I worked my way through college as a cook and chef, so I'm used to doing regular maintenance on grills and other kitchen equipment. I've got a larger stainless steel 5-burner Char-Broil grill with side burner that we got from one of the large home improvement stores a few years back. The grill and grates are still in excellent shape, but the gas tubes and heat plates have to be replaced periodically. The place where I got the grill only offers the exact size replacements by special order, but delivery takes several weeks, and they're not cheap. The main alternative they have is cheap, slide-to-extend bars with screws to hold them at the right length. I didn't like the weight of them. I didn't like that they were bare metal, and more likely to corrode quickly, and I didn't like that they used small screws that would catch grease and meat and could also corrode from having different metals in contact with each other at high temps. I took one look and said no way.

These heat plates are an exact fit. They're ceramic coated, which the originals were (and have lasted at least 4 years, before starting to rust and need replacement). They're also made of heavy weight steel, which helps to distribute heat, and again should lead to greater life.

Just make sure you measure the length carefully and don't sweat that these may be a bit expensive. I used them all summer, and they are still in good shape after dozens of uses and end of summer cleanup. Better quality now means fewer replacements over the life of your grill.
