This cooker is perfect! The peppers cook thoroughly and uniformly. The recipe suggestions are really good too. You know how you see people wrap the entire pepper with bacon? No more! One small piece of bacon sitting on the top of the pepper after it's stuffed is perfect. The juices from the bacon bathe the pepper as it cooks giving it a great flavor without the extra calories of half a piece or more of bacon. We got this as a gift at Christmas, and are going to buy another one for when we entertain. We make these a meal by finding very large jalapenos and stuffing with meat, cheese and bacon. Italian sausage (lite), cream cheese and a bacon piece topper is our favorite so far. We are also going to try this in our smoker.
Definately follow the instructions regarding poking a hole in the bottom of each pepper with a toothpick. This makes a huge difference. The larger peppers don't need a toothpick poked through it side to side, but smaller ones do as they shrink and can fall through. Not the cookers fault, just buy or grow big peppers. We cook on the grill with indirect heat at about 325 degrees and it takes about an hour to cook them thoroughly.
It's made of strong stainless steel and cleans in a snap after a few minutes soaking in warm soapy water. You can virtually spray it and wipe it after soaking. I love that it cleans up so easy!! Great product!!! I can't say enough about it!!This is the same cooker I saw at a Cabelas retail store. I thought I was getting a great deal on it, but the cooker at Cabelas was twice the size for the same money. I wish a picture and size description would have been available before I bought it.
