If you are serious about outdoor cooking, this is it. My parents have had one for over 30 years. It is the best thought out/built grill/smoker/barbecue you will ever find. It is one of the rare products that really does multi task. We have used it to make everything from a couple of burgers to 10 lbs of pork shoulder. The one thing that could be improved is the seals. When you close it up, the fire does not die. It keeps burning until the fuel is used up.

We have a Hasty Bake and got this one for our son. It's the best because you can regulate the air flow and adjust the level of the fire box. It also accommodates a rotisserie, which some grills don't. Great size too.

Without question, one of the best, most flexible, and most useful charcoal grills on the market. The adjustable firebox gives the griller fantastic control over the temperature, from extremely low temps suitable for slow-grilling whole fowl and large roasts all the way up to high-temperature searing. It affords plenty of room to cook and could be used to crank out food for a few dozen people, but I use it just for my wife and I constantly. Its fine heat control makes even challenging grill cooks like stew, paella, and whole lamb easy and rewarding. With the grease drain rod removed, I get a solid 18in of vertical adjustment, taking me from brutally hot searing to temps that can keep a pot of stew bubbling gently for hours or slow-roast a tenderloin of beef or standing rib roast.

The results are unusually flavorful and well-grilled, too. Cooking high over an energetic fire has a different effect than cooking next to the fire or in a hot chamber connected to an offset firebox the sear is deeper and crustier, the flavors smoky and aromatic.

The construction is excellent; the steel is powder-coated and heavy-gauge, and the firebox and lift mechanism are heavy-gauge galvannealed steel. There's some storage room underneath and a handy stainless steel shelf on the front. Everything seems like it will easily live up to the manufacturer's estimated service lifetime of 15-20 years. The manufacturer recommends periodic cleaning, touchups with high-temp BBQ paint, and lubrication of the crank. Also, I avoid leaving it exposed to weather without a cover. It's a more complicated machine than a Weber one can leave rusting on the patio for years.

I'd have appreciated some hooks under the shelf to hold brushes and tongs, but I fixed that myself. Also and this is an issue with most grills I find that as a 6'0 man, the cooking surface is too low for me. I put the whole grill up on a pedestal of retaining wall bricks, boosting it a critical 7in higher. That makes it more comfortable and keeps the smoke out of your face. All grills should offer a higher working area or adjustable feet.

I'm overjoyed with my Hasty-Bake and would recommend it wholeheartedly with the caveat that while it can smoke reasonably well, it's not really a smoker as much as it is a grill and open-fire roasting pit. As far as traditional barbecue goes, it would perform better with rib racks, chickens, and quicker, hotter cooks. If you're passionate about the lowest, slowest temps possible, I'd go with a dedicated smoker. For anyone interested in Santa Maria grilling, Argentinian asado, rotisserie roasting, baking, and slow-grilling, this is the finest grill on the mass market, bar none.

It is NOT a smoker, it is simply an overpriced charcoal grill for making steaks and hamburgers. There is no way to control the air effectively, so in the end, you have an uncontrollable fire, and the grill has VERY limited uses. The only fire control you have is the ability to raise or lower the fire. Too bad you cannot control the temperature/air which is critical for smoking. For the price, you would be much better off with so many other grills. Forget low and slow with this grill. not possible.
