whole slabs of brisket

for instance, will need to be cut down and then, will still probably

not all fit.

Final Thought

Overall, I am very happy with this smoker. It has a few annoying

features, but it performs well. It's a great buy for the casual smoker.

Best Deals for Old Smokey Electric Smoker

The closed system of this smoker works effectively and cooks efficiently. Everything I've smoked is juicy and tastes great. Much, much better than the water steamer smoker that I've been using for the last 10 yrs.

Honest reviews on Old Smokey Electric Smoker

I bought this product after reading so many good reviews. I cannot explain why so many people like it, but after 4 months of experimenting and tinkering and producing food my family will not eat I do not. I have decided to buy the Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18-1/2-Inch Smoker instead.

The old smokey electric is not a real smoker, because it is sealed there is no air flow past the meat,no combustion oxygen, and no place for steam to go. This results in the following problems:

The smoker will produce a tiny amount of smoke that will supposedly stay in the can to flavor the meat, then then it will produce no more, as all the oxygen will have been consumed, this smoke will eventually condense out into the bowl due to all the steam that invariably forms and will not penetrate the meat.

Over time creosote and tar will build up on the inside of the can, the steam produced by cooking mixes with this horrible tasting soot, and then impart the flavor to the meat. The first few things I made were OK, but over time the taste steadily degraded, this may explain some the positive reviews. They may not have used it as much or as long as I did.

The meat will not form a crispy outer layer (" the bark") that is a critical part of smoking. The steam washes away most of the rub you put on the meat and leaves a rubbery skin.

The meat will not seal, as the meat cooks the juices that would normally be kept in by a crispy skin will be squeezed out into the bowl, resulting in meat that is dry inside. You could sear it yourself first, but this would completely block out any smoke from possibly getting in the meat.

There is no online user group or recipe book for this smoker, you are on your own with recipes. The ones that come with it are completely wrong. You cannot cook a brisket by cooking it for 20 minutes a pound on high as the recipe book says. Ultimately I think this its biggest downfall. If you buy a smoker, buy one with a big user community that can help you.

If you really want to steam meat with a tiny bit of smoke you can do this yourself in the oven, just put some wood chips under your broiler pan and put your meat on top and you have created your own old smokey, or you can do it with something like the Cameron Cookware Gourmet Mini Smoker, or you can do it like they do it on the food network show "iron chef" with a "hotel pan", you don't need to buy this to do that.

In the end mine is but one review and you will need to look to places other than the overly positive Amazon reviews to make your decision:

Search the web for "amazing ribs" "virtual weber bullet" and "bbq source forums"

After reading through these you will learn that others have tried and failed with the old smokey electric, you will learn about what true smoking really is. You will find a massive following for the Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM) with loads precise details and recipes. Yes the WSM a little more expensive, but its a lot cheaper to buy the right smoker the first time, than it is to buy the wrong one first, and then buy the right one like I did.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Old Smokey Electric Smoker

I am buying my 3rd smoker. Each one I have owned lasted 8 to 10 years. I use them about once a month for many different dishes.

My absolute best use is for the holiday turkey. It is a no brainer. Just put it in, then take it out when it is ready. The turkey doesn't take up room in the oven and it is moist without basting.

You can season it any way you prefer, or stuff it. You can control the amount of wood chips for a light or heavy smoked taste or don't use any wood chips if you don't want the smoked flavor.

Other meats work about the same way.

Vegetables can be cooked in the pan below the meat. This is fix it and forget it method.

If you have a grill and need to know the temp...this little unit will give you 600 degrees f to choose from. I would recommend this to all:)

I took a chance and purchased this griddle about 1 month ago and after using it several times I can highly recommend it. Prior to using it for cooking I seasoned the griddle with shortening. This is easy to do and you can find some very good websites on how to care for and use a cast iron griddle. Thus far I have cooked bacon, eggs and pancakes using this griddle with excellent results each time. It fits perfectly on my Weber E-310 gas grill.

