MY EXPERIENCE:
The fork tynes seem very sturdy, made of stainless steel, and they double as the temperature probes. After pircing the meat to its deepest point, the temperature reading quickly rises. The total time needed until you get your final reading is related to how well-done you like your meat. I prefer medium, and it took about 45
seconds to get my final reading. It seems like a long time, but as I watched the temperature rise, it actually went rather quickly. It went at a rate of about 10 degrees every 2-3 seconds. As the temperature rises, there is an indicator arrow as it passes the threshold for rare...then medium rare...then medium, etc. When your goal temperature is reached, it beeps kind of like a microwave oven. Pressing any button makes the beeping stop.
Only one thing annoyed me. There is a high pitched chirp each time you press a button, and I don't think it can be deactivated.
Overall, I think it is a very good product. I particularly like that I did not have to cut into the meat to check the inside. It makes for a much nicer presentation of the food to guests. The piercing marks are not noticable. I would certainly recommend it to anyone without hesitation.
OPERATING THE THERMOMETER:
There are two rubber buttons labeled "meat" and
"taste." To turn the thermometer on/off, press the "meat" button. Either button will illuminate a blue backlight on the display. Select the type of meat you
are cooking and how well done you want it, with the coices being "well done," "medium," "medium rare," and "rare." For poultry, it only allows you to choose "well
done." The meat choices include beef, veal, lamb, pork, chicken, and turkey. There are pre-programmed temperatures for each of these combinations. Here are the pre-
programmed temperatures:
BEEF, VEAL, LAMB AND PORK are all identical:
77C (170F) Well Done
71C (160F) Medium
62C (145F) Medium Rare
54-60C (130-140F) Rare
CHICKEN AND TURKEY:
82C (180F) Well Done
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
It takes two AAA batteries. The thermometer has a range of 1C-121C (35F-225F). Celcius or Fehrenheit can be selected with a switch inside the battery compartment.
There is a switch on the side that illuminates a single LED that is surprisingly bright.I switched it on once to view readout. Went to use it a week later and LCD display failed to come on. Batteries tested OK. Never got to use it and now outside full refund policy window. Considering shipping cists, probably not worth effort to send back for partial refund. I'm very dissapointed!
