It is what is. As delivered, it's accurate to 1 degree at boiing and freezing points at 1800 feet above MSL. Fits well into an existing hole in my grill's barrel-style cover. I chose the 4" length to get the probe closer to the food and not measuring temps at the top of the cover. Fast response to within 10 degrees of measured temp, but final accuracy takes another 15 seconds. Not a problem as this is measuring grill temp, not food temp (this is NOT a food probe).

It doesn't glow in the dark. It doesn't have red, white and blue temp ranges. It doesn't turn your charcoal on or off or whistle Dixie. But it does do a great job in measuring your grill's internal temp.

The only down side is Tel-Tru took an entire week just to get my in-stock thermometer into the hands of the carrier. This does not bear on the thermometer itself, which is great, but I wouldn't advise paying for expedited shipping...

Update: Well, on second thought, it's not quite what I hoped it might be but it's still good. After reading the packaging (before tossing it into the trash) I noted with some disappointment that this 4" thermometer has to be inserted beyond the joint in the stem. Looking at the stem, I see what appears to be a 2" thermometer with a 2" extension pressed into place. Basically, the extra 2" is decoration only only but something the maker can charge extra for. OK, so I didn't get a thermometer that's easy to install, accurate, only takes a 1/4" hole, handles the temp ranges of a charcoal grill AND is 4" long to get the measuring point close the food.

So I'm taking away my 5 stars and giving 2. Loss of 1 star for the thermometer not being what is implied, and loss of 2 more for whatever else is being hidden and remains undisclosed by Tru-Tel. I'm back in the market for a 4" thermometer but Tru-Tel has violated the implicit trust between seller and customer, so I won't be buying from them again. Hey Tru-Tel, don't scam your customers! There's no point to a 4" thermometer if it has to be used as a 2" one!