This product is not for the 2011 Genesis E and S series! It is for the 2007-2010 Genesis E and S series. Amazon needs to update this page as I ordered the product and once it came in the mail there was a nice sticker on it with a picture of the 2011 model with a red X through it. The picture of the 2007-2010 model has a green check mark. Checked Weber's page and it states there that this model can not be used with the 2011 models. Amazon please update your page so others do not have to go through this hassle.

The same problem exists for the rotisserie for the E/S series (model 7519). It is also only for the 2007-2010 models.Weber 7519 Gas Grill Rotisserie

OK, I should have believed some of the other reviews but I thought I would chance it. I ordered a 7532, the dimensions say 20.8 x 13.9 x 2, ok its not 2 inches thick and it actually measures 19-3/8 x 12-1/2 x 3/4. Amazon was great, they gave me instructions to send it back, then I ordered the Weber 7404, hoping it will be the size I want.....wrong answer, it says it measures 20.5 x 15 x 2 and it acually measures 19-1/4 x 11-1/4 x 3/4. Im sending it back too. I have emailed Weber a couple times and they have yet to reply......be careful what you order.

Honest reviews on Weber 7532 Cast Iron Griddle

I do like using the griddle on my weber, especially if you like cooking breakfasts! The only downside is the rough side is difficult to clean, this is why it didn't get 5 stars from me. The coating over the cast iron does make it easier to care for, since normal cast iron needs to be conditioned and carefully taken care of.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Weber 7532 Cast Iron Griddle

Works great on my induction range. The griddle is big enough to cover the 12" lower-right burner which means I can use it on either side of my stove. Previously, I used the Lodge version but found it to be too narrow, the handles cut into the cooking area, and the side drip collector took up too much space. The Weber is great because of the wide cooking area, and the drip area is in a location that doesn't interfere with cooking. Mostly I use griddles for cheesesteaks.

I got two of these "BBQ mitts" for my husband after he ruined one of my oven mitts handling a very hot cast iron skillet on the gas grill. That poor yellow mitt was scorched beyond belief. I figured black BBQ mitts would be perfect for him. They're longer than normal oven mitts, well constructed and fit great. Problem is, they fit ME. And I'm a woman. They are surprisingly narrow across the knuckle area. My husband will never be able to get his hands in those things. So these will be perfect for you if have trouble with normal mitts being way too big. Keep looking if you're shopping for a man!

Using this mitt makes me fearless in baking. It is long enough to protect my arms when I reach into the oven and it is the most heat-proof oven mitt I have ever had. It has seen some hard use in the 8 weeks I've owned it and has been through the washing machine 3 times, but it shows no signs of wear at all. It is all I need in an oven mitt.

Honest reviews on Charcoal Companion 17-Inch Flame Resistant Black BBQ or Oven Mitt

I first bought this 1 year ago and loved it. It was heavy duty. I just clicked on my old order and went to buy it again. What came in the mail this time is terrible. It is a bad "Made in China" knockoff. The 1st one was made in America. The Chinese version is thin and worthless. I will be returning it.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Charcoal Companion 17-Inch Flame Resistant Black BBQ or Oven Mitt

Terrible. I ordered because of the length of the mitt (I often burn my forearms on the upper oven rack). I used the mitt once (and note, it's not a pair, just one). I took a cookie sheet out of a 350-degree oven, and felt the heat immediately through the mitt; it offered virtually no protection, compared to my 10-year old mitts that at least allow me to carry a cookie sheet across the kitchen before I can feel any warmth through the mitt. I'll keep using the old, frayed mitts for now & keep looking for a better replacement.

The best grill I ever used and I used a lot of them. If u spin it u have a horizontal rotisserie. Its easier to raise or lower the grill if you lift the grill by the wire with one hand while releasing the chain with the other. Its hard to release the chain from the notch in the pipe if u just pull on the chain. If u have sandy soil or a permanent camp site, drive a longer pipe that has a 3/4 inch+ inside dia. into the ground to make it more stable and easier to remove the grill's pipe for storage. Leave the longer pipe in the ground and cap it when not in use.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

It's so easy to set up, just put the stake in the ground and place the top bar on top. No more standing over the fire burning your face, just swivel the top bar away from the fire and flip your food. There's a chain that lets you higher or lower the grill. You can make the grill rotate with ease making for even cooking. Hard to use a tripod again after cooking with this.

