I have been looking for a pizza over/smoker for several years...I've looked at them all, including building our own. A month ago, we bought this unit, and I could not be happier.

Size and appearance:

In order to have it in a place near the kitchen, this unit has to sit on our front entry deck. I'm an architect and very fussy about how things look. The design is pleasing and efficient, and it's actually a very nice looking unit. It is also fairly easy to move, given the pull-out handles and wheels. Because our deck is covered, we added a flue extension to take the exhaust beyond the roof, and it works great. The best part is, if we ever move, we can take it with us.

Function:

Everything worked exactly as described. We use split birch (because we have a lot of it on hand), and the fire is easy to manage. Be sure to wear long BBQ gloves, as it gets quite hot, but that is what we wanted. We can get the oven up to heat in about an hour and a half, and the smoker part of the unit heats up instantly. We have yet to master the low/slow burn for cold smoking, but I'm sure we will. Our understanding of the fire/heat curve improves everytime we use it.

Food:

We have smoked chicken, beef roasts and almonds, and they were all amazing. The oven makes pizza exactly how I had hoped, crisp crust, browned edges, melty cheese. I bake a lot of bread and the bread is an order of magnitude better than my oven, which I could never get hot enough. I will never bake bread in a conventional oven again.

This unit is fully five stars. So glad this is what we decided on.

After all the research and making the best decision I could based on what I could find I called greencupboards and emailed the company. In less than an hour I had responses with great information. So late afternoon Monday I ordered and received it Friday! Heavy item so it takes two to put it together due to the weight but is a snap to position and put together. So after cleanup and burn in we were eating pizzas at midnight with friends.

Fire building due to the firebox is simple and efficient. Had usable heat in an hour but to really get it hot takes about two. So Saturday I fired it up again to smoke five racks of ribs. My buddy that has a green egg even was impressed as he said the ribs were amazing......! Challenge is learning how to work the fire to maintain the temp but after I put some time on this I am sure I will master the temp. That firebox is incredibly efficient and burns very little fuel for the heat it generates. So not to stop there we were making midnight pizzas again for those needing more food which I was excited to try out my new toy and expand my pizza making skills. No digorno here and fresh hot homemade pizzas to everyone's delight. Perfectly cooked homemade pizza.

Cleanup is a breeze as the firebox again is the star of this ecoque oven. Pulls out quickly and is so easy to get to that it should be a required design on any product of this type.

I know it has only been two days and I don't want to be one of those reviewers but this thing is worth every penny and is built like a tank. Plus it even just looks cool unlike your typical smoker. Five stars plus.....

The one thing that is not so good is the temp gauges that glow in the dark. Nice idea but in the daylight the light green numbers are not easy to read against the white background. A black background would have made it easy to read in the daylight and give you the glow in the dark bonus. But not a deal killer just something to improve on in later models.

Hopefully this will help anyone leaning towards a purchase of this type as it is not a cheap toy but an investment in a quality item.

We've used this wood fired cooker on chicken, bread, and pizza's and have found it to be as advertised. We assembled it in less than an hour and found it easy to move around on the patio. It takes about an hour and half to get it up to 450 F. or higher, but once the high temperatures are reach, you can maintain them with little wood. The oven is very efficient when it burns wood. I highly recommend this wood fired oven for anyone wanting to bake bread, pizza, and smoke meats.

This pizza oven has been great since I have received it. Cooking pizzas is easy and taste great. Smoking meats is easy and temperature control is made easy with the fire box air intake and ventilation control on the exhaust. The company customer service is top of the line. I had no issue in receiving new oven lining stones after shipment due to breakage in shipping. The construction is high end, enameled S/S and will last. I do recommend the company made cover; it has a built in zipper for easy installation / removal.

I first saw this on Cabela's for about $200 dollars more. When I saw I could order it on Amazon at a cheaper price with Prime shipping, it was a done deal. However, the following day after ordering the pizza oven, the freight carrier called me to confirmed a time when I would be home 6 days later. He then told me that there is no way that they can ship these units in 2 days, therefore, they shouldn't be advertised as Prime Shipping (in 2 days).

However, I'm extremely happy I got it here as fast as I did. My main concern was that North Korea was going to shoot off an EMP missile before we got our oven. I only gave it 4 stars because I have yet UN-packed it and tried using it. It's been raining here in western Michigan now for over a week and I haven't had a dry day to use it. There are other great reviews on this oven so I'm confident that it will be a 5 star rating before long. I will update my review once I make a 16 inch deluxe with extra cheese.

JUNE 8 2013

just fired this bad boy up and it was awesome. I used a combination of hickory chunks and charcoal for fuel. Took about an hour to get it to temp for making pizzas (550 degrees). I also used the top compartment (smoker) and made some chicken which turned out better than rotisserie chicken... All and all, I'm EXTREMELY happy with this pricey oven. When there is no electricity from an EMP attack or you have plenty of power, you'll be glad to know that you can make some scrumptious food in this pizza oven. Amazon had the lowest price than anyone else. Plus, the truck driver delivered it right to my back doornot curbed side. Do yourself a favor and just buy it....
