This pit controller works very well with my Chargriller Akorn Kamado. I am sure it would work well with any other brand of this style cooker too. I have cooked between 225-240 for over 15 hours straight (and still had coal left) using this on numerous occasions. I use a Maverick to monitor my temps and it is great as well.
1. start your fire and get your grill ready for the meat
2. turn on iq110 and get the temp probe positioned on the grill grate
3. Do not put the blower hose in the vent yet!! Set the temp dial to 50 deg below desired temp
4. Let the grill temp raise SLOWLY
5. before up to temp add your meat
6. It will usually over-shoot your first desired temp setting. Once this happens bump up the dial to desired temp
7. Once to desired temp install the blower hose
8. adjust top vent to under the #1 setting
9. set the blower box dampener to 1.5-2
DONE.
I now start my cooks before bed time and go to sleep in confidence. It makes smoking meat an EASY task!
Tipit seems to control a tighter temp with Stubbs natural briquettes than any lump I have used. I saw the "ring of fire" method online but there is NO need for that.

This thing works...and works well. It regulates the temperature in my Akorn Kamado Grill like a pro. You do have to follow the instructions and air proof your grill as best you can. Start the fire, working small, then let the Adapter do it's thing. It allowed me to maintain a constant 250 degree temperature for 7 hours while cooking a Prime Rib. I just set it and let it go.

This is a really good idea in theory, but when your temperature probe goes out within the first 45 days or 5 uses (it was kept inside in a cardboard box always gently wrapped up and cleaned, away from the fire, exactly how the company specified) and you have to purchase a new one because it isn't covered under warranty, you start to wonder about the product. Then, when it stops working completely a few months later--7 months from initial purchase-(DC converter?), you become convinced that perhaps the quality of the components isn't up to par. If I didn't constantly have to worry about it actually working when I went to grab it, I would recommend it. Presently, I can't. If this problem gets resolved and it proves to be reliable I will modify this review.

It's a well built, quiet device to help with airflow control in your smoker. It's very versatile with the adapters provided depending on what type of smoker you go with. The biggest problem with smoking or low and slow is temperature control. This device will give you that "fix it and forget it" ability to know with confidence your smoker will maintain the temperature you wanted. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have an edge in cooking low and slow.

I was originally considering getting a BBQ Guru but you cant beat the price point on this blower. I would have spend almost twice as much on the Guru. I couldnt tell you how that one compares to the IQ but lets be honest, all it has to do is moniter your BBQ so you can be confident in leaving it alone and go about your day. That is exactly what it does. I use it on my Char Griller Kamado which held temp well in the first place but I was always afraid to leave my house just in case the temp would do something crazy. It does hold the temp within 10 degrees of what you set it at, which is more consistant than if it was naturally aspirated. Good stuff!
