I bought this unit and used it one time in a smoker and everything worked perfectly. The next time I went to use it I found that the probe had failed. Replaced batteries and then checked probe with an ohmmeter and found it was open circuit. So it cost me $20 to cook one meal. My advice is to look elsewhere if you need a digital thermometer.

Red (in color)hot, but a bit hard to understand as the small buttons all multi-task, and small they are, with smaller still labels.

Once figured out though, it does it's job well.

Worked great for my smoker once. The next time I tried I couldn't get a temperature reading. I'm assuming it's a bad probe. This thing is crap. Never buying a Taylor product again.

Honest reviews on Taylor 808 Weekend Warrior Programable Thermometer / Timer

....I've been happily using mine for months, now on the gas grill, in the oven, on the charcoal grill and in the smoker.

I've been somewhat skeptical about closing the door or lid on the probe wire, but so far haven't had an issue. Works as advertised. Beeper nice and loud I can even hear it when it's outside and I'm inside, with the windows shut. I like all the options for locating the unit. On the gas grill, I stand it up on the work surface, on the charcoal grill, I use the magnets to stick it to one of the legs.

My only complaint is that it's kind of un-intuitive to use. Sometimes I spend a few minutes mashing buttons to get it to do what I want.

The probe on this unit fails quickly if used on a BBQ. I got a couple uses, and the insulation is gone. The thermistor wires short out, and you get a nonsense reading. This problem seems to be true of all units of this type, similar complaints are registered on units made by Weber and Oregon Scientific. They all seem to be using the same probe, and it's junk. The company will honor their one-year warranty, but you have to ship the unit back to them at your expense, so it's hardly a great deal. Don't waste your time or money on anything that has a probe like this one.
