you have to season it! It will serve you very well if you know how to care for it properly. I like this product because it doesn't have deep un-reachable ridges or weird patterns that make it hard to clean. Use it every weekend for the bacon. Also it appears in the picture that the product is shown without the wood grip on the handle, it does have one.

I chose this item mainly due to the size being the right size for the skillet I use often. Others were too big. The ribbed bottom is an added feature. Cleans up easily. Works great for covering and pressing single patties while reducing grease splatter. I would recommend it to others.
