I have been using this for years. It is a different experience if you are used to briquettes. The lump will pop and crackle, sometimes violently. The key to lump cooking is that you DO NOT wait for it to ash over like briquettes. This lump is excellent for searing steaks at 700 F +, and also does very well on my low and slow 18 hour brisket smokes.
