The lava rock were what we wanted. They get much hotter than the ceramic rock we previously had. These are much better than any available locally.

I ordered these because I only needed a few and shipping was free. However, they're a little too pricey. If you're looking for bulk or just something less expensive you should call your local gravel supply or garden center. Lava rocks are also used in pond filters so if you have an outdoor pond supply place nearby, they'll definitely have these cheaper.
