I had a taste for shish kabobs after I went to a friends BBQ so I started looking around. I almost purchase the Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Signature Stainless Steel Grilling Kabob Skewers, Set of 6 (3/8-inch Wide) until I came across these and thought they would be good for even cooking and to keep the meat from sticking to the grill surface. Well they are perfect for me.

I purchased the Bayou Classic Fold and Go Portable Grill for camping and portability. After I got the grill and the skewers, I grilled away. The things I liked about the setup were that it does allow you to cook evenly on 4 sides.

The things I didn't like about them is that they are advertised as dishwasher safe. If that means that they won't melt, then sure. If that means that they won't rust, then... not so much. Mine showed some rust spots after putting them in the dishwasher. After that, I hand washed them and they were fine. Another thing is that the stands that come with them are kind of hard to clean. Mine have become somewhat stained after a couple uses. That's not too big of a deal for me since the food doesn't actually touch them.

I've cooked chicken, scallops, pork, beef, vegetables and fruit with them so far and they all came out great. I tried them on a propane grill with burners and the middle parts didn't cook as well. If you were cooking on an infrared grill they would work better. Charcoal is the way to go though.

Another thing you must have a glove. I use a leather glove for handling because they do get hot. The ends are kind of blunt, which I like. That way I won't skewer myself when I'm loading them up. I've read other reviews where users sharpened the ends of them like a knife. I opted not to do that.

To sum it up, I don't regret the purchase I don't think you will either. Just be sure you don't put them in the dishwasher...

I was excited about using this system. Now that I have I am not so excited.

On the plus side:

1. flat skewers hold meat in place better during grilling, and do not allow it to spin as the skewers are shifted.

2. the item is well made and sturdy.

Negative:

1. I was really hoping to get a system that would be tall enough to hold reasonable chunks of chicken above the grill so the meat would not stick to the grill. This is not the case with this system. The problem is that the stands that are on either side are NOT tall enough to allow the meat to not touch the grill.

2. While the flat skewers hold the meat on the skewer well, the slots in the stands are so open as to only really allow two positions for the meat, which is less than optimal.

Overall it is just an average or slightly below. I would not buy it if I knew what I know now.

The flat stainless blades make rotating veggies & meats easy. The stainless racks keep everything from sticking to grill. Only thing I wish was that tips were sharpened would make it easier to skewer meat. However, all in all, very pleased with the product.

I like this product for many reasons. One was the design for easy storage. It is not a cumbersome one piece frame, and so it could be easily stored in any drawer in the kitchen. The second reason I like it is the notches in the frame allow the skewers to be positioned in 4 ways allowing for proper flipping of the shishkabob to ensure even cooking. The third reason is the flat skewer design. This allowed a meat,vegetable, or fruit to stay in one place, allowing flipping to be an ease.

The only negative thing I have is that it is a bit difficult to clean. When splatter or food gets baked on in the bends on the inside of the skewer rests, it gets a bit hard to clean.

Other than that, it is a great product. I have recommended it to my friends.

If you want something to grill chunks of chicken, beef, fish, these are not the right tool (they are too wide and too dull to work well with chunks of food)! The product description should say this, but doesn't, so be warned. Ok, with that out of the way, they work great for their intended purpose, which is grilling ground meat kebabs google lula kebabs if you would like to see some photos). They are delicious and easy to make, but will fall off regular bbq skewers. If you don't overload these, your lamb or beef will stay on the skewer and can be turned easily -with regular ones, the meat stays stationary when you try to rotate the kebabs : (

I found the stands to be stable on our grill, the only downside is that the slots are placed close together and you have to be careful if you're wearing mitts or using a pot holder to turn your kebabs.

The quality seems very good, heavy gauge steel I expect will last awhile. Very happy with the product, and now I can make my "lulas" at home, yum!
