I've only grilled with it once so far, but I was very pleased with this grill surface thermometer. I own the Char-griller duo which is a great grill and has the built in thermometers in the lid. Well, any true griller will tell you, these built in thermometers are not accurate since the temperature on the top of the lid is much hotter than the actual surface of the grill, which is where you really want an accurate reading. The built in thermometer did read over 100 degrees hotter than this grill surface thermometer placed directly on my grill.
I was a little skeptical as to this thermometers accuracy so I tested it in my oven which has a very accurate internal thermometer. This Taylor thermometer was accurate within +/10 degrees. Close enough for my needs. Other features I like about it is that it goes up to 800 degrees, it is magnetic so it stays in place, and it has a little spring you attach to the top for grabbing at with tongs or a spatula while hot. This model looks durable, and looks like a huge improvement over the last version that has horrible reviews here on Amazon. I cannot attest to how long it will last, but it looks well built and doesn't have any glaring flaws. I would recommend this product to a fellow griller.

Obviously, once this has been used a few times it does become as dirty as the rest of the BBQ. I dont expect it to be hyper-accurate just close enough till I can use a meat thermometer.Honest reviews on Taylor 8054 Weekend Warrior Surface Grill Thermometer
As others have noted, it's a decent thermometer, but once this thing gets dirty from grease, game over: it doesn't clean well. (Not even Spray-9 will do the job.) The numbers are all but unreadable. So, if you use it, you need to remove it from the grill before you grill. (The magnet is woefully weak, too.)I bought a cheapie oven thermometer to replace it. Since it has a glass cover, you can scrape the gunk off with a little water and a single-edged razor blade.
