I bought this grill as a replacement for a similar model I left behind in moving. Like its predecessors, it's a great grill. It is the only charcoal grill I know of (in its price range) that has an adjustable grilling surface so you can raise or lower or tilt the grill over the coals. This is why this grill is perhaps the best on the market, because it allows the user to cook as close to the fire as he wants, resulting in a more precise quality of doneness in the food. This feature also allows the user to compensate for charcoal fade, as the coals lose their heat intensity through time. The closable vents also permit the user to suffocate the fire when he's finished, leaving behind usable charcoal which can be recycled into the next batch of charcoal used for the next cooking session; a great way to stretch a bag of charcoal beyond its normal limit. The side shelf is compact but adequate. Nice design, good looks, rust resistant. All these features make it a must have charcoal grill for the enthusiast, leaving the gas grill for the larger and longer cooking sessions as propane is more expensive than charcoal.

I know everyone is into gas grills these days, but since I'm an occassional griller, this does the trick. Besides, I like the taste the charcoal gives to the food, which gas does not. Assembly instructions not as specific as I would have liked, but got it together in a hour with no glitches. Cooks very nicely. One hint, don't overload the grill with charcoal, it doesn't take much to get a good heat going as we found out!Best Deals for Meco Charcoal Grills - 4101 Charcoal Bbq Grill With Fold Down Right
I have a old Meco 4101 that a friend left at my house after a 2001 July 4th cookout. I used this grill for almost ten years. I always left it out in the rain and snow and never covered it. The ash tray and cooking grid were never cleaned and in sad shape. After years of use and neglect it looked like a rusty primer colored hulk. I have now completely overhauled this grill with new wood for the fold down table ,handles and knobs. Red and black high temp paint was used for the body. Ace hardware has everything these days. I had to go to Amazon for a new cooking grid and ash tray. The body's underside and legs were rusted but not all the way through. I spent $28 bucks on paint, wood, and new fasteners. The old girl was saved from the junkyard. She cleaned up nicely and I hope to get another ten years out of it.I have a new Weber also, but this old Meco is by far a better grill. The Meco's advantage is the adjustable height of the cooking grill. Hey , I may go ahead a buy a Grill cover this time.
