I guess this is my fourth smoker, and may be my favorite. I started years ago with a little water smoker. It was adequate but pretty limited. I moved up to a big wood-burner. It worked great but required pretty constant attention to maintain temp. I next bought an electric because I liked the idea of having a thermostatic control. It worked very well but the electronics made it too fragile. Even though I was very careful with it and stored it in the garage, the humidity from the smoking process caused corrosion of the internal wires. I've repaired them a couple of times, but since it wasn't designed to allow access, it is not an easy task.

So far, this smoker seems to be the perfect blend. It is easy to control and maintain the temperature. There are no delicate components to go bad. With five shelves, it has plenty of room for most of my needs. I smoked 3 15-Lb briskets yesterday and it performed flawlessly, even under windy conditions.

I have read complaints over the lack of double-wall construction. Perhaps that would have made it more heat-efficient, but it would have increased the price substantially and made this thing heavier, so I guess that's a compromise I can live with.

In all, I am very happy with this smoker.

Very well packed. Was delivered in a reasonable time. Easy to use! The bracket for the water drawer was broken. One phone call to Landmann, and the new drawer assembly was sent without question.

This smoker is a beast if you want to put more money into an already overpriced smoker. It arrived with a dent in the side that was not worth sending back, took about 30 minutes to hammer it out. The door came warped and it only seals with two under powered magnets, so I'm going to have to add a latch. The body of the smoker is just spot welded and poorly done at that. Both bottom doors had about a 1/2" gap and I'm sure it was from the damage from shipping. Like almost any smoker, I put a fireplace gasket around the doors. Once I had this all fixed, I gotta say this thing is a beast, temp is easy to control on both low and high settings. The thermometer was within a few degrees right out of the box and I haven't had to adjust it yet. Overall I love it, just find it hard to beleive that for over $500 you have to put another $50 into it. You can find this ALOT cheaper from other websites.

My husband loves his smoker as a fact most of the neighbors have smokers now so any given time you can smell one running and they are always going house to house, sharing their food and adventure and or advice on how it turned out so tasty, I can honesty say you will not get a bad smoke from this unit, it is always just right, get the Maverick wireless BBQ thermometer it is well worth it.

My old Landman got washed away in Hurricane Sandy. This 3895 GWLA is nice and big, the draws are a great improvement . This is a good solid smoker that should last for years.
