Bag was slightly broken on the bottom, but it came in a box, so no big deal. The top details state it is a 2lb. bag. Description down further states it as 2-5lb bags. Overall quality product as is most Cameron products I have bought for smoking.

Thee chips impart a delicate smoke flavor which is very compatible with salmon. I use them with the Cameron smoker.

These Alder smoking chips were advertised on Amazon as weighing 2 lb (and a day later, 2.2 lb) each without qualification. I ordered 3 bags. When they arrived they felt light so I got out my postal scales. Sure enough, all 3 bags weighed in at around 1.5 lb, at best. If they were advertised as weighing 1.5 lb, I might have ordered the product anyway and been reasonably satisfied. But to be misled like this leaves me feeling ripped off. I would add one more comment. I would not call these "chips". They are more like fine shavings or confetti. When I see the word chips associated with wood for smoking, I think more in terms of wood chunks. They are decidedly not chunks. I will not buy this product again.

Update:

I called Cameron Products to complain. The woman who answered was very apologetic and said that the weight quoted stemmed from an average of their wood chips (hickory, mesquite, etc), most of which are heavier wood. She said that they prefer to describe the product in terms of volume, rather than weight and that they have been trying to get Amazon to change the description. She offered to send me a couple free bags. Apparently they have several Alder products, so I accepted one bag of the courser chunks. Given Cameron Products' helpfulness, I am changing my vote from 1 to 4 and I will buy from them in the future, though perhaps not through Amazon until they clean up their ad.

I find that alder wood is the best flavor for pork and poultry. I haven't tried fish yet but expect it will be good. I like alder better than hickory and way better than mesquite.
