I've been looking for this kind of thermometer for a while. I like the fact that I don't have to keep opening my smoker to get readings.

Pros: Battery shutoff after 8 hours. Big LCD display. Multiple meat choices, each with their own "safe" temperature level, some meats allow you to choose how "done" you want to cook it. Long probe length. Wireless indicator, so you can wander away from the grill, and still get indications. Verbal warning "your almost done" or "you are done" (paraphrase).

Cons: Won't allow you to change the "done" level on poultry...probably for legal reasons. If you cook to the indicated temperature, it might be a bit "well done" for your tastes, so just pull it off the grill "ten degrees early"... and let it set for 5-10 minutes to complete.

I burned up the probe (my fault) when the grill was left on triple-high (700F)...and the wire burned out. So buying another great unit.

I got one of these thinking that it would be great to use on my solar hot water panel.

Well they forgot to mention anywhere in the literature that this automatically shuts off after 8 hours.

I went to get my money back and they wouldn't do it. I had to file a complaint with the BBB and the state Attorney General.

Finally after several months they finally gave me my money back.

Oregon Scientific stuff is all made in China and has a high failure rate so be careful.
