The Santa Fe is a large grill and seems like a good buy. The adjustable fire grate seems like a good idea but it doesn't fix this poor design. You have to use a LOT of charcoal in this sucker to get it going. If there was something to hold the coals together you could just fire up one side but there isn't. Also, the coals sit on a solid surface with a few holes. So instead of having air flow up through the coals the air flows across them. If the coals sat on a proper grate with proper air control you could control the temps of this grill better.
Good bbq can be accomplished with this grill but it is a LOT of work. I have watched over it tediously for hours. Do yourself a favor and get a kettle style grill with an aftermarket baffle if you want a versatile smoker/grill combo.

We grill all the time even in the winter. This grill is heavy duty and has worked great. I replaced the side shelves with treated 2x12 but that's all the maintenance it has ever had. I really like that mice cannot get into it to make nests that is a serious gross-out and i could not use a grill again where that happened. This grill is huge. You do have to make a coal damn for it I just used aluminum flashing and folded it in half to thicken it up, then formed it into loops works great. We live in a woods, so I have ample access to Maple sticks, and use them to subsidize the coals saves costs but also allows for a much hotter coal. The grill is so large that adding wood is almost always needed to get the heat up. There's plenty of room for logs in this grill it really is huge and the wood gives the food an added flavor and saves cost on charcoal.
We love this grill and I'm finally breaking down and buying another.
