The blade is 6.5 inch wide but only 1/3 inch of each end touches the griddle. Almost 6 inches of center part is not touching at all. I have tried every possible angles but waste of time and energy. Way cheaper and smaller one that I discarded after I ordered this was way better than this one.

Plain and simple, this item is useless. This is one of those items that look good when you place your eyes on it but if you really want your grill to look clean, get ready for a workout. It's bad enough grills are hard to clean if you don't up-keep it with thorough maintenance. But after a full day of cooking this scraper is the last thing you'd want to "try" and help you. It is not well balanced and the blade is dull.We've been more affective using our smaller handheld scraper than this waste of money.

Just received this item (two of them, actually), and it seems sturdy and capable of the job we need it to do.**EDIT**
I originally stated that this item had not come with a blade attached. I was mistaken; the blade was just incognito. I looked right at it four times and didn't see it. Crazy. Anyway, it looks like it will work great.
