I purchased this at a big box store last summer and have loved it ever since. It's a solid kettle grill with some clever features. First, the grill is cast iron, which means it holds up better than others. Second, the grill surface has two concentric parts. This allows you to add coals by moving your meat to the outer ring and lifting the center. Third, Stok took advantage of the concentric ring shape of the grilling surface to allow a removable starter chimney (included)to be placed in the middle for the coals to get started. The ash bin includes a cage for placing wads of paper to start the coals. It starts every time without lighter fluid. The build quality is solid.
My only complaint is that the tabs that hold the ash bin and newspaper cage are a little flimsy and can sometimes be bent making it difficult to load the ash bin, but this is easily remedied and is hardly a flaw given the quality and featured of this grill.

This is the best designed grill I have ever seen. Not only where the instuctions very simple but the way the grill cooks steaks is to die for. Any body that likes a medium rare steak will love this grill. Then remove one center piece and you have the best chicken cooker ever. I have a $1000.00 dollar treager grill/smoker and this stok puts it to shame. The customer service is also number 1.Best Deals for Stok SCC0140MX Tower Charcoal Grill
This grill has quite a bit going for it, especially at the price. It one of the nicest looking grills I've ever seen, and takes up a very small footprint but still has a large grilling service. The main downside is that it's like Apple designed it, and Ikea did the production.Pros:
* Great Looking!
* Very functional, uses very little charcoal.
* I love the inserts. My friends own a pizza company so we grill pizza on the pizza stone which is amazing.
* The cast iron surface is a nice addition.
* Has an easy light feature that uses a paper basket and funnels the charcoal into one spot. Works great.
* I love the built in thermometer.
Cons:
* The biggest one BY FAR is assembly. Now, keep in mind I recently replaced the transmission in my Jeep, and also built a deck and installed a hot tub so I have some handy man skills. The main issues is the metal ring style body of the grill, it's what is silver colored in the photos. It's EXTREMELY difficult to align the tabs on this. Two people are definately required. If you don't have patiences then skip this grill, or buy it at a store that will assemble it for you. It is that frustrating. Also the ash container handle cracked while attaching it even though I was very careful.
* I noticed afterwords that their website does have an assembly video, it would have been nice if that was documented on the paperwork somewhere!
* The orange lid of the grill does not sit on the firebox very well. It's quite wobbly.
* It's a bit wobbly but not too bad. Not sure how it will hold up long term.
Overall it's a nice grill considering the price. Would I buy it again? Yes, if someone else put it together!!
Honest reviews on Stok SCC0140MX Tower Charcoal Grill
I was drawn to this grill because of cast iron grate and the built-in charcoal starter, but after 22 months of ownership, I have to say this thing is junk. The plastic knob on the lid vent (who puts plastic on a vent apparently designed for temps up to at least 700 degrees) shattered off in my hands, much like the lifting tool did last year. So there is no way for me to control the air supply (the design doesn't include practical lower vent controls, like most charcoal grills). I called STOK's warranty department and was told that despite this unit only being out for two years, they still insist on me providing a receipt for the purchase before they would help with repair, which of course I do not have as I bought it in person and not online. If that was my only issue with the grill after almost two years of ownership, I'd swallow my medicine, but it irks me to no end that they know this product is no more than two years old, yet they won't step up for a simple vent! I've dealt with the rusted bolts snapping off the handle, the chipped porcelain and rust around those same handles due to poorly designed washers, the faded legs that are now a chalky yellow color instead of bright orange, a flimsy paper basket that is on its last legs, and the ash basket tabs that are also ready to break off. I'm seeing other reviews with the plastic handles breaking off as well. In short, this piece of junk was apparently made to self-destruct in less than two years. If you buy this monstrosity, realize the cast iron grate is the only thing that will last more than a season, so save your receipt and hope that these folks are still in business when it starts to fall apart. As for me, I'm moving that grate to a 12 year old Weber Kettle that shows nowhere near the disintegration of this STOK and tossing this thing in the dumpster. Oh yeah, and Weber stands behind their grill for 10 years because they know it should last well beyond the 10 year mark and if it doesn't, they step up to the plate and take care of it. With Weber, a simple call with the serial number date code is all that is needed to get a part replaced. I've learned my lesson about buying a cheap knockoff from China.

Purchased a year ago at a large home-fix-it store for $49.00. Also, got the grill insert accessories at 50% and 75% off due to that store liquidating this product. This grill was my introduction to charcoal grilling and for the past year has been a fun and satisfying experience.Pros:
sits high enough that I don't have to bend over to manage the grill
charcoal starter stack is built-in, you wont need to buy one
cooking grill is sturdy cast iron
removable center piece is really handy
charcoal ash bin
includes main grill insert accessories for a variety of cooking styles, which will cost Weber kettle owners about $60 for just the Weber 7420 Gourmet BBQ System Sear Grate Set
similar design to the Weber 22.5 kettle grill, so there is a large community online for cooking tips
Cons:
bottom, adjustable air control doesn't allow for it to close completely, but it is easily modded and fixed.
lid doesn't seal tightly, but then this isn't a Big Green Egg either. It is easily fixed with some large metal office clips. Just search online for kettle grill mods.
third-party protective grill cover options are limited due to the height of this grill, I finally purchased the Stok tower cover after failing to find a less expensive one that would fit properly.
putting together the grill tested my patience, give yourself plenty of time to put this grill together.
the wheel attachment appears to flimsy, but mine has held up well over the past year and there is a mod to fix that too.
you have to add additional charcoal through the removable center piece, not so much a Con, but there's a mod for that too.
Summary: this grill works great for both high and low temperature cooking. You just need to learn the techniques and caveats of this particular grill. The cast iron cooking grate works very well for searing meat. And the removable center piece with included pizza stone is a fantastic feature. Just as with the Weber kettles, Stok Tower users have modded their grills to improve upon the original design to make it work better for them. I have cooked pizza, steaks, smoked ribs, and even smoked this year's Thanksgiving turkey on my Stok Tower grill. I'd buy another one.