Best Deals for Wimpy's Swing-away Campfire Grill

The grill is easy to assemble and only took me about 10 minutes (including the time to pound it into the ground). The grill includes the pole that goes in the ground, the arm that swings the grill and the grill with chain (purchase your fire ring separately). The design is genius you can swing the grill away from the flames to to turn or move your food, so you don't get a face full of fire and smoke or burn your fingers. There are two convenient hooks for hanging your grill tools on the post. The chain doesn't get hot, and it stays well in place by the notch in the pipe. Quite easy to maneuver and sturdy, too held 2 steaks, 2 corn on the cob and 2 shishkabobs easily with room for more very good size. I prefer the taste of food cooked over a wood fire, and this is easier than a barbecue. Clean up is simple the grill disassembles fast. I bought mine for my backyard, but this set would be easy to take on camping trips, as well. I highly recommend this grill! Mine arrived a day later than anticipated, but the folks who are selling this are the ones who make and ship it and they responded immediately when I contacted them, and the holiday weekend is likely why it was a day late very nice people! Check out my photos above.

Honest reviews on Wimpy's Swing-away Campfire Grill

What a grill, fast set up,well built. Used this grill on my last camping trip and it was the talk of the trip. Where can I get one how much did it cost etc. The only bad thing about this grill is that I had to answer questions on it. We cooked, and cooked on this thing and really tested it. The welded pegs took a beating with a mini sledge to drive into the dirt with no problem, The ease of operation and the spin action came in handy as the food was cooked evenly. The first time I camped with out getting a fire tan. The side moving to turn food over was priceless. Enough of my typing and try one out for yourself.

This is a great grill for your backyard fire pit. Quality materials and durable. Short cable connector prevents the heat from traveling up through the chain. Large grill surface. Shipped faster than expected.

However, I would not use for really heavy grilling loads. I did not see a max weight, but the main shaft does bend a bit when using the chain to raise the grill.

Also, put a stopper of some sort on the end of the chain. If the chain slips through your hand, your food will end up in the fire.

Beats the old paint brush things. No hairs to fall into food, doesn't fall apart from the handle. I gave one to a friend to try in his restaurant and they all liked it so much they are ordering more. The softness and round ends let you egg wash baking products like bread with out knocking them down and the high heat proof is very important and it is heat proof. No problem on home pans or restaurant commercial grills.

I've tried a few different silicone brushes and I really like this kaiser a lot. The bristles are thinner and closer together then other brands so it really holds a lot of sauce. They are also more flexable because they are longer. Super brush and very easy clean up by hand or just toss in the dish washer. If you want a great brush for brushing milk or egg on pastry try the smaller mario batalli one, the bristles on that one are flat and each one is ridged great for applying liguids. But if you are looking for an excellent basing/barbq brush get this one, it's really super! Great gift idea too.

Well-made, big, heat resistant, but hard to wash off the extra-pungent barbeque sauce odor!

I'm amazed at how well this works. I should have been using these for years. Some have complained it doesn't hold as much as a boar bristle brush. I think it does but you need to use it differently. This brush needs to be dipped deeply to take on a good load. Since it doesn't have a ferrule like a bristle brush it's not a problem to dip the bristles all the way to the top. It is very gentle. I brush bagettes with an egg wash and it's gentle enough for that. Cleans beautifully in the dishwasher and is heat resistant enough to stir melting butter and hot sauces on the stove. It's just great. This one is big enough to use on a gas grill too and it won't melt or stick. It also doesn't take a set like a bristle brush. I will be buying more of these.

The Extra Large Kaiser KaiserFlex Silicone Grill Basting Brush is great for applying sauce on grilled BBQ Chicken. We have always used a mop style applicator but the greasy sauce was so hard to clean up and sometime, the metal bands around the mop would rust. We would use if a few times, but not more than 3 before we had to purchase a new mop. The silicone brush washes up beautifully in the dishwasher. I own 3 or 4 different sizes and highly recommend them.
