I bought this smoker pipe earlier this year and was very impressed with how it preformed. The construction of the unit is 100% stainless steel so I haven't seen any breakdown at this point. It does discolor after first use but that is because it is so close to the burner.
I use hickory chips the first time I used the Smoker Pipe and it was very effective. One recommendation I would say to all is to not put your foods directly over the smoker pipe or else you will get very strong smokey flavors. I would put your foods over to one side to keep it away from direct smoke unless you really want that smoke taste.
I highly recommend this product and it can be used in any grill, not just a Napoleon!

Tried a heavy cast-iron chip holder didn't work.
Tried the put-the-chips in an aluminum packet method didn't work.
Tried this one worked!
Put it on top of the flavorizer bars, either along the back of the grill or
in line with a burner and it starts smoking fairly rapidly.
I have no idea why it works better.

Excellent smoker, easy to use, sits right on the burner grate and emits smoke for 20 minutes. Ideal for chicken and or ribs.
