I know you could use a meat thermometer, but this thing is just too easy. I take the fish off when the "Almost" bar is full and the "Done" bar is about half way full. This is a GREAT gift.Best Deals for Burton Plastics Perfect Fish Thermometer
One of my favorite foods to grill is fishbut I almost always overcook it and it ends up tasting dry. I was looking for a new grill thermometer (not a meat thermometer) when I stumbled on this. The first fish we tried was Makerel. This was also the first time we every grilled makerel and it was great. It was hard to attribute it to the thermometer, could be that makerel is just an awesome fish to grill.
Next we tried salmon fillets (I always overcook these) and they were perfect. Tonight we grilled salmon again, but this time it was 1.5" thick salmon steaks. They were also great, but I think they had a little more fat on them which helps.
When I first checked the thermometer I was a litte disappointed how "dim" the green color was, but it turns out that it was just way undertemperature. When it is near or at the correct temperature the color is very bright and vivid, impossible to misread.
BTW, if anyone lives in the Cincinnati area I find that Jungle Jims has really fresh fish. They will even clean and prep their whole fish any way you like for free.
