They're wood chips, they smoke, yum. Actually, they're a step above what I've used in the past. They're not too small and sawdusty like some, and they're not too big to give off good smoke. They're just right for a cast pan that I have just below the grate of my BBQ.Used these to make a new recipe for chili where I smoked the meat for 4 hours before making the chili definitely a winner.
